<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Delectable? OMG!</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/One-Mans-Meat.jpg" alt="Sumptuous Roast Meat Beef" class="wp-image-1116" width="751" height="422" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/One-Mans-Meat.jpg 640w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/One-Mans-Meat-300x169.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/One-Mans-Meat-580x326.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/One-Mans-Meat-320x180.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /><figcaption>When cooked to perfection, you are in for a treat!<br>Photo by <a href="https://unsplash.com/@joseignaciopompe?utm_source=unsplash&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=creditCopyText">José Ignacio Pompé</a> on <a href="https://unsplash.com/s/photos/meat?utm_source=unsplash&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=creditCopyText">Unsplash</a>. </figcaption></figure>

<p>Ever find yourself invited for a meal, drooling at the cut of one man&#8217;s meat, making your stomach rumble? Well, visual appeal is a key factor in determining how your brain perceives tastiness or otherwise. As a matter of fact, visual appeal determines your appetite way before your nose picks up the smells. Oops, the same can be said in reverse. More importantly, your tastebuds are normally third in line before you determine if the meat is tasty or not. </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Another Man&#8217;s Poison</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Is-Another-Mans-Poison.jpg" alt="Toxic Cans" class="wp-image-1115" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Is-Another-Mans-Poison.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Is-Another-Mans-Poison-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Is-Another-Mans-Poison-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Is-Another-Mans-Poison-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Is-Another-Mans-Poison-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>You are what you eat. Or did I mean that for another subject matter? <p>Unfortunately, the opposite is also true, &#8220;another man&#8217;s poison&#8221;, can be said about my posting&#8217;s title. In fact, one man&#8217;s meat is another man&#8217;s poison is proverbially true, in many facets of life. Forgive this ignoramus for thinking that quote came from <em>A Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare</em>. It actually goes way, way before that. Coined in the first century B.C. by the Roman Philosopher and Poet named <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucretius" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Titus Lucretius Carus</a> (known as Lucretius). Apologies everyone!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Malaysian Food Reviews &#8211; Generalisation</h4>

<p>Why one man&#8217;s meat? Practically everyone is a Foodie, regardless if you are Malaysian or not. Ever had that moment when viewing someone&#8217;s food review and thought it wasn&#8217;t as good despite them saying it was? Deja Vu. Generally, many famous or influential food reviewers in Malaysia adopt the middle path in their postings. Perhaps this is one of the methods to stay away from being roasted by netizens. Why can&#8217;t local food businesses take a little critique? Is it engrained in our social culture to always be nice? </p>

<p>On the contrary, I work in Hospitality. I can get 5 out of 5 ratings today, while 1 out of 5 ratings tomorrow, from my guests. It does not give me the license to lambast anyone who gives me a bad rating. Unfortunately, these are the facts of doing business. You can&#8217;t please everyone. </p>

<p>Ultimately I understand and believe that everyone needs to make a living, food reviewers included.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Into The Abyss</h4>

<p>In all honesty, I am quite fearful of beginning my food review postings under the category &#8220;Nibble + Chomp&#8221;. (My Link is not active yet. Have to get this disclaimer out first!). It feels like am I playing with, &#8220;One Man&#8217;s Meat is another Man&#8217;s Poison&#8221;. Hopefully, I won&#8217;t gloss things over, and if I don&#8217;t like it, will try to say it as it is. <strong>Sigh</strong>. </p>

<p>However, as in my previous disclaimer in reviews of non-food products, please read more and research more. Everyone has different opinions, cultures, tastes and so on. Remember, what works for me, may not work for you. Everything in life is subjective to the individual&#8217;s perspective and upbringing, not only confined to food! <h4 class="wp-block-heading">Once Upon A Workday&#8230;</h4>

<p>We have an Epson Inkjet EcoTank Model L3110 that was handed down to my young ones for their everyday use in the office. Yes, it&#8217;s an older model which we got 3 years ago, but yay! An All In One (AIO) printer with scanning capabilities. What more can you ask for? This would ease them running up and down the office to collect or scan printouts. Unfortunately, what started as a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_Tail" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fairy tail</a> (oops .. anime reference there) almost become a cloud of gloomy disappointment. Let our furry tail begin&#8230;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/When-Your-InkJet-Says-No-More.jpg" alt="When your Inkjet Printer begins to get hazy." class="wp-image-1024" width="751" height="422" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/When-Your-InkJet-Says-No-More.jpg 640w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/When-Your-InkJet-Says-No-More-300x169.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/When-Your-InkJet-Says-No-More-580x326.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/When-Your-InkJet-Says-No-More-320x180.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Sticky Prophecy Of Gloom</h4>

<p>One sunny morning not too long ago, my young ones groaned, &#8220;Oh lord Big Ratz of our Manor, the Epson L3110 Inkjet printer refuses to print in colour!&#8221;. Harken ye in reply, &#8220;Oh my young maiden and strapping lasses! Let us now venture forth into the unknown to repair thy Inkjet Printer&#8221;.</p>

