Today is a very special day for me, Sunshine Meadow. Today is the anniversary of my Gotcha Day. The day that Kelsey Ann went to the bridge, I was brought in as a stray at the Humane Society of Lebanon County. That was a Wednesday. On Saturday, I met the bipeds who would be my new family when they brought a food donation. I wasn't allowed to go with them that day since I had only been in the kennels for two days, but on Sunday I was eligible for adoption. They were there waiting for me when the place opened and I went to my fur-ever home.

I met Canyon (Sky too, but couldn't find a picture from my first day)

Biloxi was staying with them at the time in foster care. He didn't want to share "his" toys.

I found my favorite perch. Because I had a habit of sitting on furniture with muddy paws, no doggies are allowed on furniture anymore. Mom and Dad recently spent lots of money to have the muddy pawprints cleaned and I had to learn to stay off furniture. Good thing I'm a fast learner.

Here I am learning to drive. The little biped is trying to explain the intricacies of stick shift to me. Now, I'm quick at learning, but how am I supposed to reach the pedals and see out the window. I also can't figure out how to grab the gear shift with no thumbs.

Here I am finding dirty dishes.

I've done a whole bunch of fun things over the last year. Mom and Dad are really good at spoiling my fun though. There is a fridge lock; food is now stored in the garage; no dogs on furniture anymore; special Meadow proof fence in addition to the 6 foot chainlink. But, I've thoroughly trained them new tricks... Everydog gets an ice cube whenever the freezer is opened; food dishes can be used as frisbees; the little biped likes kisses to wake her up; no water in my dish - that's OK we'll drink from the toilet; a girl needs a BFF, better adopt a puppy for me.

Well, 1 year down. Many more to go. Lots of stupid human tricks for me to teach.

New Smells!

Well, what happened yesterday wasn't what we had expected. Mom came home and let us all out and then Meadow and I had to go back into our crates (at least Mom let us room together for the evening). Out the door she went. What???? Where's the little biped??? Why are you leaving us again????

When it was almost dark Mom and the little biped came home and they both smelled really strange....I couldn't figure out what they smelled like.....was it animal, vegetable or mineral??? I decided I better look at the camera to see what the strange smells were and this is what I found...

Now this was the coolest part.....my bipeds saw these awesome canine athletes. Mom told me all of them are rescued dogs just like us. They even got to meet some of the canine stars after the show and mom personally thanked the human in charge for having rescued dogs. He said he wouldn't have it any other way. I was so happy to hear that! If you look closely at the pictures you can see all kinds of awesome canine manuevers!

I wish I would have been allowed to go to the fair with them. It looks like I would have had a pawsome time and maybe learned a few new tricks!

A Field Trip

After lunch yesterday, the bipeds began getting ready to go out. I figured I would be heading to my crate in the garage right next to Brook's. Instead, I got hooked up to my leash and taken to the car. Where are we going I wondered.

The Little Biped was happy to go wherever it was we were going

Once we got out of the car, I led the way with my nose to the ground to sniff everything in our path

What's this? A brook - thought we left her at home... LOL.

Smells like fish!

Look at the pretty view. Not far from where we sat, the stream runs into a big lake.

There's the fish. See 'em, Dad. Catch some for me!

Is that the best you can do? Last week you brought home a bunch of these. Just one lousy 4 inch blue gill today. No wonder the Little Biped got bored so quickly this week and the fishing trip lasted less than 30 minutes.

Hey Pups,

Thought I'd tell you about our July 4th weekend. Dad took the Little Biped fishing. They caught a bunch of fish. Crappies, sunnies, rock fish, blue gills and even one smallmouth bass. The bass was too small to keep. The largest fish caught, a sunny, was about 7 inches and the Little Biped set the hook and landed it by herself. I'm not sharing pictures of that because I didn't get to eat any, so you don't get to see the photos. They went to a couple of picnics without us - so again no pictures because we weren't invited. Yesterday, all of us got baths in the front yard after Dad washed the cars. Here we are in the yard doing our best to get dirty again.

Dad really needs to do something about the grass and weeds that have found their way up through the mulch.

This weekend marks a very special anniversary for somepuppy. Do woo remember this puppy?
That's Biloxi, our foster pup we helped save. He came to us from Mississippi. Dad drove him the whole way home from MS the last week of June last year. This pic is from Biloxi helping us with the Blogathon.
Biloxi spent his first weekend with us at the beach in Delaware. He seemed to love soaking up the rays!

