Do you know that these two subjects are very much connected or related to each other? Geography makes history and vice versa. But many people are a little confuse about the exact reason about this. Actually, geography has a greater impact to history than history to geography. So, by magnifying how this could happen, it will not be difficult to understand both things. Geography and World History

Geography is about the physical features of the earth. It is vast in nature. First the earth is sphere in shape and that it revolves around the sun. That movement caused different seasons of countries. Second are the physical features of the earth. The plains, sea, mountains, hills, valley, rivers, falls, lakes, trench, islands, gulf, isthmus, etc. are just like in one group. Then the climate and seasons enter again. Climate and season can be related to each other; however there’s difference between them. Seasons are caused when the earth is moving through its axis to revolve around the sun. While the earth is rotating, some parts of it are not directly hit by the rays of the sunlight especially those countries which are near in the north and South Pole. But those countries which are in the equator or near to it, they receive most of the sunlight throughout the year. And that’s why they are called tropical countries.

So, the SEASONS and the PHYSICAL FEATURES of the earth are the main factors that affect the entire story of the human race (history) in terms of geography.

Basically, the physical features and the season can unknowingly affect the way people will live in a particular place. How? One best example is through the AVAILABILITY of RESOURCES.

If a country has a lot of resources, then people are expected to live in abundance. However, that notion is not true for always. People can view things differently due to several factors. Now climate could be one of those factors. A cold and a hot climate might have different effects to human beings. Thus, different thinking, culture and way of life can happen.

But in short, the environment, features in the environment, natural resources and the climate can mold human beings into different kinds of thinking, culture, way of life, emotions, dreams, outlook, behavior, etc.

That’s the main answer of the question why geography affects history.

Now to magnify that, here are some questions that would tickle your mind.

1.Have you observed that most of the THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES are located in the TROPICAL COUNTRIES?

Have you observed that these countries were almost COLONIES before of the Western Countries?

I Is there any geographical explanation why these countries situated mostly in the equator have almost the same fate economically and historically?

It is notable that tropical countries are rich in natural resources. Most foreign people think that tropical countries are like paradise with all the sunshine throughout the year. But why these countries are having difficulties economically?

Actually, there is a kind of Tropical Geography. It was already noted even during colonization times that people from the tropical countries were primitive and a little late in terms of development or progress. Thus, they were colonized easily by the European colonizers. So, this scenario is contradictory to the beautiful climate of these countries that brings rich resources.

So, how Geography will be connected to this issue? The following could be the answers:

1. People from these countries were probably enjoying the beauty and the abundance of their countries. They tend to be more relaxed and calm because they’ve got nice climate with good resources. They did not find different ways on how to make life better because they felt complete.

2. But the western coming from countries with four seasons, they felt the need to prepare for the fall and winter seasons. They were having fears to run out of food, safe shelter and other things during the winter time.

3. So, they explored, experimented and discovered a lot of things to survive and to have a better way of life. They tend to become more active by working very hard to prepare for the bad times.

So, it could be analyzed that those countries that were having limited resources were triggered to work harder and discover more things. Thus, there was progress. Being prepared really matters but they became prepared because it was a necessity.

Here’s an example, Scandinavian countries are very rich. However, if you will evaluate, their location is colder and there’s no enough sunshine. Some of these countries, the sun is always setting down and sometimes it’s not showing at all.

Conclusion: why Geography Affects History

The location (Geography) where people live has a huge impact towards the growth and the prosperity of a certain race. This might not be the only factor for prosperity, but its influence is very strong. After all, it’s all about SURVIVAL. Human beings behave differently to their environment but the common denominator is always about survival.

So now, FEAR can make people strong. The fear of having a difficult life due to poor environment, limited resources, bad climate and other factors can push people to think more creatively and critically just to survive.

Thus, the story of HISTORY becomes more dramatic, bloody, funny, scary and violent because men from different parts of the globe interact differently to each other because all of them are having different experiences from where they live in.

The technological discoveries and innovations of the 17^th-18th centuries have a great impact of today’s modern lifestyle. During those times, a great transition occurred that resulted into a better transformation of different civilizations in the entire world. At first, it started in England until it penetrated in most European countries and later it reached in America. Industrial Revolution, that’s the name of that period. During that time, there’s a list of inventions that really played vital roles for the improvement of the society. Thus, that particular time became a very significant turning point of some other great events in history.

