okay team. tomorrow wraps up a 14 day juice/fruits/veggies cleanse. PARTY.

it all started with this:

so basically, this guy gets way healthier, loses weight, etc.. by doing a juice fast (juicing fresh fruits and veggies). i totally fell for it, bought the juicer, and began my 10 day juice fast. i learned several things. the main thing being:

i hate juicing vegetables

with or without fruit added into the juice, i hate it. so the juicing lasted for a week. then i ate just fruits and veggies for another week. tomorrow (friday), i END THE MISERY!

before i move onto the exciting things to come, here is what i experienced:

1. i am now convinced of the benefit and necessity to eat more nonprocessed foods. i'll get on a soapbox about it if you let me.

2. i lost weight

3. i was EXCRUCIATINGLY tempted.

4. i have more energy and less lethargy than ever - in my life!

5. i have less headaches. i get them almost every other day, usually.

6. it is easier to wake up in the morning.

7. i learned to like veggies more. not all of them, mind you. but i was an avid veggie hater before. who knew i liked broccoli? i didn't.

that said, my plan is to continue eating as many nonprocessed/sugary foods as possible (moderation of course). i am going to attempt the impossible.... eating clean while maintaining a decent grocery budget. i'm scared! I'm especially thankful for the gracious pantry. i am actually looking forward to the recipes and the options available and still eating clean!

anyway. what i've REALLY been thinking about for the past two weeks is:

popcorn. pepperoni and pineapple pizza. thin mint frozen custard from andy's. bagels. pecan sticky buns. cream cheese frosting. pizza crescent roll ups. enchiladas. bailey's. newk's q sandwich. cannoli.

if you follow me on pinterest, you probably saw an increase in the amount of food i pinned. call it my coping mechanism. or call it lust. either way, i won't be eating any of these for a while. so bring on the pins!

p.s. - i turn 24 on saturday. twenty four. as i almost 25. as in almost 30. yes i'm a christian, trust the Lord, and am TERRIFIED of dying and aging. bring back 21. now that was a fun age. i could hang out there a little longer.

well, i guess i'm still on track with my pinterest resolution (hey, 10 days might be a record for me). technically, i've already executed 2 pinterest ideas. so i am OFFICIALLY upping my resolution to once a week. TA DA:

last week's pins (both recipes) turned out great. i gotta say... i follow a lot of people who have tried pinterest recipes that have ended in complete disaster. i've made so many, and that have never failed to meet my expectations.

(sidenote: i also feel weird referring to them as "pinterest recipes"because they have nothing to do with pinterest... someone made them, posted them on their blog, and then all of a sudden you can find it on pinterest. but, you know, its easier to refer to, so i'll probably keep doing it...)

omygoshdelicious. i had to brag and discuss the recipe in detail with my friend beka on gchat the next day. it made so much we froze some... and my mouth is watering as i anticipate the day we can defrost and have the rest (hubz doesnt like the same meal more than twice in a row. i guess that makes sense...).

GUYS. make this ... i mean it involves whipping cream. yumtown.

2. Adult Milkshakes (i know, right?!)

i actually saw this idea on a friend's board. it was for a weight watchers version of a cookies and cream milkshake. i didn't really follow the recipe... but i got the idea from pinterest so it counts, right???

1. i guess this isn't healthy anymore?
2. i need to stop buying the cheap oreos...

the time has come for the standard blog post where i reflect on great moments from 2011 and post about my resolutions for 2012.

wellllll, i kinda hated 2011. so, i'm going to skip the reflecting and move on to 2012. mmkay?

i have 3 resolutions:

1. Read a minimum of 12 books this year. i have no clue which ones... i'd like to read ones that will come out as movies so i can read and see it. any recs? me and my book club (you heard me) are reading extremely loud and incredibly close and i am loving it so far.

2. Do a Pinterest project or recipe twice a month. my first project plan: kindle sleeve. what's that you say... you want to follow me on pinterest? here ya go: http://pinterest.com/rbeccalynne/

3. Blog more. self explanatory.

i'm just sayin - i'm really proud of my humor and food boards. i'm a little snobbish about it.

-i'm newly obsessed with gossip girls. feel free to judge. i'm 16 all over again!

-i will be making a turkey-free thanksgiving this year. we all know its about the carbs. turkey is boring.

