Because I set a goal for myself that was a little bit of a stretch, and I achieved that goal. A couple of times I thought I might bale, but the bigger, better, and greater part of me decided that I must press on...and press on I did.

I once heard Russell Simmons, a very successful man, say that people don't usually fail they simply quit. I might add that there are a lot of talented people (and a lot more people who could be talented) who don't lack ability they lack stamina. The universe knows the difference between wishful thinking and dedication. Dedication will make you stay up late at night, in a hot studio working on songs. Dedication will make you call those last twenty names on your list. Dedication will make you do things wishful thinkers will not do...and the universe knows the difference.

Success really is fairly simple. If you do enough of the right things you will succeed. Many of us know the right things, we just fail to do them enough. We can know we have done enough when success is the result. How long do you try? You try until it's done.

In the meantime I want to tell you the necessary building blocks are small victories. If you put enough of them together you will achieve wonderful things. More importantly you will feel good about yourself. When you feel good about yourself it will give you the energy you need to go a little further. The further you go the closer ultimate victory is.

So, I am a couple of steps closer, and I must say it feels really good to say I'm going to do something that matters to me, and then get it done. I can get use to feeling this high...so high I can kiss the sky. Come on up and join me...it's beautiful up here.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

You Are Not The Boss Of Me

I am BAAAAACK!!!

That's right you are not the boss of me...the you being the Government. We are living in difficult times. Ridiculous gas prices that affect the cost of damn near everything else are making people feel victimized. As I talk to people about the economy, politics, and what not, folks invariably say 'Oh well...there's nothing we can do'. They think that politicians are always going to look out for themselves at the expense of the people they are supposed to serve...that's right SERVE!

I see things differently (there's a surprise). I think things should and CAN be exactly as they were intended to be. The United States of America is a democracy (at least it was). Rule of the people, by the people and for the people. Over many many decades we as a people have willingly surrendered our power. We let politicians create laws and policies that serve their own narrow interests. We let them spend this country into a black hole of debt. We let them take us into an immoral war in Iraq, and we let them refuse to do SOMETHING to restrain the price of fuel.

Our elected officials have no respect for us for the same reason that an abusive husband has no respect for the wife he brutalizes...we let them do it. As long as we are apathetic, as long as we feel there is nothing we can do, as long as we refuse to get involved...our elected officials will continue to abuse and neglect us.

Now I can't lie...I've only written complaints to a politician a couple of times so this smack down is just as much for me as it is for most Americans. GET OFF YOUR BEHINDS AND DO SOMETHING!!!!! If you are not happy with the state of affairs write to your congressman or senator. Go to a town hall meeting and let your will be known. VOTE!!! Talk to your friends and neighbors about empowerment rather than mass victimization. We defeated the mighty British Empire...What happened to us??? We got intellectually fat, lazy, and pitiful!

But we can change. The government is not our boss...I am the boss and you are the boss. Want lower gas prices demand it. Do you hate the pettiness of political campaigns? Write to that person and tell them they are going to loose their job if they don't cut the crap and do the work of the people. We are the captains of our own destinies. The politicians are the deck hands that we hire to cut bait and swab the decks.

Stop thinking that you have no choice...it simply is not true. You are the boss.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

We Done Good

Well...it's 11:25 PM June 3, 2008...a historical date. Tonight Senator Barack Obama became the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States of America. B-A-R-A-C-K O-B-A-M-A Are you kidding??? Oh my God!!! I'm very excited but more importantly I'm very proud. Not just because my guy won, but because we as a country accomplished something grand.

Regardless of party affiliation a loud and wonderful statement was made. We have come closer to the realization of MLK's Dream of a world where color is no longer an impediment. Even if Barack doesn't win the presidency we as a country won. We as a people decided that the "content of our character" is what matters beyond all else.

There is a lot more to be done to heal race relations in this country. For some of you it may be surprising to hear that racism is still alive and kicking...well SURPRISE!!! But tonight when the magic number of 2,118 was surpassed by Senator Obama I felt proud, and you should too.

Now comes the real battle. There will be harsh things said, and a lot of feelings will be hurt. The unity many see right now will soon melt away. But tonight, we done good.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

The Law of Attraction

Warning!!!!
Please don't read this post while you're eating....(I'm just saying) So anyways...nature called and I had to answer. By day I'm a mild mannered (yeah right) tile contractor. I've been in this business for around twenty three or twenty four years, and I've used the 'facilities' on a number of occasions. But never has it been like this.