As is the case every morning, Canyon, Sky and I awoke as the first dawn's light began to come through the window. Dad and Mom aren't too happy with us most mornings because we are rising before 6am. This morning, the dawn came a little later than usual because the sky was black with thunder clouds. Every few seconds a big flash of light and a terrible noise occurred. Mom woke up and wondered aloud what time it might be. She put on her glasses and looked at the clock - OH NO! THE POWER WAS OUT SHE SAID. Quickly she ran to the dining room to look at the battery powered clock. She came back and told Dad it was 6:05am. They got up and Dad took us to the garage to wake Brook and head outside for our morning trip to the dog yard. While we were out, we got soaked (Dad said later the rain gauge had over an inch of rain from the 1 hour deluge this morning). I was thirsty, so I decided to dig a hole that could fill up with water for a drink. Dad came back from his trip to the big white porcelain water bowl in the basement to let us in and found me with my paws covered in mud. All of us got our feet wiped when we came in and I got put right in my crate. I sat and cried because Brook wasn't with me and Brook sat and cried in the dining room right by the door to the garage and cried. Finally, Mom was headed to the basement to get clothing from the laundry baskets in the laundry room and let Brook into her crate next to mine. Dad took some pictures of me and my muddy paws to share with you.

Another Red Head Needs Help...

We just thought we had to share with you the story of a little red and white husky puppy we heard about today.

Sinatra is a 3-4 month old Siberian Husky that was hit by a car on the 23rd May and taken to the Emergency Vet Clinic by a Good Samaritan, as she was a stray they wouldn't treat her but they gave her pain meds and sent her over to animal control where she sat in a cage in sick and injured for 4 days

As you can see from her X Rays she has a fractured Pelvis, fractured Femoral Head, Fractured Left Tibia and Fibula. Due to the extent of her injuries it is the vets opinion she has to have surgery to repair all her injuries at the same time or be humanely euthanized and that is the last thing we want when with surgery she is expected to make a FULL recovery and lead a long happy 4 legged life !! She is going to go to Kansas State for the treatment. It is expected to cost at least $1500 and probably a lot more, but we wont know exactly how much until her our vet can call them tomorrow her X rays and pain meds today were $100. (Update 5/28 costs are expected to reach $2500 for her treatment)

If you can help by donating even $10 it would be greatly appreciated, as the rescue just don't have the funds to be able to pay for all her treatment.

Sinatra's condition can be verified by Dr Brooks at Meadowbrook Veterinarian Hospital (316) 733-6866

We feel we have a certain kinship with this little pup. It was almost a year ago we took Biloxi in as a foster with a very similar injury. He unfortunately was not able to get the immediate care these donations will allow Sinatra to have. His leg healed incorrectly and just about 1 month ago he had to have surgery to remove the femoral head from one of his femurs. We really think had he been as lucky as Sinatra to get quick treatment he wouldn't have had to go through the pain of the surgery almost a year later.

What's that, these are the Little Biped's fish? She's named them? You say they're names are Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and the baby fish is Veronica? You want me to not eat them?

Left Alone

Hey Pups,

We spent a long weekend home alone. The neighbor's grandson stopped to visit several times a day and make sure we got our food and that I got my allergy medicine. But, for most of the day we were without humans. Canyon and I had the run of the house, of course; while, Meadow and Brook spent the weekend in the garage in their crates. The humans left Wednesday after work and came back around lunch time on Sunday. I had to look at the pictures on the camera to figure out where they were.

I'm wasn't sure where this was, but I recognize the guy made out of flowers - that's Mickey Mouse... I figured that they must have been at Disney World. Mom told me that there were lots of characters made out of flowers because Epcot was having the Flower and Garden Festival.

It was Mom's birthday, so she got a birthday cupcake at 1900 Park Faire.

They went there to eat dinner with the little biped's favorite - Princess Cinderella, Prince Charming, the step-sisters and step-mother (later in the week, they ate breakfast with Belle, Snow White, Ariel, Aurora, and Cinderella at Norway in Epcot).

Here's another of the little biped's favorites - Mickey ice cream.

Here's the little biped getting her autograph book signed by Mickey Mouse.

