MeKeisha
The night we spent at Dominique’s house was restless. I was glad when morning came. I decided to get up early and make breakfast for everyone. After doing my morning routine, I made pancakes, eggs, and bacon. De’Andre was the first to arrive in the kitchen.
“Hey, MeKeisha. Good morning. Thanks for making breakfast.” De’Andre gave me a friendly hug. “I’m pretty sure Dominique won’t be in the mood to make it.”
I held on to De’Andre tightly, giving him plenty of opportunity to look at my cleavage. He backed away abruptly. I stepped up to him and began whispering.
“Don’t worry. Sha’Lena and Dominique are still asleep. I won’t tell either one of them.” He looked at me like I had crawled from under a rock.
“What’s the matter with you, MeKeisha? You know Sha’Lena’s my girl.”
“I know that Sha’Lena’s your girl. But that doesn’t mean we can’t snuggle up together. I’m still feeling anxious after listening to Jordon’s message over the answering machine.”
De’Andre returned my embrace. I slipped my hands under his pajamas and rubbed his chest. This felt better than being in LaMar’s arms.   We made eye contact.
“We better stop before Sha’Lena and Dominique wake up”.
“Stop what? We haven’t done anything. Yet. Let’s finish later on when we don’t have to worry about being interrupted.”
We heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Dominique was the first to arrive into the kitchen, followed by Sha’Lena and, Dominique and De’Andre’s mother, Katherine Stephens, preventing De’Andre from answering.
“Good morning, everybody. It was so nice of you to make breakfast for everyone, MeKeisha.”
Ms. Stephens tried to smile, but I could tell her heart wasn’t in it. Jordon’s harassment of Dominique was stressing her out too. My heart went out to her. I was actually surprised about that. Maybe the seriousness of the situation was beginning to sink in.
Except for saying grace, we all ate in silence. My mind went back to De’Andre. Wondering about later on………
“You all go ahead, finish getting ready for school. Don’t worry about the breakfast dishes. I’ll do that”, said Katherine Stephens. She had the same golden complexion Dominique had, and was just as lovely.
Then the phone rang.
“Just let the answering machine pick up, just in case it’s Jordon,” Katherine said.
It was Jordon. His voice was a deadly monotone when he asked about Dominique’s whereabouts.
“You only have four days left. I won’t let you have a life without me in it.”
“That’s it! I’m taking care of Jordon myself. We don’t need the police.” De’Andre grabbed his jacket and was about to storm out the door. Ms. Stephens grabbed him by the shoulders.
“No, De’Andre. Let the police take care of it. Will you promise me that?” He hesitated.
“O.K., for now. But I ain’t letting nothing happen to Dominique. They better hurry up and do something before I do.”
“Look, De’Andre. You’re going to college and you have a good chance of winning a scholarship. You have an opportunity that not many African-American males have. I’m not going to let you throw it away just to get revenge on Jordon.”
“I understand, Momma. But I can’t take this much longer.”
“I know how you feel, De’Andre. This is going to be over soon. Jordon isn’t crazy enough to violate that restraining order. Dominique, are you sure you’re up to going to school today?”
“Sure, Momma. I’m not going to let Jordon make me a prisoner in my own home. C’mon, let’s go before we miss the bus.” Dominique managed a half-hearted smile. Sha’Lena and Dominique embraced briefly.
“Oh, wait a minute. I forgot my calculus book. De’Andre, have you seen it?”
“Yeah, it’s upstairs in my room. I’ll go get it”.   Dominique followed De’Andre.
“Are you out of your mind?” De’Andre was startled by Dominique’s voice behind him.
“What are you talking about, Dominique?”
“You know what I’m talking about. I saw you and MeKeisha in the kitchen. What if
Sha’Lena had come into the kitchen and saw you two together?”
“It’s not what you think, Dominique. ‘Keisha just wanted me to comfort her. She’s worried about Jordon doing something to you. Just like I am.”
“You two are planning on getting together later on. I heard the whole thing. You better not break Sha’Lena’s heart. Let’s go on and catch the bus. We’ll talk about this later on.”
“Ain’t nothing to talk about. I ain’t planning on getting with MeKeisha.”
“You better not be. Let’s go and catch the bus.” Dominique and De’Andre walked down the stairs. Dominique looked at me as if she wanted to lecture me about something. Whatever. I’ve had it. I’m not putting up with that anymore. She better not say anything to me. We all said goodbye to Ms. Stephens and walked out the door.
We all walked in silence. De’Andre was holding Sha’Lena’s hand. I watched silently. He may have been holding Sha’Lena’s hand, but I’m pretty sure he was thinking about our embrace.
When we arrived at school, I saw LaMar pull into the school’s parking lot in a burgundy Monte Carlo with gold rims. A classic “dopemoble”. He wasn’t alone. Brianna was with him. So, Mr. Hampton gives his ex-girlfriend a ride and makes me catch the bus. Well, that was the last straw.
“Are you O.K., MeKeisha?” asked Sha’Lena, noticing that LaMar was walking with Brianna.
“Sure, I’m O.K.” I’ll be better than O.K. when I’m in bed with De’Andre. “I’ll be seeing you guys at lunch time.” Everyone went their separate ways. I decided to go into the school’s library to avoid running into LaMar. But my plan didn’t work. As I was about to enter the school’s library, I heard LaMar’s voice from behind.
“I want that stuff back, MeKeisha.”
“What stuff?”
“That stuff I gave you when you were over my house. I need it back. I’m in trouble. I never meant to give you that. I only meant for you to have the weed.”
“You’re in trouble alright. Why do you keep dissing me for Brianna?
“Brianna is my girlfriend. I’m not with you anymore.” LaMar’s voice was as cold as ice. It was as though he’d slapped me.
“You’re gonna dump me for that plain-ass Brianna?”
“Don’t hate on my girlfriend. I don’t know why you’re so surprised. You wouldn’t give me any, so I went to someone who would. And I want that stuff back.”
“I don’t have it, LaMar.”
“What you mean, you don’t have it?” Suddenly the coldness was gone from his voice. “Please, MeKeisha. The drug dealers want either their money or the drugs back.”
“Well, I don’t have it, so get out of my face.” I started walking away. He grabbed me by the shoulders and spun me around violently.
“I ain’t playin’ with you, MeKeisha. I want that stuff back now.” I had backed myself into a corner. There was no way I could tell LaMar that his drugs were in police custody. Now, I wish I had listened to Dominique.
“I’m sorry, LaMar. But I never looked to see what it was. Then I forgot and put those jeans in my dirty clothes hamper and they ended up getting washed. I didn’t know. I just didn’t know.” I knew it was a lame lie, but my head was spinning. I didn’t have much time to think.
“How could you be so stupid?”
“You’re the one that’s stupid. Why didn’t you just keep it yourself?”
LaMar stormed away, then came right back. Despite the heated content of our conversation,
we managed to keep our voices low. LaMar believed in being discreet.
“’Keisha, like I said, I’m in trouble. I need for you to help me, please. Those drugs were worth $1000. Is there any way you can come up with $500? Please? I gave you five hundred. At least give me that back.”
He must think I’m a total idiot. There’s no way I’m going to give him a penny back. I was smart not to have had sex with him after all. He’s a fool to let me go. Brianna doesn’t look half as good as I do.
“LaMar, even though you’re not my boyfriend anymore, you’re still a friend. I’ll help you. Just tell me when and where.” My voice was strangling with anger, but I managed to control it.
“Bring the money to my house tomorrow at six. And thanks. I appreciate it.”
“No problem.” Whatever. LaMar went inside the library. I walked away before Barbara or Brianna showed up. I was definitely done with that drama. Or was I? I knew that once I saw Brianna, she was going to rub it in my face about LaMar dumping me. Well, I was going to end it once and for all. Something told me to go to LaMar’s locker. As I opened his locker door, Dominique’s words, ‘He’s going to try to get you to do all kinds of stuff’ ran through my mind. A small photo album caught my attention. I looked inside and was shocked. Nude photographs of several teenaged girls!   I didn’t recognize any of them. None of these girls went to Madison High. Except the one on the last page. Brianna! LaMar had gotten her to pose nude and was probably planning on getting me to pose nude as well. I had let him talk me into smoking a little marijuana, but that was it. There was no way I’d go any further. I snatched the photo of Brianna out of the photo album and put it in my notebook. I couldn’t believe Brianna was stupid enough to let LaMar photograph her in the nude. Why would LaMar bring that to school anyway? It didn’t matter why. I couldn’t wait to put this picture on the Internet and humiliate Brianna.
She’d think that LaMar had done it. I looked both ways, making sure no one saw me.
I went to Mr. Coleton’s algebra class. Damn, I still hadn’t studied with Sha’Lena and Dominique. But I guess that doesn’t matter anymore.
Another boring chapter in exponents. Thank goodness it was the last one. I’m not even going to pretend to concentrate. I didn’t have to. Mr. Coleton only called on the brainiacs.
Finally, class was over. As everyone was leaving, Mr. Coleton said, “O.K, don’t forget to study for tomorrow’s test. Final exams are right around the corner.” He made eye contact with me.
“MeKeisha, can I see you for a minute, please?” He closed the door after everyone left.
“Have you given any thought to my offer, MeKeisha?”
“Yes.”
“What have you decided?”
“I’ll go to bed with you.”   Mr. Coleton’s face lit up. “I knew you’d change your mind.”
Mr. Coleton can have what LaMar missed out on.