It was around 1 p.m. and my lunch was trying to makes it's presence felt. Lunch has a way of making it's point regardless of what you might think about it. My stomach was making every kind of sound imaginable. For a minute I thought I was in Jurassic Park. I fought the good fight...and lost...I had to go.

So...off I went to the dreaded 'Port-O-Let'. I try to never use them, but what I want rarely seems to matter during times like these. The dinosaur sounds my belly was making literally 'moved' me to handle my biz. So I lift up the lid and 'Thank God' it looks like the 'John' had just been cleaned, and I'd be the first to soil it. (If you have to do soiling...it's always best if you're the first one in.)

So I'm sitting there, with my t-shirt over my mouth and nose (I don't know if it helps, but it makes me feel better). For whatever reason I think to myself, 'In all the years I've been a contractor using 'Port-O-Lets' I've never been splashed. Two seconds later the first bomb drops and...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I got splashed. DAMN!!!

My first thought was 'Am I sure I was the first one in?' Was the splash a pure splash? Or, was I sharing unimaginable waste with the carpenters, siding guys, plumber, AND electrician? Oh my God...what does that deep blue water do to innocent buttocks? I'm soooo afraid.

So kids...The moral of the story is this...remember that the 'Law of Attraction" is powerful and non-discriminatory. Never think about splashing of any kind when you're sitting on a Port-O-Let.

Stay Dry and Fly High!

KLH

So Where Are You From?

So...I'm up in Rhode Island doing a very fancy tile job for a lovely couple in a VERY lovely summer home...yep. The lady of the house makes us a fantastic lunch of pasta with homemade sauce, fresh salad, a nice thick grilled steak, and a very nice red wine...I believe it was a cabernet...but at the end of the day it's all red to me!!! Anyways...we're having a great conversation when I'm asked a very (what I consider to be odd) question: "So Ken, where are you from?"

Let me fill in a couple of blanks for you, this lovely couple is from Italy...both of them born over there. I am African American...as far as I know. That is the dilemma 'as far as I know'. I want to be clear the question was not in anyway out of line or rude, not in anyway. However the question struck me as quite odd because to me it's obvious that I'm African American. I have a very dark complexion and have course curly hair, that makes me African American right?

So my response to the question "Where are you from?" is "I'm African American"..."but where are you from?" they asked again, to which I replied "Africa". In my mind I felt uncomfortable because the fact of the matter is I don't REALLY know where I am from. This is a problem that is quite unique here in America.

ALMOST everyone here in America knows where they are from. Italian, Irish, Albanian, French, Puerto Rican, Mexican, etc. I think the couple I was dining with assumed that I, like them, and most Americans, knew exactly where my heritage came from. They were asking an innocent question. The problem is that I and almost all African Americans have no idea what country we are from. Most of us say we're African American only because of the color of our skin and not because we have any idea whatsoever where our country of origin is.

I think that most "black folks" generally don't think about it. As for me when I do...it hurts. The legacy of America's 'Original Sin', the institution of slavery, is countless people with no roots. Countless people who can only feel in a superficial way any ethnic pride. Countless people who have a wonderful, colorful, and rich history that is beyond their reach.

Slavery has long since been abolished so why do many African Americans still have a chip on their shoulder? Maybe...just maybe because when somebody asks us "Where are you from?' we don't have a good answer. Perhaps you can understand why that makes me sad.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

Those Ads You See at the Top

The ads at the top of my page are not generated by me. Apparently Google scans my blog for content and then puts an ad that is the exact opposite of what I think and believe. Lucky me.

Just thought you should know.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

Blue Collar White Workers

The pundits are forcing my hand! There has been all this talk in the democratic political world, about 'white blue collar workers'. All the pundits are asking each other "Why is Hillary getting all their votes and Barack can't seem to connect to them?" They say that without these critical swing voters that Barack will have a very hard time winning a general election. They say that "Barack is too high minded and he's an elitist, that's why he can't connect. Hillary talks their language...she's one on them."

Yep...she is one of them. She's no 'blue collar worker' but she is damn sure white. Not that there is anything wrong with that. In fact some of my best friends are white. (I always wanted to say that.) Hillary is white, and these 'blue collar workers' that have evaded Obama are white, I wonder if there is a connection....Hmmmm.

Now I am no racial conspiracy type, but I find it curious that all these smart pundits on the TV political shows, scratch their heads wondering what Obama's problem is and never think to have a serious discussion about the possibility that racial bias may be in play here.