<p>Ah, Inkjet printers. You either love or hate them. This is especially true when the Printer head resolves to clog. A case of Deja Vu for this ol&#8217; Ratz. I had my first intimate encounter with the colour inkjet in the early 90s, and it was pleasurable as opposed to the old yet noisy dot matrix printers. Furthermore, these inkjet printers were sleek and had disposable cartridges, for hurried convenience. If ever you had a stuck head, soak them in a little warm water (and have faith) or get new ones! <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/72x72/1f92d.png" alt="🤭" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>

<p>However, with the advent of Inktanks, things changed little. Despite being more economical, the headache is still there. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inkjet_printing" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Inkjet printers</a> are still in use today, so don&#8217;t underestimate how far they have come! Now let&#8217;s begin this <a href="https://thelabratz.com/life-is-your-definition/">Experiment</a> err, Adventure! </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Prologue-Are-We-On-The-Same-Page.jpg" alt="Let's get our terminology correct so we are on the same page." class="wp-image-1008" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Prologue-Are-We-On-The-Same-Page.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Prologue-Are-We-On-The-Same-Page-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Prologue-Are-We-On-The-Same-Page-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Prologue-Are-We-On-The-Same-Page-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Prologue-Are-We-On-The-Same-Page-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Hold up! Let&#8217;s get some terminology correct. On the same page now? <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/72x72/1f44d.png" alt="👍" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></figcaption></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">What You Will Need</h4>

<p>The main thing you will require is;</p>

<ul><li>Solvent or Chemical to clean the ink pigment and Cleaning Tool. A syringe with a silicone tube, that fits your Inkjet nozzles. </li><li>A length of the silicone tube in case of further repair. This is for feeding liquid ink from the Ink tank unit to the Printer Heads but is optional.</li></ul>

<p>Other things required;</p>

<ul><li>A pair of gloves (disregard if you love free abstract art on your hands).</li><li>Blotting Paper / Absorbant Material (we used paper kitchen towels and facial cotton).</li><li>A small bamboo skewer or toothpick (optional, if you intend to flush the ink tanks connected to the Printing heads).</li><li>Tools &#8211; screwdriver, pincers, etc.</li><li>Old towel/linen/newspaper to line the bottom of your printer and workspace.</li><li>A lot of patience (<em>NOT </em>optional and recommended!).</li></ul>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="500" height="750" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Preliminary-Cleaning-Chemical-you-will-need.jpg" alt="Cleaning Materials and Tools needed" class="wp-image-1007" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Preliminary-Cleaning-Chemical-you-will-need.jpg 500w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Preliminary-Cleaning-Chemical-you-will-need-200x300.jpg 200w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Preliminary-Cleaning-Chemical-you-will-need-320x480.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /><figcaption>Bought all 3 items! Hope that&#8217;s sufficient!</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Luckily, we can purchase the above-said items at reasonable prices from our favourite online shopping platforms! I bought the Dye Nozzle Cleaning Solution with Tools (syringe with attached silicone tube) for only MYR9.50. As a precaution, I added another bottle of cleaning solution at MYR5.50 with a 10 cm silicone pipeline for MYR10.00. Including postage, the total package came to MYR29.90 delivered right to your doorstep! I bought this entire package from <a href="https://shopee.com.my/Dye-Nozzle-Cleaning-Solution-100ml-i.46892438.2784548184" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">idkstore</a> which is based in Johor on Shopee.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Ready For Adventure?</h4>

<p>Before starting any great adventure, you will need the appropriate tools for survival. Not to worry, I have loads of them in my hoard. However, as in any repair, you have to accept the fact that there are risks involved as it may not turn out well.</p>

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow"><p> The nozzle cleaning solution is only used as an auxiliary cleaning function, and it is not guaranteed to be 100% effective. The specific cleaning success rate mainly depends on the wear degree of the nozzle.</p><cite>idkstore</cite></blockquote>

<p>Finally. Have you assembled all the things I listed above? Now is the obvious time for some good ol&#8217; elbow grease! Take a couple of deep breaths and on to the pictorial guide!</p>

<p><strong>WARNING!</strong> We tried this on our EPSON Inkjet L3110 with Inktank. The methodology listed below may differ from other models of inkjets with ink tanks. </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Inkjet Unclogging Process: Steps 1 &#8211; 4</h4>