Different tools, machines, other forms of technologies and discoveries were the highlights during that time. They made production faster and easier; thus the old society which was patterned into an agricultural economy have changed drastically. As a result, the economy of Europe and the America boomed as the beauty of CAPITALISM was unveiled.

1. Steam Engine

This is a kind of a heat engine (powered by water and coal) that makes a machine works in its own. The first successful steam engine was created by James Watt during the 1700’s. After that, manual labors were minimized as machines replaced the bare hands of the people. So things were done easier and faster in factories, mines, mills, railroads, ships, and vehicles.

2. Cotton Gin

This is a machine that can separate the cotton from its seed. This machine invented and patented by Eli Whitney became very useful in the cotton industry of the 1700s. Cotton can be used in making different products especially for clothing. Thus, during that time many businessmen and entrepreneurs in North and South America took advantage with this technology. And America became the cotton powerhouse that supported the world market next to Great Britain. On the other, it created a negative impact in slavery. Many black Africans were transported and sold to Europeans businessmen in America in order to maintain vast plantations of cotton. It even ended in a bloody American Civil Wars.

3. Telephone

Telephone came up when Graham Belle wanted to improve the Telegraph in 1870. If telegraph was using Morse code to send messages, Belle used his own musical approach which was using notes, pitch, wire, and electrical signals. And successfully, he made it in 1876 while telegraph was starting to vanish.

4. Incandescent Light Bulb

Perhaps this is the most famous invention made by Thomas Edison. This was a made by doing a lot of trial and error. However, this man also made other significant inventions just like the electrical power. And all these made more advancements and productivity in different fields of societies.

5. Sewing Machine

This machine was made in 1790 by Thomas Saint. Thus, clothing production increased compare to using manual labors during that time. So, many companies and factories were very happy and satisfied as their earnings and profits increased. Then this simple sewing machine was innovated over time with different features like the safety devices to prevent accidents.

All these things were just some of the leading tools and discoveries during the innovation process of the 17-8^th centuries. And all those inventors are worthy of appreciation as they have changed the world as well as its history. Though their inventions created different impacts towards the lives of men, but after all, they made a big difference. What to Avoid During Pregnancy in Medieval Times

A lot of medical practices that we observe now can be traced back to the past. We are fortunate that we have access to modern medicine and pregnant women get the care they need without the risk of infection, worse death. The middle ages is known as the Renaissance, where artists, philosophers and doctors have cooked up many ways to make living easier. Some of it may seem mad but believe it or not, people actually observed it. Here is a list of what to avoid during pregnancy.

Michele Savonarola, court physician of the powerful Este family of Ferrara in Italy wrote a book called De Regime Pregnantium. It contained advice of food and drinks that should and should not be taken during pregnancy. Like physicians today, Savonarola believed that what the mother eats will greatly affect her unborn child. He not only dedicated his life and expertise in taking care of the pregnant noblewomen of Ferrara but he also thought of medical ways to ensure the health of both mother and child, most especially in making sure that the baby would be male.

Savonarola advised that mothers consume dry food. He further stated that it was best to avoid drinking cold water because it is not good for the fetus and would generate girls. Instead he advised that moms drink red wine instead. Furthermore, consumption of warm and dry food will remove the inferior qualities of women and shape the fetus to become a strong and healthy male.

There could be strong intellectual women at that time who rolled their eyes at him; but in a world dominated by men, their opinions hardly matter. Members of the nobility would rejoice in the coming of a son but not so much as daughters.

He also advised mothers not to overindulge in the same kind of food because it risks miscarriage. Fruits like the pomegranate, though sweet is not advisable because it is highly acidic which can upset the stomach. It would be better to mix it with wine or drink is as a juice.