They are quick to harshly criticize Jeremiah Wright for his racial comments, but don't have the guts to have real talk about the role of race and racism in this presidential election. I don't even necessarily think racism is the cause of the supposed disconnect between Obama and these 'white blue collar workers', maybe a lot of people still prefer people who look like them.

However, I am not dismissing the very real possibility that racism is the cause of the disconnect. Either way I think it's stupid that these 'smart' political experts won't even consider a real discussion about the role of race in the election. Even though they might not personally experience racial bias, let me assure you that herein America "Home of the Free" it is STILL very real.

So...maybe Obama never will win big numbers of these 'white blue collar workers', but let's at least have an honest discussion about why.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

News Flash, Rev. Wright Ain't Running!

Oh my God! I'm getting so bored with these idiot pundits who continue to make Barack Obama responsible for the statements of Rev. Jeremiah Wright. I heard Rick Sanchez on CNN ask an Obama supporter if Obama should have moved heaven and earth to prevent Rev. Wright from speaking at an NAACP event this evening. To Mr. Sanchez I want to remind you that Rev. Wright is a grown man with the right to say what he pleases.

Even if Obama could stop him he shouldn't because we have this thing here in America called free speech...perhaps you've heard of it???

I have a suggestion...why don't we measure these candidates by what THEY SAY, and not what an associate or friend or pastor said. To Rick Sanchez of CNN, you may be a great guy, but tonight you sounded stupid...just like all the other stupid pundits who think one man can be judged based on what another man says.

Let me remind all stupid people out there...Rev. Jeremiah Wright is not running for President. If he ever decides to run, then you will have your opportunity to rip him a new one. Until then...can we please talk about some important issues???

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

My Heart Cries For Sean Bell

I think most Americans at least want to believe in the justice system. We are taught that justice is blind and fair. We are taught that if you leave things in the able hands of Lady Justice that all will go well for you. America is itself fair and indeed just.

The truth of the matter is sometimes, America and it's justice system is anything but fair and just. The truth of the matter is that sometimes our justice system looks out for those with money, those with status, and those who have power. If you are Sean Bell's fiance, son or mother, the justice system doesn't give a damn about you. Not because you're black, but because you have no power.

Today the justice system in New York made it clear that, common sense, fairness, and value of human life mean nothing. The justice system in New York said loud and clear to the family of Sean Bell that they and their deceased son, husband to be, and father didn't matter. What did matter was that some hard working police officers made an honest mistake, and they are who we should be concerned about.

For anyone who doesn't know, Sean Bell was in a car with a couple of friends and got shot at 50 times by undercover cops without uniforms or standard police vehicles. Sean was killed. Oh...neither Sean or his friends were armed. The cops said they 'thought he had a gun'. So as confirmed by the New York justice system it turns out that just a thought and nothing else is enough justification for cops to unload 50 bullets into your vehicle. Why am I praying that any cop that pulls me over has no thoughts whatsoever?

So I guess it was all just a mistake. Hopefully that will comfort the young lady who Sean was about to marry later that day. Hopefully Sean's son can understand that the police thought his daddy had a gun so he had to die in a hail of gun fire. Hopefully Sean's mother will be OK with the fact that justice is a little too much to hope for when you're not in power...here in America...Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.

Today the police officers who killed Sean Bell an unarmed man who had committed no crime were cleared of all charges. If you empathize with those police officers, I wonder if it would be OK if your son was killed because cops 'thought' he had a gun...think about that.

The justice system of New York didn't care about Sean and his family...but for whatever it's worth...tonight my heart cries for Sean Bell. God Bless.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

The Pope and Jesus

The news this past week has been dominated by the visit of Pope Benedict. It has been quite interesting to see all the pomp and circumstance. My first instinct was to be repelled by all this lavishness, but then something else occurred to me. I let my bias against religion blind me from the fact that this pope does good in the world. I sometimes get carried away with myself and start to think that religious people especially religious leaders can be narrowly defined. The truth of the matter is they cannot.

The Pope (I have to admit I'd rather call him by his first or sir name) has been reaching out to leaders of other major religions and calling for peace and unity....that is always a good thing. The Pope has reached out in a big way to all the victims of sexual abuse at the hands of priests...and that is good. I'm no expert on Papal affairs, but I'm sure there are plenty of things he did that are quite noteworthy....However

When I was watching the Pope give a mass at St. Patrick's cathedral and saw him in this procession with all the fancy robes, carrying his Golden Staff, it occurred to me how far it has gotten away from Jesus Christ. The Pope lives in a spectacular palace like a king...literally. He reigns (according to his followers) 'infallibly' over billions of people. When Jesus died, there were literally a few people at his side. Jesus was a humble man. Jesus (check the bible if you like) never claimed to be infallible. Jesus was one of us. He ate with the down trodden, he lived meagerly, he had no possessions to speak of. He was one of us, and that was the beauty of it all. From where we were, he showed us what was possible. Jesus showed us what we could do, if we really believed.