<ul><li>Power on the printer</li><li>Open the Front Cover to expose the area where your can view your Printer Heads.</li><li>Press the STOP button and hold for 5-10 seconds until you hear the Epson L3110 Inkjet Printer begins to clean.</li><li>When the Printer heads begin to come into view, pull out the power cord or switch off the power supply. </li><li>The Printer heads are now unlocked as it is out from the docking station.</li><li>Disconnect the Scanner module by removing the 2 screws at the upper inner side of the printer.</li></ul>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-1-Prepping-Your-Inkjet-To-Get-Inside.jpg" alt="Switch on your Printer and press the Stop Key for 5-10 seconds" class="wp-image-1009" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-1-Prepping-Your-Inkjet-To-Get-Inside.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-1-Prepping-Your-Inkjet-To-Get-Inside-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-1-Prepping-Your-Inkjet-To-Get-Inside-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-1-Prepping-Your-Inkjet-To-Get-Inside-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-1-Prepping-Your-Inkjet-To-Get-Inside-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Press and hold the stop button for 5-10 Seconds until the Printer Head moves.</figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-2-3-Getting-the-Print-Heads-out-of-The-Dock.jpg" alt="How to get the Print Heads out from being locked" class="wp-image-1010" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-2-3-Getting-the-Print-Heads-out-of-The-Dock.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-2-3-Getting-the-Print-Heads-out-of-The-Dock-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-2-3-Getting-the-Print-Heads-out-of-The-Dock-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-2-3-Getting-the-Print-Heads-out-of-The-Dock-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-2-3-Getting-the-Print-Heads-out-of-The-Dock-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Open the Front Cover, and watch the Printer Heads coming out into view. <br>Unplug or switch off the power supply.</figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-4-Loosening-the-Screws-Holding-The-Flat-Bed-Scanner.jpg" alt="Locating the screws holding down the Scanner Module" class="wp-image-1011" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-4-Loosening-the-Screws-Holding-The-Flat-Bed-Scanner.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-4-Loosening-the-Screws-Holding-The-Flat-Bed-Scanner-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-4-Loosening-the-Screws-Holding-The-Flat-Bed-Scanner-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-4-Loosening-the-Screws-Holding-The-Flat-Bed-Scanner-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Step-4-Loosening-the-Screws-Holding-The-Flat-Bed-Scanner-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Remove the 2 Screws holding down the Scanner Module.</figcaption></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Scanner Removal &amp; General Cleaning: Step 5 &#8211; 8</h4>

<ul><li>Remove the 3 Ribbon Cables connected to the Scanner Module.</li><li>Remove the LEFT SIDE cover. Grab both sides while applying steady pressure. Tilt at an angle towards you and pull slowly. This panel is attached to the printer at the bottom with a centre catch. </li><li>If you do not remove the LEFT SIDE cover, you will have difficulty putting back the Ribbon cables later. (We experienced it ourselves).</li><li>Locate your Waste Ink Pad. You will see a tiny Wiper and some Spongy Foam sitting beneath your Printer heads when docked. Squeeze a few drops of the Cleaning Solution onto it.</li><li>Use an absorbent material (we used facial cotton) to soak up the residual ink from the Waste Ink Pad. Repeat until satisfied. <h4 class="wp-block-heading">Cleaning Inkjet Printer Heads Proper: Steps 9 &#8211; 10</h4>

<ul><li>Lay your prepared Blotting Paper / Absorbent Material on the Inkjet printer&#8217;s tracks. Using your hand, push the Inkjet Carriage over the Blotting Paper / Absorbent Material ensuring it can smoothly glide over the paper without becoming stuck. Please be gentle.</li><li>Take your cleaning tool (Syringe with silicone tube) and fill up to 4ml of Cleaning Solution. Plug the end of the silicone tube into the head of the printing carriage. </li><li>Slowly depress the plunger on the cleaning tool using about 2 ml of cleaning solution. Move the print carriage and check the Blotting paper. Continue with the remaining solution. </li><li>Check the Blotting paper until no residual colour is seen. Change paper and repeat the process if necessary.</li><li>NOTE: This may take a little force initially. If you can press it pretty easy, your print heads are most probably not clogged. </li><li>However, if you find it difficult, you may try leaving your cleaning tool attached to the print head nozzle, for a few hours. During this time, occasionally push and pull the plunger gently until you get a nice flush.</li></ul>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Optional &#8211; Flushing The Ink Tanks: Step 11</h4>

<ul><li>This is OPTIONAL. If you think your Ink tanks connected to the Printer heads of your Epson Inkjet L3110 are NOT CLOGGED, please SKIP to the next step. Elsewise, continue with us here.</li><li>Remove all hoses attached to the Ink tanks. Mark the supplying hose that matches the particular colour.</li><li>Take your cleaning tool (Syngrine with silicone tube) and fill it with up to 10ml or more of Cleaning Solution. Plug the end of the silicone tube into the attached Ink tank nozzle.</li><li>Using a bamboo skewer, press down the connecting head of the Print head on the Ink tank. </li><li>Flush each Ink tank with Cleaning Solution. Remove the cleaning tool connection.</li><li>Fill your cleaning tool with air by pulling the plunger towards you. Reconnect the Cleaning tool to the Ink tank. Depress the nozzle with the blunt part of the bamboo skewer. Flush until dry.</li><li>Repeat for all other colours if necessary. </li></ul>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Error! How To RESET Your Printer: Step 14</h4>

