Some pictures of the 3D My Cardboard Life comic I made for "That's Novel!" The comics exhibition at London Print Studio.

This is the 2D version of the comic. All the lower panels open up into three dimensions.

New things!

Some new things (actually, the badges aren't new, who am I kidding). I'll be bringing this stuff to APE this weekend (16th-17th October) Also other upcoming conventions, and then I'll put them for sale on the website too.

A comic made of all the wasp strips that I made a few months ago. It's tiny. 3.5 inches squared.

This is a special tool I've invented for making new friends. Or maybe upgrading your existing friends. It's the BFF application form. Each booklet comes with 50 forms.

I finished a sketchbook

Exciting news! I've finished a sketchbook! So I've scanned a couple of things out of it.

Here's my page of coffees. I only started drinking coffee in February, so I thought I'd start a tradition of drawing every coffee I ever have (except for instant coffees!). Sometimes I've added the date, sometimes not. Maybe in my next sketchbook I'll have a more organised system. It will make things a lot easier when I write my coffee memoirs.

I've started on a new sketchbook now. I think it might be a lucky one!

Hey Look at these badges I've made. They're for people who are best friends. Oh apart from the mean one! My Granny came up with that slogan. Honestly.

This is the My Cardboard Life strip that the badges are from. I'll have them ready for London MCM Expo in a few weeks, and then I'll put them on the website after that.

Here's another thing I've ALREADY GOT for MCM Expo. It's my stickers for the Dino-Saw-Us sticker collecting game. Yay.

Oh and here's something else entirely. If you follow me on Twitter, you might have seen these photos that I occasionally take of the various 'colleagues' that I work with. Well here they all are in one place (a Flickr set that is). Am I going to do any more of these? I dunno. Maybe. Probably. Depends whether or not my colleagues do anything worth photographing I suppose.

Palingo

A few weeks ago me and my cousin Molly made a friend out of a balloon and some paper. His name was Plego, and then it was Paleego and now it's Palingo. He's probably shriveled or popped by now. I don't want to think about that. Anyway, I recreated him in collage so he will live on forever.

A doodle which looks almost exactly like another doodle I did, but you know, what of it?

And here's a collage which is based on a real romantic fling between two real life labradors. I'm not saying who they are because they probably don't want everyone knowing their private stuff.

Mugs and romance and cake

I've finally added the My Cardboard Life mugs to the My Cardboard Life shop, which is actually a new shop when you think about it. The Doctor Bandaid mini-comics are in there too, as well as the My Cardboard Life mini-comics. Go and have a look if you like.

You see that cake in the picture? It's supposed to be a real life version of the cake in my tea party diorama. I wanted to replicate all the food from the tea party, but thought better of it in the end.

Here's some pictures of the Doctor Bandaid mini-comic "Doctor Bandaid's Hot Guide to Romance".

Doctor Bandaid is kind of disgusting really. Sometimes he hangs around my local swimming pool. No one's ever happy to see him there. He's a serial lady ogler you see.

Anyway, as gross as he is, I quite like Doctor Bandaid and that's why I made this mini-comic all about him. Mostly it's done in the usual My Cardboard Life collage way, but I've also put some OTHER styles in there. There's some watercolour illustrations, a gouache painting and also a poem.

Time-lapse drawing

Here I am drawing a cityscape. And below you can see the finished drawing. I think I might make a time-lapse video every time I do drawing/illustration from now on. I faff around a lot less when there's a camera watching me and taking my photo every second that passes.

The music on that video is called 'Coconut Groove' and it's from the YouTube music library. I just saw the word coconut and I was like, oooh coconut. Also it made me think of coconut mall, one of the best tracks in Mario Kart Wii. Anyway, this morning after I had selected 'Coconut Groove' for the video I couldn't stop thinking about coconut, so I went to the cake shop and got one of those danish pastries with coconut on top. I'm gonna be brutally honest now. It was a bit dry.

If you've got an anecdote about coconut, please do share it with me I'd love to hear it.

Muggins Here

This is the tea party diorama that I've made for UK Web & Mini Comix Thing which is occuring soon (27th March). There are more pictures of it from various angles in a Flickr set here. Hopefully I can get it to the convention and onto my table without damaging it too much. Should be okay. Paper and card typically don't shatter when dropped.