Jesus never called for anyone to worship him (check the bible if you life), if he were alive I wonder what he would think of all this fervor. It's sad to me that in a world where so many people are suffering, a world religious leader could see fit to live in a castle and have throngs of people wait on him like servants. I heard that the Pope said that materialism is one of the new sins...Wow!

To be clear, I think it would be unfair to color the Pope one way. It is obvious that the Pope has done great things, my question is...at what cost?

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

Not Now But Right Now

All we have is right now. That is a simple elegant powerful truth. So often we get caught up in anything but 'the now'. I myself have thought about things that happened months or years ago, and gotten whipped up into a lather. I have imagined scenarios that never happened and gotten quite upset. I am sure that I am not alone. This (for lack of a better word) habit is paralyzing.

People who don't act out of fear are focused on anything but 'now'. Either they are reflecting on a past experience or imagining a future experience. The simple truth is the past is over and can never be redone. The future is just that the future. All anyone ever has is right here, right now. How does that benefit us?

First of all we can learn from the our own past experiences and those of others. However to attach ourselves to the past renders us incapable of acting in our own behalf right now. People who have been hurt in relationships often times make foolish choices in current relationships based on the past. The truth is right now, today, we can make new decisions that empower us. We can forgive and or forget hurtful things that have happened to us, not for the benefit of others but ourselves. Only when we are free from the chains of past hurt and disappointment can we put ourselves in the best possible position to live powerfully.

Second, many of us fixate on the future, fearing what might happen. In doing so we once again forget that all we have is right now. RIght now we are here, we are alive, and able to act. The future is always determined by what we do right now. The only way a nail can penetrate a board is by hitting it with a hammer right now. The fact that you might strike the nail tomorrow doesn't get the job done today. Again, fear is based on past experience or a future we have imagined. I would suggest that since all we can do is imagine future experiences, that we should imagine a future that empowers us.

We all have the power at any given moment to focus on all we have right now. We can make a choice that truly serves our best interest. Right now, you are as powerful as anyone who has ever been, or who will ever be. Use that power carefully and use it well.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

A Giant Among Men

April 4, 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of one of the greatest Americans to ever live, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We all know about him, but often our knowledge is relegated to a few famous sound bites. The simple truth is that MLK was a revolutionary. He was an idea who's time had come. He had the intellect, eloquence and courage necessary to lead this nation to a better place. Through his powerful words and willingness to face persecution, over twenty arrests and even his own death he forced America live up to it's claim.

Having studied the teachings of Jesus Christ, and the non-violent revolution of Gandhi in India MLK lead a movement whose rightfulness could not be denied. MLK knew that a call to arms would only end in bloodshed and defeat. He called the nonviolent freedom movement a 'magnificent militancy', and that it was. The stark pictures of women and children being beaten by brutal police, fire hoses and dogs being let lose on innocent peaceful protesters, sparked the conscience of America. The power of those images along with the sound track of King's spine tingling oratory moved our country to act.

King made it clear that freedom and equality wasn't doing a favor for black folk. Freedom and equality made America itself better, and stronger, and morally right. Though MLK is known for his beautiful words of love and peace he didn't mince words when it came to telling it like it was. King in one speech condemning the Vietnam War called America 'the greatest purveyor of violence in the world'. He told the truth exactly how he saw it, even when it wasn't popular.

MLK was a man of courage, a man of vision, a man of contradictions, he was a man with flaws. But when you 'run the numbers' on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. it cannot be denied that he was indeed a Giant Among Men.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

I Feel So Alone...

I feel so alone...have you ever said that? If you haven't count yourself as one of the fortunate few. I would venture to say that most people at one point or another have felt utterly alone. Many people may wonder why God has allowed them to feel this way...I think I may have an answer.

I think that this whole "human experiment" is like a boomerang that God threw out into the universe. When you throw a boomerang just right it will fly out into the sky and right back to where it began. We are children of God...we are a part of God. When the boomerang was thrown we moved away from God.