The pictures also revealed that they ate breakfast at Ohana with Lilo, Stitch, Mickey and Pluto; dinner at Crystal Palace with Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore; and dinner at the Biergarten in Epcot. There were no characters there, but there were funny dressed men playing traditional German instruments. The little biped got autographs from lots of other characters including Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, Tinkerbell (and her friends), Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Mr. Penguin, Mary Poppins, Alice, and a few others.

Mom and Dad have already been talking about the next two trips in August and December.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - if Mickey's dog Pluto is allowed in the park, then why am I not?

A Day with no Crates

Our morning routine usually goes like this. I woke up at dawn and sit on Mom and Dad's heads until they wake up. They don't wake up until the radio starts playing every day at 6AM. Dad gets out of bed and turns off the radio. It starts up again at 6:07. Dad turns it off again. Then it goes off at 6:14, and they finally get out of bed. Dad takes us out, getting Brook out of her crate on the way, and Mom goes to the shower. The humans get dressed, pack lunches, wake up the Little Biped and get her dressed. Mom leaves. A few minutes later, Brook and I go to our crates and Dad and the Little Biped get in his car to leave for the day.

Today went a little bit different. Sky woke us all up at 3AM to go out. We went back to bed. At 5AM, Sky woke us up again. This time no one went out, but Dad gave Sky water because this seemed to be what he wanted. The 6AM alarm went off and Mom got out of bed and went to the shower. Dad stayed in bed through a few snooze alarms like normal. We went outside and everything seemed status quo for a while. The really unusual part came when Dad and the Little Biped left. Brook and I stayed in the house with Sky and Canyon!

Of course, we wanted to make sure that we wouldn't get in trouble so we would be able to have this privilege another time. But, as you know - I have learned how to open kitchen cabinet doors, refrigerator doors, food dishes, etc. Nothing was closed up!! How could I resist this temptation? I stayed out of the refrigerator - there's nothing in it right now I would want because the humans really need to go to the grocery store. The dog food has been moved to a container in the garage due to me opening it all the time (and later teaching Brook and Canyon how to do it too) - so I couldn't get into food... But, when I opened the kitchen cabinet, I found the trash can and it was nearly full!!

Brook helped me sort through it to see what we could find. There was half a bag of popcorn that we ate. We also opened the tea bags and ate all the tea out of them.

Mom came home and called Dad immediately asking him if he knew what he forgot this morning. There was several minutes of asking how he could forget to put us in our crates, telling him how lucky he was that no damage was done to furniture or toys, that we didn't find the left-over Easter candy on the counter, and several other things not suitable to repeat on a family-friendly blog.

So, Brook and I had a fun day playing in the trash can and sharing dog beds with Canyon and Sky, but I think we ruined our chances to try this again any time soon. As the Little Biped says: DERMIT!!!

Bath Time

Hey Pups,

I finally convinced the humans to write a new blog post. They've been very busy with working in the yard during the nice spring weather.

I wanted to share some pictures of the girls being humiliated with bath time this week.

Brook wasn't quite sure what to expect when it all started.

The girls had to get baths due to accidents in their crates. Brook hasn't learned yet that it's not OK to do their business in their crates (although there hasn't been another accident since the bath 6 days ago); and Meadow has been throwing up in her crate. These events cause them to have a very strong odor that the humans don't want in the house.

So, now that I've sufficiently embarrassed my little sisters by showing you pictures of them during and right after their baths - I'll say good night.

We survived!

Well, we all survived the week with dad. I wasn't sure if Brook was going to survive though. I think she was trying to work on her HULA application. She could have been trying to plead with mom to come home early too. Early last week dad was in the room with the big water bowl and mom called dad on his cell phone. Brook decided she needed to try to answer the call and this was the result...

All in all it wasn't too bad with dad in charge. He didn't forget to feed us at all, but then again, Sky would never let him forget to feed us.

Here's a picture of the little biped when she cam home last week. This is the tube slide on her swingset. I'll share more pics of that later.

I also have some bad news to share. My little sister hasn't been behaving very well, case in point, Dad's cell phone. Well, all of us sleep in mom and dad's room at night and somepuppy has been deciding it's a good idea to chew holes in mom's quilts. Brook is really working on her HULA membership. Well, mom and dad decided Brook can no longer sleep in the bedroom until she outgrows (hopefully) this puppy chewing habit. Brook has to spend her nights in her crate. I really miss her when she's there!

