These two new remix’s of Phoenix’s hit track Lisztomania have blown me away… Absolutely loving the Alex Metric remix right now and can’t wait to catch them live in August. I found this the other day on Deckhead who found this on Asian Dan but really doesn’t matter where I found it cause its freakin awesome. Para One has remade some classic classical pieces into some electro BANGERZ!!! Well not quite but he has re written some classic pieces with the electronic/software assortment. I really only have one word for both these songs, and that word is EPIC!! Read over at Asian Dan for the background on both these pieces..

Any how. First up, is a track called Machine by Death+Taxes which is really dark with a strong rock influence. It reminds me of something to power on through a dark late night drive.

I’ve had this track for nearly two years now, and yet I think I heard it for the first time the other day whilst my itunes was on shuffle. I don’t know how I ever skimmed passed it. Bloody brilliant and super bouncy. Although I’d love to find a 320kbps version of It, I think the only place you can buy it is from Juno on vinyl.

So I may have got a little excited with that opening, but when possibly two of my favourite bands are playing in Wollongong, at my spiritual clubbing birthplace (yes, i was a long haired grom once who frequented that den of Top 40 hedonism every weekend for $1 drinks and the chance to grind on the dancefloor), I tend to get excited.

Ratatat. Tame Impala. The Vines DJ’s. Fait Accompli. Young & Restless plus more. Waves. Thursday May 7.

It’s a pretty epic lineup, and a big coup getting NY Hipster’s Ratatat down the F6 for the show. Throw in Tame Impala (listen to their track Half Glass Of Wine, huge Cream/Clapton sounding riff, really vibing on these guys at the moment), plus the supports, and it’s easily the best lineup for a live music gig i’ve seen in Wollongong for years.

It’s bought to you by those crazy cats over at Libertine Ranch, and My Sydney Riot. And we all know how most parties put on by the Libertine crew end up… this will be no exception.

I’ve been a small fan of Berlin based The Whitest Boy Alive since they stole the show at last years Nevereverland, and have been waiting waiting patiently for their second release, Rules, ever since.

But for those of you who don’t know, The Norwegian vocalist of TWBA, Erland Oye, has his fingers in many pies. He is the co vocalist of Norwegian folk duo, Kings Of Convenience, and was the vocalist behind the huge Royksopp track Remind Me. Kid can remix as well. And he’s an accomplished solo artist.

The geek shall definitely inherit the earth it seems.

EDIT - Rules is out in Australia, has been for a month. Buy it. It’s great. Trust me

Last week i finally had the opportunity to see an australian artist who i’ve admired for some time. I first heard Sia through her collaborations with downtempo kings Zero 7, then through the Adelaide born, UK based artists second solo album ‘Colour The Small One’. Wth 4 albums and two ep’s under her belt, countless appearances on compilations and her tracks being used on television in the US, it might be time Sia starts to get the recognition she rightfully deserves in Australia as one of our most talented exports.

I’ve been a huge fan of Feist since the early Monarch days… It can be said she amassed a bigger following (and chart recognition) after her single 1 2 3 4 was licensed to Apple for their worldwide iPod nano adverts, but realistically it was well deserved.

After releasing her debut album Monarch (Lay Down your Jewelled Head) in 1999, she went on to form indie darlings Broken Social Scene with Brandon Canning and Kevin Drew in 1991, released Let it Die in 2004, and The Reminder in 2007.

I’ve thrown together a couple of remixes i’ve always had a thing for, and a collaboration with Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie/Postal Service of Vashti Bunyan’s ‘The Train’ which was taken off the Dark Was the Night compilation.

Last weekend the guys and gurls of The Hype put on the second of our parties at the Novotel Northbeach in Wollongong (1.5 hours South of Sydney, Australia for the uninitiated).

The event was the Ministry of Sound Clubbers Guide to 2009 party and featured two of our favorite producers from 2008 - The Aston Shuffle and Bass Kleph.

I hadn’t heard of French duo, The Do (pronounced Doe, after the musical note), until today (Thanks Jess)… Bit of a shame really because i’ve instantly become a fan.

They will be out for The V Festival, and supporting M83 at their Metro sideshow in Sydney.

The Young Hearts are an up and coming band from the South Coast of NSW. A year or so ago they recorded a two track demo with two amazing tracks. They are currently working on their debut EP which from what I’ve heard so far is sounding very rad.
