The organisers of the Tees Barrage Fun Day made a massive mistake when they put me in a marquee right next to Cake Designs 4 U who just happen to make the most delicious cakes in the entire world! It was too much to bear. I tried to resist but unfortunately after a very short time my will caved in and I had to indulge myself. How I survived for an entire afternoon with so much temptation within easy reach I will never know. My verdict on the cakes…..HEAVEN!

Mayor For A Minute

It was an honour to be invited by the Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Barry Heap, to visit the Town Hall and take wine with him in the Mayor’s Parlour. We had been invited as a thank you for offering to put on our Christmas Show on Xmas Eve for local children, an occasion I am really looking forward to. The entire Wood family went along ( myself, Hazel, Natasha, Katrina and Daniella ) and we took our neighbours Colin and Lorraine Vincent, Jim and Chris Phillips plus some friends, Graham and Karen Gomersall. We were treated to a tour of the Town Hall, The Mayor’s Parlour and The Council Chamber. Richmond ( North Yorkshire ) is a fascinating place with a very interesting history and Councillor Barry Heap is an expert. We all enjoyed listening to his stories of the many objects and pictures on display. We were even allowed to hold The Great Mace Of Richmond, a priceless ceremonial mace which symbolically represents the authority bestowed on the town Mayor by the Monarch.

Another very special treat was to be allowed to wear the ceremonial robes worn by the Mayor whilst on official duties. This is me when I became ” Mayor For A Minute ” Sadly my moment of fame was short lived and I had to return the chain of office and regalia before I had a chance to try and exercise my authority.

I am very proud to live in Richmond and I am glad that we are able to contribute in a small way to the affairs of the community. I hope our Xmas Show will be a huge success and that we can offer our services freely at other events from time to time work commitments permitting.

Wensleydale Show 2010

The weather was fairly kind at the Wensleydale Show this year. A bit breezy but sunny and warm. There was one terrific down pour of rain at about 2.30pm but it soon cleared up and the sun came out again. I always enjoy this event as there is so much to see, especially if you are interested in country life. There are displays in the main arena throughout the day and the commentator is very knowledgeable about farming and the countryside which makes everything so much more interesting. There are loads of traders selling all kinds of goods, a fantastic craft marquee, the Leyburn Brass Band, fairground rides and bouncy castles for the kids, farm animals, vintage cars and machinery, beagles, hounds, horses, falconry and lots of food and refreshments. Definitely a great day out for the whole family.

The show takes place on a field just outside of Leyburn on the way in from Bellerby at the side of the A6108. I always like the view as approaching Leyburn from the Richmond side.

I was at the show performing Punch and Judy as I have for quite a few years.

Last year was very difficult as I was sited on a very exposed piece of high ground and the winds were extremely strong. I was quite literally hanging on to the puppet theatre during the last show to stop it blowing away even though I was well and truly anchored down. The organisers used to have a marquee for the children’s entertainment but decided on grounds of cost to dispense with this which is a shame because it is always better to be under cover.

I had three brilliant audiences this year. Lots of children and families all gathering round and joining in with gusto to the antics of old red nose. Some nice compliments too. Not so many people turned up for the last show as the rain had dispersed the crowds by then. Still, those who did come seemed to be enjoying themselves.

There is a huge amount of work required to organise and run an event of this kind. I hope the Wensleydale Show continues to be supported by the general public as it is such a fantastic day out.

I absolutely love these beautiful donkeys. They belong to Mark Ireson who quite rightly is very proud of them. I’ve met Mark quite a few times over the years and I’ve always been impressed with the kindness and care with which he treats his animals. As you can see from these photos Marks donkeys are in perfect condition. They are always a big hit with children at events and there’s nearly always a queue waiting for a ride.

Donkey Rides are great as part of the children’s entertainment programme.

West Witton Gala | Wensleydale

The sun shone over Wensleydale on Sunday 22nd August. It was a bit breezy but very warm. A perfect day for the annual West Witton Gala. The gala field is on high ground adjacent to the main road and has perfect views down the dale to Leyburn and beyond. It’s a wonderful community event with a BBQ, cakes and refreshments plus a variety of entertainment throughout the afternoon. There were children’s races, a dog show, falconry displays, side stalls, bouncy castles and of course Jolly Good Productions Punch and Judy and Face Painting.

In addition to the regulars from West witton there were quite a few visitors enjoying the atmosphere and joining in with the fun.

It’s definitely making a note in your diary for next year!

The Seaside Comes To Barnsley!

A park in Barnsley was transformed into the seaside for an event organised by Tuckers Funfairs. In addition to a fantastic range of fairground rides and attractions there was also a massive sand pit to represent the beach complete with plastic seats and deck chairs for parents and grand parents to sit in whilst the kids played. There was a main stage with pop bands playing throughout the day, a balloon seller, face painting, side stalls of all kinds and even a Fortune Teller. Food and drink including fish and chips were on sale too.

Of course no seaside event would be complete without ice cream, donkey rides and Punch and Judy.

Jolly Good Productions were employed to provide the Punch and Judy Shows on one of the days and the donkey man even brought a little land train which also fitted well into the theme as rides like this are often operated on the sands at seaside resorts.

It was a great idea to try and do something different. Everyone loves a trip to the seaside so why not have the seaside event brought to your doorstep. If you fancy having an event like this for your local community and you’ve got some suitable land why not call Dunny Tucker on mob 07976271516.

Mini Miami Fairground Ride For Kids

When the fair comes to town there is nearly always a Miami ride. Customers sit side by side and are rotated in a circle at high speed usually screaming their heads off. It’s a massive adrenalin rush and very exciting. Teenagers and adults love the Miamis but unfortunately younger children are too small to be allowed on.

Today I saw a mini miami which I thought was brilliant. It’s a smaller version built to enable kids to have a go in safety. It looks just like the real thing but travels much slower and it’s not at all scary.

The mini miami ride is perfect to hire in for a corporate event or family fun day.
