This past weekend we had our first “Cupid Crafting Party” at The Cottage! The event was free for our hotel guests and locals. We had a range of crafts to do for children of all ages; from making your special someone a Valentine’s Day Card or creating a special heart sun-catcher for your loved one, we had something for you! The guests who attended enjoyed crafting and playing on our castle playground.

We appreciate everyone who came to enjoy our first crafting party. We can’t wait to continue these in the future! Next month we will be having a St. Patrick’s Day Crafting Party and a Dr. Suess Storytelling event. Join us next Sunday, March 6th at 1 pm for the Dr. Suess Reading event at The Cottage and on March 12th at 1 pm for the St. Patrick’s Day Crafting Party; we hope to see y’all there!

The cocktail is named after Martha Gellhorn, she was a seasoned war correspondent. She was also the third wife of Ernest Hemingway. They were together during his time in Cuba.

The Royal Holiday Celebration will include signature holiday events along with festive, family-friendly activities throughout the month of December. The celebration begins on Thanksgiving Day with the debut of a larger-than-life and handsomely decorated Christmas tree in the grand lobby. The King and Prince welcomes resort guests and local residents with southern hospitality to savor the season on St. Simons Island.

Teddy Bear Tea

The King and Prince will host two Teddy Bear Tea events this holiday season, an annual tradition where children are invited for a holiday tea party and storytime with Santa Claus. Each child will receive a plush stuffed animal upon arrival to keep as their own. This ticketed event features an assortment of festive treats and refreshments. Please note all children must be accompanied by an adult. Teddy Bear Tea will be held on Saturday, December 4, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and Saturday, December 18, 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Registration is required in advance via Eventbrite. Fireside Stories with Santa

On two separate evenings this December, Santa Claus will share Christmas stories fireside at The King and Prince. Cozy up with an expertly made hot chocolate as Old Saint Nick reads a classic holiday novel. This family-friendly event will be hosted outside at The Cottage Custard + Coffee shop on Thursday, December 2 and again on Tuesday, December 21 inside the resort’s grand lobby, both events in the evening from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Fireside Stories with Santa events are open to the public at no charge.

Paint with Santa

On Sunday, December 5, 2:00 – 5:30 p.m. The King and Prince will partner with local pottery and art studio, The Tinted Tide for an ornament-making and handprint cookie plate workshop. Santa Claus will welcome guests with holiday storytelling before the painting begins. Attendees will create personalized holiday ceramics to adorn their homes for years to come. Hot chocolate and tasty treats will be provided.

This holiday crafting event is a great opportunity to gather family members of all ages. Tickets start at $36 per child and include all craft materials and plate firing post-event. Tickets can be purchased in advance by clicking this link.

Christmas Caroling

Local school choirs and music students will present Christmas Caroling in The King and Prince Resort’s grand lobby throughout the month of December. Enjoy the sounds of the season among beautifully decorated fresh-cut evergreen trees and stunning holiday décor. Complimentary and delectably cozy refreshments like hot chocolate, Christmas tea, and a mixed array of sweet treats will be provided. Frederica Academy performs on Tuesday, December 7, Oglethorpe Point Elementary on Thursday, December 15, and St. Simons Elementary on Thursday, December 16. All performances are held from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Christmas Caroling events are open to the public at no charge.

The Pecan Milk Punch is the perfect dessert cocktail to cozy up by the fire with! Whether you make this at home or you come and join us at Echo, we hope you enjoy this delicious cocktail. 

Mama always said, “drink your milk!”. But with sugar, bourbon and a divine pecan syrup. This cocktail is served frozen. 

A few scoops of vanilla ice cream, a cup of bourbon, and a few dashes of pecan syrup. Mix in a blender and top with candied pecans and nutmeg.

How to make the Pecan Simple Syrup…

• 1.25 cups water
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1/2 cup pecans

Bring water to a boil. Stir in brown sugar and Pecans. Turn down to the lowest setting. Simmer for 25 minutes. Let cool, then fine strain out the pecans.