We are now seeing the results of decisions made removed from God...removed from our own divine essence. We are allowed to make our own choices, and every choice of every human being that ever lived is a critical part of "The Great Boomerang Toss". Every misstep ultimately will illuminate a path back to our divine origin.

Are you with me so far???

You may be wondering what this has to do with feeling lonely, or being alone. I believe there is value in loneliness. When we are alone we have an opportunity to recognize the frailty of putting our sense of self... in other people. No one will always be in the same space of recognition or reality as we are. There is a different reality for every person.

Loneliness forces us to turn inward. How we see the world is exactly what the world is for us....that is reality. Love, acceptance, security all start within us. If we don't feel lovable, acceptable, and 'secure-able' there is nothing anyone can do to fill that void.

Loneliness gives us the opportunity to get in touch with the divinity that is within us. Loneliness removes external distractions, and with those distractions gone we can be who we really are...a perfect and complete part of God. When we make that connection, the 'Boomerang Toss' is completed. We are a part of God. Really....we are never alone.

....I feel better already.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

Oh...I meant to say wife's desire

That's what Hillary should have said, rather than sniper's fire. I don't know why I'm amazed, but I am. This woman seems to have no shame whatsoever. It seems to me, that if you actually were taking on sniper fire you would absolutely remember it. It seems just as certain that if you never took on sniper fire, you could not possibly think that you did.

None of Mrs. Clinton's surrogates had the integrity to say it, but I do...Hillary told a flat out lie. The only reason she's saying she misspoke is because there are plenty of people who were on the trip in question who all say there was no sniper fire. Additionally there is news video of her arrival in Bosnia that proves she was never in danger from sniper fire.

With the release of many of her documents from her time as First Lady, there are more questions about her claims of having the experience to "lead on day one'. Apparently most of her experience is hosting the wives of foreign dignitaries and serving tea and crumpets...oh, she failed to put together a universal health care plan as well.

Anyways....I have some advice for you Mrs. Clinton...the next time you claim you took on sniper fire, make sure you don't have a plane full of people who know you didn't. Better yet you can have a movie studio stage an ambush...Oh I forgot Clinton's don't like Bush.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

I heard that!!!

This race thing really has legs, as they say in the news biz. With those legs the story about Barack Obama's pastor has runaway and taken on a life of it's own. First of all let me say that what Rev. Wright said was horrible. His remarks about the 9-11 tragedy made 5 days after the event were not just ill advised but just ill. With that said Rev. Wright made the comments not Barack Obama.

Many political pundits seem determined to keep this story alive and joined at the hip to Mr. Obama. None of these pundits were as determined to join Geraldine Ferraro's comments to Hillary Clinton. There is clearly a double standard in full affect.

So in this heated racial climate Mr. Obama delivered a stunning speech first to condemn the comments of his pastor and to address the very real racial divide in this country. Barack was very even handed in his empathy for the angers and frustrations of both black and white folk here in America. He called on America to rise to the challenge of talking about these very important matters with each other. He suggested that the only way to "perfect our union" is to come together, and find a way we can all realize the promise of America.

But that wasn't enough for Pat Buchannan. I don't know this to be a fact, but I feel safe in assuming Mr. Buchannan has a white hood with eye holes cut into it, in a dry cleaners bag in his closet. When I was listening to his bigoted rhetoric just recently I had an epiphany. He has just as much right to air his grievances as I do. That doesn't mean I agree with what he has to say, because I don't. However I think the beginning of healing between the races is listening with open minds and hearts to those with whom we disagree. Listening to things that are hard to listen too will eventually allow the dust to settle...and when that dust does settle I believe we'll find that we all want the same things. Safety and security, good job opportunities, education for our kids, and freedom to worship how we please, or not. We as Americans can and should have all of that. No one needs to be excluded.

So to all you have to say Mr. Buchannan, I say "I heard that!"

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

The Race Card?

Geraldine Ferarro has not only put her foot in her mouth, she has managed to put her hands and elbows in there as well. Now I haven't heard the entire interview but I heard enough. I heard enough to know that not only has she played the race card, but she stacked the whole deck full of race cards.

For those who don't know, this former U.S. Congresswoman and Vice Presidential candidate said that the only reason that Barack Obama has been so successful is because he is black. She continued 'if he was white or a woman he wouldn't be where he is. He's lucky he is who he is'. When she was asked again to clarify her point, she dug the hole deeper and said she was complimenting him, and that it was she who was being wronged by being called racist.