That was the practice in Italy, but what about other places? What to avoid during pregnancy when you’re a noble woman in England during the middle ages? In the late stages of pregnancy, noble women would go into confinement. This is like going back inside the womb where women are shut in a room, shutters closed, drapes drawn and a crucifix so she can pray. She is attended by servants and only female members of her family. Although, there were times that her husband may come visit her. The idea of a confinement is to make sure that the woman is relaxed. She will only come out after 40 days of giving birth. She will then be “churched” to cleanse her. There is a big party to welcome her back to society, perform her duties as wife and back to breeding babies again.

These practices and medical advice may all seem mad to us modern people but this paved the way to what we practice today. Crazy as it may seem, some of these food, drinks and practices make sense. Among the travelers of the ancient Silk Road, Marco Polo is the most significant. This man

belongs to a merchant family in Venice, France. Because of trading, his father and uncle reached China and shared a lot of stories to the young Marco Polo. Thus, with all his curiosity, Marco Polo traveled the Silk Road to reach China. During that time, Kublai Khan was the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty. And because of the wit of Marco Polo, he became an official in the high courts of China. He then quickly learned to speak Chinese and Mongolian. Actually, he liked the customs and the traditions in China. He was very observant to everything that happened in there. Thus, his service reached for seventeen years. The Vietnam War is one of the longest wars of the 20^th century and caused the humiliating defeat of the United States Army. Much of the fighting took place in Vietnam but neighboring countries like Laos and Cambodia got caught in the wave of the onslaught. So when was the Vietnam War?

The Vietnam War began on November 1, 1955 and ended on April 30, 1979. It lasted for nineteen and a half years. To understand when the Vietnam War started, it is important to understand who the players were. Ho Chi Minh of the Communist North Vietnamese forces fought against the anti-communist coalition of the Republic of Vietnam from South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh allied with the Viet Cong, the People’s Republic of China and the Soviet Union. These are countries that supported and implemented communism in their own countries. On the other side, the anti-communist Republic of South Vietnam joined forces with the United States, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand and Laos.

At that time, communism was very a very attractive idea to developing countries in Asia. The aftermath of World War II caused severe damage to infrastructure and economy, moral among people were also at an all-time low. So the idea of sharing equal opportunities and resources seemed very appealing. However, those in power and the upper classes get the lion’s share of everything, leaving those in the lower classes with scraps. The United States entered the war because they want to contain communism. They sent American troops to aid the cause of the anti-communism faction, but it resulted to their humiliating defeat.

The Broadway musical Miss Saigon was set in the time of the Vietnam War when American troops were being pulled out. That happened after a disastrous and bloody encounter happened between the American troops and the Viet Cong. When was the Vietnam War’s tragic episode? It happened on December 6, 1967 when American soldier followed two members of the Viet Cong to a heavily dense forest. Apparently, it was a trap. The American troops were open fired upon by the enemy hidden in among the trees. Claymores exploded, killing many and mortally wounding others. The American soldiers help their ground and fought back with bravery and courage. Some medics who were trying to drag the wounded out of range got killed. By March 1973, the United States and other foreign troops were pulled out from Vietnam.

The Vietnam War caused a lot of deaths, with 300,000 soldiers and 3,000,000 civilians from South Vietnam killed. In Cambodia, 200,000 were recorded dead and 30,000 in Laos. From among the American troops 58, 220 were declared dead, 5,099 from South Korea, 1,351 from Thailand, 521 soldiers from Australia, 37 from New Zealand. On the North Vietnamese side and their allies, 1,100,000 soldiers and 2,000,000 civilians were recorded as dead. From the People’s Republic of China an estimated 1,446 died and 16 from the Soviet Union.

When was the Vietnam War officially over? Record dates the end of the war on April 30, 1975 when the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, fell. Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh city, after the leader of the North Vietnamese faction. In the business of war, no one ends up being a winner. We could consider ourselves lucky that we weren’t there when these tragic events happened.

The Love of Antony and Cleopatra

Apart from Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers whose young love was cut short because of tragedy. Another love tandem, whose story in history was the inspiration of William Shakespeare, is the tragic couple Mark Antony and Cleopatra. Two people who were players in the dangerous game of politics.