Calling All Royal Subjects to Protect My Castle

Hey Pups,

On Saturday morning suitcases were loaded into the car and the family left. I thought we were going to be home alone for a while... but Dad came back without Mom and the Little Biped. Apparently, it was a vacation for the women only. Dad returned home and let us out. Shortly after, he put the girls back in their crates, left Canyon and I in the house and got his tools. I watched from the window to see what he was doing in the backyard. He spent several hours out there, drank a lot of beers, and worked on the Little Biped's new swing set which is going to be a birthday surprise for her when she returns home on Saturday (her birthday isn't for several more weeks, but this will be an early present).

Sunday morning, a man-who-visits-us-sometimes showed up in the driveway. Dad left the teapot on the stove, and put us in the dog yard (fortunately Dad heard the smoke detector and came in the house in time to save us from disaster - the only loss was the teapot). The man-who-visits-us-sometimes and Dad spent all morning working on the swing set. This time there were no beers because the man-who-visits-us-sometimes said he had to go to work later in the day. We overheard the man-who-visits-us-sometimes suggesting that the dogs be the first to try out the sliding board. Dad thought it would be funnier to find a cat to do the honors. The man-who-visits-us-sometimes left around lunch and we got to come in. After lunch, Dad got his tools and beer again and we spent the rest of the day in the house.

Several problems in this situation... 1) We are left in Dad's care - can't complain about this too much because we are still getting regular trips out, food and water - the only problem is weekends are supposed to be time to play with doggies and we didn't get to play with Dad at all because he spent all weekend outside with beer and power tools. 2) Dad had beer and power tools - enough said. 3) Dad tried to burn down the house by leaving the teapot on while he went out.

Royal Subjects, King Skyboy hereby demands that you come and help me protect the house. Dad has beer and power tools... Who knows what could happen.

P.S. Dad wants me to add that the only power tool involved was a cordless drill. He didn't have anything that could have injured him severely. The only injuries involved were a few splinters resulting in the necessity to dig them out with a pocket knife blade, but it wouldn't have been a man project if he didn't bleed on it.

Oweee, oweee. Puppy cries. Mom got out the toenail trimmer a few days ago. I struggled because I was afraid to be hurt. Mom said if I had just sit still and been a good dog, it would have been OK. Instead, there was blood all over the floor, Mom, me, and some even managed to splatter on the dining room table. I had to get all bandaged up. I'm fine now so don't worry about me anymore. But I want to let all doggies know - when you see the toenail clipper go hide under the bed. If your people catch you, then make sure you sit still.

Stuck in the Bathroom

Hey Pups,

OK, so I know this happened over a week ago, but I have to really claw at Mom and Dad to get them to write blogs since they got the Wii. Sunday a week ago, the Little Biped was in the big bed (Mom's and Dad's) with a movie. She fell asleep about 10 minutes in as expected. Mom was working on a dress for the Little Biped (but Mom's dresses are another story) and Dad was watching the Nascar race. Dad went and got the computer in the middle of the race because they put a little picture in the corner of the screen.

I'm not sure what the picture means, but before long they interrupted the race and showed a picture with lots of colors across another picture with lots of lines, words and dots. The colors were moving up and to the right across the screen. He told Mom that we were all going to have to go downstairs. Meanwhile, Meadow and Brook had climbed onto the back of the couch and opened a blind. We all saw it had started to rain really hard. Woooo!!! Going outside in the rain is lots of fun. We get to play in the mud and dig holes. Woooo!!!

Dad woke the Little Biped from her nap, Mom grabbed the computer and the camera and we all went downstairs. But instead of going outside, we all went into the little bathroom.

Even the Little Biped's bolt doll went with. Mom got her a pillow and blanket because initially she was still tired from her nap.

About 20 minutes later, we were allowed to leave the little basement bathroom and finally go outside. The TV said that a tornado had been seen near where we live. Fortunately, not to near. There were no problems at our house. Just lots of rain - which resulted in lots of mud in the yard. Wooo!