-just finished reading The Firm (john grisham) and i could. not. put. it. down. movie on netflix queue now.

-i hate myself for wanting to see breaking dawn.

-this week i made avalanche bars - you need to do this also. the sooner, the better.

-sister in law got married. i was jealous of her cabo trip. take me back to mexico nooooooow

-cleaning. the poor person's way to making your house look cuter.

-i think ashton kutcher is unattractive. and kind of an idiot.

-also, i'm not mad about bradley cooper being the sexiest man of the year. and picketing? i'm sure there are better things to do with your time.

-get ready for this drank: ginger ale, cider, bourbon.

those of you who have the entire week of for thanksgiving, i envy you. those of you attending the final A&M vs. UT game, i envy you. but enjoy it! i will enjoy cooking a million things for two people. and then blogging about it. duh. :)

baby squirrel

we're weird.

i'm about to do a post about a baby squirrel. please don't judge me. or if you do - just fake it around me.

the other day, hubz and I went for a walk and brought our cameras. soon he will be second shooting weddings with me so we were practicing. :) so, as we were walking we saw a baby squirel! and you know how everything is cuter in miniature. except for baby cats. not kittens. babies. they are gross looking and look like yoda.

ANYWAY. this baby was little. and cute. somehow we wanted to take it home with us (i told you not to judge).

hubz was exceptionally excited about the squirrel.

i might have said this before, but sometimes i want to create a "cutesy animals!" board on pinterest. but i never get the guts. which leads me to - why is there not an option to have a private board on pinterest? what if i wanted to post thinspiration pics. or boudoir pics (if thats something i wanted to do - it isn't). i don't want errryone to be seeing that. but i digress.

other than that, hubz learned a lot about his camera and picked everything up really quickly!

i am excited to be booking more weddings and have received more inquiries in the past 3 weeks than... ever! i am hopeful this continues and praying that the lord blesses this if it is his will.

i went for a run last night (er, earlier this week when i wrote this).

it was dark. no one was around. i turned my music waaaaaaaaay up so i could tune out the critters chirping and scurrying and all that.

and i ran alongside a possum at one point.

and i was kinda scared.

eeeeven though i was inside the gates of a christian camp.

eeeeeeven though i shouldn't be afraid of the dark anymore.

eeeeeeeeven though britney and katy perry were helping me power through it.

i thought my shadow was someone chasing me. and when the random light hit me just right, it looked like 3 people were chasing me (curiously running at the same pace as me... hmmm)

and then i looked up.

and have you seen a texas sky? and all the glitter up there?

how could i be scared when there is a God who created this for me. who knows me and loves and... is THERE.

and of course i thought about life. and all the unnecessary (and irrational?) fears we have. and worries.

and how if we woud just look up instead of down and around at things that lead us deeper into the trap of fear... we might be reminded.

of a God who is there.

always there.

last weekend was spent with this girl - we had total girl weekend:

tanning (or spray tanning - tip: never forget to put the lotion on your hands. never.)
waxing
mani/pedi
eating - badly and alot
catch up time with other girls

i was in town for my beautiful friend allizon's wedding. want to see her bridals? check it out. after watching the marriage of these two:

i just wanted to get engaged and married all over again. so i called hubz:

and said: i need a date night. nothing super fancy, but i don't want to see a movie and go to dinner. he said: okay, what about thursday? i said yes.

hubz has thursday off. so he was preparing while i was at work. i got off and saw a picnic basket and cooler all packed up. we hopped in the car and off to faulkner park we went.

so we unloaded and guys, hubz MADE sushi. homemade y'all. i was reaaaaaal excited. and reaaaaaal impressed.

he bought sparkling pink lemonade. and expensive water (we're kind of snobs when it comes to our water)

hi boy.

you may be wondering what the big one is... (don't hate unless you've tried it) SPAM MUSUBI. i ate it all the time in hawaii... they have it everywhere, even mcdonalds! its fried spam, rice, and seaweed. i had been craving it for a long time and he knew it. he's sweet.

hubz - thank you so much! i was super impressed. i would like to have monthly sushi picnics, please. i cant wait to see what you cook up for our next date!

today was my first experience with greek yogurt. all i have to say about that is... :/

friday night lights is almost over. (i love you matt saracen)

my 2 mile run today was pretty great for not running in 2 weeks.

wedding weekend coming up. pink dress. spray tan. lots of sweating on the dance floor... i hope.