Cleopatra was known as a very seductive, intelligent woman and proficient in nine languages. She used her feminine wiles to attract Julius Ceasar and keep him wrapped around her slender fingers. Stories of her first meeting with the great Roman general to cement an alliance caught the romantic fancies of people around the world. According to Plutarch, she was hidden in a Persian carpet and was unrolled to reveal herself to Ceasar. The latter was smitten by her charms and they became lovers. It’s also interesting to note that perhaps apart from her charms, Ceasar find her so enchanting because she was also a direct descendant of Alexander the Great. Their affair produced a son whom they named Ceasarion. Their love affair lasted until Ceasar’s assassination.

Anthony and Cleopatra

Mark Antony was one of the allies of Julius Ceasar. He came from a powerful political Roman family and he joined the military where he rose to the ranks because of the influence of his close relations to Ceasar being his mother’s cousin. When Julius Ceasar was assassinated, Antony, along with the triumvirate which included Octavianand Lepidus ruled Rome. In 41 BC, Antony summoned Cleopatra to ensure her loyalty to Rome. However, Cleopatra was a very proud woman and as a queen in her own right she was clearly trying to send a message to Antony that she was not in his beck and call like a common peasant woman. But finally the fateful meeting happened. Cleopatra, in her usual flair for the dramatics sailed up in the River Cydnus in a luxurious barge. Antony fell under her spell.

Antony and Cleopatra got married in the Egyptian tradition in 36 AD. Their relationship earned the disgust of many Romans, apart from the fact that Antony was already married. Their union produced twins and another son. Regardless of the people against their relationship, they were a formidable pair. Perhaps they can be called the Brangelina of the ancient times. In 31 BC, Antony’s powerful rival in Rome Octavian declared war on the power couple. Octavian was wary of the growing power and influence of Egypt in Rome and that was something he would not allow.

Perhaps, it also angered Octavian too that Antony has cast aside his wife Octavia Minor his sister for Cleopatra. Even if Cleopatra funded his war, they were defeated. Fearing for her life, she hid in her tombs to escape being captured and taken prisoner. Antony heard reports that Cleopatra was dead, ended his life. He did not know that she just sort of “faked” her own death. So in Romeo and Juliet style, when Cleopatra found out that her lover was dead, she also committed suicide. There were many versions of how she actually died, but the most famous was when she had an asp smuggled inside the palace in a basket of figs. After dismissing her servants, she lied on a gold gilded couch and placed the asp on her breast. She was found dead later on.

A lot of historians questioned the true nature of the love affair of Antony and Cleopatra. Perhaps, at the beginning it was just for political gain. But later on, it blossomed into something more. If it is fitting to end this article in the way Shakespeare ended Romeo and Juliet: For never was a story of more woe, than this of Cleopatra and her Antony.

Things That You Should Know About Adolf Hitler

When people are asked what they know about Adolf Hitler, many would say he’s that megalomaniac who sought world domination. But there is more to this man that what we should know better. Like these facts about the German dictator.

1. Hitler was born in Austria, making him Austrian not German. He was only granted German citizenship in 1932.

2. The young Adolf had always dreamed of becoming an artist. He enrolled in the Vienna Academy of Art in 1907. However, he failed. But he tried again in 1908 to no avail. Some sources say that he wasn’t accepted because he couldn’t draw and paint people. Judging from surviving paintings done by Hitler, it is obvious he has talent. Now, that would make one wonder what would have happened if he was given the chance to become an artist.

3. The führer also does not allow people to see him naked or bathing. That shows how much he values his privacy.

4. One thing people may not know about Adolf Hitler is that he’s a vegetarian. He also encouraged his staff to do the same.

5. He was also extremely fond of his dog Blondie. The pooch was often seen by his side, even during important war meetings. His mistress Eva Braun would always be jealous of the dog. Some reports even say that she would kick Blondie when Hitler was not looking, which would lead him to notice that Blondie seems to be acting strange.

6. For the rest of the world, Hitler was this ruthless dictator but for some children he is a doting Onkel. He was said to be fond of children (Aryan children, that is) and he was proud of the young men of the Hitler Youth. He was especially close to the children of Heinrich Himmler, who called him Onkel Adolf.

7. Hitler was also a big fan of the circus. It was said that he would give expensive flowers and chocolate to the female performers.