My Favorite Toy

I wanted to show you my favorite toy. It wasn't bought specifically for me, but I've claimed it as mine. This toy was here before me. I've heard that Khyra gave it to the Kapp Pack. The Little Biped really likes lady bugs and that's just what this toy is. I've been carrying this toy around with me all over the place lately. In the morning, I pick it up off my bed and take it with me. Dad makes me leave it inside. So as soon as I go, I come back in and pick it up. I carry it back upstairs and play with it. Then I have to leave it for a while because squeekies and plushies aren't allowed in the crates. When Mom or Dad gets home from work, I hurry to go so I can find my lady bug. It stays with me all night and I carry it to bed.

I really like it because it's soft, it has pull ropes and it squeeks. What else could it possibly have to make it better.

Can Dogs Get the Flu?

Hey Pups,

Can dogs get the flu from their people? I really hope not. Mom and Dad said the Little Biped threw up at the grocery store last Saturday night. She seemed to be OK after that; however, Monday night she woke up crying and said she was cold. Turned out she was running a fever. She went to Gama's Tuesday and threw up at Gama's house. Tuesday night her fever was up to 103.4. She went to Gama's again Wednesday. That afternoon, Dad came home and said he didn't feel good. He got the thermometer and found out he had a fever too. Thursday, Dad had to go to Maine for some meetings so despite not feeling well, he got out of bed at 3am and was on a plane before 6am. He got home around 10:30pm. Meanwhile, the Little Biped spent another day at Gama's. Dad tried to get up for work this morning, but Mom insisted that he take a sick day. So, the Little Biped and Dad stayed home. The Little Biped hasn't thrown up since Tuesday, but now says she has an earache. Tomorrow, she'll go to the doctor. I am hoping that this can't be passed on because I really don't want to be stuck laying on the couch all day with pillows, blankets, and dirty tissues... Wait a minute - that doesn't sound so bad! Well, maybe we will get the flu from the people.

Brook did throw up tonight.

Oh, and Canyon just sneezed....it's going to be a long weekend...

PawsAbilities

Here's pictures from yesterday's trip. Meadow and I got to go for a car ride to the PawsAbilities 2009 event. PawsAbilities is an annual fundraiser for Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD). SSD starts training puppies at 8 weeks old until they are 18 months to work with disabled persons as service dogs. They spend an average of $20,000 per dog for training. Mom and Dad went to the event to support the cause and to see a friend.

Here's the Little Biped saying hello to Biloxi. I heard he lived here last summer until he found his fur-ever home.

Biloxi was entered into the Clean Plate contest. He ate the dog treat, cheese and a few other items.

Here he's waiting patiently for the next food item to try.

"Oooh, what's this?" he says. Turns out this was cheese. The next food item, celery wasn't so appetizing and Biloxi was out of the competition.

Meadow tried the agility course. She did OK except for jumping the bars.

Next we took a look around the show and met lots of new dogs. Some of these dogs could have been mistaken for something much larger. I snuck up behind this monster and sniffed its butt carefully to see what it was.

He turned around and Meadow jumped in to make sure I was OK.

As he came closer to see who we were, we both turned and ran. Not quite sure who he was, but he and his brother were both VERY big. We were told they were English Mastiffs later on.

What a busy day. We did make a few stops on the way home. The bipeds went to a place called Game Stop to buy some games for the Wii. Meadow and I decided to dump ice from Mom's drink on her car seat while they were in there. Then they stopped at a convienence store. They came out and sat at a picnic table right in front of the car so we could see them eat. The little biped had a hotdog, Mom had some kind of sandwich with lots of meat on it, and Dad had egg salad. It all looked very yummy, so we drooled on Mom's steering wheel for her. After all this fun, we passed out as seen in the last picture.

Road Trip!

I found out today that I'm going to get to go on a road trip tomorrow. Mom said it's not far but it's a car ride nonetheless! Mom, Dad and the little biped are excited about getting to see somepuppy named Biloxi. I don't know who this is but I wonder if he's cute. Do woo all know if he has a girlfriend yet???

Mom and Dad said we're going to some event in Harrisburg called Pawsabilities. It sounds like a lot of fun. Mom said it would be good for me to work on my socialization with people and other dogs. Biloxi's mom said she's entering him in the chow hound contest. I wonder how I can convince them to let me enter the contest???

In other news, Dad's been gone all week in Mississippi. This is the longest I've ever been away from dad and I really missed him.

"Yeah, Mom what do you want?"

"We're just sitting here watching for Dad"