<ul><li>During testing, both the ink and paper light flashed together. The error message on the Epson Inkjet L3110 Utility Printing Tool said that the Waste Ink Pad had expired. Yes, it has a maximum number of times to be used before this error message.</li><li>Luckily, we managed to find a <a href="https://youtu.be/KJ8VU2CuvXI" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">YouTube video</a> and software that lets you reset everything on your Epson Printer! Uber cool! </li><li>First, we had to RESET the Waste Ink Pad Counter.</li><li>Second, we had to CHARGE INK using the same tool. This is because we just had to flush the attached Ink tanks on the Printer heads in STEP 11. Be warned, it takes about 20 minutes and roughly 20 ML of ink. Check your ink levels before attempting this step!</li></ul>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Old, Tired, Worn-Out Wallets &#8211; Anyone?</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Money-Clip-Hard-Case-Wallet-Name-Card-Which.jpg" alt="Which One Will You Choose?" class="wp-image-847" width="750" height="422" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Money-Clip-Hard-Case-Wallet-Name-Card-Which.jpg 640w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Money-Clip-Hard-Case-Wallet-Name-Card-Which-300x169.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Money-Clip-Hard-Case-Wallet-Name-Card-Which-580x326.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Money-Clip-Hard-Case-Wallet-Name-Card-Which-320x180.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Take your pick &#8211; which one lasts longer?</figcaption></figure>

<p>Ogon! Oh, Gone! Aw Gone? Now, how do you pronounce that? Correctly spelt as Ögon, this is arguably not English. Nonetheless, I stumbled upon this product after browsing for a new name card holder. Thought it would be nice to carry a hard case holder that can fit, not only my credit cards but some paper monies as well. Would be an added bonus if the case had RFID protection as well. </p>

<p>Sounds like an easy undertaking, no? Unfortunately, I was overwhelmed with a plethora of choices by manufacturers in China. Despite being competitive in terms of pricing, the products staring down at me were not so convincing. This is partly because I had experience with a hard case holder given to me by <a href="https://www.astro.com.my/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Astro</a> as a gift. </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Leather Wallets, Money Clips Or Hard Cases?</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Astro-Hard-Case-Issues.jpg" alt="Problems with existing hard-case" class="wp-image-866" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Astro-Hard-Case-Issues.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Astro-Hard-Case-Issues-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Astro-Hard-Case-Issues-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Astro-Hard-Case-Issues-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Astro-Hard-Case-Issues-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Despite its limitations, I quite like this hard-case wallet concept&#8230;</figcaption></figure>

<p>I used to own some great leather wallets and money clips, but hard cases are the least favourite option of mine, if at all. Why you may ask? Generally, it&#8217;s not the small size or compactness, but more a question of build quality. Though selections are just abundant, with price ranges varying from uber cheap to moderately high, many will not give you the confidence in part due to their design or materials used. In my experience, you can even crush some of these hard case wallets with a prod of your fingers. </p>

<p>So why Ogon? This was a direct result of my trusty Logitech Mouse scroll wheel, swooshing onto the Ogon Big Stockholm v1 from shoppe. Who, you ask? Coincidently, that&#8217;s the first thing I asked myself. Never heard of them. With a quick whiff of my wrist and a click of the mouse, they claim to be the creators and innovators of the Aluminium Wallet since 2004. Don&#8217;t believe me? Check out their updated website at <a href="https://www.ogondesigns.com/en/index.php" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">https://www.ogondesigns.com</a>. All their wallets come with RFID protection. Check boxes marked!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Is RFID Blocking A Necessity?</h4>

<p>In this day and age, we have been inundated with reminders of security, security and more security. I believe this is mainly because we have become paranoid, thanks to the unending news of scams going around Malaysia. However, is RFID Blocking technology really needed or more of a marketing tactic, praying on our security fears? </p>

<p>To be honest, I am just looking for a good, sturdy-built, hard case wallet that can contain my paper monies, credit cards and coins in one non-flexible container while able to withstand rough use. My old wallets and name card cases were prone to have outlines of coins or cards after a few months, looking a little battered, tattered and unrecognizable. So it&#8217;s time for a new perspective. Like I said earlier, RFID Blocking for me, is not on my list, it&#8217;s more of a bonus.</p>

<p>Interestingly, Ogon is also trying to address the numerous copied designs from other OEM producers and has openly posted a statement <a href="https://www.ogondesigns.com/en/journal-contrefacon-porte-cartes-en-alu-l-original-vs-la-copie-39.php" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>. Guess I will have to keep this post updated since I am testing how long this purchase will last, in comparison to my &#8220;Astro&#8221; hard case. This is going to be a battle of build quality, however, to be fair, I know China also has producers that can design and manufacture good quality products as well. As the Cantonese saying goes, &#8220;<strong><em>Pay 1 cent, get 1 cent of quality</em></strong>&#8220;. Apologies for the literal translation!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Box.jpg" alt="Big Stockholm Version 1" class="wp-image-845" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Box.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Box-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Box-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Box-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Box-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>I like the sticker thanking you for supporting small businesses! <figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Benefits.jpg" alt="Big Stockholm Version 1" class="wp-image-844" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Benefits.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Benefits-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Benefits-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Benefits-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Aluminium-Wallet-Benefits-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>And yes, their website has changed to www.ogondesigns.com. Mine is most probably an old version/stock. </figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Unveiling-Of-Ogon.jpg" alt="Big Stockholm Version 1" class="wp-image-853" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Unveiling-Of-Ogon.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Unveiling-Of-Ogon-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Unveiling-Of-Ogon-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Unveiling-Of-Ogon-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Unveiling-Of-Ogon-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Undressed from its box</figcaption></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">OGON Malaysia Store?</h4>

