It's a Hoot!!! An owl beanie hat, new crochet pattern.

It’s a Hoot!,, A beanie style hat done in beautiful cables to create an owl pattern all around thebrim. The “owls” eyes are buttons which are attached during the actual crochet work and not sewn after. So no sewing on later!!! Standard 5/8 Inch buttons were used, but pony beads may be used as well.

Stylish and classy for the adults and yet very cute and fun for the kids too!

Pattern is written in two sizes:

Adult size measures 20 Inches around X 8 1/2 Inches tall and has 6 “owls” around. Uses 12 Buttons.

Child/toddler size measures 17 Inches around X 7 Inches tall and has 5 “owls” around. Uses 10 Buttons.

Written in American Standard terms and knowledge of front post crochet is required. This is not a beginner pattern due to the cabling design.

Who says Entrelac has to be worked in diamonds? This latest Entrelac creation of mine is done in a square spiral to highlight the beautiful color changes of self striping yarn. Will start working on writing the pattern for this soon. The blanket is about 32"X32" right now but am tempted to keep going and put it on my sofa.

Corner Start Entrelac Homespun Afghan

Corner Start Entrelac, worked on the diagonal with two colors of home spun yarn. What is awesome about doing entrelac in a corner start method is the you will not have a jagged edge of half diamonds to fill in. It creates straight edges. No long starting chain needed either. Rose Petals Square New Crochet Pattern

Granny Star Round Ripple, new Pattern.

Its a granny, its a round ripple and it’s got ric-rac stripes. What is not to love about the Granny Star, an Eight Point Round Ripple?

Very quick to work up, make it anywhere from a dish cloth to a King size afghan. Would make an awesome baby blanket with the optional sweet but simple little edging.

Pattern is written in standard American Crochet terms. As with all my patterns permission is given to sell finished items, with credit for design. No specific yarn or hook size is given, use what you wish. I chose these colors to go with the quilt and the colors used are listed in the pattern. Quilt was purchased at Walmart and is still available there. This is a great pattern for scraps.

Also, a big thanks to all the ladies from Crochetville who tested this for me. And thanks for the picture taking help from Mason the little dachshund in the pic. You know who will be taking this blankie over.. lol..

Knit look headband now available at Annies Attic

I am very pleased to announce that I had been contacted by Annies Attic with interest in a couple of my designs. I was needlessly to say very flattered. I have been working with them to be able to offer some of my patterns on their website.

Right now I have a new knit look headband design on my hook. The difference in this one is that it will be reversible. Here is a sneak peek. I am working on designing a matching flower for it, then out for testing.

Added a moebius twist to highlight the two sides.

Hook Hounds H2O to Go, free water bottle carrier crochet pattern.

Look ma! No hands. Crochet yourself a cute all the rage cross body strap to hold your water bottle. But wait, head to the plumbing section of your local Hardware store first. Pattern uses a plain old fashioned rubber O-ring to attach to the bottle. How cool is that!

Pattern uses two stitch markers. I wrote it that way so you can make the strap as short or long as you want. Just chain away until the desired length.

Materials:
Small amount Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn
H Hook, 5.00 mm
#27 Rubber O-Ring ~ 1 1/8" X 7/8" X 1/8" Found in Hardware Stores in the Plumbing Section.
*Will fit most water bottles, you can always take the bottle to the store but that is what fit both my 16 oz and 24 oz bottles.
2 Stitch markers

Pattern:
Chain desired length for strap. ( I chained 145 for a 44" cross body strap and 37 for a 12" wrist strap)

Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across to last chain. Work 3 sc in last chain. Mark first sc made in the 3 sc group. Now working in free loops of beginning chain, sc in each free loop across to last. Work 2 sc in last, marking the first sc of the 2 sc group. Sl st to first sc of round, switch to contrasting color if desired.

Round 2: Ch 1. Sc in each sc across to first marked stitch. 2 Sc in marked stitch (remove marker). 3 sc in next sc inserting hook through the stitch indicated and then the O-ring. 2 sc in next sc, sc in each sc across to next marked stitch. 2 Sc in marked stitch (remove marker). 3 sc in next sc inserting hook through the stitch indicated and then the opposite side of the O-ring. Make sure strap isn't twisted and wrong sides of strap are facing. O-ring attached. Sc in same space as first sc of the round. Finish off and work "No See Finishing" or Invisible join. Tutorial for "No See Finishing" here. Weave in ends.

Twirlagig Hat and Flower set, crochet pattern.

Twirlagig Hat has a spiraling surface braid and is worked in rows. Sized to fit an average size womans head. There is no backpost or frontpost crochet stitches used in this pattern. Instead 3 new stitches are used: half single crochet, half treble crochet and half double treble. Great, quick project to learn new stitches and techniques. Also included in the pattern is a smaller version of my braided twirlagig flower to adorn your hat. Pattern has now been updated to include a toddlers and newborns size. Thank you Debi for testing these sizes.

Pattern is written using Standard American Crochet Terms.

