Show Smiley in BBM Status Updates On Android [Emoticons]

While updating your status on Blackberry Messenger (BBM) you have the option of inserting a number of smiley(s) alongside. Performing this task on a Blackberry device is way straight forward, you just hit the Menu Button, select the 'Add Smiley' option and insert it wherever you please.

This feature is available on the Android platform too, but it's quite different on an Android device because you need to insert it manually while updating your status.
(-as at the time of this posting)

Either way, both methods will give the same result.

I gathered the symbols for a couple of smiley(s) one could use on BBM. To use any, copy the symbols below and paste it in a note app on your device so you could use it anytime you need it. You could as well memorize them if you can. Once you insert it manually, it automatically becomes a smiley.

You could quickly jump to whichever symbol you need if you know the name of the smiley by hitting CTRL + F on your keyboard to find it

Alas!

After BlackBerry stood anxious Android fan-boys/girls all over the world up on 21st September 2013 as promised, the much awaited instant messenger is now available for download.

Coupled with the fact that there was a premature release of a leaked BBM app online which was actually unofficial. BlackBerry decided to postpone the official rolling out of BBM™.

The leaked app was reported to have gotten a whoophing 1.1 million users in 8 hours - although it lead to some issues with BlackBerry's servers. Accordingly, the lauching was paused hitherto.

How to Download

Android™: Visit the Play Store to download from your Android powered device. At the moment, BBM is only available for Andriod devices running Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) and above.

iPhone® (iOS): Visit iTunes to download yours.

PS: Users in Africa might experience some difficulties in downloading theirs. Here's what BlackBerry has got to say about that:

As part of our partnership with Samsung Africa, BBM will first be available on Samsung Android devices in Africa between October 22nd and October 24th. BBm will become available on all Android and iPhone devices in Africa on October 25th.

How to Remove Tecno N3 Start-up and Turn-off Tones

In this post, I'll be showing you how you can remove the start-up and turn-off tones from the Tecno N3 Android Smartphone (In my own opinion, I consider it very annoying)

You'll need to have your phone rooted before you can do this because it requires a modification of your phone's Read Only Memory (ROM).
You can learn how to root your phone here.

You also need to have a working SUPERUSER app installed on your phone. Download Superuser here.

Finally, you will need to have installed Root Explorer to have access to your phone's ROM. Download Root Explorer here

Disclaimer: Removing start-up and turn-off tones is risky and requires extreme caution and so I will not be responsible for any damage that may be done to your device.

If you have all these requirements, then let's proceed.

STEP 1

Launch Root Explorer and accept when Superuser prompts for superuser permissions

STEP 2

Click on Mount R/W as shown here .

STEP 3

Go to 'system' folder and then to the 'media' folder. Proceed to the 'audio' folder where you will see two media files: power_on.ogg and power_off.ogg.

STEP 4

Move the two media files to your SD Card and you're done.
Without the media files in their default location, your phone will not play the start-up and turn-off tones.

The Tecno N3 runs Android OS 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), so I'm pretty sure this trick would also work on other
Android powered Tecno devices running Gingerbread.

BlackBerry Messenger launches on iOS; Android still waits

The wait is almost over!

Now available for iOS
According to series of tweets posted by the official Twitter handle for the BlackBerry Messenger (@BBM), it was stated that BBM is now available on the iOS platform for the folks in New Zealand, Malaysia, India and UAE.

Even though it was released prematurely as the case may be, BBM is now available on the iTunes store for download. Actually, It was meant to roll out on Android and iOS on the 21st & 22nd of September, 2013 respectively. (- as at the time this article was written)

Since 7:00am (ET) Android fan-boys/girls have been visiting BBM's web page in droves to download the instant messenger on their devices but haven't been able to. We deduced that BlackBerry is having a little down time with their servers, but the guys over there are working earnestly to fix that and put up the download links ASAP.

Beware of Fake BBM apps on the Play Store!
A couple of pseudo-bbm apps carrying fake logos and developers are already on the Google Play Store too. The guys at Android Central elaborated on that so you won't be mislead by those ersatz.

Today, I'll explaining how to root the Tecno N3. I'd like you to read every single detail of this article carefully.

PLEASE NOTE

Rooting your device isn't advisable by your phone's manufacturer because it violates the warranty. It might also breach the security of your phone and get it bricked.

What is Rooting?

''Rooting'' means getting Superuser privileges and permissions to your Android's software. It is more like hacking your device. When you get an Android device rooted, you would have the ability to modify your ROM (changing it to Read or Write), increase battery life, install custom ROMs, install custom theme, increase performance, etc. These are just some of the examples of what your can do after rooting your device. There are a whole lot of things you can do out there.

Now let's get to today's business!

STEP 1

You need to download Poot and Ministro II (.apk files)

Download Poot here => Link 1 Link 2
Download from Google play store

STEP 2

Install the apps to your PHONE MEMORY

STEP 3

Launch Poot. It will require you to download extra QT libraries for Ministro to run. The libraries are about 10MB.

After downloading the libraries, your device might reboot automatically. If it doesn't, restart your device.