8. The man is also a big fan of Wagner’s operas and other forms of art. He was known to go on and on about music and no one dared interrupt him. He also admired Jewish singers, commenting that it was a shame they weren’t Aryan.

9. He enjoyed watching films like comedies. But what was disturbing is that he enjoys films of prisoners being executed and tortured.

10. Hitler had a flawless handwriting, which was examined by the psychologist Carl Jung. He said, "Behind this handwriting I recognize the typical characteristics of a man with essentially feminine instinct."

Some of these facts about Adolf Hitler may seem amusing but it doesn’t erase the fact that the man was responsible for thousands and thousands of deaths during World War II. It is sad to think that because of this man, his actions have given a stigma to the German people. Hopefully these events from the past will serve as a lesson to world leaders who are seeking world supremacy. Such thing will lead them to their downfall.

Some Thoughts : Typhoon Pablo Hit Southern Philippines

Today is Christmas… but as I heard the news that there will be another tropical storm called Quinta that will hit Visayas and Mindanao in the Philippines, I think what a sad Christmas for people who will be victims again. Just this earlier December, Typhoon Pablo hit some parts of Visayas and Mindanao…and everything was so tragic. Particularly in Mindanao, there in Compostella Valley thousands of people died because of landslides…And up to this time, many people are still missing…

These events will not only make the Filipino people down but it will also leave a lot of lessons to be learned. First and foremost is to take care of the mother nature as people in Compostella Valley engaged in too much mining. Thus, this has something to do with those calamities and tragedies. But then, as it happened already, let’s just pray for everyone and especially the people there who survived. May their lives will still be full of hope and faith.

Today is December 25, 2012 here in Philippines.

Last night, my neighbors were not that so noisy celebrating Christmas…so it was really a “silent night”.(tskk) But still I felt Christmas though… the cold wind always reminds me of it… my family and baby also remind me upon how grateful am I to celebrate Christmas not only for today but everyday. Thus, thanks God for keeping me alive up to this time. I owe You a lot.

But by the way, I miss my blog this very Christmas…I was so busy doing a lot of things from work, and now, I finally have some BREAKS. :) So, as a gift for myself, I want to have some “free talks” here in my very own young blog. Yes, it’s young but I’m looking forward to make it matured and stable. I always dream for this, but sometimes I’m confused for the whole process. Yeah, it needs a lot of time, focus, determination, and a lot of connections. I am not a master in terms of web or blog creation etc…etc… yet, I will still hit that point…hopefully.:) For now, I just want to enjoy my stay in my blog talking about some interesting facts in History.

Yes, I love History not because my major and my work have a scope for this. I just love it in a way that I have realized that everybody could learn a lot from it. History is about life itself… this is the whole movement of the humanity in this world. It’s the behavior and actions of people that change the course of events. And also some divine intervention could be counted in a form of natural calamities, phenomenon, etc…etc…

Hope I am not talking too much… but just sharing my thoughts for the day. It’s a beautiful day today for me. Remembering some facts and information in History may be difficult for some people. They find it boring to read; thus hard for them to remember. Some are afraid of dates and different names of people. But History is unavoidable and sometimes a must for you to read and understand especially if you are studying. And though you are done in school, still you need some History. You can't escape it because it's just a part of you; and you're a part of it.

So, how to remember facts in History?

1. Do not think that it's hard to remember...:)

Sometimes, your mind is already preoccupied of what other people thought about History. And once you've heard them saying, "Oh it's so difficult remembering those people...blah...blah...' Then that makes it really difficult for you. SO, have an open mind so you'll receive the invitation...

2. Understand the essence of History

If you don't understand the reasons why you need to read and understand History, then things will really be hard for you. So, if you have the reasons how important it is to you, then you will have the INTEREST in reading it with great enthusiasm...them things will follow naturally.

3. Do not memorize; just read.

Some people may say, 'History is all about memorizing..." Well, they are COMPLETELY wrong... That's why it's hard for them to remember because they just memorize. And the more they memorize; the more that they do not understand it. Keep it in mind that once you read History, you need to understand, picture it out or visualize it, evaluate, reflect to it, analyze it critically, and then LEARN from it. Learning from it is the main point why you need to read it.

How Many Queens of King Henry VIII Were Beheaded?

