"FREE WATCH MOVIE TRASFORMER"

2011-05-24T08:43:00.000-07:00

Sam Witwicky, friend to the Autobots, is taking a break from saving the world to struggle with the day-to-day challenges of finding work and love. But once again his life is turned into chaos by the malevolent Decepticons. A Cybertronian spacecraft has been sighted on the moon, and if the Decepticons find it first, they will almost certainly triumph in the Transformers' ultimate battle. Their evil schemes draw them to Chicago, endangering Sam's girlfriend and forcing him to save the day once again.

Three Good Reasons

1The film gives a big-screen debut to some favorites from the TV show and comics, including Shockwave and Sentinel Prime (voiced by Leonard Nimoy).
2The mood of the film is deeper and darker than the previous installments. Director Michael Bay compared it to "'Black Hawk Down' with giant alien robots."
3The spectacular special effects and explosions will be brought to you in 3D!

Bet You Didn't Know

In a chaotic spectacle worthy of their robotic cousins, two ordinary non-transforming cars crashed into one another on the set of the film. A real-life police SUV rushing to deal with a bomb threat careened into the filming area and totaled the Camaro that plays the role of Bumblebee. Luckily they had an "understudy" ready to replace the deceased Chevy.

"latest update in south east Spain:Spain earthquake: 2 temblors kill 10, injure dozens Wednesday"

"Spain earthquake: 2 temblors kill 10, injure dozens Wednesday"

"Madrid"

"Two earthquakes struck southeast Spain in quick succession Wednesday, killing at least 10 people, injuring dozens and causing major damage to buildings, officials said."

The epicenter of the quakes — with magnitudes of 4.4 and 5.2 — was close to the town of Lorca, and the second came about two hours after the first, an official with the Murcia regional government said on condition of anonymity in line with department policy.

The Murcia regional government said a hospital in Lorca was being evacuated, dozens of injured people were being treated at the scene and a field hospital was being set up.

The Spanish prime minister's office put the death toll at 10 and the Murcia regional administration said the deaths included a minor and occurred with the second, stronger quake.

Large chunks of stone and brick fell from the facade of a church in Lorca as a reporter for Spanish state TV was broadcasting live from the scene. A large church bell was also among the rubble, which missed striking the reporter, who appeared to be about 30 feet (9 meters) away when it fell. The broadcaster reported that schoolchildren usually gather at that spot around that time, and if it had happened 10 minutes later, a "tragedy" could have occurred.

Spanish TV showed images of cars that were partially crushed by falling rubble, and large cracks in buildings. Nervous groups of residents gathered in open public places, talking about what happened and calling relatives and friends on their cell phones. An elderly woman appeared to be in shock and was seated in a chair as people tried to calm her.

"I felt a tremendously strong movement, followed by a lot of noise, and I was really frightened," the newspaper El Pais quoted another Lorca resident Juani Avellanada as saying. It did not give her age.

Yet another resident, Juana Ruiz, said her house split open with the quake and "all the furniture fell over," according to El Pais.

John Bellini, a seismologist with the U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colorado, said the larger earthquake had a preliminary 5.3 magnitude and struck 220 miles (350 kilometers) south-southeast of Madrid at 6:47 p.m. (1647 GMT, 12:47 p.m. EDT).

The quake was about 6 miles (10 kilometers) deep, and was preceded by the smaller one with a 4.5 magnitude in the same spot, Bellini said. He classified the bigger quake as moderate and said it could cause structural damage to older buildings and masonry.

The quakes occurred in a seismically active area near a large fault beneath the Mediterranean Sea where the European and African continents brush past each other, USGS seismologist Julie Dutton said.

The USGS said it has recorded hundreds of small quakes in the area since 1990.

"Tiger Woods withdraws from Players after front-nine 42"

2011-05-15T09:33:00.000-07:00

source by:Shane Bacon

For Tiger Woods, the world keeps getting stranger and stranger, and that couldn't be more clear than on Thursday at The Players Championship, when Tiger withdrew after just nine holes of play at TPC Sawgrass.