I'm not ready to call Ms. Ferraro a racist, but I think she is fully qualified to be a hot flaming idiot. News Flash to Ms. Ferraro -unless you're a basketball player or gangsta rapper being black in America is ALWAYS a challenge at best. Despite the wonderful advances made regarding the civil rights of African Americans racism still abounds in The Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.

I think the intent of Ms. Ferraro was more insidious than outright racism. I think she wanted to plant fear in the feeble minds of a few stupid people who just happen to be white, that a black man is about to get the ultimate affirmative action job...the presidency of the United States...so you better vote for Hillary Clinton.

Hear is your reality check Ms. Geraldine Ferraro...Barack Obama is not where he is because he is black, but in spite of his being black. I have a suggestion for you Ms. Ferraro...the next time you're feeling idiotic keep your rotten words to yourself. Decent people don't want to hear that garbage. What an embarrassment you are to the Democratic Party and to good people everywhere. Shame on you.

Maybe you and Pat Buchanan can go and sew some white sheets together and reminisce about the good old days.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

Yep...I am back, I am mad...hear me roar?

I don't intend to complain so often, it's just that people are always giving me material. So... And...if that is the case I'll begin speaking Swahili." He replied that would be fine and he'd send my check to Africa. I have to admit it was a good comeback. However truth of the mattter is I am being held to a higher standard because I'm an english speaker. ( I know that sounds funny)

Shortly after that mess...two guys (non-hispanic) are standing in the doorway watching me perform ceramic tile magic, and speaking to each other...and OF COURSE THEY ARE NOT SPEAKING ENGLISH!!!!! I don't know...maybe it's me. Am I in the freaking international twilight zone?

So then I call my cell phone company to pay my bill over the phone. Some Robot chick named Jessica (literally a robot chick) says "Thank you for calling T-Mobil press one for english". That's it...I'm moving to England...'do they speak english there?'

I know that America is a melting pot, but it seems as though the only ting that is melting, is the english language. I think it is disrespectful for people to come here from other countries and marginalize the official language of the land...and that language is english.

I've heard people say they think that kids should be taught spanish in addition to english in school...

The whole country is going loco....I mean CRAZY!!!

Stay Fly and Fly High

KLH

Now you know damn well...

Hello...First of all a quick pet peeve. I went to Lowes to buy some things and the cashier who was a nice lady...had trouble opening a plastic bag to put my merchandise in. So what does she do? She does what any nasty person would do...she licks her fingers to assist her in opening that pesky bag. However she didn't use enough spit, so she licked her fingers again. THAT wasn't enough either so one more glob of spit was applied to the bag from hell. Thank goodness the third glob did the trick because I was about to vomit right on her cash register.

I hope the new president can do something to stem the tide of nasty people in this country. To me this issue is far more important that the immigration issue. Anyways...

I have heard a couple of the political pundits on TV, Tucker Carlson is one of them...ask... 'Why does Barack Obama keep saying he is Christian, and that he prays to Jesus?' It's amazing how a clearly smart person can ask such a clearly stupid question. My answer to anyone wondering is this: Now you know DAMN well that the only reason Barack keeps addressing this issue is because race baiting dirt bags have been spreading the lie the Senator Obama is a Muslim.

The reason they are saying this is to plant the idea in the minds of jack-asses that Mr. Obama is a terrorist or a terrorist sympathizer. The intent of these lies and the publishing of pictures of Barack in Africa wearing tradition garb is to scare feeble minded people into thinking America is being infiltrated by the "enemy".

This past Sunday on 60 Minutes a Ohio voter said he liked Mr. Obama but was concerned about his beliefs...when pressed he said he heard that Senator Obama was a Muslim and that he was sworn into office using the Koran and not a bible. It's because of this kind of misinformation that Mr. Obama continues to proclaim his Christianity.

For me I think his religion doesn't matter. But for a lot of people it does. I think that is a really sad commentary on where we are in this country...still. I need a drink.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

I'll have mine without the spit please

Oh my God...I just want to do MY thing, I really don't want to be in someone else's business. I would rather be writing about anything other than pet peeves. BUT NO...some people justwant to aggravate me...so here goes another gripe.

First of all just yesterday I decided that I was going to go get a couple of bagels from the best bagel joint in town. I had been looking forward to these delectable treats for days. Despite knowing that this trip across town would throw off my very tight morning schedule I decided to get my bagels. So off we go...