Parlement are a Spanish rock'n'roll band who are about to release their new album called ‘Be Machinery/You Oughta Be In Pictures’.

They've been compared to a variety of acts, from the Stone Roses to REM, to a few other random names... In my opinion, however, Parlement are the new reincarnation of The Dandy Warhols and Belle & Sebastian, and "Little Liar" fits in comfortably in the family of Uncle Lou and Auntie Iggy, whilst being embellished with knowing echoes of The Rolling Stones “Brown Sugar”.

The new video for “Little Liar” is very cool and very animated… First of all IF you’ve got any suicidal tendencies, I’d advise you not to watch it. Why? Cos the story behind the video is about a few individuals jumping from what seems to be the tallest building in the world and whilst they’re nearing their demise, they seem to have the time of their lives! Think boy meets girl, boy kisses girl, boy does you know what with the girl, and all that whilst falling at 50mph and nearing their inevitable ends.

So why don’t you sit back, relax, see the video now, listen to the song, and hopefully appreciate the fact that “Little Liar” is good enough to reward Parlement’s lack of bullshit and a straight to the point rock’n’roll attitude, clearly lacking in many bands nowadays…

The mind of an artist is a fascinating subject; Forever flowing inwardly, constantly unraveling to reveal new and unexpected layers deep beneath the surface, only to return with an unearthed gem translated through our Self and given as a gift to the world. This gift is art, and we are merely scribes, translating a truth that we hold sacred deep inside ourselves.

As an independent artist, I identify with the hundreds of thousands of others who stay up into the wee hours of the morning, grinding away at their craft. Personally, my chosen medium is filmmaking. As filmmakers, we are doing much more than just telling stories. We are exploring the depths of our imaginations. Movies encompass virtually every form of art, so I get plenty of opportunities to meet and collaborate with a multitude of artists from all walks of life. I have seen artists who bleed for their craft, and I recognize their struggle. After all - there is no such thing as an overnight success. What you don’t see are the countless years of hard work and integrity that were necessary for the success of any artist deemed as an “overnight success.”

My hometown is Niagara Falls, NY. I’ve lived here my entire life. Maybe it’s the waterfall, but there is an incredible creative energy in the city. I personally know dozens of local artists; hip hop artists, writers, singers, graphic designers, painters, actors and filmmakers.. We have all come together as a collective to form the Niagara Renaissance Movement, a term that defines our collaborative vision for both our city and for independent artists globally. Our once great city has seen better days, with high crime rates and even higher rates of unemployment or households on some form of government assistance. It’s easy to see the parallels between our current situation and the birth of world shaking artists during the Harlem Renaissance.

One such artist is Niagara Falls local Saladin Allah, father of two teenage daughters [Asiyah and Aziza] who is a self published author of eleven books and a creative artist. He has produced/recorded three independent albums through his company Quanaah Publishing. One of the most recognizable faces of the Five Percent Nation, in 2014 Saladin was globally cited as a subject matter expert regarding controversy surrounding Jay Z wearing a five percenter medallion. In addition, Saladin worked as a program consultant for the History Channel show “Gangland.” He publishes bi-monthly articles via his website A.S.I.A and travels as a public speaker. I first met Saladin at my studio and we hit it off. He coined the name for our movement, which has quickly gathered hundreds of members in our small city.

To quote Saladin, “We are not just a genetic composite of all who came before us, we are also a composite creatively. Therefore, as we pay homage to those who came before us, we use our talent to prepare a way for future generations.” Peace!

The prodigiously talented 26-year-old Khan was a noteworthy standout amongst 15 of 100 registered applicants throughout the United Kingdom to receive an official invitation to attend a seminar at TNA Impact Wrestling Gut Check in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

The major appearance presented the naturally athletic Khan with the golden opportunity to earn an exclusive contract with TNA Impact Wrestling. TNA Impact Wrestling has consistently hosted major sold-out shows inside Wembley Arena in London, United Kingdom and airs weekly on Destination America; Zaid Khan met Olympic Gold medalist Kurt Angle, "The Vigilante" Sting and WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan during the vastly marquee TNA Impact Wrestling Gutcheck event.

The ever-imposing 6"2 220 pound Professional Wrestler is a British resident of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Furthermore, the svelte Briton received a major tryout with WWE. How was your overall experience regarding your invitational try-out with WWE?

Incredible experience. The professionalism, the training, the work-ethic and most of all, the coaching. William Regal, Bill DeMott and Sami Zayn.

When did your love affair with professional wrestling begin?

