It’s been a great ten days of london design festival. For us it has been full of ideas and discussions, opinions and debates. Now it’s time to pack up and go home. until next time.

The Everyday Life Collector

My favourite exhibition from this year’s festival is The Everyday Life Collector, organised by Apartamento and Max Lamb. It’s a collection of pottery by Richard Lamb, Max’s father.

At first sight I didn’t really appreciated the collection as a whole but got into it once I had the chance to discuss a bit more with Max, about his father – in a more personal way than the introduction text let me grasp. I really enjoyed the story behind the first piece Richard had collected and this projected a whole new light on the collection presented.

I really enjoyed being told about why somehow someone would start to buy and then put purposeful objects in a trunk for a couple of years. As I listened to Max telling me about the Troika pieces, I began to understand why they had meant so much to his father and how they had changed his own perception of everyday things.

I also realised that more and more I was enjoying the objects as much as their context and the story behind them: the anecdotes from the designers and the people behind it. Maybe I even like those stories a bit more…

The Ten Collective at 100% Design

100% Design has opened yesterday and I had a good look around (still counting the blisters on my feet). A very nice little show within this big one is, as every year, the work of the TEN collective. This year they present TEN XYZ – an exploration of their varied perspectives on the complex issues of sustainability within design using digital manufacturing technologies… (more)

London Design Festival 09: Vorboten at the Dock

The young design studio Studio Hausen curated the group show Vorboten: 7 Studios from Berlin for The Dock venue of the London Design Festival and invited some of the most interesting design studios from the emerging German metropole.