Cup Caddy Crochet Pattern

Turn on ordinary coffee cup into a Caddy. Fits a 3"x 4" mug. Crocheted all in one piece except the optional tie. Has 9 pockets total on the outside, fully divided between. Pattern is now at my testers and should be available on Etsy and Ravelry in the next few days. I am extremely happy with this project. Will be making several more: One for hubbys desk (in manly colors, tehehe), one for the bathroom for makeup brushes and another for the kitchen. Thanks for looking.

Mug Cozy in Tapered shells.

Shell stitch mug cozy is made for tapered mugs, not ones with straight up and down sides. A couple of really cool things with this pattern: The increases for the taper are worked in the shells, so makes it super easy. Also the shells allow the cozy to reach all the way to the top of your mug, but leaves a cool lip shaped spot for you to put your smoochers. You can drink from the cup without putting your lips on the cozy! How cool is that? Also, the button is attached during the crochet and not sewn on afterwards. You will need a 3/4 shank back button. My mug pictured measurements are 3.75 Inches across the top, 2.5 Inches across the bottom and 4.5 Inches tall.

Foundation Single Crochet Tutorial

Foundation Single crochet:
Step 1) Chain 2. Insert hook in second chain from hook. Yo and draw loop through. You will now have 2 loops on hook.

Step 2) Yo and draw through one loop on hook. By drawing through this one loop you just created a chain. You will work into this chain in your next foundation single crochet. See photo below.

For each additional foundation single crochet:

Insert hook in the chain that was created in Step 2. It will sit on the left edge of work. Yo, and draw loop through. Repeat step 2.

Braided, a knit look crochet headband pattern

Braided, a knit look headband uses half double crochet and a special stitch that I have not seen else where that I call the herringbone single crochet. It creates the surface braid and the taper in the headband for the nape of the neck for comfort, while still covering the ears on those chilly days. The head band measures approximately 4 Inches at widest point, 2 1/2 Inches at narrow point, and about 19 Inches around, but is easily adjustable. Worked in the round on a foundation single crochet base so that it is equally stretchy throughout the headband. A regular starting chain would create an un-stretchy row. Pattern includes directions with photos for the foundation single crochet.

Wanting to wish all of my blog readers a Happy New Year. I have decided that with the new year it was a great time to give my blog and Etsy shop a new look. I have created a new logo for myself. So over the next couple of days, please pardon my mess. I will be rearranging and hopefully making my blog a bit easier to navigate. Coupon codes are good until 11:59 pm, Eastern Standard Time 1/5/11. I also plan on gradually giving some of my older patterns makeovers as well. Some of them need to be recrocheted in different colors and new pictures are definitely in order. Most of the pictures were taken with my camcorder as my camera had broke. Hubby has since purchased me a new camera. I also have learned how to use a lightbox. It is a great way to take pictures of crochet work. Especially Caron Simply soft yarn which has a sheen that is difficult to photograph.

On my hook now is Childrens sizes for the Fuzzy Wuzzy slipper pattern, with a mens version to follow. The Men's and boys sizes will not have fun fur. Can you just see all our dear hubby's running around the house with the marabou look,, tehehe..

I am really looking forward to the new year. I will have lots of new patterns coming out in the next month or two. Lots of ideas of projects floating around my head as well. My goal for my Ravelry and Etsy shop is to have 5,000 patterns sold in the year of 2011. My hubby and I have also set a goal for our selves for this year. We are saving to put in a pool at our house. Not only is it nice to have one in Florida, but I will use it as well for my Crohn's. Part of the disease is having arthritis in my SI joints and walking in a pool helps immensely. So, all of my pattern sales will go to our Pool Fund. It is great to have goals and it is what keeps me motivated. They saying is "do what you love and the rest will follow". I am doing what I love to do, crocheting and creating patterns that I have envisioned. I truly appreciate every single time someone decides to purchase a pattern from my shops. Merry Christmas to everyone. I am busy finishing last minute gifts. I have been making wool dryer balls in which I will post a tutorial next week for those. Also Lacy Towel toppers and mini lighter cozies. I also have a pair of slippers felting in the washing machine as I type. I have the pattern for size 9 worked out and ready to be written. I think I have smaller sizes worked out as well but am needing models to try them on. I am a bit behind due to sad news in my household. Last Friday, December 17th I unfortunately had to put Torrie, my almost 14 year old dachshund to sleep. It was a very heart wrenching experience for us all and I did not feel like crocheting. It is so hard when you have to make that decision.

Crocheted and Felted Fuzzy slippers size 9, pattern to be up soon.

I have been adding a great product to the soles to make them non slip.. It is a spray by Performix called Super Grip. It is specifically made for fabric and is washable. I love the convenience of the spray. I found it at my local Ace Hardware in the cleaning supplies aisle. It cost about $9.00 for the can. The cream and brown slippers I am keeping for myself. I will needle felt a dachshund onto them when they are dry.