Around from the age of 3-4. My older siblings were huge fans and that's how I got to see it and immediately was hooked. This was around the Hulk Hogan era and then Bret Hart, so they played a massive role in inspiring me.

Which revered sports-entertainers in the business have provided positive feedback and encouragement based on your work?

I've had quite a few, but the ones that stand out for great advice being who they are were Kurt Angle and Hulk Hogan from my TNA Gutcheck a few years ago. Also, Bill DeMott had major praise for my work during the WWE try-outs.

Can you explain in detail about the fitness and performance products that you’re currently endorsing?

I am endorsing QSN because it fills a gap in the market. It's here to change the misconception of such products and appeal to non-body builders too. We want to reach everyone, not just the typical market supplements appeal to. I want to educate about the benefits of ingredients such as zinc and magnesium and how beneficial this is to everyone, not just gym-goers and athletes. For example, magnesium found in QSN ZMA contains vitamin B6, MCT oils and is beneficial for the mind and helps protect against allergies. Currently, QSN customers are everyone from MMA fighters to post-Partum women, and that's the appeal of it.

What can WWE do to improve the present landscape of the divas division?

The 'Total Divas' show has helped give some of the divas more exposure that they deserve. It would be good to see more diversity in the Divas division also, which would mirror what we already see with the male wrestlers. Even increasing the amount of titles with them (e.g. Tag-team titles)

What advice would you provide to aspiring professional wrestlers?

First and foremost, it's dedication and discipline. It very much is a lifestyle decision, everything from eating clean to daily training - this all has to change. It helps to have a background in sports, especially combat. I myself started in amateur boxing and this definitely helped me progress by understanding the basics around respecting coaches and dedicating time to your sport. Second to the above, I would say finding the right gym and coach is paramount. I had to train at a few different places before I found the right fit.

In the light of the recent Bill DeMott controversy, have you ever experienced prejudice in the business based on your heritage?

Fortunately, I have not experienced any overt prejudicial behavior, but I have found that the business does want you to fit into a stereotype character based on heritage which I find very dated. Your ability should be the only determining factor not your race, religion or creed.

What is the proudest accomplishment to date in your ever-growing career?

As cliché as it may sound, when young fans approach you saying that you inspire them. I don't think you can ever tire of that!

Who conceived of the nickname “Picture Perfect”?

My beautiful, intelligent sister. That's the only payment she's getting for it too!

Which professional wrestler – past or present – would you like to compete against?

Without a doubt, Hulk Hogan. You had to have a special talent to have a rivalry with the Hulkster. He is definitely my first hero in wrestling and is the reason I am a super fan and now wrestler

NFL Sports Agents might as well be CIA Agents in the world of the average person. We know they exist, we know they accomplish some AMAZING *ish on behalf of those they represent. What we DON’T know is, how do you join the elite and mysterious worlds of folks who, behind the scenes, create life changing situations for a lot of people.

I can’t help you with the CIA info, but I did get a chance to chop it up with one of the bright stars of the NFL Players Association Certified Contract Advisors aka Sports Agent world. Sean P. Stellato is a young lion in the game, his roster currently includes three Super Bowl Champion clients, record holding athletes and young hopefuls looking to make “The League.”

A former professional athlete himself, Sean is also the author of two celebrated sports novels, “No Backing Down” and “4th and Long The Odds: My Journey.” His poignant stories of coming up against all odds from High School through the professional ranks are masterpieces celebrating intestinal fortitude and the no surrender, make it happen mindset.

SOLO: Keepin' The Dream Alive

Welcome Back! Now first things first, please introduce for me the members of SOLO...

Dan; Smooth Tenor, D Nell; Raspy Tenor (and) Rob; Upright Bassist.

So, where have you all been? And, what exactly have you all been up to, from both a personal and professional stand-point, during this lengthy musical hiatus?

Well, personally, we have been living! Some of us have married, had children, divorced, gotten Master's Degrees, and reconnected with life. In addition, we each remained connected to music in some way. For instance, Dan worked behind the scenes with up and coming artists; doing music, arranging vocals and commercials...D Nell continued touring the world, as a featured vocalist on cruise ships, and Rob continued with his jazz band, as well as worked for Steinway Pianos building pianos.

Why did you all opt to remain absent from music for such a long period of time?

Unfortunately, we got caught in the music industry restructuring that occurred in the late '90's, and were released form our contract with then A&M Records. Music trends had changed so much, many started saying our type of music was over and we started to believe them. We did not decide to come back until we started hearing internet chatter from our fans. They wondered where we were and why we vanished from the industry.

It appears that you all have FINALLY returned to making music again -- Please lemme know how SOLO '15 measures up to what you all are already both known and loved for circa, say, 1995?

We are definitely back and committed to keeping our brand of R&B alive and well. We feel that the SOLO 2015 remains true to our roots of R&B soul. We wanted to take the essence of our debut and bring it to this decade. We asked ourselves what would SOLO sound like if we came out today. For us, that meant lots of feel good, soul stirring music, that referenced our musical history of R&B, but was solidly based in contemporary production and feel. We think that we succeeded in building from the foundation that Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis established, and hope that it makes them proud.

As an extension to that last question, how have you all [SOLO] either changed and/or evolved since your whole inception into music?

We have evolved a lot since our last album '4 Bruthas and A Bass.' We no longer feel like abandoned little boys - like the cover photo on that album - but today we are accomplished men with some great stories to tell. We've learned by living and necessity. We've grown personally and musically, and those things are present in our songs; helping to make this album authentic, personal and honest.

You all titled the EP, 3.0 Rebooted -- Conceptually, what does that name represent both to and for you all?

'3.0' is a direct reference to the fact that we are now 3 members and no longer 4. One of the founding members of the group quit for a 3rd time - since its inception - sighting health reasons and dreams of pursuing other aspirations. We hold no hard feelings and wish him the best. This time, we chose to continue without him and give our fans what they wanted by pressing on.

...The word "Rebooted" is an ode to the digital era of music and rebooting our careers in this digital age. Conceptually, '3.0 Rebooted' together means we restarting, refreshing, our careers and our type of R&B. It means we are open to the new-ness and creativity of the time we live in now. It's almost like everything is new again.

What can you all reveal and/or divulge about the new material(s)? Producers? Favorite track(s)? Etcetera?

This album is fun, uplifting and full of feel good music, with the harmonies we are known for. It also has some sexy bangers to get the mood started and finished. We called on personal relationships from some of our closest friends, family and band members, to make the music on this project as personal as possible. We worked with great producers; like Maurice "Majik" Reed, Jonathan "Bonkaz" Howard, Lez Lemon, J.P. DeLaire and Maurice Anderson. We also wrote and arranged every song on this EP...Some of our favorite songs are "MF Keeper," the good man's anthem! ...Everybody needs a sexy beggin' song like "Stay the Night," and we even have (an) uplifting song called "OK," that most will not be able (to) resist singing along to. There is something for everyone on this album.

How does 3.0 Rebooted either differ and/or compare to previous SOLO efforts?