I went into the store and the bagel lady took my order...as I waited my mouth watered in anticipation. One french toast and one sesame seed, both with extra butter...Mmmm. At the other side of the counter a very friendly man who I believe is the owner was talking to his friends and I heard him sneeze. Then I heard him sneeze again, so I looked. Then he went to sneeze again and to my HORROR he sneezed in his hand. (If you don't see where this is going, with all due respect you are part of the problem.)

Now a few more people come into the store and Mr. Sneezy decides he's going to help the bagel lady. So I say to myself..actually it was closer to a prayer...PLEASE don't let Mr. Sneezy butter my bagels...my beautiful crunchy but chewy inside bagels. But my inner pleading wasn't enough to stop Mr. Sneezy. He took my bagels out of the toaster and buttered them. DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!!

I had already paid for them, but that was the least of it. I knew I didn't want to say anything, because people don't usually respond well to being told they are nasty disgusting pigs. So I did what any self disrespecting bagel lover would do...I took my bagels walked out the store and through them on the floor of my truck. It may be an over reaction but I was distraught. Suffice it to say I will NEVER buy those bagels again.

So now I didn't have my beloved bagels and I missed the window of opportunity to miss the morning traffic. I went over to Dunkin Donuts and got a coffee and a very unimpressive muffin. Let me just say this to everyone who didn't know...TAKING A SHOWER IN THE MORNING DOESN'T KEEP YOU HANDS CLEAN ALL DAY. Also when you serve food or drinks it is disgusting to sneeze or cough in your hand, to blow your nose, run your fingers through your silky hair and then serve some one a damn bagel.

WASH YOUR HANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

Yep...more pet peeves

Before you even say it, I already know I'm picky, finicky, fussy, and judgemental. With that concession in place I have to air some more pet peeves. The reason I do this is two fold, for one if I don't say what I think and feel, I'll pop , that would be very, very ugly. The second reason is I believe I'm not the only one who has these pet peeves. Most people have the good sense to keep it to themselves. I however feel compelled to save the world from PPP's (Pet Peeve Provokers).

So...here we go.

People who whistle excessively. Excessive means more than a few notes once or twice a month. People who whistle entire songs in public should have their lips glued together. Who ever suggested that whistling while you work is pleasant is a freakin' communist.

People who repeat a thought over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and...it's aggravating right? Say it once, perhaps twice for emphasis, after that you being unkind.

Example: If I tell you I want an apple, and you reply 'Oh...you want an apple?', then you my friend, are mentally challenged.

Drunk people. If you are drunk please don't talk to me...except to ask me to call you a cab. Drunk people are not funny, and getting drunk is not cool. Drunk people act stupid...and if you think that's cool or funny, I feel bad for you son.

Weak hand shakes. Your hand shake is a direct measure of the caliber of man or woman you are. If you have a flaccid handshake, you are projecting a very strong loser energy. If it's all the same to you...I just as soon nod my head to greet you and avoid your wimpy handshake.

Men who act like women...and a close second to that is women who act like men. If I felt compelled to cluck like a chicken, I'd be medicated, so why has it become socially acceptable for men to act like chicks? I think adults have the right to do as they please, but when we do things publicly we can expect public opinion to be incited. That little Noriega boy on American Idol...needs take off those low rider jeans, get some testosterone therapy and go sit down some where. The little girly thing he has going on is gross...I'm just sayin'

Whew!!! I know I can come across kind of harsh from time to time...but if people can do things that aggravate me...I think it's my right as an American to say "Hey...I'm Aggravated!!!"

Stay Fly and Fly High!!

KLH

Why do we hate poor roaches?

Damn...some bugs just can't catch a break. The other day I was working in the kitchen of a restaurant(I won't say which one), and I saw something across the room on the tile I had just installed. For some reason even though it was a small speck it caught my attention, so I walked over to investigate. Low and behold it was a cockroach...AHHHHH!!!!

I couldn't stand the thought of that roach crawling up into any of my tools over night, so I hunted down that damn roach. I was on a mission to destroy it. I think roaches know when they are in mortal danger. First they play possum and just freeze. (I wonder if this trick has ever saved even one roach life...Hmmm) Anyways...The next thing they do if you continue to pursue them is to flee...and boy are they fast...I'm thinking they might be the fastest bug there is.

So...I eventually cornered that rotten roach and smashed it. I felt a strange satisfaction over my conquest. As I was driving home I was feeling really grossed out that there was a roach in a restaurant kitchen. Then the question occurred to me 'Why do we hate roaches so much?' I told a couple of people about the roach and they were as grossed out as I was...But why???