STEP 4

Launch Poot (Two buttons will be displayed on your screen)

Click the first button which says "Press here to poot"

If the operation was successful, you'll get 3 buttons on your screen.

This means your device is now rooted.

STEP 5

Now, download Super User app from the Google play store. This app grants and manages super user rights for your device.

All the operations taken above have to be done on your phone's memory.

Airtel Nigeria Launches nanoSIM Card for IPhone 5 & Other Devices

While browsing through my timeline on twitter I bumped into a tweet that read

Airtel Nigeria now has nanoSIM and it is free.

I quickly vistited Airtel Nigeria's Facebook Page to confirm if it was true. For what it's worth, I had to write something to that effect.

A nanoSIM is two times smaller than the normal SIM Card (MiniSIM) we see around here. Over the years, SIM Cards have been made smaller so it can be use with modern device. SIM Cards are currently available in four variants. We have the full-size SIM (1FF), mini-SIM (2FF),micro-SIM (3FF) and nano-SIM (4FF).

Airtel Nigeria just announced that the Nano SIM is available for its iPhone 5 users. It has got the basic features of a normal SIM (mini-SIM (2FF) and they're giving it out for free. Yes, Free!! You read that correctly.

To get yours, just head over to any Airtel showroom or Customer service centre around you with your device.

How to Enable Facebook Chat on 2go messenger (Gateway)

A lot of people have kept on asking me this question of late: "How Do I Enable Facebook Chat on 2go Messenger?".
So, I decided to put up something on it. This post is straight forward and easy to understand.

How To

Login to facebook and goto Account Settings.
Change your Password to another.
Visit www.facebook.com/username and select your preferred username
It should look more like this ===>http://facebook.com/praizjosh
Login to 2go messenger on your device.
Select Settings.
Select Gateways, then select "Facebook Gateway".
Click "Activate" then, enter your Facebook login details (Username & Password).
Click Submit

All your online facebook friends should start appearing on your chat menu now.

The use of abbreviations is common trend on twitter. Considering the fact that the social network only allows you to type a maximum of 140 characters. I sometimes complain about this limitation because, I don't get to write out my tweets in full and this gets me pissed off.

This limitation (as i call it), lead to the abbreviating or shortening of words by it's users. Thereby, making it easier for them to communicate with each other. I found out that abbreviating words in my tweets helped me to pass a couple of sentences across during
my conversations. Not forgetting that abbreviations saves times and energy, I consider it an advantage to twitter users.

Having it in mind that the world in general goes through new changes everyday, new abbreviations are being introduced to twitter by the minute. I sometimes get confused trying to decipher the meaning of some abbreviations or a slang used on twitter. Literally speaking, "You Can't Know All."

I'm familiar with the common abbreviations like RT - Retweet, FF - Follow, S/O - Shout Out and the likes. But sincerely, I still can't seem to decipher some twitter slangs. While trying to satisfy my curiosity, I bumped into a twitter-like form of dictionary that explains the meanings of some the abbreviations and slang words used on twitter.

Select your preferred language, and location (change location to Nigeria if it hasn't been selected automatically)
Enter your mobile number e.g +234.01234456789 (a text message containing a signup link will be sent to you)
Check or mark the Terms of Service and Private Policy box (that's after you've read them or you could just ignore it and read it later.)
The link sent with the text message text message can only be used once and it would expire after ten minutes of arrival.
Open the link sent to you to begin the sign up process.
Select your preferred username and enter your details into the require field
Please note that your password must be at least 8 characters. Combine it with symbols & numbers to make it strong against hackers.
Click the Create My Account Button to complete your registration.

How to link 2go Messenger with Twitter | Tweet Easily

This post i'm sharing with you today explains how I connected my 2go account with my Twitter account. By doing this, I can view tweets on my timeline, send replies and also tweet without actually quitting the 2go app.

I've posted something similar to this current post previously, it was on How I Linked My Twitter Account with Facebook

Now to today's post, I hope you won't have any trouble undertaking this task. All you need do is follow these steps carefully and you'll see it's that easy;

=> Visit www.tweet.im on your browser.

=> Click the "Sign in with Twitter" Button.

You will be taken to Twitter's App Authentication page where you need to authorise the application

=> Enter your login details and select the "Authorise" Button.

You'll be redirected to a page where you need to select the preferred account to link. Select "Google Talk" and enter your email address into the required field.

=> Click "Register"

After doing the steps above, launch the 2go app on your mobile device;

=> Click Settings

=> Select "Gateways"> GTalk Gateway

=> Login with your Username & Password and click "Submit".

After that, Go to your Friend list to accept a request from GTalk and add as friend (e.g your gtalk username@tweet.im).

When all these is done you'll be able to perform your twitter activities easily without stress.

To Tweet, just type (chat) into @tweet.im on your friend list and send.

N.B: Only a Gmail address can be used for registration.

Send Free SMS from Your Gmail Account to Nigerian Numbers for Free

Sending SMS is one fast way of reaching out to people around us. And when it comes to free sending of SMS, I love it!

Gmail now offers this feature of sending free SMS from your Gmail account to your contacts.