<p>Alright! Ogon seems legit to me. Honestly, this is building my confidence in the brand. Looking at the Big Stockholm v1, it was larger compared to most other cases found online &#8211; dimensions being 118 mm (W) X 94 (L) X 19 mm (H). This meant I could fold my notes into half and have them fully encased, unlike my current one. Given that this was an aluminium case with a polycarbonate finish, I expected it to be of &#8220;designer&#8221; or &#8220;branded&#8221; price, but a search online proved me wrong. It retails for around MYR160.00 and I think that is reasonable. Ok-lah. Undoubtedly there are much cheaper options out there, but this is an aluminium-based, polycarbonate-finished, sturdy-built wallet! I don&#8217;t think we should compare this to those mass-produced, malleable ones.</p>

<p>It was also fascinating to note that all their products are made in France and assembled in Normandy. Now, how often do you hear that these days? Surprisingly, I found an &#8220;Ogon Official Store&#8221; on Shopee Malaysia and Ogon products sold by Oribags on Lazada. However, I did not procure mine from either one. Instead, I opted to purchase from <a href="https://shopee.com.my/ecoenigma?categoryId=100533&amp;itemId=1251008870" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">EcoEnigma</a> on Shopee Malaysia due to their good reviews. Well, it looks like he/she was giving free coffee as a sweetener. Clickbait perhaps? How can you say no to freebies? I am a 100% purebred Malaysian! <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/72x72/1f60a.png" alt="😊" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>

<p>For your reference, the Ogon Big Stockholm v1 is of an older design. The Ogon Big Stockholm range is currently called &#8211; Wallet Smart Case LARGE. There are also some design updates with the latest one being version 2 (2022 design). Duh! Don&#8217;t believe me? Google the former name and you will see results for version 1 (2004 design) and version 2 (2022 design). Interestingly, the price of the new versus the old is around the same price, or thereabouts. Oops, did this Ratz get a little confused again?</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">First Impressions</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pinching-Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet.jpg" alt="Big Stockholm Version 1" class="wp-image-852" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pinching-Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pinching-Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pinching-Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pinching-Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pinching-Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>The 3 Finger Hold of Desire</figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-Front.jpg" alt="Big Stockholm Version 1" class="wp-image-848" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-Front.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-Front-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-Front-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-Front-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-Aluminium-Wallet-Front-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Reminds me of a Cigarette case &#8230;. and it&#8217;s kind of like a fingerprint magnet &#8230;&#8230;</figcaption></figure>

<p>I thought it would be much, much bigger in my hand but surprisingly, I can hold it with my small paws. It&#8217;s light &#8211; specifications say it&#8217;s 95 grams, but my digital weighing scale begs to differ. It came in at 94 grams. The hinge at the centre is pretty long (unlike my &#8220;Astro&#8221; one) and covers the entire left and right capsules. So you can consider this a 100% backbone hinge. Both inner sides have matching grooves so they lock nicely together with a release mechanism at the front. Pinching it with some force, the Ogon Big Stockholm v1 (Smart Case Wallet LARGE) does not bend as it is pretty rigid. That&#8217;s a good start!</p>

<p>Like in life, there are some downsides as well. I noticed this model can be quite the magnet for fingerprints however it is not as bad compared to some handphone models. Wipes off easily.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Will It Last? An Ongoing Update</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-RFID-Wallet-Actual-Use.jpg" alt="Big Stockholm Version 1" class="wp-image-850" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-RFID-Wallet-Actual-Use.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-RFID-Wallet-Actual-Use-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-RFID-Wallet-Actual-Use-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-RFID-Wallet-Actual-Use-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ogon-RFID-Wallet-Actual-Use-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>I love my Japanese Yen from my Japan Trip. Good time to use it.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Attention! I started using the Ogon Big Stockholm v1 on<strong> 30th July 2022</strong>. So what did I put in it? Inside comprises 13 pieces of Malaysian notes (lots were MYR1.00, cause I want to understand how thick I can go), my IC, driving license, and 4 credit cards making it a total of 6 credit cards. Coupled with 5 pieces of Singaporean notes (can&#8217;t recall why I had that) with an &#8220;Ang Pow&#8221; that is neatly folded in half. Luckily, the entire thing could close nicely. And hey, it fits my back jeans pocket nicely as well! Yay! Time to start chronicling how long this Ogon Big Stockholm v1 will last! My Astro hard case only lasted 4 miserable months, so I hope Ogon will beat that record. </p>

<p>Nuff said! Ratz will be back later to update if any! Need to go bathe in the sewers! Squeak!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Don&#8217;t You Just Hate It When&#8230;</h4>

<p>You just bought something new. You&#8217;re excited and can&#8217;t wait to unbox it. Upon reaching home or when the delivery guy sends your parcel, out comes the cutter and &#8230;. zap! Unwrapped! But then, you realize that something is missing from your parcel. Now, what was it? Have you ever felt like that? Well, the Viltrox DC-50, does not come with any charging cables or charging options. </p>

<p>There are times when the manufacturer may not include any accessories or charging cables with the product, at times due to cost constraints. Which I think, in this case, is the main reason. At other times, it may be for reasons as obscure as uncovering the secrets at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumapunku" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Puma Punku.</a> Honestly, I lean more towards Stonehenge &#8230;..</p>

