<g:plusone></g:plusone>
(Quicky-update, new screenshot. The Apps Status Dashboard recently changed, but is still at the same link.)

If you are the one responsible for administering your Google Apps domain, make sure you know about the Google Apps Status Dashboard:

http://goo.gl/Ls95u

It gives a one-stop-view to see what Google Apps are up (green=yah!) or down (red=boo). Click on any of the little status dots <strike>icons (wrench, check-mark, "i" button, red-x)</strike> to get more info about the current status of an issue.

At the bottom of the screen you can also subscribe to this page as an RSS feed. Very useful!

1. Log into the control panel and select the Advanced Tools tab

2. Navigate to near the end of the Advanced Options and add the From: and To: addresses and press the "Transfer Documents" button:

Because of current staff levels and the compressed time-frame for execution of the project, we hired a 3rd Party consultant to set up Single Sign On and LDAP Directory sync. This was also an extra cost.

I just talked a bit about participating in the Teacher's Summit last year and how interesting it was to hear directly from some of the Google product managers.

Getting Users used to the Cloud

The cloud is coming for our school email. We have around 1,200 Groupwise users, all staff have an email address. For me that means teachers, administrators, maintenance staff, supervisory staff, etc, quite a diverse group. We have had Groupwise for years and years and now are getting ready to move to our next step, Google Mail in the Google Apps for EDU.

My boss (Hank Thiele) and I attended a Google Teacher summit at the Googleplex earlier this year (he was a panelist) and one of my favorite parts was hearing the actual project managers from Google talk about the best practice for use of their products. One major takeaway regarding Google mail was the idea that folders (used heavily in our environment) was something to be replaced, more directly by using tags, but in the end, it might be even better to simply archive EVERYTHING that comes in, relying on the Google search features to find your communications. We'll see how that flies at District 207.

Securing at 1-to-1 student computer

What is the best way to secure a 1-to-1 student computer, one that will be used at home and also at school?

Looking now at Citrix

Google Apps Deployment Site

Google has just posted a new site for Deployment of Google Apps enterprise level.