Tiger, playing with Martin Kaymer and Matt Kuchar, shook hands with both competitors after a nine holes stretch that consisted of three bogeys and a triple-bogey, to turn in 42 and limp off the course, citing injury to his knee, but also to his ego. Tiger said the pain started on the first tee shot of the day, and continued until he couldn't take it anymore.

"Yeah, the knee acted up and then the Achilles followed after that and then the calf started cramping up. Everything started getting tight, so it's just a whole chain reaction ... I'm having a hard time walking."

It is the second straight year that Tiger withdrew from this tournament and the fourth WD of his career, but the whole thing seems peculiar. Tiger, tied for dead last after nine holes, limping off the golf course and back into hiding, probably taking a few more weeks off of golf before we see him again, if that.

The golf fan in me agrees that Tiger must have been hurting, and if he's in pain, pulling out of the event was the right thing to do, but the cynic in me has to focus on the fact that Tiger was 6-over after nine holes, and not looking to turn that around anytime soon.

But what's next for Woods? The Memorial? Congressional? The British Open? Who knows right now. Tiger said before the week that he felt his knee was 100 percent and his goal was to win, but he hadn't played 18 holes yet since Augusta, and after nine holes on Tuesday, never confirmed really how he felt. Now, after just the first leg of the Players, Tiger is done, and that will be the story of the entire week, no matter who wins or loses.

More on this as it comes out, but for now, Tiger is out at the Players, and his future seems as grim as ever.

"With gas prices coming down and food prices perhaps to follow, inflation may be peaking"

2011-05-15T08:52:00.000-07:00

source by:washingtonpost.com

WASHINGTON — After weeks of pain at the gas pump and the grocery store, the worst appears to be over.

Oil prices have fallen, with gas soon to follow. Demand for farm commodities, like the corn used in everything from cereal to soda, has dropped. And businesses remain slow to pass along higher costs because customers aren’t getting raises and might walk away.

Inflation may be approaching its peak.

“I think the bulk of the big price increases are over,” said Gus Faucher, an economist at Moody’s Analytics.

Lower prices — or at least a break in their steady rise — will come as a big relief. Consumer prices rose 3.2 percent for the year ending in April, the most since October 2008. Higher food and gas prices drove the gains.

Excluding those two categories, prices rose 0.2 percent in April. They rose 1.3 percent over the past year, below what the Federal Reserve considers healthy. Economists study this figure, known as core inflation, because food and energy prices are volatile.

Some inflation can be healthy for the economy because it encourages people to spend and invest rather than sitting on their cash. More spending drives corporate growth, which makes businesses more likely to hire people.

Inflation was a much bigger concern in March. Oil prices were rising steadily because of the unrest in the Middle East. Some feared gas could reach $5 a gallon, leaving Americans much less money to spend on cars, appliances and vacations. That kind of drop in spending would squeeze corporate profits, delay hiring — maybe even tip the economy back into recession.

But last week, oil prices sank by the most in two and half years. Americans drive less when gas prices get high enough, and concerns about slowing energy demand sent oil prices tumbling — from $114 at the start of May to about $97 on Friday.

Now the nationwide average for gas has leveled off. On Friday it was just under $4 a gallon, where it’s been for the past week. Many analysts say it could drop to $3.50 as soon as next month.

The prices of milk, bread and chicken won’t fall as fast — it could take six months or longer, analysts say — but they could decline by the end of the year. That’s because the price of corn and other grains have fallen. Overseas ranchers are using less corn for feed, and U.S. farmers have planted more.

Food prices had risen in March at the fastest rate in three years.

Changes in grain and corn prices take longer to filter down to grocery stores than changes in oil prices do to the gas pump. That’s because grains and other commodities represent a smaller fraction of food costs in the U.S than in other countries. By contrast, oil prices are the biggest factor in the cost of gas.