King Henry VIII was one the most controversial Kings for me. By just looking into his background as a great leader of England before, was a very notable achievement already for him. On the other hand, when it comes to women into his life, I can’t help but stop for a while thinking about the “feeling” of those women of his. It’s funny but sometimes I’m thinking like: what if it happened that I was one of them…:) Especially if I was Anne Boleyn… yeah her story was so dramatic, full of love and passion, yet it ended in a tragic way. Wow…I couldn’t imagine myself losing my head all because of love. (What kind of love is that? Oh my…)

Anyway, so, how many queens of Henry VIII were being beheaded?

First and foremost, there were six queens being married to King Henry VIII.

Catherine of Aragon

Anne Boleyn

Jane Seymour

Anne of Cleves

Catherine Howard

Catherine Parr

Wow…so many Catherine…J Now, actually only two were being beheaded or executed. They were Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard. And surprisingly, these two women were cousins. And the other wives were being annulled, two of them, Anne of Cleves and Catherine of Aragon. And the other wives like Jane Seymour died because of childbirth. And the last one survived because King Henry VIII died.

And to evaluate why these two queens died, most of the reasons were adultery. But accordingly, the case about Anne Boleyn’s adultery was suspicious in the sense that there was no concrete or clear evidence. So, it was assumed that probably King Henry was already tired of her or lost his interest in her especially that she wasn’t able to give her a male heir (really a big deal?)

And the other queens especially Anne of Cleves who just became a queen for six months because she was being annulled. Accordingly it was adultery again made by the woman. And when an annulment was filed, she did not refuse it, thus there the annulment became smooth sailing.(Maybe it may ended to execution again if she was hard…)

So, after all these things, my questions is- why was it that King Henry VIII wanted to marry more women?

In my own point of view, I can see these reasons:

He wanted to have a male child to be an heir to his throne since most of his queens found it hard to have a male child.
He could lose his love easily and could easily find another woman for a replacement.
He just wanted to have more women as a sign of his power as a “great king”
[think about it] …

Yes, I’m still confused until now. Yeah, King Henry knew more about it. But what is important to me is that I pity those women because I am a woman too. But on the other side of the coin is that I also admire their strength and courage to play their hard roles in History. How about you? Let me know your stand…

The Middle Ages is one of the greatest period not only important in the European History but also of the entire world. There are thousands of beautiful, controversial, and critical stories about it. However, sometimes you may be confused about it because it is also sometimes called Dark Ages.

However, it is not the entire period of Middle Ages is considered as the “DARK” one. It could be in the first or in the middle of it that it became dark. There are different explanations too which are being formulated by different Historians. So, there’s no exact explanation because there are many factors being considered why this particular period was considered as “dark”.

So, for you to have a clearer picture on what is it all about, here are the reasons why Middle Ages is also called Dark Ages.

1. The Fall of the Great Roman Empire

Rome during this time was the greatest empire in the world. Its scope was very wide with the help of their great leaders such as Julius Caesar, Augustus Aurelius, and many other great Roman leaders. However, time came when there were no more leaders like them, Rome slow down and its economy and the whole system of the entire empire fell down. Many problems arise like no able leaders, corruption, civil wars, and most importantly was the barbarian invasions. These barbarian invasions of the Visigoths, Ostrogoths, etc. from Germany and from North Europe just entered and invaded Rome when the empire itself was already weak. So, this event makes the Middle Ages dark because of so many chaos. Just imagine how barbarians killed a lot of Romans brutally. Since barbarians were known for this…

2. The Crusades

Crusades were also the Holy wars led by the popes in the Roman Empire with the aim of preserving Christianity over Islam faith in the countries or places that surrounded the Holy City- Israel. The people or the warriors who joined the crusades were of mixed reasons why they joined. Some really wanted to stand firm in the Christian belief and defend it. However, others who were sent by their lords to join may had different motives like for money, territory,, discoveries, etc. And because crusades were holy wars, many people have died; lost their money and properties in supporting it; and even the Roman Empire itself lost one or some of its territories and wealth.