It continues to be inspired by the shoulders of giants that we - and everyone after them - continue to stand on. Giants like The Temptations, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, The Jacksons, Babyface...We could go on and on. '3.0' is meant to keep the dream of R&B alive, connecting us and those who may enjoy our music to our collective past, while pressing on toward our unknown futures. It's our attempt to continue the R&B legacy for decades to come.

Let's retrace your musical roots, when did you all first become interested in music?

Our roots are interesting...Dan first became interested in music because his mom and her sisters had a singing group called The Imperialettes. I recall being a toddler looking up at them from the floor as they rehearsed in a circle. That's where I got the love of harmony. D Nell's mom was also a singer, and in her teens she recorded music professionally. D Nell is also a distant cousin to Sam Cooke. So, you can say music is in the blood.

And, with that being said, how did you all even come together to form SOLO?

Solo was formed with D Nell and two other founding members, (who) met in California, and decided to hitchhike across the country to sing at The Apollo's Showtime at the Apollo. They made it across country, only to start singing in the streets and subways to survive. Rob met the group while singing in the subway, and decided to offer to add his upright bass to the classic harmonies. Dan was later introduced by a mutual friend of the group, and was invited to join after hanging out and singing dozens of songs with the group on a New York street corner. We did make it to The Apollo, but as a guest artist.

Where does your moniker, SOLO, originally derive from?

The name SOLO means "One" in Spanish. When we harmonize, we sing as one! It also was meant to recognize that each one of us could stand alone as a SOLO artist.

What particular string of events led to your initial hooking up with Jimmy Jame & Terry Lewis, ultimately inking to their now defunct Perspective Records imprint?

Jimmy and Terry were both in New York City...We were singing on the corner of Prince Street in SOHO - an artsy section of N.Y.C. - Terry Lewis and his, then, wife Karyn White, first saw us as they were shopping on foot. They gave us money and a card asking us to call him. Later in the day, Jimmy Jam was in a taxi that happened to be stopped in on the corner we were singing. He was really impressed! That evening, Jimmy mentioned his experience to Terry. Once they both mentioned the upright bass, they realized they had saw the same group of guys. They flew us out to Minneapolis and the rest is history.

Longevity, what do you all attribute yours to?

We attribute our longevity to the fans of R&B, who have inspired and uplifted us and our talents. They truly sustained us through moments of self doubt. We also attribute it to fortitude, belief in our talents and to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, for establishing a solid foundation of classics from which we could build. They truly gave us songs that are lasting the test of time.

Do you all have any other outside/additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

Sure, we have dreams of establishing the SOLO brand to other areas outside of music; areas like (a) legitimate fashion brand, writing a book about our story, maybe a movie or a Broadway play...We are interested in beverages, radio and or correspondents shows, business, and even music education.
To date, what has been your biggest career moment(s)?

Some of our biggest career moments were working with Jimmy and Terry, singing for Michael Jackson, being nominated for a Soul Train Album of the Year (Award), performing for/or with legends like Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Gerald Levert, Quincy Jones...And, seeing people's mood change from the sound of our voices.

On a more serious note, are you all happy with the current state of R&B? And, where do you all "fit in" when it comes to the overall sound-scape of today's musical trends?

We are not happy with the current state of R&B, but we are not sad about it either. R&B is alive and is still influencing music today, but in a different way than when we were out. We disagree with those who perpetuate the notion that R&B is dead. We know that music trends tend to be cyclical. R&B will have its day in the sun again, and we would like to be there when it does.

Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years down the line, where do you all see yourselves?

We see ourselves with several NEW chart-topping albums and singles under our belts, having a few Grammys on our mantels, being ambassadors of R&B in some respect, touring when we want and having established a multi-medium brand, that is as timeless as some of the giant legends whose shoulders we proudly stand on.

As for the immediate, what's next for SOLO?

Next, we finish mixing and mastering the new music and we release the EP in April. We also look forward to releasing a second single and video, and plan to be performing the new music; touring in some capacity this year.

Captain Casket: Crazy Lil Journey

Now you're currently in the process of working on not one but three separate projects, correct? Just to be clear, you have your debut solo LP, Grind Therapy, as well as The 80 Loafs EP and Psychedelic Wiseguy -- Tell me about all 3 individual efforts?

I've been working on Grind Therapy the longest of the 3; been a few years in the making for that one. I feel that it's my "Illmatic" honestly. The 80 Loafs EP is the first part of a 3 EP series, following with The Rise Of 80 and ending with The Life Of Loafs. Psychedelic Wiseguy is a collaborative effort with my man TaliBoom; he produced every track on it.

Conceptually, what do those 3 different titles represent both to and for you?

Conceptually, Grind Therapy represents my life from when I was knee deep in the streets, to failed relationships, to my love affair with Hennessy, my aggression, my emotions...Just my life. I'm a hustler by nature -- and so hands on with everything -- so in the midst of all the chaos around, the grind is actually therapeutic to me. Psychedelic Wiseguy wasn't planned at all. It came about cooking in the studio wit my man, TaliBoom. I did a record called "Stronger," and that birthed the whole feel for the project. Ironic how that was the first song recorded, but is the final song on the the album. We built everything about it from scratch -- it's my perspective of a day in the life of a mid level street hustler coming from Yonkers -- it's like we're the dirt swept out of N.Y.C.. The sound it created was very trippy and raw! I wanted it to feel when listening to it how the movie (The) Warriors made u feel watching it. ...The 80 Loafs EP is plenty of lyrical bravado; bass heavy beats with real instrument sounds, a lot of the hooks consisting of melody and harmonies. The name "80 Loafs" is an alias of mine and The 80 Loafs EP is the 1st taste of the 3 part installment. I'm always teetering back and forth on which project is my favorite, but I'm truly proud of all of them.

How does each body of work either differ and/or compare to one another?

All 3, individually, have a consistent feel and sound throughout them. And they all paint a different picture, but yet it's my picture just seen from different perspectives I guess.

Reflecting, how did you first discover your musical talent?

I actually always been a Hip Hop fan for as long as I can remember. My older cousin, Mal, and my man, Theory, were rapping, and me being the youngest in the crew followed protocol. *Laughs* I was about 14 when I really started recording with them; 12 and 13 when I dabbled in writing my first raps. I knew I was good, but my older heads are who really seen something special in me.

Who have been your greatest inspirations musically and why?

My biggest inspiration musically has got to be Nas. I feel we as fans gravitate to music that we can relate to. His music always left a lasting impact on me. X and The Lox were influential especially coming from my hometown. I also like some newer artists as well, but "liking" doesn't always equal to "inspired by."

How then would you describe and/or define the style of music that you create and perform?

I don't like to classify myself in a specific category of rap, such as "gangster" or "hipster" and so on, but I am a dude that played the streets like most other urban males...So I do take pride in bringing substance in my music though, and displaying skill, even on the lesser heartfelt and more "turnt up" tracks.

Where do(es) your moniker(s), Captain Casket, a.k.a. Pastor Paper, originally derive from?