There was evidence in Friday’s government report on consumer prices that food inflation will slow by year’s end. Gas prices rose 3.3 percent in April, a steep rise but the smallest since November. Food costs rose 0.4 percent, half as fast as in March.

Gas accounted for about half of overall inflation in April. So a decline in the price of oil should hold down the increase in consumer prices for May.

"Natalie Portman may take a cue from Audrey Hepburn in motherhood"

NATALIE PORTMAN

Natalie Portman already has her Oscar, and now it may be time to let "Mommy" be the lead role in her life.

The actress is due to give birth to her first child this summer and while 2011 has already been a banner year for Portman, she may be ready to call it quits on the acting front. At least temporarily.

When it comes to legendary Hollywood moms, Portman says that she admires Audrey Hepburn, who made it a point to put motherhood first.

"Audrey made some good choices in life," she tells The Sun. "More and more I realize how unimportant it is to be in the history books or anything like that. Putting time and energy into your children, that's valuable. "

Wise words, indeed. No word yet on when she and Benjamin Millepied will tie the knot, but we wish the new family well on their journey!

"Schwarzenegger, Shriver separating after 25 years"

2011-05-10T07:40:00.000-07:00

source by:yahoo news
By MICHAEL R. BLOOD, AP Political Write

LOS ANGELES – It was a storybook marriage in 1986 on a spring weekend on Cape Cod that united a princess of an American political dynasty, Maria Shriver, and the gap-toothed muscle-clad movie star famous enough to be known by one name, Arnold.

In many ways, it was a pairing of opposites: Her uncle was a U.S. president; his father was an Austrian policeman. She was the rising star of a network TV news show; he was the pot-puffing star of "Pumping Iron." He was a Republican with a soft spot for Richard Nixon; her family was a pillar in the nation's Democratic establishment.

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Shriver announced their separation late Monday, cleaving a sometimes-turbulent 25-year relationship after "a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us," the couple said in a joint statement.

The breakup comes about four months after Schwarzenegger ended a bumpy, two-term run as California governor, a job his wife never wanted him to pursue. Since then, Schwarzenegger, 63, has been fashioning a role as an international advocate for green energy, giving speeches and lining up work in Hollywood. Shriver, 55, has guested-edited an edition of Oprah Winfrey's magazine but also talked about the stress of changing roles after serving as California's first lady.

The joint statement, issued by a spokesman for Schwarzenegger, said the two were working on the future of their relationship while living apart and they would continue to parent their four children — Katherine, 21, Christina, 19, Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13.

"After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together," the statement said.

It was not clear from the statement if either remained at their gated, canyon estate in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood, or whom the children were with. Schwarzenegger's spokesman, Daniel Ketchell, said he wouldn't answer questions beyond what was said in Monday's statement.

The former governor tweeted frequently during his recent travels to Brazil, Nigeria and France, but Shriver was not mentioned in his online updates from the road. Shriver, also active on social networks, posted three updates on her Twitter page on the day of their 25th wedding anniversary, April 26, but did not mention the milestone.

About a month before the anniversary, Shriver wrote on her Facebook page that she was going through a transition in her life.

"As you know, transitions are not easy. I'd love to get your advice on how you've handled transitions in your own life," she said in a video posted on YouTube.

"It's so stressful to not know what you're doing next. People ask you what are you doing and then they can't believe that you don't know what you're doing," she said.

Schwarzenegger has often said that Shriver, who is keenly attuned to the risks of a life in politics, initially was very upset about his plan to run for governor. But when Schwarzenegger announced his decision on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" in August 2003, he said his wife stood by his decision.

During Schwarzenegger's time in office, Shriver and the couple's children never moved to Sacramento, preferring their secluded estate a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. Schwarzenegger never settled in Sacramento, choosing instead to commute by private jet between his home and the state capitol.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver long presented a gilded partnership that crossed politics, Hollywood and media. They are known for charitable work, and he also founded a committee with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell to encourage road, bridge and other infrastructure development.

