It's almost Father's Day! Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there!

Back on Mother's Day I posted Mom's 16 Sweet Treat Favorites ... so in honor of Father's Day, I decided to give Dad his equal time! Here are my Dad's favorite dishes on The Kitchen is My Playground. Now Mom shared 16 ... and Dad's sharing 21. So, I guess 'the time' is not exactly equal since Dad's getting to share a few more faves. But oh well, I don't think Mom will mind.

It's officially summer for me! I finished up in my classroom today, and am now footloose-and-fancy-free for the summer. Yay! I don't have all my summer adventures figured out yet ... but I'll get 'em figured out soon, I'm sure. And I'm sure some of those adventures will include a cookout or two! Oh, I'm sure you're thinking hot dogs ... or hamburgers ... or a nice juicy steak. But when I think summer cookout, I think pasta salad. Yes, pasta salad. I'm all about the sides! And this no-mayo Antipasto Pasta Salad is one of our cookout absolute favorites.

If your child's teacher is at all like me, she or he probably said something about keeping your child reading, writing, and doing a little math over the summer, right? {And if she or he didn't ... consider this to be me saying it for them now!}

I treated myself this weekend. Yes, I treated myself to one of my absolute, absolute favorite treats ... fresh-picked strawberries. Not strawberries from the grocery store ~ strawberries fresh from the local fields! When it comes to berries, there's just nothing better.

And then I came home and treated myself some more ... with scrumptious strawberry cobbler. Made with those sweet, juicy, fresh-from-the-field strawberries. Sooooo good ... and soooooooo easy.

So you've heard of a trifle, right? Well, what about a punch bowl cake? Your familiarity with this term probably depends upon where you live!

In the South, we call these beautifully layered, absolutely creamily delicious desserts punch bowl cakes ... layers of cake pieces, fresh fruit, and something-yummily-creamy all piled together in a gorgeous glass bowl ... yum. The glass bowl, of course, just so happens to quite frequently double as a punch bowl ... and you guessed it, that's how these cakes got their name.

My 1st grade class has been cooking again! Well, maybe we should make that assembling ... not exactly cooking. Assembling Soil Property Pudding Cups, to be exact. I know, I know ... most people call these Dirt Pudding Cups. But I tweaked them to make them go along with our soil property science unit ... so Soil Property Pudding Cups is what these are!

I just love it when a cooking with kids project brings together what we've been learning ... relating content to food is fun and really cements information in students' minds. And that's just what we did with the different soil types with these super fun Soil Property Pudding Cups!

Okay, these Barbecue Roasted Mixed Nuts ROCK! I absolutely love barbecue potato chips. I mean, like could totally lick the inside of the chip bag kind of love ... but as I say in random fact #11 on my {About Me} page, I can't be left alone with a bag of chips. It's detrimental ... to both me and the chips. Well, I've discovered with these Barbecue Roasted Mixed Nuts, you can get that same great barbecue flavor without the potato chip guilt. It's almost strawberry season in my neck of the woods! And I. Can't. Wait. I absolutely love fresh-from-the-field strawberries, eating most of them 'straight-up.' Just a quick little rinse ... and then a big ol' bite into the sweet, juicy goodness. Yes, my favorite way to enjoy strawberries.

My husband recently asked me to make him stuffed peppers. Hmmmm, I have to admit I wasn't thrilled with this request. See, I've never really been a stuffed peppers fan ... you know, the typical green bell pepper stuffed with rice-mixed-with-something and smothered with tomato sauce? ... it's just not my thing. So, I've recently started doing Zumba. Yup. And I don't really like to exercise, so that's a big deal.

Seriously, it's totally amazing for me. 'Cause exercise is truly just not my thing. But, alas, sometimes we just need to do things that are good for us, like it or not. So I took the plunge into Zumba, and much to my surprise, I actually even like it!

One big help? ... MUSIC! I love music, so the fun up-tempo songs keep me motivated and movin'. You'll crack up at what my favorite Zumba song so far is, though ...

Happy day after Easter and April Fool's Day and Spring Break day {at least for me}, all in the same day everyone! Mark and I just got back from spending Easter weekend 'home' with our families. We had a very nice and relaxing weekend ... Mark got to spend time doing two of the things he loves best - working with our bees and working with his tractor. I got to do two of the things I love best - be Mark's assistant beekeeper and hang out cooking with my Mom. Good times.
