Franchise Sues Burger King Over $1 Double Cheeseburger, Claims It Costs $1.10 To Make

South Bend, IN (AHN) – A South Bend franchise of Burger King sued the company on Friday for introducing a $1 double cheeseburger that caused it to lose 10 cents for each burger sold.

Dan Fitzpatrick’s lawsuit said it cost him $1.10 to produce a double cheeseburger and the lower price of the mother company’s burger caused his franchises to lose money. Fitzpatrick runs 115 Burger King outlets..

Fitzpatrick claimed Burger King franchisees rejected the $1 double cheeseburger twice but the company pushed through with it. He cited the franchise agreement as prohibiting the corporation from setting the price.

The burger company considers the lawsuit without merit.

A retiree in Florida is reporting a Loch Ness style creature in a local canal- at first thought by the man to be a snake before he says he spotted a caudal fin.

Pictures of the creature are, as always, from a large distance and it’s almost difficult to spot the water, much less a water dwelling creature. But Russ Sittloh insists the creature is huge and potentially dangerous- and he’s concerned for small children and kayakers in the vicinity. (Pythons are a known invasive species in the South, and in July a toddler in Florida was strangled to death by a household pet python. )

Sittloh says when he last saw the beast, it did a double roll and came back toward Sittloh with a “mouthful of fish.” Whether the creature Sittloh is capturing on film is a python is up for some debate:

“I don’t know if we have a mutated species here or what,” Sittloh said. “Whatever he is, my God, is he big. He is some kind of big.”

Sittloh said he has warned his neighbors and called the city, but did not report the creature to the Sheriff’s Office.

“From the video, it appears most likely it is a manatee,” said Carli Segelson, media relations coordinator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Marianne Pasha said no one else in Madeira Beach has reported seeing Nessie.

“It sounds like there is something out there, but we don’t know what it is,” she said.

Sittloh has invested nearly $400 in equipment to record the elusive creature, so perhaps better pictures will surface soon. The pic above was captured on November 8th, and allegedly shows the animal frolicking in Sittloh’s Madeira Beach canal,

Man Says Jesus To Blame For Drug Accessories

Louisville, KY (AHN) – A Kentucky man on house arrest told police Jesus set him up, leaving a burnt teaspoon in his home.

Louisville police were performing a home check on Craig A. Dunn when they found burnt tube of aluminum foil burnt on one end and a spoon with burn marks and possible drug residue, WLKY-TV reported.

When police asked Dunn about the items, he said they weren’t his-and told police that the spoon and foil belonged to Jesus, who he maintains is trying to set him up.

Police were checking on Dunn because he is under home incarceration because of a parole violation. He faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

No word from on high regarding the claims against Jesus.

Texas woman Trista Joy Lathern, 24, fakes cancer to get breast implants

Generous Texans are feeling duped and angry after it came to light that a woman who solicited over $10K in donations to treat her breast cancer used the funds to upgrade her healthy breasts.

Trista Joy Lathern, 24, shaved her head to further the scam, but investigators say she never suffered from cancer in the first place. At least two-dozen individuals and businesses donated money or merchandise to Lathern’s scam, which came to light when Lathern’s surgeon expressed concern that her $6800 breast augmentation surgery had been paid for in stolen funds. Police explained the possible motives behind Lathern’s behavior:

“Trista said she and her husband had been (having) marital problems and she thought telling him she had cancer would bring them closer together,” the affidavit said. It goes on,”Trista confesses that she gave $3,500 to a local plastic surgeon for an augmentation and later had a bilateral breast augmentation performed in Austin, Texas, costing approximately $6,800.”

Charity events for Lathern snared four bands, a raffle, a silent auction and a bake sale. Trista Lathern is charged with “theft by deception over $1,500, but under $20,000.”

MI Walmart security guard forced into car, peed on by alleged shoplifters

How many times have you wanted to pee on those horrible people that expect you to queue to leave Walmart after dropping $200 on pet food and socks because they want to make sure you’re not shoplifting spatulas?

On Halloween night, a Walmart security guard learned the hard way why retail security guards are asked to not aggressively pursue shoplifters, even ones who seem clearly guilty. An incident reported to police by the unnamed guard just before 7:45pm involving $45 of merchandise saw the Walmart guard being headbutted into the accused’s car, sat and urinated on before being driven away with the suspects.