Shriver, the daughter of the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, left her job as an NBC News correspondent after Schwarzenegger took office.

In a May 2009 commencement speech at the University of Southern California, Schwarzenegger alluded to the powerful influence Shriver had on his life. He said when people ask him the secret to success, "I say, number one, come to America. Number two, work your butt off. And number three, marry a Kennedy."

As the state's first lady, Shriver ran an annual women's conference that attracted a long list of business, political and entertainment luminaries, along with an audience of thousands. She also was credited with overhauling the California Museum in downtown Sacramento, and, with Schwarzenegger, starting the California Hall of Fame.

In 2007, Shriver said she wouldn't resume a TV news career after the media circus surrounding Anna Nicole Smith's accidental drug overdose.

"It was then that I knew that the TV news business had changed and so had I," she said at the time. In a 2009 interview with The Associated Press, she said "I'm too much of a free spirit" to consider running for elective office.

Shriver stood by her husband during his campaign after the Los Angeles Times reported accusations that he had a history of groping women; Schwarzenegger later said he "behaved badly sometimes."

The breakup comes months after the death of Shriver's father, Peace Corps founder and former vice presidential candidate Sargent Shriver, in January.

LATEST NEWS:The Health Benefits of Rice,,,?

2011-05-07T09:36:00.000-07:00

SOURCE BY:THIRDAGE

Talk about the merits of white rice with folks who pay attention to their diets, and chances are the decision will be a split one. Some will think rice is healthy and a good choice for keeping weight down. Others will believe it’s an unhealthy dish that packs on the pounds. What’s the truth?

First, some background: Rice has fed more people, for a longer period of time, than any other crop on the face of the earth. It can be traced back to 2500 BC. Since it thrives in variety of climates and landscapes, it is the most eaten food on the planet. A whopping three billion people consume rice on an everyday basis.

However, the kind of white rice the average American eats (and we consume individually less than 25lbs. a year) is milled rice hat has had its husk removed. This is done largely to prevent spoilage and to extend the storage life of the grain. After milling, the rice is then polished resulting in a seed with a bright, white, shiny appearance. The problem is this polishing process removes important nutrients.
However, white rice is often enriched with some of the nutrients stripped from it during its processing. For example, it’s always enriched with B-1, B-3 and iron because that’s required by law in the United States.
On the plus side, white rice is not fattening if you eat a proper portion. On the downside, it rates high on the glycemic scale and that increases the blood sugar level in our bodies. For this reason, rice is never recommended for people with sugar issues.

If you enjoy rice, especially with a healthy meal like stir-fried vegetables, and want to keep it as part of your diet, there are ways to get the most benefits out of this simple, inexpensive food. Here’s how:
--One serving should be measured as one cup of cooked rice. That comes to 204 calories.
--Boil the rice with excess water and drain the water after the rice is cooked to keep the starch levels low.
--Eat steamed rice or boiled rice -- not fattening fried rice.
--Add a fibrous food along with it for faster digestion such as vegetables or tofu.

"Why Women Cheat the Day After Mother's Day"

2011-05-07T09:30:00.000-07:00

SOURCE BY:ThirdAge

Most of us have never associated Mother’s Day with unfaithful women, but there appears to be a connection – especially if men don’t remember their women on that sentimental holiday.

According to the New York Post, the day following Mother’s Day is the second most popular day women start cheating—or at least looking to cheat. The number one day, as if you hadn’t guessed, is Valentine’s Day.

Women who stray aren’t necessarily looking for sensational sex. They just want to be appreciated. The Post quoted Marie, 52, a woman from New Jersey who went on the prowl after her husband failed to give her anything for Mother’s Day. Even her kids gave her cards, and we know how reluctant kids are to buy cards.

