While not shying away from the variety and grittiness of the act of giving birth, the ad's creators have, for obvious reasons, kept the spot prime-time friendly. And that means delivering an onslaught of cuteness and life-affirming joy. There can be no faulting the selection of arrivals and slices of early life documented here—premature babies, long-awaited babies, healthy babies, special-needs babies, IVF, adoption, multilingual kids; they cover just about every possible base. The spot ends with a heartwarming line on screen: "Pampers believes every baby is a little miracle." Not a soul on the planet could argue with that. As a piece of brand building that plucks—nay, pounds—the heartstrings, this spot will go down as one of the greats. The only possible gripe is that all these babies would be just as miraculous if they were wearing Huggies instead of Pampers, or reusable cloth diapers, or indeed, nothing at all. New Dry Max Pampers Causing Rash, Burns, Sores, Boils?

Pampers new brand of Dry Max diapers causes rashes, burns, sores, and boils on their babies, some parents are alleging in a growing online backlash. But is it really Dry Max, or just typical diaper rash that the parents are incorrectly correlating with the new diaper?

One parent posts, "We were using Pampers diapers with the dry max and at 2 weeks old she developed a diaper rash that turned into horrible open sores."

Another, "my 2.5 year old experienced an inflamed reddness on his legs, bottom and genitals. I couldn't explain where it came from. I doused him with desitin for two days and it bled instead of clearing up. It didn't hit me til I read a post on facebook. Now I will switch him to another diaper."

And another, "I was in the store the other day and didnt pay any attention and picked up a box of Pampers just thinking they changed the packaging. My youngest will be 2 next week and has NEVER had a diaper rash. Night before last he woke up with a leaking diaper (no surprise, we go thru it every night) and when I went to change him, his bottom was blistered and bleeding."

To fix the rashes, parents say they have had success with using frequent rinsing, oatmeal baths, and Aveeno.

Reached for comment, P&G said:

At Pampers, nothing is more important to us than the health and well being of babies. That’s been our reason for being for over 40 years.

Whenever we make an improvement to our diaper - whether it was the introduction of adhesive tape followed by stretch many years ago up to the new Dry Max technology today - our overriding concern is that the product is safe. We have an entire division that is devoted to product safety, and we conducted extensive safety assessments including clinical tests before we introduced our new diaper.

Pampers with Dry Max is the most mom- and baby-tested diapers in our history. More than 20,000 babies from around the world involving more than 300,000 diaper changes were part of the development of Dry Max. This is one of Pampers’ most thoroughly researched and tested new products ever.

According to Dr. David Schonfeld, a member of the Pampers Parenting Network and Thelma and Jack Rubinstein Professor of Pediatrics, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, “I’ve reviewed the consumer and clinical data and feel comfortable that Pampers with Dry Max underwent rigorous safety testing and is a safe product. As a pediatrician, this is exactly the kind of testing I would hope to see in a diaper. Diaper rashes are usually caused by irritation from feces and urine - it’s called a diaper rash because it appears in the area that diapers are worn. Although a good diaper helps to protect the baby’s sensitive skin, some diaper rashes are still going to occur no matter how good the diaper is. The testing that Pampers conducted before the diapers were sold and the monitoring of complaints since it has been on the market do not show any evidence that Dry Max causes more diaper rashes than the product it replaced.”

Diaper rash is one of the most common ailments affecting babies and toddlers with many causes and symptoms of varying severity. In general, a healthy baby is expected to get a diaper rash roughly 3-4 times a year with some percent deemed severe - meaning the rash is deep red, with possible blisters and/or breaks in the skin. Some of these rashes can have appearance characteristics typically associated with burns. When you consider that there are about 10,000,000 babies in diapers in the US alone combined with the frequency of the rash, it makes sense that as hundreds of thousands of parents switch to Dry Max diapers, some many have children that coincidentally develop diaper rashes at the same time.

As background, our Dry Max diaper uses the same type of ingredients as our other diaper and in fact, many other disposable diapers on the market. The improvement is in the design and manufacture of the diaper, which allowed us to create a diaper that is 20% thinner than before and is our driest diaper ever as it helps lock in wetness.

For giving Anton 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep, I give it 5 stars. Lately, Anton's been soaking up his nappies, and sometimes we have to change 3 times during the night, because whenever his nappy got full, Anton always wakes up crying. And also we sometimes had a problem with leakages because he'd really be soaked. I suspect the discomfort always triggered nightmares in my poor baby. The problem all started when Pampers stopped selling All-Nights and replaced it with overpriced Pampers Active, which got super-soaked even sooner than the economy-priced Pampers Comfort. So we switched to Huggies Dry Comfort for nighttime. But with the amount of weewee Anton makes during the night, it's not enough. So we were forced to switch to Mamy Poko. At Php 16.00 a nappy (ka-ching-ka-ching, parang yung EQ ad), it's pricey but it's well worth the fitful sleep Anton gets. It has "Extra Speedy Absorbency to provide dryness till the next morning" because of its "Maxi Absorb Core" that incredibly makes the diaper feel dry to the touch even if it's already soaked. What's more, it has "Real Breathable Cover and Waistband" so you don't have to worry about diaper rashes. Studies say that there's a high incidence of ADHD among kids who had trouble sleeping while they were babies. For two nights now, Anton's been sleeping like the baby he truly is. And even better, I get to sleep more, too. =)

Huggies vs. Pampers Baby Diapers

I have no idea about diapers (even those of the said brands) in other places/countries and this post is safer assumed to be applicable only in the Philippines.