<p>Since the Viltrox DC-50 did not come with any accessories for power, I thought it would be nice to explore all the available options for this device. So Squeak! Into the furry mobile, we scurry!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Battery Packs &#8211; Best Option for Mobility</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Batteries-1.jpg" alt="Batteries and Battery Charger. How many more power options do you need?" class="wp-image-810" width="750" height="422" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Batteries-1.jpg 640w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Batteries-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Batteries-1-580x326.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Batteries-1-320x180.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>How many types of batteries do you have?</figcaption></figure>

<p>In my earlier <a href="https://thelabratz.com/viltrox-dc-50-portable-monitor/">post</a>, I mentioned that the Viltrox DC-50 accepts the following battery packs; the FM500H, QM71D or QM91D. These packs are meant for Sony-based cameras, and since I use Fujifilm, better get some. I bought the <a href="https://shopee.com.my/VIloso-Compact-AC-DC-Charger-for-Sony-NP-FM500H-Battery-i.75586549.3217032892" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">DigiEye Compact AC/DC travel charger</a> and <a href="https://shopee.com.my/Viloso-NP-FM500H-Lithium-ion-Battery-Pack-i.75586549.3517875824" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Viloso branded FM500H Battery</a> from Divine Camera &amp; Gadget. Trying hard to keep costs down on everything, the quality of both the products was acceptable however the power cord for the travel charger had a little accident. Perhaps I pushed and pulled it too hard, but the inside live connection came off. Luckily, I have other 2 pin plugs lying around thanks to my Fuji X-Pro1. Nevertheless, the battery packs purchased work well with the Viltrox!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Power Adaptor Confusion</h4>

<p>Squeak! This Ratz is running around in circles, confused. Firstly the operating manual spells it out as bright as day &#8211; DC Jack In. Fullstop. What technical spec is that? There are so many sizes of DC Jacks! Gawd. Ok, out with the rusty trusty ruler and more reading on the matter. It looks like the monitor accepts a DC Plug of around 5 &#8211; 5.5mm outer diameter. And what of the inner diameter? Gawd.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Confusion.jpg" alt="The Options for Power is confusing on this Viltrox" class="wp-image-812" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Confusion.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Confusion-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Confusion-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Confusion-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Confusion-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Information is here, there and everywhere! Come find us!</figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/What-Size.jpg" alt="Good Old Trusty Plastic Ruler" class="wp-image-808" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/What-Size.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/What-Size-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/What-Size-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/What-Size-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/What-Size-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>How large are you? Let me see &#8230;..</figcaption></figure>

<p>This Viltrox DC-50 operating manual specifies that it accepts a direct current of 8V-18V under the category Working Temperature. Err &#8230; did I miss Amps somewhere? Luckily, on the back of the actual monitor, it does specify AC ADAPTOR = 8V 2A. So putting all my bits of cheese together, I take it that this thing will run at a minimum of 8V 2A and a maximum of 18V 2A? Erm &#8230; So I opted for the <a href="https://shopee.com.my/Universal-DC-9V-2A-Switching-power-supply-Adaptor-3-Pin-UK-plug-DC-Plug-5.5MM*2.1-2.5mm-i.9694173.6664424021" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Universal DV 9V 2A 5.5mm X 2.1/2.5mm</a> from starhomediy. Here goes another shot in the dark. Whoopee! I hope I don&#8217;t waste too much money on these experiments. So much for trying to find all power options for this Viltrox DC-50.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor.jpg" alt="Viltrox DC-50 9V 2A 5.5mm X 2.1/2.5mm - Power Option confusion" class="wp-image-814" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Remind me, why did I purchase 2 pieces of this?</figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Works.jpg" alt="Thank goodness the Power Adaptor works" class="wp-image-813" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Works.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Works-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Works-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Works-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Power-Adaptor-Works-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Yay! It works! </figcaption></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The USB Route</h4>

<p>Another power option for the Viltrox DC-50 Monitor is via a Mini USB to USB cable. The mini USB standard has been out for some time now and I think it&#8217;s pretty ancient. But who am I to complain when I still have some Mini USB cables laying around? Now, where did I put those?</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo.jpg" alt="Testing the Viltrox DC-50 Mini USB with a Powerbank" class="wp-image-817" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Good ol&#8217; Mini USB cable and Powerbank</figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-Works.jpg" alt="Well, Putting My Xiaomi Powerbank as a power option on the Viltrox" class="wp-image-816" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-Works.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-Works-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-Works-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-Works-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-Works-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Yay! It works as well!</figcaption></figure>

<p>Hurm. Time to complain. Firstly the MINI USB does not fit snugly into the port. It appears that only less than half goes in. Secondly, when using this method, the POWER ON/OFF switch is redundant. In essence, when you stick the MINI USB with active power, the Viltrox DC-50 will come to life, regardless of where your power switch is. Even in OFF mode, it will glow and rise &#8230;.. it&#8217;s alive!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-But.jpg" alt="Power Option Quirk on the Viltrox - On/Off Switch Not Required." class="wp-image-815" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-But.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-But-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-But-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-But-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Powerbank-Combo-But-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>See the Blue Glow of the Viltrox saying &#8220;No HDMI Input&#8221; but the power selector is in the OFF position!</figcaption></figure>

