If you are 16-19 years old and a Flint resident Flint & Genesee Education & Talent could have a job for you.

The organization aims to fill a variety of seasonal job openings, with work beginning as early as next week for some positions. Applications for these jobs are due immediately.

There are nearly 40 openings available through the Summer Youth Employment Program, according to Director of Talent Development James Avery.

It’s been well documented the number of small businesses which has shuttered over the last year due to COVID-19 has been significant.   The minority-owned businesses closure rate (41%) was approximately 2.4 times the general population’s (17%) closure rate.  Clearly, this has potentially impacted entrepreneur’s finances.

As small business owners grapple with finances and strategic approaches focused on survival during the pandemic, many are balancing personal and business resources to stay afloat, particularly minority-owned businesses.

Michigan Small Business Survival grants totaling $4.12 million were awarded to 291 small businesses in the seven-county Region 6.

Of those, 96 businesses are in Genesee County, according to the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce. The grants helped businesses to retain 1,138 jobs in the county.

Each business received up to $15,000 in much-needed financial relief from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.’s (MEDC) Small Business Survival Grant Program.

The Flint community is grieving after a violent end to the Christmas holiday and the ongoing rise in crime.

Pastors and churches say enough is enough and will march today (December 29) to speak out and pray for change.

Homicides in the city were up 23.7 percent and violent crimes were up 19.24 percent, according to Flint Police Department statistics. Over the Christmas weekend three shootings left four people dead — including an infant — all within a matter of hours.

That’s the warning from the governors in seven states who have come together as a bipartisan group to encourage urge everyone to mask up, follow medical experts’ advice, do their part to eradicate COVID-19.