Trailing Vines Leaf Garland Free Crochet Pattern

Round 1) 2 sc in second ch from hook. *Hdc in next, dc in next 3 chains, hdc in next.* In last chain work 1 hdc, 1 sc, 2 chains, sc in second chain from hook. Now you will turn but continue working in the same/last chain, 1 sc, 1 hdc. Now working up the free loops of the original chain, repeat from * to * once. Sc in last chain. Sl st to first sc. For one leaf only finish off, for additional leaves see below.

Additional leaves: Ch 8 and repeat Round 1, for as many leaves as desired. Finish off at end of round for last leaf.

Remember to leave a long tail for sewing.

Crochet Felting

Just a quick update here. I am currently working on some felting projects. I have made the One Squared purse pattern and it felted beautifully. It is drying and will take photos in the next few days. My dear hubby got me a new camera this past weekend, yeah!!!! So the quality of pictures of my crochet work should increase greatly. My camera had broken so have been using my Video Cam to take still pictures. Taking all new pictures of my past work will be a project in of itself. Hubby really surprised me with the new camera. On Saturday we decided to go to the park. On the way to the park he agreed to stop at the craft store on the way. Like most men he hates shopping so I was thrilled with just that. While I went in to look for yarn, he went over to the office supply store next door. When I came back to the car he had left the new camera for me on my car seat. What a sweetie he is! We continued on to the park and I was able to put the new camera to use. Below is a picture I took in the Butterfly Garden.

Felting is a lot of fun once you get past the scary of throwing it in the washer.

Here is a couple of tips for felting:

Crochet generally shrinks more in width than in height.

A slip stitch edge does not felt well.

Put your felted item in a pillow case rubber banded shut or a lingerie bag to prevent clogging up your washing machine.

Use Hot cycle, a few drops of detergent. Throw in old jeans or something similiar to help get more agitation.

Check item for desired felting about every 5 minutes. I like to lose all stitch definition. This is up to you.

Do not run through the spin cycle. Instead roll item in a towel, to avoid hard to remove creases.

Once you start felting, it is addicting, so beware. Check back here for updates. My hook will be flying.

Crochet Dog Sweater- Lacy Canine Capelet

This is my English Cream Long haired Dachshund. Mellow yellow for sure, lounging on the couch is not new to him.

Lacy Capelet for your canine. Perfect for those crisp Fall days, or cool spring walks. Quick to work up with only 16 Rows total. Chest strap is adjustable and leaves plenty of room for collar and leash. Belly strap is also adjustable. Gussets are made in the shells to allow for shoulders and rib cage. This helps to keeps the capelet lying flat against the dogs sides and not stick away. Pattern size is adjusted by type of yarn and size of hook. Required are two 3/4” Shank back buttons which are attached in the crochet work. No sewing required! Regular worsted weight is used for the size medium measuring 13 1/2” Wide X 12” long. Caron Simply Soft is used for the small measuring 10 1/2” Wide X 9 1/2” Long. Worsted weight cotton is used for the Extra Small. According to my gauge swatch it should measure about 9” Wide X 7” long, however the extra small has not been tested yet. I am looking for someone to test the extra small size. Please message me if you would like to test the extra small size only. The measurements on the Capelets were folded flat, excluding the belly strap and the chest strap.

The medium will fit about a 17-25 pound dog. It fit my standard size dachshunds.

The small will fit in the 10 pound range. It fit my miniature dachshunds.

Like anybody else but me measures in the world in dachshunds,, lol..

Crochet Scalloped Edge Beaded Scarf

My Neck Candy crochet scalloped edge beaded scarf is done. I am really pleased with how this turned out.

The bead work makes the scallops. The scarf is reversible as the beads show the same on both sides.

Pattern uses Caron Simply Soft yarn and pony beads. Instructions include photo tutorial on how to do the bead work. I think I will make more of these for Christmas presents for friends and family in the Pacific Northwest.

Just an update as I haven't posted in a bit.

Here is the Arm Candy handbag and cowl pattern just finished. I have been on a beading kick lately.

On my hook right now:

Another beaded project. However the beads are attached differently here than my beaded fleuri bag tutorial and is a little bit more advanced. I will write the pattern out as soon as I am finished with it. It is currently halfway done, hoping to finish this tomorrow. The opalescence of the beads and the sheen of the Caron Simply soft yarn make it difficult to get a good photo. Crocheter yes, photographer I am not.

After the scarf, I may or may not make a matching purse.

I also have two new dog sweater patterns in the works as well. Not pictured as I need to get supplies.

One dog sweater will be a very pretty lacey pattern. A lighter weight sweater perfect for fall and spring. The other will be called "Cross My Heart". I just need to get them worked up. I may need a pattern tester for an x small size. Leave me a comment if you have a small dog less than ten pounds and would like to test a sweater pattern. Then, I have an expectant mother to crochet for as well. Thank goodness she is only a few months along so have some time. I will do a 6 to 12 to 24 point Star Ripple Afghan for her with thread booties to match.

Definitely been spending more time with my yarn than the computer, lol. Head down, and back to the hook........