The call me "The Captain" where I'm from. I'm The Captain of the ship! I'm not the leader of my camp by any means, as far as I'm above anyone or anyone is under me, I just take on responsibility of getting things done and making shit happen for my circle. As for "Pastor Paper," I always been known to make a dollar.

What do you feel you offer the music industry that we don't already have in other performers?

Not necessarily that we don't have but maybe a lack of, and that being authenticity. I'm passionate and raw as fuck on records! I want my music to stick with you past just a certain time period. Hair raising feel it in your bones shit!

Have you encountered any problems in getting to this point in your career?

I'm an Indie act, so there's always many obstacles on that road...And with the excess of wack music out nowadays from up and comers, a big obstacle is even getting people to pay your craft the time of day. But, I'm blessed to have had the success and achievements that I do at this point in my career. Thanks be to hard work and God!

What do you want people to get from your music?

Beanie Sigel The Truth, Nas classics, Hov classics, Kendrick good kid, m.A.A.d city, etcetera...Basically, a long lasting experience!

When can we, the masses, expect some of that new music from you?

(I just dropped) a single titled "Mayday," that's not on any of the projects, along with a project on some classic Golden Era cuts titled 1%er shortly...And then, The 80 Loafs EP is looking like an early summertime release.

Longevity, what do you feel has been the ultimate key to your success thus far? And, of course, what will continue to sustain you in this grueling business of music?

Truthfully, with or without success I'd be doing this 'cause outside of my loved ones -- and that's even debatable -- I have never loved anything like creating music; the whole process of it and to have a finished product out there touching the people...It's my drug, honestly. I'm just blessed to be smart enough to have made moves to get further than a talented local rapper. I'm making more and more moves daily in the record business, so that's my plan to continue to handle business, network, and gain supporters.

Do you have any other outside/additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

I'm very interested in inspiring others. I'm a big believer in the Lord, so I have a passion for preaching also; but in a more youthful approach. I don't like politics, but I do want to help my community which I do certain things now but on (a) much bigger scale. I have my first daughter on the way, and would like to get a degree, most likely in psychology. That's one of my goals, eventually.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop music?

Yeah, I mean there's shit I like, shit I love, shit I don't care too much for, but that's the beauty of it! There's a lane for everything and everyone. I don't dwell on things I don't like anymore; I'd rather support things I do.
If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Nas, the (Red Hot) Chili Peppers, Kendrick, Ab-Soul...There's more, but that's just off top a few.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

Coming from New York -- born and raised -- The Garden is definitely probably the ultimate venue to perform in for me. But, all the biggest Hip Hop festivals; Coachella for example .

One track of yours that you think defines you and why?

I have a record on Grind Therapy called "Crazy Lil Journey," and it basically gives my story in 3 verses...How I executed that?!? Your guess (is) as good as mine!

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention?

Sariah: Empowerment

Let's hop right into your latest single, "Cold Blooded" -- Tell me about this particular track? How did it actually come to fruition?

“Cold Blooded” was a really special collaboration of Bird Call Productions, Soaky Siren and myself. They had a brilliant track created and (an) idea for the song. I was preparing for my writing sessions before heading to L.A. and I wanted to have an anthem song on my EP. Soaky is an incredible writer, and she knew just from song titles I had written exactly how and what I wanted to say. In one day’s session, we had completed “Cold Blooded.” I am so proud of it, and excited for the world to have it.

"Cold Blooded" comes courtesy of your new project Queen of Hearts EP -- Conceptually, what does that title represent both to and for you?

I am the “Queen of Hearts”; beginning from when I was born. My nickname was “Queenie” growing up, and I have always been a very passionate and loving woman. So naturally as I began writing my songs of love and even heartbreak, the idea of branding my entire journey came naturally. I am MOST excited about this EP more than anything I have ever created.

Reflecting, how did you first discover your musical talent?

As a little girl, I was always performing, singing and dancing for any company we would have. It has always been in my blood. It is all I know. I am so thankful for such a supportive family, because being on the stage is home for me!

Who have been your greatest inspirations musically and why?

Everything around me is a constant inspiration for me. Growing up, I studied Musical Theater. I would always gravitate to the more pop/rock style shows of course! When it came to divas, Mariah Carey was the first idol I had growing up. I would put on her CD’s in my Discman and play them over and over until I knew every word. Soon, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera became the top young pop sensations. I love them all and still do! When it comes to songwriting, I admire Sara Bareilles, Jessie J and Sam Smith. I love learning about new artists and listening to the classics; such as Joni Mitchell, Bette Midler and even Frank Sinatra. There is inspiration in every word.

How then would you describe and/or define the style of music that you create and perform?

I create and perform Dance/Pop Anthems, with a passionate message of self worth!

What do you feel you offer the music industry that we don't already have in other performers?

I bring a classic style, with a sexy, powerful and edgy twist! I bring a brand and an all around female empowering story, which I hope everyone all around the world can connect with! I just want to touch lives and heal people with my music.

Have you encountered any problems in getting to this point in your career?

I don’t like to call them problems necessarily…More like hurdles! I don’t regret anything. I think everything we go through helps us get to the next chapter in our lives.

What do you want people to get from your music?

I want them to get a heartbeat in their chest that allows them to feel free to escape from their troubles. I want my music to heal. I want people to connect to my lyrics and know they aren’t alone.

Longevity, what do you feel it has been that is the ultimate key to your success thus far? And, of course, what will continue to sustain you in this grueling business of music?

The ultimate key to my success has been the fire inside me that is never satisfied. I always need more! I think this will keep me pushing and pushing through, no matter WHAT! I will never stop.

Do you have any other outside/additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

Everything I do begins from my music. I eventually want to create a music healing program for hospitals, nursing homes and for those who just want an incredible experience. I also am creating my own make-up line this year, which is inspired by the Red Queen. *Smiles*

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Pop-ular music?

There are many elements I am inspired by in the current state of Pop-ular music. I think what upsets me though is all of the illegal downloading of material that we work so, so hard on. I know technology is pretty powerful, but it is beautiful art that we all are creating. I just want it to be cherished!

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Oh, wow, what a great question...That is a tough one! I would love to write with Carole King.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

MADISON SQUARE GARDEN! New York City is the center of everything!

One track of yours that you think defines you and why?

From this EP, I would say “Cold Blooded.” It’s a huge step for me in a very empowering direction.

Scott King [Formally Q Da Kid]: My Story...My Pain...My Life

Let's hop right into your latest single/video, "The Real" -- Tell me about this particular track? How did it actually come about?

The concept was basically I wanted to make a Hip Hop sounding song; something from the essence with raw scratching on (it). That's where the idea came from for calling it "The Real," 'cause this how real Hip Hop sounded at one point. I have always been a fan of producers such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock, No I.D., which I've had a chance to work with all 3...Can't wait to share those with the world!

Reflecting, tell me your whole inception into music -- When did you first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for the artist formerly known as Q Da Kid?