Which is more than I can say for this...

No not Carl, you can't shatter him. No I'm talking about the My Cardboard Life mug. This is just the prototype. When I've got the finished articles I'll make them available to buy. I might also be bringing them to the UK Thing!

Could it be a worthy receptacle for your favourite hot drink (or cold drink if you're a bit of an oddball)?

Oh and here's yet another thing for the Thing. My stickers for the DINO-SAW-US challenge, which involves collecting stickers from different exhibitors. Also my special "APPROVED FOR FRIENDSHIP" stamp, for stamping dino-saw-us passports, or anything else I want to approve (for friendship). If you've received anything from me in the post lately you may recognise that stamp. I approved you for friendship, we're best friends now. FOR LIFE!

Something I invented

Doodle that I did whilst I was watching Neighbours and thinking about how don't enjoy peeling oranges very much. This is the solution (to the oranges. There is no solution to Neighbours. Neighbours is a soap opera and therefore never ends). It doesn't work. Where do you even put the orange? I think I'll just stick to satsumas.

Some new crochet animals. Not quite sure what the light pink thing is. Maybe a cat.

This was supposed to be a frog, but once I'd added the button eyes it looked more like some kind of snake's head. We are not friends. He's an eyesore and I hate him.

Cardboard Carl

Here's some drawings of Cardboard Carl from my sketchbook. Also a preliminary Carl who had a knitted beard. I didn't knit it myself, I cut it out of a scarf. The final beard was cut out of an old vest. Recycling you see, it's good for the environment. Did I wash the vest? No I did not.

Other things...

It's the first birthday of 'The Annotated Weekender', which is one of the funniest, most brilliant things your eyes can ever see. I've done a guest annotation, which you can view here. Lots of other fellows and fellowettes have also contributed to the birthday collection of doodles so do check them all out.

Also, I've been profiled on the Thought Bubble blog. Read it here. It's the blog of Thought Bubble festival in Leeds, which is a great time for all. I was there last year, and I'll be there this year too.

The Bus

Another one of those comics that I've made for my sister Holly. Here's the first one. My older sister Kate is also featured in this. Got to keep both sisters happy.

We were getting the bus to see Ponyo at the cinema. I highly recommend it, most enjoyable. Ponyo was quite good too.

My little sister Holly was home from University this weekend. She was upset with me because she wasn't featured in the hourly comics a couple of weeks ago. Well how could she have been featured? She wasn't here! Anyway, to appease her I've made some comics of me and Holly hanging out this weekend. This one is of Holly being quite quite cruel. After this she kept calling me "Willy".

Hello! Clearly I've not updated for quite a while. My excuse is that my part time job got temporarily upgraded to full time so I've not been doing a lot of things worth adding to this blog really. after creating the massive monster Pink Pat, I thought I'd make the next crochet character a bit smaller and more streamlined.

Brain is smaller than the others, but he took a long time to make any way because the grey wool was so tangled, I spent most of my time untangling it rather than actually making any stitches. Still, he got finished in the end. Top tip for de-tangling: do it slowly and be patient or you can make it a lot worse.

Robot Xmas Cards

My Mum wanted me to design some Christmas cards for her, and this is what I made. It's those collage robots again, but they're a little bit Christmas related.

I tried to make it so they were not TOO christmassy, but I think I might have gone a bit far the other way and made them not christmassy enough.

Since I made them anyway, I've added them to Etsy in a set. If you want any, look for them in the Etsy shop.

My Cardboard Life volume 6

I've finally got round to making the next My Cardboard Life mini-comic, it's Volume six and I've given it an orange cover, with Pauline and Colin on the front doing silly faces.

I've upped the number of pages in this volume to 24 (20 pages in previous books). It's a bit bulkier than the others, I don't think I could have any more pages than that with this size book and the the thick paper that I use.

My Cardboard Life volume 6 is available in my Etsy shop now. I've also updated the Mini-Comic sets, so there is now a volumes 1-6 set and also a nine book set including the mini stories.