<p>In conclusion, you can run this 5&#8243; Monitor using the USB route with a Mini USB to USB male cable with a USB Power Charger that outputs at minimum 8V and 2A. Hurm &#8230; interesting.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">A Hidden Benefit Of Using USB</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging.jpg" alt="Viltrox DC-50 Fujifilm X-E3" class="wp-image-811" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Taking a huge risk here. YouTube said it won&#8217;t work. I need to test it for myself!</figcaption></figure>

<p>There is one hidden &#8220;Gem&#8221; from using this power option. I purchased a <a href="https://shopee.com.my/Micro-USB-Type-B-male-to-mini-USB-Type-B-male-Host-OTG-Adapter-Cable-i.65231794.18400385585" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mini USB to Micro USB Type B Male Host OTG Adaptor Cable</a> (0.5m) from winstartech.my. You can charge your camera using the supplied FM500H battery (or equivalent) with the Viltrox DC-50 as an added power option. However, I did spy a YouTube video saying it won&#8217;t work. Luckily, it works fine on my Fujifilm X-E3 &#8230; as the green light comes alive, when I flip the switch to the &#8220;ON&#8221; position. You just need to ensure that all connections are tight! Perhaps it can prolong the well-known NP-W126S batteries that I use. Time to test some videos later.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-Works.jpg" alt="Power Options : Viltrox DC-50 Charging My Fujifilm X-E3" class="wp-image-818" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-Works.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-Works-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-Works-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-Works-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Camera-Body-Charging-Works-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Yay! Look at the Green LED light on my Fujifilm X-E3 &#8230; it works!</figcaption></figure>

<p>Nuff said! Time for this Ratz to go relax and catch up on his favourite animes. Squeak! </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Why I Decided To Get A 5&#8243; Portable Monitor.</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Old-Android-Phone.jpg" alt="Mirrorless LCD Monitor Project" class="wp-image-718" width="751" height="422" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Old-Android-Phone.jpg 640w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Old-Android-Phone-300x169.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Old-Android-Phone-580x326.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Old-Android-Phone-320x180.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /><figcaption>And the reason is &#8230;. take a guess as to what I am up to!</figcaption></figure>

<p>A little late to the game, but I got the Viltrox DC-50 Portable 5&#8243; LCD with HDMI input for my Fujifilm Cameras! Admittedly, I wanted to be more active online, sharing my hobbies and <a href="https://thelabratz.com/category/rat-race-of-life/">opinions</a>. This is despite being a noob when it comes to creating online content &#8211; from planning right up to photos or videos in my posts. As such, budget is a major factor when deciding what equipment I should &#8220;invest&#8221; for this blog of mine. Hence, I scoured YouTube for reviews &#8211; sadly numerous reviewers were regular photographers and filmmakers, so their recommendations were out of reach for me. Moreover, I don&#8217;t have a spare stash of greenbacks somewhere in my furry home. Give me more budget options! Nonetheless, there is one consolation for me; I got more mainland China product options cause I am in Asia!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">It Could Have Been Avoided, If&#8230;</h4>

<p>Let&#8217;s face it, I am a hobbyist. Therefore, I don&#8217;t have the latest camera gear or plan to upgrade. Still love my &#8220;outdated&#8221; Fujifilm X-Pro 1 and X-E3, both of which, don&#8217;t come with an articulating LCD screen. This, besides other things, makes it difficult to selfie beauty-cam myself let alone produce different types of content. It is especially true in the case of people like me &#8211; a proverbial one-man show.</p>

<p>Nevertheless, I came across some ideas to turn your old android phone into a Portable LCD Monitor for your camera! Woot! Like an excited kid, I scavenged all needed parts lying around (Oh, did I fail to mention I love to hoard?). Subsequently whipping out my old Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime, Micro OTG cable, USB HDMI 4K Capture card, with the necessary connectors and accessories. Thereafter quickly downloaded <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shenyaocn.android.usbcamera&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=US" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">USB Camera</a> from Google Playstore, hooked up everything and flipped the switch &#8230;. *blink* the blank screen stared at me. Undaunted, fed by my nervous energy, I soldiered on trying other apps and numerous settings to no avail.</p>

<p>In conclusion, my phone was too ancient to keep up with the signal from the USB HDMI 4K Capture Card. Even with both USB 2 (30fps) and USB 3 (60fps) it just didn&#8217;t want to budge. However, there was 1 app that could kind of work, but with resolutions below 720p and a tremendous lag, I surrendered to my fate. </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">To Buy Or Not To Buy</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/DC-50-Box-from-Viltrox.jpg" alt="Viltrox DC-50 Packing" class="wp-image-721" width="749" height="499" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/DC-50-Box-from-Viltrox.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/DC-50-Box-from-Viltrox-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/DC-50-Box-from-Viltrox-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/DC-50-Box-from-Viltrox-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/DC-50-Box-from-Viltrox-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 749px) 100vw, 749px" /><figcaption>Yay! It&#8217;s here! Wait &#8230; isn&#8217;t this a camera lens manufacturer?</figcaption></figure>