If that was an ant, would I still be grossed out? Certainly not. I've never heard anyone tell me an ant story. What if I killed a single fly...would any one care? Probably not. For some mysterious reason people have an unexplainable aversion to cockroaches. Could it be prejudice against 'brown bugs'? Well, I would think that the 'black' ant would be even lower on the 'prejudicial bug totem pole'. (This is a comedy piece don't be so sensitive) Could it be that because roaches like garbage we feel they are dirty bugs? Well, ants like garbage too. Yellow jackets like garbage as well.

So...in this historic time when we have a black presidential candidate, trying to bring us all together, perhaps this is the time for tolerance, and unity. I would like to suggest a change of heart, perhaps even a holiday...'Be Kind to a Roach Day'. It has a nice ring doesn't it?

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

Good morning, may I help you?

I may be showing my age, but I remember when I was always greeted that way when I walked up to a clerk in a store. People 'back then' were trained to be polite, pleasant, and helpful. I remember you actually had to qualify to get such a job. Stores wouldn't let just anybody represent their business.

Well...that's all gone to hell. It seems as though stores will give clerk positions to anybody who will take the job. I can't tell you how many times I've walked up to a clerk or cashier who wouldn't even look up at me. Often times they won't even say "That will be $9.76 please". They just stand there apparently unable to manage any words at all...they wait for me to look at the screen and give them the money.

Sometimes when I'm on my toes I'll stand there and look away...determined to make them say something to me even if it's just to tell me how much my damn 'Combo Number Two' is...(That'll learn em') Another pet peeve (some of you know I have a lot of them) is when they have to enter the amount you gave them so the register can tell them how much change to give back. So, not only can these kids not speak, they can't count...And another thing...if I hand you the money, HAND ME MY CHANGE...don't put it on the counter!

I have a thought...if you have no social skills or basic math aptitude, if you don't have the basic decency to look at a customer and give them a proper greeting, if the thought never even occurs to you to tell me how much my coffee costs...WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC IS NOT FOR YOU!!! Have a nice day. Oh...I hear Porta-Potty is hiring.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH

Legislative accomplishments of the past???

Oh damn! That's what they ask Obama supporters..."Can you name any legislative accomplishments of his from the past? I think that is such a corny irrelevant pop quiz question. Personally I don't know what Mrs. Clinton has done either...I know what she claims, but I don't know what she has done. Frankly I don't care.

What I do care about is what are you going to do for me and my country IF you become president. Most political commentators agree that both Hillary and Barack's policies are very similar. What is really strikingly different for me is the less tangible stuff. Hillary is always talking about what she has done...or to put it another way...the past. Barack wants to inspire us to be great. He wants to bring us all together. He is not bent on world supremacy, but on world unity.

The fact that Mr. Obama is comparatively younger and less experienced allows him to be more creative, less conformist, and more visionary. Some people think that Mr. Obama's lack of foreign policy experience is dangerous. They say his idea about talking to enemies is naive. But I think he is naive like a fox. (I know that's a mixed metaphor.) I think he knows that world peace can not be brought about by beating people over the head with our 'democracy stick'. World leaders will not be intimidated into doing things our way. They must be treated with respect, even if we don't agree with them.

Creativity, courage, vision, inspiration and yes, 'lofty rhetoric'...I'll take that over "past legislative accomplishments" any time.

Stay Fly and Stay High!

KLH

If not words then what?

Poor Hillary...she has raised being a 'hater' to a new level. Hillary is maybe an average speaker...her audiences respond to her in the way most audiences do...in an average way. Barack is an extraordinary speaker...his audiences are on fire. The audiences at an Obama event are caught up in a way that is rarely seen in politics. So because Hillary is not such a great speaker, and because she is jealous of Barack's superior oratory skills, she has resorted to saying "words are cheap".

To that claim I ask, if not words then what? Politicians don't manufacture anything. They don't physically fight any wars (they cowardly send other people to do it). Politicians don't take any actions other than to raise their hands for a vote on the floor, or to sign a document. Unless I'm missing something the ONLY tool a politician has is their words.

If that is indeed the case (of course it is) then Hillary is inferior to Barack politically speaking. Is this argument a stretch? Maybe. However I think it's not a stretch to suggest that Hillary Clinton is a 'hater' because she is a boring speaker. Personally I think that when a person can inspire through words as Barack Obama clearly can, they can move people to come together and get incredible things done.

So Mrs. Clinton, stop being so jealous and go to a Dale Carnegie class...maybe it's not to late to save your candidacy.

Stay Fly and Fly High!

KLH
