Breaking News: U.S. President Obama Speaks to OWYP School about the Importance of Global Learning
President Obama Speaks to a One World Youth Project School in Washington DC (Columbia Heights Educational Campus) about the Importance of Global Learning and 21st Century Skills:
“One thing I never want to see happen is schools that are just teaching the test because then you’re not learning about the world, you’re not learning about different cultures, you’re not learning about science, you’re not learning about math,” the president said. “All you’re learning about is how to fill out a little bubble on an exam and little tricks that you need to do in order to take a test and that’s not going to make education interesting.”

One World Youth Project embodies the type of global learning that Obama speaks about, by connecting middle and high classrooms globally and empowering students to teach one another about our changing world.

We are currently working with students from the Columbia Heights Educational Campus (CHEC) in a way that models Obama’s approach to global learning by linking CHEC classrooms with high school classrooms in Kosovo and Qatar via a four-unit curriculum that guides students through cultural exchange, global awareness, community mapping, and service-learning.

View The Use of Technology Tools in Linking OWYP Universities and Middle/High School Classrooms
Click this link or on the image below to see an exciting video one of our university partnerships, between Georgetown University in Washington DC, USA, and the University of Prishtina in Prishtina, Kosovo. Over the past year, students from these universities have been trained to lead a global education curriculum in local middle/high school classrooms, and to connect their classrooms with classrooms abroad via 21st century technology tools.

One World Youth Project is developing partnerships with universities worldwide for both the 2011/2012 and the 2012/2013 program year. The One World Hub program for universities is a unique 3-semester global leadership and professional development opportunity for university students that empowers students as facilitators of a global education curriculum in local school classrooms, paired with partner classrooms in another country.