against my better judgement, i got a nugget meal at mcdonalds last night. i've since decided i will now stock up on chick fil a sauce for those times when i eat another brand of chicken nuggets.

i'm about to take a spiritual gifts test... i'm betting my top gift is encouragement.

just kidding....

more like discernment. or faith. definitely not encouragement. or compassion.

it is thundering/lightening and i just want to be clear about how much i love dark skies. i know its more acceptable to be the person who looooooooooves sunny days. and i do. but not as much as the cloudy ones.

thinking about going back to mexico this year. but we really really want to go to hawaii next year. i guess we can't do both. or maybe we cannnnn.

would it be terrible to crawl under my desk and take a nap? yes. yes it would. hmph.

borrowlenses.com made me mad. i do not recommend them.

i DO recommend the s'more brownies i am going to make tonight. whoop.

also - if you are not the type of person to get up early to exercise or do your quiet time - become that way. then you can keep me accountable! plus its 1000% better than doing it later. trust.

katy and i hun out at my house for the past 2-3 days and it was wonderful! katy has been a friend of mine since high school. we lifeguarded at a camp together and constantly talk about how we wish we could go back to that summer and re-live it. good friends, pools, sno cones, hanging out, crushes (er, one crush - katy on her now husband). REALLY good times.

chocolate + other fattening foods + crafts + shopping = being girly. and we were VERRRRY girly this weekend.

yummers - toffee crack. seriously addicting.

CHUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! super fresh salsa and creamy jalapeno sauce. do you need anything else for dinner?

trying on clothes at target. did not end up getting this dress... but did get several shorts, a fun floppy hat, and anew purse! i was- am ver excited! been a long time since i bought more than a cheap shirt at one time.

and then we begin our craft - bleach pen t-shirts! courtsey of pinterest. these particular shirts actually failed. miserably. katy's didn't even bleach. my bleach spread fast and i ended up with a big blob design in the center of my blue shirt. bummer.

one of my FAVORITE places in east texas. bonnie and clyde ate here. awesome burgers. awesome sweet potato fries.

i LOVED having you. i love that i didn't have to be insecure that my doorways aren't sealed properly and accidentally let a lot of bugs in. because you lived with bugs in africa! i love that we had all these big plans of a whole lot of crafts and cooking and chose to sit and talk on the couch and pop a frozen pizza into the oven instead. i love seeing how we have grown as people and friends since that first summer at forest glen. we've grown alot! i can't wait until we get to take our friendship to the next level - vacationing together with our huzbands! now. lets get on that.

this may we went to our favorite, austin, to see my sister graduate. it was kind of like out of a movies. when they walked across the stage, they announced where they were going to work. places like facebook, google, big companies. my graduation was more like "i survived!".

we also went to alamo drafthouse (movie theater where they serve food) we had a pulled pork and pineapple pizza - DELICIOUS. we also had popcorn and a milkshake. also DELICIOUS! i also am obsessed with friday night lights right now and saw the same alamo drafthouse on the show the other night!

and, i did NOT understand the glory that is krisy kreme until that weekend. glazed doughnuts, of course, good. but they had awesome stuff like cookies and creme doughnuts. sounds too sweet, but it was not!

coconut margaritas. yum.

we spent most of the time hanging out in the lobby of our hotel just chatting.

it was a great weekend.

yay - we finally did it! ever since last summer when i saw Meg's summer list last year, i wanted to make one. hers is even cuter this year!

i told hubz that summer is my favorite time of year and i don't want to let the season slip by without doing some of our favorite things or things we've been meaning to try.

so most of the list is things for both hubz and I, but a few things are just me. without further ado:

so some of these are lofty (make new curtains) but i think a lot of these are doable! some that might not make sense:

south azalea - a street some of our friends live on. we love hanging out there, even though its almost an hour away from our house.

chuys - a mexican restaurant chain i am absolutely in love with. absolutely. do they have those everywhere?

yes we have an alligator farm nearby. yes, we are in east texas.

i'm excited to cross these things off the list as we go! :)

allizon's bachelorette party was over a month ago. but here i am just now getting around to it. (yay for finally buying another card reader!!) this night was so fun. i just love these girls! massive thanks to cristina and beka for all the work that went into the party/shower the day of. as we watched reruns of the royal wedding and khloe and lamar. duh.

a few detail shots:

bunting i sewed for the partay. let me know if you want to borrow it ever - i have no use for it now!

then we played a game i played at katy's shower. you pass a cucumber around in a circle using only your legs/knees. after it makes it around the circle one time you cut an inch off and do it again. we only made it through 2 cuts. but the things people said were hilariously inappropriate in the right context.

funny story... i asked katy (the redhead) (and not the other katy i mentioned earlier) to pick up a cumuber for the game. but i didn't explain it very well i guess because she bought 7. so i had to get a picture of them with the cucumbers!

this is just great.

yes - katy is poppin a bottle of celebratory champagne... in the parking lot. classy?