1. Treat yourself to some coffee from The Cottage and take a nice morning walk on the beach to start your day off right.

2. If you like yoga, we highly recommend attending a class at East Beach Yoga! It is the perfect way to unwind and focus on yourself.

3. After you are done with yoga, we recommend you head down to The Pier Village and hit up some of the stores! Self-care means treating yourself, right?

4. If you want to skip yoga and the stores all together, you can go spend the day at The Island Day Spa. It is just a short drive off property.

5. A good book by the ocean is another great way to relax and get daily stressors off your mind.

6. If you like nature and love outdoor activities, we recommend checking out Ocean Motion for a variety of activities. They offer kayaking tours, paddle boarding lessons and bike rentals.

7. Last but not least, enjoy the day just laying by the pool or the beach to relax.

While packing for a beach vacation can be hectic, we figured we could make your lives a little easier by compiling a list of must have items that will make your vacation even better.

Outdoor Cart:

Whether you are coming to the beach with children, your furry friend (yes, we are pet friendly) , or a day by yourself; the outdoor carts make life a lot more convenient. Utilizing a cart allows you to transport everything you need for a fun day at the beach in one convenient trip.

Insulated Cooler Bag:

Insulated cooler bags are a good alternative to traditional coolers which are much larger and can be more difficult to carry. Cooler bags make it easier to bring drinks and snacks to the beach.

Beach Tent/Umbrella:

You always need a little shade to hide from that hot South East Georgia sun! Don’t worry, if you are flying here and can’t bring a tent or umbrella, you can rent one from Barry’s Beach Service.

Waterproof Tote:

A big tote is always important to bring to the beach, but a  waterproof tote is even better. You can keep all your items in one bag without the worry of it getting wet! These bags are lightweight and easy to clean as well.  No need to worry about getting sand inside, as you can easily rinse these out after a day at the beach!

We have added an exciting new addition to our property! The Cottage Custard + Coffee first opened its doors this past April. It offers a lot of yummy snacks such as pastries, custard, and delicious coffee! We receive our coffee beans from St. Simons Island’s own Wake Up Coffee Co. They have created a special blend of coffee just for us, so if you love it as much as we do, you can purchase a bag of our blend at The Cottage. Not only is it a place to eat delicious custard, and pastries, but it is also a gift shop as well. The gift shop offers a wide variety of clothing and other King and Prince Resort goodies you can take home as gifts! The Cottage is the perfect place to stop for a treat or bring the kids to play on our castle playground! Parents can sit and enjoy time by the fire while the kids enjoy playing in the castle.

But wait….. We added something else!

The newest addition to our Cottage is a mural!  The mural was painted this summer by artist Juliana Lupacchino, also known as, Julu. She is a local artist from Savannah and has been coming to The King & Prince with her family for years. Julu’s style has brought some vibrant patterns and color to our property. For starters, ideal short getaways don’t take all day to reach. Anything more than a half day car ride is guaranteed to dampen the enthusiasm of all concerned.  Of course one way to select the family vacation spot is to open the floor for discussion. But a more efficient option is to narrow the choices and let the younger set weigh in and help decide between two or three choices. The legendary “Golden Isles” in the South include, Jekyll Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island, and St. Simons Island —  a long time favorite with easy access from major highways from Atlanta and the Carolinas to the north and south to Jacksonville.  For the ultimate convenience, a St. Simons Island getaway delivers everything a family could want in a compact footprint that means less time driving and more time relaxing.

Pre-planning an itinerary can really stretch the impact of your stay.  A few weeks before you plan to leave, gather input from everyone early. Many families find involving kids and parents alike in a planning meeting helps build the excitement. Sure, it’s possible to get a lot done by using smartphones. But this is one of those times when a good old fashioned road atlas will prove useful.  Young children enjoy seeing on the map exactly where you live, as well as the planned route for your weekend away.