3. Intellectual Stagnation

Since during these times, there were many wars from invaders as well as civil wars, the education or the intellectual side of Rome did not flourish. And especially that the barbarians who invaded were not that educated as the Romans. Therefore, intellectual things stopped and some even vanished. But good that the monasteries which were being taken care of by the monks were able to safeguard some important data in History and other fields of education. Accordingly, even some historical data disappeared during the slaughter of the barbarians. Therefore, this particular period became dark because “things were not that known”. There was little information only about this era. Thus it’s not clear. This reason is always being point out by the futuristic historians.

Yeah, you can learn about everything in this life through History: how to remember facts. There are various reasons why they need to perform this ritual. These could be to please their gods for them to have a good weather, harvest, life, etc.

3.They have this Mayan Calendar.

This kind of calendar of the Maya, people tend to think that the world will end this Dec 2012. But, according to the Maya’s now, the world will just begin a new life cycle; but will not end. 4. The naming of a baby will be based on the day that they will be born.

1. The countries that belong to this part of America were being colonized before by some powerful countries in Europe. The colonizers were Spain, Portugal, France, etc. Because of colonization, the people learned their language very much as well as some culture. So, what? How are these things connected? 2. The languages of the powerful European countries were originally developed out of the “LATIN” language in Rome. Remember the great Roman Empire? Roman Empire was a huge empire; it was almost the entire Europe before. But when barbarians came in and destroyed the empire into pieces, the Latin language was also distorted. Barbarians of German and of Northern Europe origin mixed up with the Romans. Thus, their languages mixed up together. And as Roman Empire fell, it was being divided into different independent countries. And each country has a different language but still there was a commonality of “Latin”. That is why Spanish, Portuguese, French, etc. were having similarities.

3. Now, these different countries in Europe were originally parts of the Roman Empire. Time came; colonization in Europe became a trend due to several factors. Then some of the powerful countries like Spain, France, Portugal, Netherlands, etc. made their way to America. They colonized them and influenced them a lot. Thus, most of the countries from Mexico down to the southern part of America were speaking same languages of their conquerors even up to now. So, because of that, these countries were called- The Latin America.

1. Civil Service System

This started when the Imperial China implemented its Imperial Examination for those people who will serve the government. They made this system to assure that those officials who will have roles in the government were worthy enough. This started in the Han Dynasty and the exam was actually related to the Five Classics of Confucius. Later on, because of its efficacy, other European countries followed. And after, almost all countries of the world followed this pattern.

2. The Compass

At first this compass was made for some ritual practices for the Chinese religion during the Han Dynasty. However, in the Song Dynasty, it was used for the maritime navigation of the military. Later on, Europe had discovered and recorded these inventions. After that, they followed and they innovated it to a better one. Thus, their exploration throughout the world became successful through the use of compass. After that, colonization became a trend.

3. Gunpowder

This is the first explosive chemical that was ever developed during the old times. It has burning properties. And it was discovered in China during the 9^th Century. And because of it, the first fireworks and gunpowder weapon were invented in China. Then later on, Europe, India, and the Arab world followed these inventions. So, a better way of having war was discovered just because of the gunpowder.

4. Paper Currency

Paper currency started in China. As merchants wanted to avoid the heavy bulk copper coins, they used receipts to the banks which later turned into bank notes. After that, paper currency started to evolved. And it was in the Song Dynasty where Paper Currency became a national currency.

5. Kites

Yes kites are one of the great inventions from China. You may think that it is not that important, however its importance before was very high. In times when the city or any place in China was endangered, kites were used to signal that there was an emergency and help was being needed badly. And in some wars, these were also used to signal help from other group of military as a rescue.

Yes inventions in China were fun and interesting. They were also very important. They may be small or big things; however they changed the lives of the people in China and the entire world up to now. The Persian Scientist

"al-Khwārizmī" is a Persian scientist, mathematician, astronomer, geographer, and a scholar. He actually represented the Arab World. He introduced the Hindu-Arabic numerals in the 500 AD. Actually, he was also the original source of Algebra. He made a lot of remarkable works in the field of Mathematics and most of them were being translated into Latin. And many other ancient civilizations followed his teachings and discoveries. They also used them especially in Rome, etc. But some civilizations had some idea already about the concept of zero, however, this Persian Mathematician was the only one who made a thorough explanation and a systematize calculation of zero. But his studies were based from Greek and Indian sources of books and studies. So, he was not really the one who invented zero.