Police say the incident escalated when the women accused of the theft, Marilyn Cole, 35, and Rashieka L. Stewart, 23, broke away after being detained for suspected shoplifting of items including curtains and makeup. The guard ran after the women and attempted to block Cole from entering her vehicle. It was then that the women are alleged to have attacked the guard, who was later released to police before the women were forced out of the vehicle at gunpoint.

Cole was on parole for bank robbery at the time of the incident, and her bail was set at $35K. Stewart’s bail was ordered at $15K. Both women were charged with unarmed robbery, and Cole was also charged with interfering with a police report.

Study Cites Side Effect of Vaginal Cosmetic Surgery

London, England (AHN) – More British women are undergoing surgery to make their vagina look better but doctors say this may impair sexual sensitivity and satisfaction, according to researchers.

In a study by gynecologist Sarah Creighton and psychologist Lih-Mei Liao of the University College London, they noted that cutting off the protruding lips of the vagina or labia lessen sexually sensitive tissues or nerves.

Creighton also said in the study, published in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, that women who undergo labioplasty may experience painful childbirth like those who undergo genital mutilation. She recommended rigorous evaluation of labioplasty.

Meanwhile, plastic surgeons dispute the study. Douglas McGeorge, past president of the the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said labioplasty is a minor operation with few possible complications. McGeorge said the procedure is just about removing a bit of loose flesh to make a good-looking labia with less scarring.

Cosmetic surgeon Angelica Kavouni said only poorly performed surgery may result in side effects mentioned by the study.

Wipeout Death: Tom Sparks Dies Following Wipeout Appearance

Tom Sparks will go down as the first contestant to die following their appearance on Wipeout, after he had a stroke while competing and did exactly that.

33 year old Tom Sparks was rushed to hospital after complaining of knee pain and shortness of breath while competing on an obstacle course. Doctors at the local hospital recognized that all was not well, and transferred him to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where multiple brain surgeries failed to save his life.

According to reports, Tom Sparks was found to be suffering from an undiagnosed case of antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, a disease that can cause blood clots (and by extension stroke and heart attacks) that ultimately contributed to his death.

To make a sad story even worse, Tom had only married two months ago and was competing on the show with his wife.

Bush pilot’s plane mauled by grizzly – repaired with duck tape

There are two lessons that can be learned from the un-named Alaskan bush pilot who had his plane mauled by an irritated grizzly bear.

The first lesson is that it is a wise idea to clean your plane after using it to haul your fishing catch after landing at your camp. If you don’t you may just find it becoming an attraction to a passing grizzly bear who can’t pass up what he thinks might be a free meal – if he can just get at it.

The second lesson is that duct tape truly can fix just about anything even a grizzly ravage bush plane.

After finding his plane had been treated like a scratching post by a hungry grizzly looking for the fish it smelled from inside he radioed for some supplies. His shopping list included two new tires to replace the one’s destroyed by the bear. Along with that he asked for three cases of duct tape and a couple rolls of cellophane tape.

As you can see from the picture the once mauled bush plane was literally patched back together with duct tape and air worthy enough to get the pilot back to civilization.

A Milwaukee Army Reservist got a pleasant surprise during a mugging, when the four men who accosted him had a change of heart.

The men singled out the 21-year-old University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student as he was walking home at around 1:15 am on Tuesday. The student, whose identity has not been released, said the four men dragged him into an alley and forced him to lay facedown with a gun to his neck. The men then emptied the young man’s pockets, swiping a wallet, his keys, a cell phone, $16 and oddly, a PowerBar wrapper.

The thieves then rifled through the man’s belongings, and discovered an Army Reservist card. One of the men, who the victim described as the “leader,” decided to return the items. The burglar in charge repeatedly apologized, thanking the young man for his service and reiterating his “respect” for the victim. As the men left the scene, one reportedly returned to give the victim a “fist bump.” The reservist doesn’t wish to be named in the media because he later realized the robbers still have his keys.

Police say the man’s story is not only credible, but that two other men were approached in a short period of time in the same area, presumably by the same four muggers. One other mugging attempt was unsuccessful, with the victim running away screaming. The other involved a convicted burglar with a Department of Corrections ID in his wallet, and inspired no sympathy on behalf of the muggers.

Head on over to Google right now and type in “Why Won’t” and you’ll quickly realize an odd top search suggestion of “why wont my parakeet eat my diarrhea” one of the most popular search options found on Google at the moment I’m writing this article.