The cost of bin Laden: $3 trillion over 15 years

2011-05-07T08:24:00.000-07:00

SOURCE BY: Tim Fernholz and Jim Tankersley
National Journal

The most expensive public enemy in American history died Sunday from two bullets.
As we mark Osama bin Laden's death, what's striking is how much he cost our nation—and how little we've gained from our fight against him. By conservative estimates, bin Laden cost the United States at least $3 trillion over the past 15 years, counting the disruptions he wrought on the domestic economy, the wars and heightened security triggered by the terrorist attacks he engineered, and the direct efforts to hunt him down.
What do we have to show for that tab? Two wars that continue to occupy 150,000 troops and tie up a quarter of our defense budget; a bloated homeland-security apparatus that has at times pushed the bounds of civil liberty; soaring oil prices partially attributable to the global war on bin Laden's terrorist network; and a chunk of our mounting national debt, which threatens to hobble the economy unless lawmakers compromise on an unprecedented deficit-reduction deal.
All of that has not given us, at least not yet, anything close to the social or economic advancements produced by the battles against America's costliest past enemies. Defeating the Confederate army brought the end of slavery and a wave of standardization—in railroad gauges and shoe sizes, for example—that paved the way for a truly national economy. Vanquishing Adolf Hitler ended the Great Depression and ushered in a period of booming prosperity and hegemony. Even the massive military escalation that marked the Cold War standoff against Joseph Stalin and his Russian successors produced landmark technological breakthroughs that revolutionized the economy.

"Bin Laden death sparks new talk over Patriot Act"

2011-05-07T08:18:00.000-07:00

SOURCE BY:LAURIE KELLMAN

WASHINGTON – Freshman Republican Randy Hultgren had no problem voting against extending the Patriot Act in February. But the death of Osama bin Laden, just weeks before part of the terrorist-fighting law expires, raises new questions for the Illinois congressman.
"It hasn't changed my mind, not yet," Hultgren said this week. "I want to see that we're doing it in a careful way, that we're seeing results from it."
There's no indication that the mission to take out bin Laden relied on the Patriot Act, which was designed after the Sept. 11 attacks to find terrorists inside the U.S. But the afterglow of the operation's success shined new light on the nature of the terrorist threat nearly a decade after the attacks bin Laden inspired.
Interviews with House and Senate experts on the law, from both parties, indicate this week's developments may have marginalized any effort to tighten the Patriot Act's protections and perhaps scuttled Senate plans to hold a full week of debate on the bill.
From its inception, the law's increased surveillance powers have been criticized by both liberals and conservatives as infringements on free speech rights and protections against unwarranted searches and seizures.

Latest:Health Buzz: Coffee, Sex Increase Aneurysm Risk.,,,^_^

Coffee, Sex, Exercise Among Triggers for Ruptured Brain Aneurysm

Having sex or drinking coffee could rupture a brain aneurysm, new research suggests. When people with aneurysms--or weak spots in blood vessels in their brains--are under stress, those spots are liable to rip open, causing a stroke. Eight activities increase that risk, according to a study published Thursday in Stroke, based on an analysis of 250 patients who had a stroke resulting from an aneurysm. The findings suggest that drinking coffee increases aneurysm rupture risk by 10.6 percent, followed by vigorous exercise (7.9 increased risk), nose-blowing (5.4 percent), and having sex (4.3 percent). Other triggers include being startled, getting angry, and straining on the toilet. The common factor between the activities, the researchers said, is that they all produce sudden, brief increases in blood pressure. The risk associated with each trigger lasts about one hour. People with aneurysms should take protective steps, like drinking less coffee and treating constipation, according to the study.