Next we went to pete's piano bar. have i ever told you how much i LOVE piano bars? no? well i DO. they are the perfect spot for a party/big group!

one thing i forgot to mention... remember all those cucumbers? well, we thought it was a good idea to go ahead and bring all of them to pete's. so we got lots of recognition for being the group of girls waving around cucumbers in the air. as the night got later and we were delirious, we began passing them around to other tables letting people eat a bite if they wanted. kinda gross - people actually did it.

sigh. a great night. i cannot wait to reunite with these girls at the wedding!

A verse that has been teaching me a lot this past week:

"I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
   and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
   more than watchmen for the morning,

The NIV version says "my whole being waits". Every part of me patiently waits for the Lord to tell me to move. Where i'm going. Why I'm here.

I am not good at living that way, and apparently, the Lord thinks I need to change. I'm okay with that. This past week, He's been brining me lots of scripture on waiting. I'm not sure why - I don't have some big thing in life I'm struggling with waiting on. But I guess if the Lord says to wait, I can't become anxious about why.

confession. i own a nice camera. started out with a nikon d5000 and upped to a d300s. its not, like, the nicest camera in the world or anything, but it was fairly expensive for our family. that said...

i prefer taking pictures with my iPhone.

not for actual sessions or anything. but for this blog. for everyday life. it's just SO much easier to take, upload, and not feel the pressure to edit. or resize because shooting in RAW takes up so much space!

thus... iphone pictures.

the bed frame we picked up on the side of the road... for free... that we will be spray painting magenta for the guest room.

you heard me... magenta.

this is what it is REALLY like when i cook. dinner stuff all mixed up with dessert stuff.

you might call that gross....

so do i.

when we had the interns over they washed our dishes and stacked them in rainbow fashion. i've kept them that way ever since. i can't help but smile when i open my cabinet!

have i showed you these yet? my new $14 canister set. from salvation army. reminds me of anthropologie.

this is the second time i've made this cake. and the second time i've blogged about it (no link to the other blog post... too lazy to find it).

we had another group of interns over and had a birthday themed par-tay.

was it anyone's birthday?

no.

BUT, we just went with it. so,

everyone had to wear party hats (with the string underneath your chin) i order to be admitted into our home and eat.
we had a pinata! we hit it! we got candy out of it!
everyone got party favors. you know... the old school cheap kind. stencils, crappy sunglasses, those games where you have to get the little metal ball inside the center of the maze, and little plastic army men!
we had sparkler candles in the cake and everyone had to sing happy birthday... to everyone.

all in all, it was super fun. we played more bezzerwizzer and drank lots of ibc root beer and cream soda.

also... did you know that dublin dr. pepper is REAL good? i didn't. but i do now.

now, i have to go because SOMEONE (hubzter) wants me to go google comic book movies for him.

i know, right?

okay, okay fine. i like them too. ESPECIALLY iron man.

last night i made baked mac and cheese. i made it for the interns we are having over for dinner tonight.

here is the finished product:

yes i know... yummy.

anyway. i decided it was vital for me to take a bite of this thing because...

a. i need to make sure it tastes as good as it looks

b. it is mac and cheese. i cannot wait 20 hours just to have one measly bite!

b. i need to make sure it wasn't dangerous/poisonous? maybeeee a stretch.

so i did.

see?

but it's okay. because you know what you do? you stick a serving spoon on that side and pretend you ~~weren't a fatty who couldn't wait to eat some grub~~ had the patience to wait until the rest of the group. and voila! presentation saved. you never would have known.

feel free to try this with brownies, casseroles, and ALL thanksgiving sides.

sometimes that's how i view my life. such a waste.

what the heck am I doing for the Lord? his purposes? his people?

am i too distracted by wanting to buy "can-you-believe-i-got-this-for-only-12-bucks?!" house decor?

does the world of blogging/photography/baking/crafting suck me in so deep sometimes that i emerge wondering why there's not more?

at the end of the month, do i realize that not only did i not obey budget, but i spent every dollar we had on something I thought I needed? (you know, like those 3 iPhone cases i just needed to buy)

and then one day i wake up and begin my quiet time with "Lord, I've missed you!" and i just know he's saying the same thing back to me.