<p>Albeit my failure, I toyed with the idea of dropping MYR8,000 on a new camera body. Fortunately or not (depending on who&#8217;s perspective), my logical side got the better of me. And so I ended up splurging MYR404.39 for the Viltrox DC-50 directly from mainland China inclusive of shipping! Phew! Saved a couple of megabucks there. Perhaps I could do with a gimbal later? Tee hee hee. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Whats-In-the-Box.jpg" alt="Viltrox DC-50 WHats in the Box" class="wp-image-723" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Whats-In-the-Box.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Whats-In-the-Box-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Whats-In-the-Box-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Whats-In-the-Box-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Whats-In-the-Box-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>Tada! My unboxing efforts! The Viltrox DC-50 is sitting on a wire frame that does not come together ok?</figcaption></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">What Comes In The Box</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-table is-style-regular"><table class="has-fixed-layout"><thead><tr><th class="has-text-align-left" data-align="left">INCLUDED</th><th class="has-text-align-left" data-align="left">NOT INCLUDED</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td class="has-text-align-left" data-align="left">1 x Viltrox DC-50 5&#8243; LCD Screen<br>1 x Sunshade<br>1 x Hot/Cold Shoe Adaptor<br>1 x Mini HDMI to HDMI Cable<br>1 x Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable<br>1 x Pouch<br>1 x Instruction Manual (English/Chinese)<br>1 x Warranty Card </td><td class="has-text-align-left" data-align="left">No Batteries (it runs on FM500H, QM71D or QM91D packs for Sony Cameras)<br>No Power Adaptor<br>No Mini USB Cable (For Power)<br><br><br><br><br></td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">First Impressions</h4>

<p>Honestly, I quite like the build quality of the Viltrox DC-50. Yes, it has that plastic feel but hey, it&#8217;s for hobbyists on a budget. Furthermore, the package is sweetened with the included Spring Loaded Sunshade. The only less sexy thing about the unit is its thick sides, with its Sunshade on &#8211; measures around 3 cm. Coupled with the base and an FM500H Battery, you will be looking at something like 4 cm in thickness. Would have preferred a thick, delectable pastrami sandwich oozing with Gouda. Hurm. However, with its hot/cold shoe adaptor, the unit feels light and sturdy. Happy, happy am I.</p>

<p>On the other hand, this model outputs 800 X 480 pixels, not even native full HD. Not a deal breaker because this model targets people like me who lack that articulating LCD screen on their cameras. I really need the flexibility to be able to see and frame myself properly including taking selfies on my own. </p>

<p>As a consequence, perhaps the manufacturer added the ability for Focus Peaking on this monitor for better value. This is in conjunction with a shutter release button which requires another cable connection. It even has onboard speakers and I had to turn it off manually.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Weight</h4>

<p>In spite of its nice build quality and price point, weight is also key. Since I am on an intermittent fasting regime, the time has come for the weighing scale! March that Viltrox DC-50 for the fatty test.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-50-Weight.jpg" alt="How Much Do You Weigh?" class="wp-image-737" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-50-Weight.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-50-Weight-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-50-Weight-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-50-Weight-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-50-Weight-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></figure>

<p>Not too shabby, coming in at a combined weight of 324 grams. I opted for the FM500H batteries instead of their heavier counterparts, so guess that helps. Finally, I got to add my camera weight as well. This is a combination of my Fujifilm X-E4, small rig holder and my heaviest lens, the Fujinon 16mm f1.4 combined; a total of 887 grams. This brings the grand total, combined with the Viltrox DC-50- tada! That&#8217;s 1.211 kilograms on one arm! Looks like I won&#8217;t be visiting the gym anytime soon after this.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">In Conclusion</h4>

<p>All in all, I am pretty happy with this purchase in part due to the price point. Granted, will be spending more time with this new toy of mine, including testing some accessories that are on the way over! With regards to response time, well, there is a teeny weeny lag, but it&#8217;s not as bad as my Android Phone experiment. So all in all I give the Viltrox DC-50 a thumbs up!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-FujiFilm-X-E3.jpg" alt="Viltrox and Fujifilm Side by Side" class="wp-image-749" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-FujiFilm-X-E3.jpg 750w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-FujiFilm-X-E3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-FujiFilm-X-E3-720x480.jpg 720w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-FujiFilm-X-E3-580x387.jpg 580w, https://thelabratz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Viltrox-DC-FujiFilm-X-E3-320x213.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>No, I didn&#8217;t superimpose myself in. Thank my Fujifilm X-Pro 1 for that. <br>In case you are wondering, I wanted to maintain my landscape photos &#8230; <br>that&#8217;s why I used 2 tripods for this side-by-side shot. </figcaption></figure>

<p>Last but not least, please remember to check your HDMI output settings on your camera, as rubbish in = rubbish out. Nuff said! And with a quiet squeak, this ratz patters off into the kitchen to fix some food for his rumbling stomach. Till next time, be happy and squeaky! </p>