Being the two longest mainstream baby diaper brands in the local market, Huggies and Pampers have always been debated on. I believe I was a Pampers baby. Basically everyone back in the days were. It seemed to be the only brand of baby diapers. But with F and K, we’ve tried Prokids Newborn, Pampers Newborn, and Huggies Newborn which are all available in the country and can be bought from leading supermarkets and… we have chosen this

Huggies over Pampers

Of the three that we have already tried, Huggies is the most expensive. A pack of 24 Newborn-size diapers of Prokids is worth around PhP 185.oo. The same pieces and size of Pampers is worth PhP 200 while Huggies Newborn 24-pieces is priced at PhP 202.50 (prices based on SM Supermarkets as of 2011). However, Prokids is relatively harder to find in stores. Pampers and Huggies are more often seen on the shelves. The winning factor of Huggies is one of the most crucial criterion in choosing disposable diapers – absorption. Pampers (at least the ones distributed here in the Philippines) scores very badly at this! Pampers diapers are so thin! You’re better off with cloth diapers since you’d have to change it after 1 baby pee anyway. I’m actually very disappointed. They seem to be one of the cheaper baby diapers (as compared to Huggies and Mamy Poko) in line with other famous brands like Prokids and EQ Diapers but they cheat consumers off with the quality. Good thing I only bought 3 packs of Pampers just so we can try it out. We are definitely going back to and sticking to Huggies.

Again why Huggies wins over Pampers: It absorbs much better, it doesn’t leak that easily, it’s relatively not that expensive (Come on, a 2-peso difference), it’s available in most supermarkets, and the tape doesn’t fall off easily so it keeps its snug fit even if the baby moves a lot.

While other moms/consumers prefer Pampers, Drypers, Prokids, EQ, Mamy Poko (not in our budget, sorry), or other diapers for reasons of their own, ask me and no doubt I’ll recommend Huggies. Then again, things might change as the twins become older and we change diaper sizes.

Mamy Poko I think would be the most high end brand in the baby diaper market category in terms of display in the local retail supermarket setting. Over the years, I ‘ve used and tried probably every diaper brand in the market that I could think of without much success. I ended up with Mamy Poko since it was the only brand left that my kids weren’t allergic to and that the diaper didn’t tend to bunch up or tear up when full.

Mamy Poko also has the distinction of being a brand with limited distribution and low customer service levels. So, I tend to hoard Mamy Poko every time I can.

My favorite haunts Unimart and Cherry don’t really carry it. Mercury doesn’t carry it as well. I’m left with Makro and Puregold as my places to go to.

It is interesting to note that Makro’s pricing for this product is so horrendously expensive compared to that of Puregold. We even made the mistake of buying 4 packs which Makro absolutely refused to allow exchage for. They said the product wasn’t damaged so why return it. So much for customer service, I’m not buying my diapers there anymore.

It’s Baby Week at the Happy Home Fairy!

Why Baby Week?

Well, I don’t know about you, but it seems that every single one of my friends is having a baby or getting pregnant these days, so babies are kind of on my mind!

I thought I’d put together a week’s full of posts celebrating all things baby! From baby shower ideas to parenting book suggestions to must-have baby items, you will find it here!

To kick things off, I am sharing my top favorite games to play at Baby Showers – and no, I am not going to encourage you to eat mashed up chocolate bars out of diapers!

1. What’s In the Bag? – Gather up some lunch bags and place small baby items in them. Number the bags and secure them closed. Have guests feel the bags and write down what baby item they think is in the bag. The person that guesses the most right is the winner! Give all of the items to the Mom-to-Be at the end of the shower! Here is a list of ten items I put in bags for a recent shower I hosted.

2. Play Dough Babies – This game is HILARIOUS! Purchase several small containers of brightly colored play dough. Hand out to guests and have them sculpt their best version of a baby. The Mom-to-Be gets to choose her favorite baby as the winner!

3. My Water Broke – Stick some ~~creepy~~ plastic babies (you can find them at Party City!) in an ice cube tray, fill with water and then freeze. Guests receive cups upon their arrival with a frozen baby ice cube. The first person whose ice melts must shout, “My water broke!” and gets a special prize. Variations of this could be having one frozen baby ice cube and have guests predict what time the baby will be born, or how long the mother’s labor will be. Whoever is closest to the time the ice cube melts is the winner! Just make sure someone keeps an eye on the baby!

4. Pass the Present – I love this fun poem that you can do at the end of a shower to see who gets the final gift giveaway or centerpiece.

2. If someone wears a dress of blue, she must take this gift from you. If blue cannot be seen, it goes to the one wearing green.

5. Diaper Pins – They take a certain bit of time to make, but aren’t they cute?? I’ve done this for several showers that I have hosted! Simply fold white felt squares into a diaper shape and secure with a safety pin. I used pink or blue puffy paint to add a little bow. I also like to thread a piece of pink or blue yarn through the diaper so that it makes a little necklace for the guest to wear throughout the party. No one knows until the end when they are all opened together that one of the diapers has a mini chocolate chip in it and whoever has the poopy diaper is the winner!

I am throwing a ‘Sprinkle’ for one of my friends in June and I will definitely be using one of these ideas!

It looks as though David Beckham has got baby fever on the brain ever since he announced his missus, Victoria Beckham, was pregnant with their fourth baby – but now he’s turning his attention to baby grows.

Thanks to his A-list pal Snoop Dogg – and soon-to-be godfather of his baby girl – the pair are set to launch their own range of kid’s clothes after they reunite in the UK in July this year.

And apparently Snoop has already sketched out some fly designs in preparation for the massive design collaboration, reports the Mirror.

The pair became best buddies back in 2008 when Becks appeared in Snoop’s E! show Fatherhood – but it looks as though the LA Galaxy star has the Dogg to thank for his latest baby joy news…

“I said that after their 11th anniversary they should have some more kids and romance to some Snoop tunes,” explains the rapper. “Now he’s having a beautiful girl to play with my daughter Chocolate.”