"Moon Microbe Mystery Finally Solved"

2011-05-07T07:12:00.000-07:00

SOURCE BY:news.yahoo.com
SOURCE:Space.com

There has been a long-lived bit of Apollo moon landing folklore that now appears to be a dead-end affair: microbes on the moon.
The lunar mystery swirls around the Apollo 12 moon landing and the return to Earth by moonwalkers of a camera that was part of an early NASA robotic lander – the Surveyor 3 probe.
On Nov. 19, 1969, Apollo 12 astronauts Pete Conrad and Alan Bean made a precision landing on the lunar surface in Oceanus Procellarum, Latin for the Ocean of Storms. Their touchdown point was a mere 535 feet (163 meters) from the Surveyor 3 lander -- and an easy stroll to the hardware that had soft-landed on the lunar terrain years before, on April 20, 1967. [Video: Apollo 12 Visits Surveyor 3 Probe]
The Surveyor 3 camera was easy pickings and brought back to Earth under sterile conditions by the Apollo 12 crew. When scientists analyzed the parts in a clean room, they found evidence of microorganisms inside the camera.
In short, a small colony of common bacteria -- Streptococcus Mitis -- had stowed away on the device.
The astrobiological upshot as deduced from the unplanned experiment was that 50 to 100 of the microbes appeared to have survived launch, the harsh vacuum of space, three years of exposure to the moon's radiation environment, the lunar deep-freeze at an average temperature of minus 253 degrees Celsius, not to mention no access to nutrients, water or an energy source. [Photos: Our Changing Moon]
Now, fast forward to today.
NASA's dirty little secret?
A diligent team of researchers is now digging back into historical documents -- and even located and reviewed NASA's archived Apollo-era 16 millimeter film -- to come clean on the story.
As it turns out, there's a dirty little secret that has come to light about clean room etiquette at the time the Surveyor 3 camera was scrutinized.
"The claim that a microbe survived 2.5 years on the moon was flimsy, at best, even by the standards of the time," said John Rummel, chairman of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) Panel on Planetary Protection. "The claim never passed peer review, yet has persisted in the press -- and on the Internet -- ever since." [Coolest New Moon Discoveries]
The Surveyor 3 camera-team thought they had detected a microbe that had lived on the moon for all those years, "but they only detected their own contamination," Rummel told SPACE.com.
A former NASA planetary protection officer, Rummel is now with the Institute for Coastal Science & Policy at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.
Rummel, along with colleaguesJudith Allton of NASA’s Johnson Space Center and Don Morrison, a former space agency lunar receiving laboratory scientist, recently presented their co-authored paper: "A Microbe on the Moon? Surveyor III and Lessons Learned for Future Sample Return Missions."
Poor space probe hygiene
Their verdict was given at a meeting on "The Importance of Solar System Sample Return Missions to the Future of Planetary Science," in March at The Woodlands,Texas, sponsored by the NASA Planetary Science Division and Lunar and Planetary Institute.
"If 'American Idol' judged microbiology, those guys would have been out in an early round," the research team writes of the way the Surveyor 3 camera team studied the equipment here on Earth. Or put more delicately, "The general scene does not lend a lot of confidence in the proposition that contamination did not occur," co-author Morrison said.
For example, participants studying the camera were found to be wearing short-sleeve scrubs, thus arms were exposed. Also, the scrub shirt tails were higher than the flow bench level … and would act as a bellows for particulates from inside the shirt, reports co-author Allton.
Other contamination control issues were flagged by the researchers.
In simple microbiology 101 speak, "a close personal relationship with the subject ... is not necessarily a good thing," the research team explains.
All in all, the likelihood that contamination occurred during sampling of the Surveyor 3 camera was shown to be very real.
A cautionary tale
On one hand, Rummel emphasized that today’s methods for handling return samples are much more effective at detecting microbes.
However, the Surveyor 3 incident back then raises a cautionary flag for the future.
"We need to be orders of magnitude more careful about contamination control than was the Surveyor 3 camera-team. If we aren't, samples from Mars could be drowned in Earth life upon return, and in all of that 'noise' we might never have the ability to detect Mars life we may have brought back, too," Rummel said. "We can, and we must, do a better job with a Mars sample return mission."
Winner of this year's National Space Club Press Award, Leonard David has been reporting on the space industry for more than five decades. He is past editor-in-chief of the National Space Society's Ad Astra and Space World magazines and has written for SPACE.com since 1999