Rebecca, he says, did you think those things would satisfy?

well. i guess i did. i didn't intend too, i just got caught up in ME. i forgot to remember you.

how embarrassing. how disappointing. how selfish. how typical.

i don't want to forget you, Lord.

i have a responsibility, desire and need to keep him first. keep him real in my life.

and when i do (if i do) he uses me and work in and through me. and that's what i love the most. when I can see my obedience being rewarded, being found pleasing, being USED.

i want to be used for a greater purpose than having a cute home. taking good pictures. buying trendy clothes.

i don't want my life to be a waste.

maybe that means i have to start going to church? :) i definitely know it means i have to get involved in something bigger than me.

i'll be praying about where/how the Lord wants me to serve. to become smaller. to decrease.

to live a full life; un-wasted.

well, not really a party, more like a dinner. we had the interns over as i mentioned in my last post... we made them wear pajamas to gain entrance into our home. oh, and they had to drink out of crazy straws.

on the menu:
-breakfast burritos
-banana nut muffins
-a donut pyramid (small powdereds and chocolate covereds)
-bacon
-pigs in a blanket
-fresh fruit w/ vanilla dip
-4 different cereals
-milk, chocolate milk, and juice

afterwards we played a trivia game called bezzerwizzer. anyone ever heard of it? i just started seeing it at walmart. you know how it is with games you/ve never heard of/played before... you are not sure if they're going to be any good? well, i bought this one because it was the most expensive and i waas hoping $$$ = quality.

it wasn't bad... it wasn't ridiculously random like trivial pursuit can be. it's a lot of questions where the answer is on the tip of your tongue. or you don't know it, but you know you should know it. ANYWAY. when you want to steal a question from someone, you yell out BEZZERWIZZER.

but thats kind of a long word you know?

so in the end we just spent the whole night eating cereal and baked goods and yelling out BIZZYWIZ. i say that makes for a good evening.

this wednesday night, we are having a different group of interns over. we have a fun theme i am excited about! lets just say i'll be making the rainbow layer cake again!

i need recommendations for games! what are your favorites?!

*has anyone ever played "things"? so inappropriate. so good.

who doesn't love banana bread/muffins ? please tell me, because i firmly believe that you can't NOT love it. especially hot. especially with butter. (now please tell me who doesn't love butter... i will tell you they are lying. you cannot convince me otherwise.)

so when we decided to have a breakfast themed dinner for the camp's interns, i knew we HAD to have banana bread.

lets back up a second. my mom makes THE best banana bread. ever. and so when my friend tamara gave me a banana bread recipe, i was like... i'm sure this is good, but no one can beat momma beassie. so i left the recipe card attached to our bulletin and didn't really think about it. but when it came to make these muffins, i decided, why not? i'll give this recipe a try.

i was an idiot.

mom's banana bread is definitely a favorite, but THIS recipe?!!? it is utterly obnoxious how good it is. can bread even be creamy? because this one is. and rich. and luxurious. (too much?) just melts in your mouth... and i can't believe i'm saying this, but NO need for butter! butter always makes it extra good and extra fatty.... but there is not even a desire for it with these thangs.

i stand corrected. mom, i'll give you the recipe.

i did make a few slight adjustments to the recipe, but the majority of it came from the newly married tamara mcguire:

Banana Nut Muffins
1 stick salted butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 c. sour cream
1 c. mashed bananas (about 2)
2 oz. chopped walnuts
1-2 oz. chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together sugar and butter. Add eggs and mix until combined. Add flour, salt, and baking soda. Add sour cream, vanilla, and bananas. Mix. Pour into muffin pan (fill each muffin 3/4 way full). Bake 30ish minutes.... until golden brown.

and then i would also add a crumble to the recipe. google them. that is the one thing that made my mom's the best! she discovered the secret to making sweet breads, a sweet streusel topping!