The fail comes from none other than the ultra popular site FailBlog and it’s reached “Volcanic” proportions on various trending websites across the web as users search for more information from the sites post.

While I’m sure the Parakeet search will fall off the map and be replaced by some new search term by tomorrow, it was still worth a good laugh today.

Art comes in all shapes and forms. However the idea that one would use bread dough as the basis for face-like loaves of bread to sell in the family bakery isn’t probably one of the forms most people would think of.

That apparently hasn’t stopped artis Kittiwat Unarrom who in order to attract more business for his father’s bakery in Ratchaburi Thailand put his artistic skills to an interesting use. Putting together materials like bread dough, cashews, raisins and other items you might find in a bakery Unarrom creates realitically looking heads and other body parts.

These are then wrapped in either plastic and placed on the shelves in the store or hung from meat hooks.

Sophia Hartdegen, the drunk woman who miraculously survived falling in front of a train in Boston has spoken out about her ordeal.

Hartdegen, a 26 year old Research Coordinator at Partners HealthCare and graduate of Simmons College, made headlines world wide when security footage showed her falling onto the tracks as a train approached. Other passengers on the platform managed to get the train to stop just as it was about to run over her.

“I cannot express how grateful I am to all the wonderful people on the platform who waved down the train and also to the train operator for acting so quickly” Sophia said in a statement.

“I am amazed so many people stepped up to help someone in trouble. The story isn’t about me. The story is about the train operator and the people on the platform and I want to express my thanks again to those people.”

“I am still a bit in shock, but the kindness and quick thinking of all of those people who came together to save my life will forever have my thanks and gratitude. I wish I could thank them each individually.”

“I hope they know how sincerely glad I am that they were there, and that they were brave enough to do what they did.”

She also told a local TV station that she was traumatized by her experience and afraid to go out in public because she was humiliated.

Bottle of Beer from Burned Hindenburg Zeppelin, the Most Expensive at $8,337

London, U.K. (AHN) – A bottle of beer found at the wreck of the burned Hindenburg in 1937 is up for auction in Britain and is expected to fetch for £5,000 or $8,337.

The undrinkable Lowenbrau lager was one of six unopened beer found by fireman Leroy Smith at the landing site of the German airship in Lakehurst airfield in New Jersey on May 6, 1937. Coming from Frankfurt, the Hindenburg burst into flames upon landing killing 38 people.

Smith buried the bottles on site because the police cordoned off the area to investigate the cause of the fiery accident. He later dug up the mementos giving five of the beers to his colleagues and keeping one for himself including the silver-plated jug.

Smith’s family kept the beer bottle and jug until they decided to sell it. The auction will be on Saturday.

Deputies in Florida Home Invasion Find Deer is Culprit

East Lake, FL (AHN) – Sheriff deputies investigating a suspected home invasion were surprised to find a 190-pound deer loose in the house.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies found blood on the kitchen floor and heard banging noises coming from the bedroom when they entered the East Lake home about 1 p.m. on Saturday, the St. Petersburg Times reported.

After being discovered, the deer shot out of the bedroom and ran around the house. The deputies guided the deer out of the open garage door, and the animal took off into the Brooker Creek Preserve.

The homeowners are out of state, but neighbors pitched in and boarded up a smashed window and secured the house.

Deputies noted only a small cut on one of the deer’s hind legs as it ran back into the wild, giving up a short stint of domesticity.

Video: Drunk woman falls onto Boston subway tracks

Spoiler alert: she survives.

In the clip, a 27-year-old unnamed woman is shown perilously weaving about on a Boston subway platform before falling onto the tracks. As she stumbles around on the track, hugging the rail and unable or unwilling to reach the horrified bystanders trying to frantically alert the conductor and reach out to assist her, the train rapidly approaches. Police say that the woman, who was treated for “scrapes,” had been drinking heavily for a long period of time.

Luckily for the woman, the conductor manages to grind the speeding train to a halt just short of where she stood on the track. The train operator, 27-year-old Charice Lewis, describes the experience:

“The people were waving, but they were waving too much, and they were really, really close to the yellow line, which you are not supposed to be. It was telling me, ‘Slow your train down. Slow your train down.

“As I was approaching, the lady pops her head up, and I was like, ‘Oh my God. Someone is in the pit.’ I threw it into emergency, exactly what I am supposed to do, and it stopped just in time not to hurt her.

“After the fact, she came up with a big smile on her face.”