To enable this option in your Gmail account, just follow these easy steps:

Login to your Gmail Account.
Enter the name of the contact you want to send the SMS into the "search, chat or invite friends" box in provided at the left sidebar.
Select the contact, click the more and Send SMS option respectively.
A dialog box will pop out asking you to fill some information

Select Nigeria as country and enter the recipients mobile number in the phone number field.
Click Save.

A Chat window will appear. Just type your message as you would normally. When you hit Enter, the message will be sent to the phone number you provided.

This option is currently enabled by a few network operators in Nigeria:

MTN
Glo
Airtel
Starcomms
Visafone

When the recipient receives the message, he's got the option to reply. If he replies, the message will appear as reply in chat.

NB: Google does not charge for using this service. However, mobile providers' standard charges will apply to any SMS messages sent from a mobile device to Google Chat

How to Edit Your 2go Account Details | Information | Profile

This post I'm sharing with you today is about my personal experience with 2go messenger.

After I signed up for 2go, I wasn't satisfied with the information I used to register. So, I sought for a way to edit my 2go account.

While researching, I found a shortcode which one could use as a medium to edit his/her account information.

To edit your 2go account details, Text the word UPDATE to 32120

This costs #30 if you're a user from Nigeria. I don't know about other countries yet.

After sending the SMS, you will receive a service message containing a link. The link takes you to a webpage where you can edit your account information.

You allowed to change only a limited section of your information.
Some of what you can change are as follow:

1) Full Name
2) Gender
3) Location
4) Birthday

NB: You may only edit your profile once and cannot edit it again in future.

Think about this carefully before you make a move.

BOLT Browser Exits the Mobile Internet World | How it Hurts

Bitstream Inc maker of the renowned mobile web browser "BOLT" has just made it known to its esteemed users that future usage of its free services will no longer be available due to what they call "economic circumstances"

The phrase "Economic Circumstances" which I fear to be as a result of lack of funds wasn't well explained by the BOLT Team

BOLT Browser which was officially released in January, 2009 is currently listed among the first top mobile browser for mobile devices. Using the company's mobile web browsing technology platform (ThunderHawk) it has successfully been running on major Smartphones and Java ME devices. I personally use it on my Nokia 5230 the way it renders web-pages in the Desktop view is just as if it were a computer. I remember when I was using the Bolt Lite on my Nokia 2600 classic.........(no other mobile browser has never been this great cos it was the best), I know quite a number of people that prefer the Bolt browser to any other browser, sometimes they make comments like:

How saddening..........what is going to be the fate of these people?

A large number of Java phones and BlackBerry users will miss the BOLT browser alot. It was also a top third-party alternative to the native BlackBerry browser. I guess bolt users will now have to sought for other alternatives maybe Opera Mini/Mobile, UC Browser, Skyfire, Digia @Web, Dolphin Browser, etc.

I hope that Bitstream will get back on their feet soon.

PS. Rumour has it that Bolt Browser took a sauna bath before finally taking a bow. You could as well go cool off in a sauna session while you reminisce about the depart browsing icon. 😀

Show Blog Post Title First Before Blog Title on Search Engines | Blogger

By default Blogger shows your blog's title before your post title on search engines. It has been proven that this isn't good for search engine optimization.

As a matter of fact if your blog's title comes before your post title in search results, anyone who's searching on a particular topic might not notice yours.

If you have a post on how to blog and run on the go, then someone searches the web on that topic, he'll get a lots of results but he might not notice yours easily because your blog's title comes before your post title.

E.g
BlogBlog Blogger: How to Blog and Run On The Go
  www.blogblogblogger.com
Your description here

Changing it the other way
round: Making your Post Title come before your Blog's Title

By doing this your would easily be seen by whoever is searching the web for related contents

   How to Blog and Run On The Go: BlogBlog Blogger:
  www.blogblogblogger.com
Your description here

Now to Business,

Follow The Following steps carefully:

1) Login to your blogger dashboard

2) Select Design then click Edit HTML.

3) Tick the box beside "Expand Widget Templates"

4) Search (Crtl+F) for this html tag:
<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
It can be found under the <Head> section in your HTML

Now here is the part where you decide with option you prefer

Showing Post Title first before Blog Title:

If you want make your blog post title come before your blog title in search engine results, Replace the below tag

  <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
with

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "index"'>
<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
<b:else/>
<title><data:blog.pageName/> ~ <data:blog.title/></title>
</b:if>

Showing Only Post Title:

To make only your blog post title show in search results, Replace the
<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title> tag with

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "index"'>
<title><data:blog.title/></title>
<b:else/>
<title><data:blog.pageName/></title>
</b:if>

How to Create & Edit a Stand-Alone Page on a Blogger Blog

To Create/Edit a Post Page follow this steps carefully.

Login to your Blogger Dashboard, select the blog you want edit, click "edit posts" You'll be taken to another page showing all your blog post.

Look under the second navbar and click "Edit Pages" then, select the "NEW PAGE" button and start entering the text in your new page..

NOTE: You can add up to 20 stand-alone pages such as an "About Me" page.

To edit the pages you created just follow the above steps again and select the page you want to edit.