Zero Came From a Latin Word

The present day use this word ZERO. However this came from a Latin word Zefiro which was only a translation of the Arabic term “ṣifr” which means “nothing”. But this Arabic term also came from a Sanskrit word of India “shoonya”.

Conclusion

Though it is vague to determine on who invented zero exactly, but it is clear enough that almost all the ancient civilizations like Greece, Rome, India, China, Maya Civilization, and in Mesopotamia were aware that they needed to represent zero. But they did not make a thorough explanation as if some of them were a little confused and some did not think very much about its great significance. But the Persian Scientist’s study offered a better explanation why and how to use zero. Then the Latin world adapted and even used it when they followed the Hindu-Arabic numbers. Yes, things will not be these better and improvised this time without the trending of colonialism in the past. These inventions are: Astrolabe, Compass, Maps, Printing etc.

Yes, these were used for their exploration and navigation. The pirates made their exploration more adventurous with the help of these inventions.

3. Europeans wanted to have a new trade route to Asia to Save

Yes Asia and Europe were trading already before the age of colonialism. But it was so costly for the Europeans because of the Muslim middlemen. Chinese were among the top traders that Europeans were up to. Their products were so good and even Compass came from them.

4. Asian Spices were in demand in Europe

Yes, Europeans love spices. Spices made their food taste good. They used it for the preservation of meat, dyeing clothes, and for cooking. Spices were so precious for them. It was a luxury. So, the businessmen took advantage of it. So they sponsored voyages to gain a lot of income. And the monarchs were also happy because it will also add more money to their treasuries.

5. The 3 G’s

Yes, “God, Gold, and Glory.” These are the motives of the Europeans especially the first two countries- Spain and Portugal. They wanted to spread Christianity to the world. And they wanted to earn and made some profit. (Who doesn’t want it anyway?) And the rest will follow. That is why the other countries of Europe made their way to colonialism too.

This was the reality at that time. So, who is Cleopatra?

Cleopatra was the last queen ruler of Egypt after the Roman power took place. But before Egypt fell to the mighty hands of Rome, a great controversial and tragic story happened about Cleopatra’s life.

The leadership of Cleopatra’s family in Egypt could be traced after the death of Alexander the Great. Ptolemy, one of the generals of Alexander took over Egypt and he became a king. Now Cleopatra’s father was King Ptolemy XII, a descendant of the first Ptolemy. So, Cleopatra’s nationality is of Greek origin.

When Cleopatra’s father died in 51 B.C., Cleopatra and her brother were left. It was also believed the two got married as part of their custom. However, Egypt that time faced a lot of crisis such as famine, floods, problems in the economy, and most of all political tensions. Cleopatra and her brother had conflicts in political issues. Cleopatra wanted the throne badly. But during this time, Egypt was also endangered to the powerful Rome with the Leadership of Julius Caesar.

Julius fell in love with Cleopatra when he went in Egypt to follow his enemy named Pompey who was the husband of Caesar’s daughter. And he even became very obsessed to Cleopatra that he made a golden statue of her in Rome. However, people didn’t like how he acted as their leader for he was a married man. Therefore, it is no wonder that he was being assassinated in 44 B.C.

Cleopatra Got Caesar’s Son- Mark Antony

Well, the story didn’t end up in Caesar’s death. Cleopatra’s charm and beauty continued its power. This happened when she supported Mark Antony as one of leader among the factions in Rome after Caesar’s death. Because of her loyalty and support for Antony, the met and eventually fell in love with each other. Their love resulted when Cleopatra gave birth to twins and another child. And later, he married her according to Egyptian rites though at that time he was a married to Octavian. Because of this, Octavian raged war to Cleopatra and Antony. But while Antony was in the battlefield, he heard false news that Cleopatra died. With this, he committed suicide by stabbing himself. And when Cleopatra heard this news, she also committed suicide by letting herself bitten by a cobra. Actually, her death was a big debate. But the similarities of the stories are that she committed suicide by taking a poison. After that, Egypt became a province of the mighty Roman Empire.