I been in love with the Art of music, the culture...Just the thought knowing I could share my story with people that probably have the same story. My main thing is, you have to be relatable (to) people; honor the truth...I was always interested in music. My father was a drummer; he played in a band and my uncles also, so music is in my blood. But, I would hear my brother playin' songs from (Big Daddy) Kane, Rakim, EPMD, and thought, 'Damn, I love how they put words together!' They had lyrics, a story...They made (you) understand what they was seeing through their eyes and projected it through music...And they had original images, not the gimmick shit I see now .Q Da Kid derived and came about from producers Cool & Dre. I always had (a) super baby face every time I was around them, (so) they would refer to me as 'Da Kid'...That just stuck! People called me Q; I just merged the two .

Now where exactly do you hail from? And growing up there, who all did/do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

Brooklyn, New York...Flatbush to be exact! Growing (up), I considered rappers like Kane and Rakim strongest influences...And, of course, B.I.G., Jay-Z (and) Nas also.

How then would you describe and/or define the style of music that you create and perform?

I define it (as) 'Realistic,' 'cause most of my music (is) actually my story; something I'm going through or something I witnessed happen to someone around. The more you give people pertaining to your life, I think it's more they get to know who you are beyond the artist, and that's the key.

What was it that prompted your decision to later change your moniker from Q Da Kid to the more 'regular' sounding Scotty King?

Scott is my family name; my mother's last name originally before marriage. My grandmother, aunts and uncles, all carry the name. (A) few years ago, my grandmother passed (so) that's when I made the decision to use the name. Honestly, it meant something and I wanted to keep my grandmother's memory alive. She was someone who supported my journey to being a Hip Hop artist. She always told me, 'One day God will bless you, just pray!' And, I try to do as she told me. Just being patient ('cause) I know in my heart my moment is close. The King comes from the thought that Every man should feel a King; a leader. Plus, I'm from the County of Kings! *Chuckles*

Let's retrace your musical journey thus far...For starters, you were the very first artist signed to the now defunct Tag Records, through Island Def Jam, back in the mid-nineties -- How did this venture happen? And, why didn't anything ever materialize from this union?

The deal came about in early '09; officially an idea (of) Proctor & Gamble's. (They) wanted to try and they was looking for a rapper with a message. Me knowing and dealing with JD [Jermaine Dupri], he hit me up and told me about the move and I was ecstatic! ...Started off great, but (time) went by (and) things started to go downhill when JD and L.A. Reid started bumping heads. L.A. wanted more production made to complete, JD felt like he wanted more focus on the single. Things got heated! Jermaine was fired by L.A. and things went haywire. A lot of people never knew the extent of what happened. Jermaine, in my opinion, fucked it up...So with him fired, I was left with no guidance and direction. I then just contacted my lawyer and got my deal terminated.

From there, you linked up with Violator Records, and alongside both Red Café and Gravy formed the no longer active musical trio Da Franchise, yet things stalled out with that situation as well -- How come?

No comment on that...We could skip on this!

Next, there was a short lived stint with the aforementioned producers Cool & Dre out in Miami, followed by your inking to Jermaine Dupri's So So Def imprint, through Virgin at the time, but, yet again, nothing really came to fruition with either of these relationships either -- At this point in your career, what kept you from allowing the frustrations of having so many promising avenues fall apart to just say, "forget it all!" and throw in the towel altogether? How then did you gather the strength to not give up given all of these disappointing circumstances?

I had trust in JD; I believed he had my best interest...Apparently Not! The Virgin deal was sorta like (the) Def Jam situation; he did the deal months later. He signed me to (a) single deal, and yet again he was fired! But being loyal, I stuck around with him but kept on getting burned. So, I just totally cut all ties and communication. Sometime it's the thing you think is good, sometimes be the bad thing. When you got dead weight on you, it's hard to move at the speed you need to.

Through it all though, you did, however, manage to collaborate with a bevy of high profile artists; Fabolous, Ne-Yo, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Trey Songz, to name some -- In having said this, what was it like at this time in your life to basically be in the midst of it all and keeping company with some of the industry biggest A-Listers?

I've met a lot of artists just from being in the right places, traveling and just being myself. Being humble sometimes is a plus. I let my talent speak for itself and my personality is down to earth, so it makes people gravitate to me as a person and not just an artist. I be around, but my conversation never be. 'Oh, let's do a song or I need you on this and that!?" I be more on some poly and build a relationships first. That's genuine, so most (of the) time when I ask an artist to jump on a record, they will come through.

Longevity, what do you attribute yours to? What has been the overall key to your success?

Staying grounded and believing. I know the game is up and down, but you gotta create that shit; that picture so vivid they think Warhol helped you! *Laughs* What kept me successful in my mind has been my determination and my drive; when one door close, I go find another one to open.

How have you either changed and/or evolved since your earliest beginnings in music?

I think I have found myself, my vision, my flow...Before, I think I was trying (to) find what my niche was, what my lane would be, when I realized that I just had to be myself however long it takes. I (would) rather grind hard than sit back and wait for a handout.

Do you have any other outside/additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

I definitely wanna do the acting thing! I'm working a reality pitch now; something that's more relatable showing the reality of Hip Hop, but also creating my own label...Sign some acts, but TV definitely.

To date, what has been your biggest Hip-Hop moment, at least so far anyway?

Performing live in front of 18,000 people. The nervousness is a thrill (and) just being (able) to see people react to your music; seeing their response.

What do you feel you offer the music industry that we don't already have in other performers?
That music showcasing talent, such as lyrics and content; music with a message. It's millions of people who think exactly as I do...Some artists think about the moment when it's about the long haul (and) being remembered being called a legend. I want to get in and be considered an icon and be a part of the Hip Hop History when people ask who was dope rappers of my era...I wanna be one of them!

What do you want people to get from your music?

My story, my pain, my life...Music is about enhancing a person's mood depending on the type (of) song it is. Every record showcases a different side of people. I want to get my message (out) that when when one person says you can't do it, as long as you prove them wrong is the goal. Good music is the key; and being yourself.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop?

I mean, some people they (put their) self in a box 'cause they feel like they have to follow trends and sounds; meaning artists will hear another artist's song and be like, 'I wanna do a record like that!' ...Instead of wanting to make a song that's original. You should want artists to wanna be like you! It's less originality now, but I think it's a lot of talent now; young artists that are independent are makin' moves and that's something I salute a lot of rappers (for) nowadays, so it's 50/50 with me.

And as an extension to this question, where exactly do you "fit in" when it comes to today's trending musical sound-scape?

I think I fit in, but because I don't make that 'Turn Up' music regularly, it's making things harder for me...But it takes consistency. I think I fit in totally somewhere at the top! *More laughs ensue* Even artists have a fan-base out there that would accept their craft, you just gotta find the audience you appeal to.

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Dead, hmm...Of course B.I.G., and, living, of course Jay-Z...Both (of) them embody an element...Both of them told their stories and came from an environment I came up from, so just the borough.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

Madison Square Garden. Being from New York, that's like a Huge Huge accomplishment...Playin' 'The Garden'; that's when you know You Made It! The Barclays (Center) also; performing in the hometown would be monumental.

One track of yours that you think defines you and why?

I think the new song "The Real" defines me because the title alone is a statement. The song portrays confidence and touches on what I hate about the game. "The Real" basically letting people (know) I'm authentic.

Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years down the road, where do you see yourself?

Somewhere rich on TV or (the) movie screen, somewhere giving back...Showing my daughter the good life, and investing.

As for the immediate, what's next for you, Sir?

Working on an EP called All Things Must Pass, and working on (an) album with super-producer Drumma Boy, which I also have a production deal with now. So, that's what's next! Drop more music and more videos. #DrumSquad

Let's hop right into your latest project, Midnight Mob -- Conceptually, what does that title represent both to and for you?

The idea for the title actually started with a track that didn't make the album because of timing, but it should hopefully be released sometime this year. I look at the crew of people who contributed to the project as my musical army, so the title 'Midnight Mob' really fits for me.

For it, of course, you teamed up with Abstract Rude, Oh Blimey and Kelley Mak, with production duties handled by Cory O, Timmy Tutone, DJ Puzzle, The OriGinALz and Cryptex -- Tell me how these collaborations came about?

At (the) start of the project, Cory O, who I've worked with for 3 years now, was the first producer on board...And then, Abstract Rude, who is a good friend of mine, agreed to do a feature with the two of us. MalLabel started the ball rolling (and) asking more producers to be a part of album. DJ Puzzle and Timmy Tutone jumped on the opportunity from the gate; they were both awesome to work with. Mal also connected me with Oh Blimey. I've always been a fan of her style and I've always wanted to work with her, so it's really dope to have her as a feature on the project. After that, I hit up a ton of my favorite bass/glitch-hop producers on my own...Ones I knew had experience with vocals; Cryptex and The OriGinALz hit me back and were both super excited to work with me. They sent me beats right away! Kelley, being the badass that she is, just hit me up one day on Facebook. I had been meaning to check her tunes, so I did (and) after I heard her sing I had to get her on a track.

Midnight Mob also comes courtesy of EDM indie label, MalLabel -- What particular string of events actually led to this unification?

I met Mal when she was throwing underground bass parties in the Bay Area and had first started the label around 2007; we've been homies ever since! I was rapping at bass parties occasionally, like Ritual and Emissions Festival, (but) it was after I put out my mix-tape, 'Low Rider Time Machine,' that she hit me up to do an album. MalLabel has been so dope to work with, and I'm really happy to be a part of such a talented group of musicians and a label that's putting out quality music and who really supports their artists.

Reflecting, how did you first discover your musical talent? And, who exactly have been your greatest inspirations musically and why?

My older brother, he had me listening to Bob Marley and Biggie when I was 7 years old. He made me mix-tapes, he spun me records, and we would freestyle together for fun; that's how I first started rapping. He (also) introduced me to scratching! From there, I became a big fan of (DJ) QBert and the Invisibl Skratch Piklz. I had a chance to meet Q a few times...He was a customer at this cafe I worked at when I was 17, I told him I was rapping a little, and he was the very first musician I respected to encourage me to continue to make music and work on getting my skills up. From then on, QBert has always been one of my biggest inspirations. Also, I have to mention a rapper named Black Mic; he is the first rapper I'd ever heard spit on West Coast bass style beats. Hearing his music really shaped my style; he is still one of my favorite rappers.

How then would you describe and/or define the style of music that you create and perform?

West Coast bass meets rap. My album is more for listening, but when I perform I come to party and get hype! I perform with a live DJ. Our set is a blend of lyrics, mixing, and bass heavy party music. We perform songs, but we also freestyle; I vibe off the DJ, the DJ vibes off me.

What do you feel you offer the music industry that we don't already have in other performers?

My sets are a Hip Hop show meets a hype ass dance party! I'm lucky to be connected to so many dope bass producers, so I have access to beats that help me push the boundaries of rap; I'm able to keep things fresh and new. I'm always pushing myself to take my skills to the next level; to keep elevating. I show my love for all different styles of rap.

Have you encountered any problems in getting to this point in your career?

Being innovative, it's hard for people to understand my music right away...But as popular Hip Hop is becoming more EDM, I see a lot more fans gravitating to my music.

What do you want people to get from your music?

Anyone can take anything they want from my music; I just hope they enjoy it.

Longevity, what do you feel has been the ultimate key to your success thus far? And, of course, what will continue to sustain you in this grueling business of music?

I think that making the music I want to hear and not the music I think people want to hear, has really been the key to getting as far as I have. Also, being able to connect with producers who are excited to work with a rapper and share the love of making music, as well as connecting with hardworking people in the industry in general.

Do you have any other outside/additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

I've got lots of aspirations, but music will always take a front seat to everything, besides my work career.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of music? And, as an extension to this question, where exactly do you "fit in" when it comes to today's musical trends?

I've had opinions on all ends of the spectrum as far as the state of music goes, but these days I've realized that musicians don't make the scene; the fans do! It's fun to watch what's popular and what falls off; there are things I dig and things I don't, but I respect it all.

...I definitely feel there is place for what I do within all of the different trends in Hip Hop and electronic music right now...I'm seeing a lot more live vocalists perform with EDM DJs; I know my sound has a place in it all.

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Method Man, (a.k.a.) Johnny Blaze, he's one of my favorite rappers of all time.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

Red Rocks (Amphitheatre), Colorado.

One track of yours that you think defines you and why?

"Auxiliary In," produced by DJ Puzzle, the first track off 'Midnight Mob.' The track is actually (a) sequel to my mix-tape 'Low Rider Time Machine.' A lot of my tunes have a space age vibe to them; it's a reoccurring subject I love to touch on in all of my projects.

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention?

We've got music videos for "The Flava," produced by The OriGinALz and "Auxiliary In," produced by DJ Puzzle, dropping very soon; both done by my homies at Soundlapse.

Who is Jason Forte, and where are you from?

Jason Forte CEO of Day1pro LLC, Founder of Getspinz.com and I Need A Feature.com I am from Washington DC.

How did you prepare yourself to step into the entrepreneurial arena?

I envisioned myself as a successful businessman and focused on that. I didn't know what I wanted to do, however I knew I wanted it to be something that was on my terms I didn't want to work a 9 to 5 like most of my piers. So I started writing books, movie scripts, reality tv concepts, you name it... That took my all across the nation and I got the chance to meet some influential people. This let me know that I was on the rite track.

What prompted you to venture into the entertainment industry?

I wanted help artist reach their dreams, and looked at music as a multi-billion dollar industry. I knew if I worked for 10 years non stop I would be okay. Success is not an accident.

Who are some of the business personalities you studied as you developed your business model?

Master P, Damon Dash, Russell Simmons, Dave Mays & Benzino, 50cent, and Slim of Cash Money Records.

If you could describe your style of management in one word, what would it be and why?

Real, because it is hard to know the industry and easy for artist to be mislead. I believe in educating as well as management, so artist can research what I am saying to see if its accurate. This is a mild form of artist development but it lets the artist know that you have their back and that means a lot to them.

What keeps the fire burning hot for you as regards being an entrepreneur?

The ability to create new avenues of income and never putting myself in one box. "I try to think and live outside the box"

What are the key factors that draw your attention to a business opportunity?

1. Does it have Home Run Potential (HRP) this will let me know if its worth my time.

2. Start up cost: this is to gauge the risk involved

3. Time frame: This lets me know how long it would take for me to recoup my investment or turn a profit.

You have built a power circle of subject matter experts within your company, what was your process to weed through the multitude of people looking to work with you?

Time and energy, it took about 8 years to form my team everyone say they can do this or that they can do that, but when it comes do to it they drop the ball. When you do come across people who can walk the walk then you come to terms and continue to search. Its like drafting and all-star team it takes time.

What do you seek to learn about each artist prior to working with them?

What artists are you listening to right now?

Young Dolph, Joe Green (RSN), Slim Jakson, Brickman Shawty, Shyglizzy, and 4EY to name a few. I try to listen to indie artist more than major because I'm an A&R I want to be a part of the next wave.

Who would you like to work with in the future?

Warner Brothers, FOX Network, Nike, Google, and NASCAR.

What about them makes them stand out in your mind as people you want to work with?

They all have longevity, anyone can be successful but can they maintain it? I would like to do projects that will change the landscape of the traditional models.

Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?

Yes, don't listen to people when they tell you that you cannot do something, they are not you and are afraid that you will reach your full potential.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know...What's your CRAZIEST "Where they do that at?!" moment...

Wow, lets see I was in Cali for a video shoot and the artist was wasted and tried to drive a loner vehicle down the wrong side of the highway going 80 mph. Luckily no one got injured.

Snoopy SoFly: From 'Hood To Good

Let's hop right into your latest single, "Str8 like Dat" -- Tell me about this particular track? And, how it actually came to fruition?

I was leaving a show in Lafayette, Louisiana, when I realized that I needed a new circle. That's because when real things come aware, people show their true colors...Which inspired the single "Str8 Like Dat," because I was just tired of the fakers and pretenders and needed to get it of my chest that nobody cares about you or what you have; it's about what you're doing to help the world!!

You dropped it courtesy of your very own imprint, NewSouthRecords LLC -- What are your future plans and/or goals for the label? And, who all, besides yourself of course, currently makes up its artist roster?

The first step is shows, shows, shows to make NewSouthRecords a known name, along with myself as its first main artist, grow a bigger fan-base and learn as we grow. Now once the wheels are up and the plane is flying, I will definitely be looking to sign new up'n'coming talent.

Reflecting, how did you first discover your musical talent?

At 8 years old, when my choir director wanted me to sing a solo of the spiritual song "Wade In The Water." I was so afraid at first that I held the song sheet in front of my face as I began singing! It was then when the congregation started to clap and cheer, I knew that I loved being in front of an audience. And every since then, that's what I've been doing; showing the world my talents.

Who have been your greatest inspirations musically and why?

Hands down, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Timbaland, DMX, Snoop Dogg and many more. But, I named these guys because I relate to each one of these guys in a different way. Jay-Z has been like my big brother of music; I learned so much from Jay on the business side. He inspired me to start my own label. Now my homey, 50, he's a marketing genius - a man of many talents - he showed me that a young man could go from 'hood to good if you really want it. Uncle Snoop, I have so much respect for! Uncle Snoop, there's a guy who's been in the game since back then and he's still in it and just bringing the most out our young black people. He's a guy you can reach out to and he'll show love if you're really on your grind. DMX...Who doesn't love X?! He showed me through Hip Hop that the Lord loves us. When I was growing up, I called him Preacher X, because he would take me to church on a Hip Hop beat...I'm talking it was always my church on Sunday. And then Timbaland...Man, over the years of me growing up I watched Timbaland take regular people and turn them into superstars...And I mean SUPERSTARS! I don't even need to name them 'cause he's the truth in Hip Hop. With all that said, I pay homage to all those who made it possible for me to come this far.

Where does your moniker originally derive from?

From everything in life; what I been through, what I've seen, what I know and keeping it real all the time. It's been my journey that made me the guy you're talkin' to today, and without that (there's) no telling where I would be. So to say to each its own, but I'm on and I'm getting it Str8 Like Dat!

In having said that, how would you describe and/or define the style of music that you create and perform?

Live, baby, all the way live...Or, like the new saying, Turnt Up! I give you a mixture of rock and Hip Hop, sprinkled with some common sense, mix that with a bangin' track, and you got Snoopy SoFly. Or, I'll give you some smooth laid back track, that's beating with bass, with a dab of "fly" and intellectuals and fire rhyme patterns...But overall, I call it speaking real.

What do you feel you offer the music industry that we don't already have in other performs?

Originality, real southern swagger, that style you haven't seen since the OG's of the game started. I'm talking that raw music, that actually makes sense; it makes you bob your head; it gets (you) amp'd or improves your day...I offer love!

Have you encountered any problems in getting to this point in your career?

Well, it's nothing I can't handle, but I can say I’ve had some good learning experiences on this journey, and a lot of things would have moved faster if I had my knowledge game up, but it made me what I am so I'm not complaining...I'm rollin' with the flow.

What do you want people to get from your music?

That it's possible to be your own creator your own boss and it's very possible to win in this game we call life, to never give up or stop your hustle and that it's all on you.

When can we, the masses, expect some new music from you?

I'm dropping the new mix-tape Smoke Drink Chill (very soon)!! Expect what you should from Snoopy SoFly, and that's the best. And then, a new single coming in the next couple of weeks. So, make sure to check and listen to the new joints!

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Signing my deal, moving to L.A. and still being healthy and humble; to have come so far in life and my beautiful kids .

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Jay-Z because he just has a presence on the track that's unique - just like myself - so it would be a perfect blend of two unique artists and businessmen. And not to mention, just to work with him would be a great accomplishment and honor.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose, and why?

The New Orleans' Mercedes-Benz Superdome. By that being my hometown, I want to bring my whole city out and rock with them because I love them and they love me!!

One track of yours that you think defines you and why?

"STR8 LIKE DAT!" That's why I named it what it is. I'm that guy that's like, "Why not?" and/or "Let's do it!" so everything about me is Str8 Like Dat!!

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention?

Yeah, I wanna shout out LRT Music Group because without their help I'd probably be dealing with some down bad people who don't care about my career so much; love Lisa and Audra!!

I got dissed in high school, so we started battle rappin'.

Who have been your greatest inspirations musically and why?

Gucci Mane and Lil Wayne; they basically taught me how to rap.

I'm an artist -- it's un-explainable -- besides saying it's real life occurrences that vary; from partying to dying.

Street name.

Have you encountered any problems in getting to this point in your career?

Hell, yeah, it's like growing up basically. Cause and Effect were my biggest teachers.
