A report to be released next month by the Center on Education Policy, based on interviews with officials in 46 states whose worst schools have been receiving the grants, concludes there are widespread doubts on whether changes resulting from the grants can be sustained. The center's president, John F. Jennings, said these concerns were based on fear that there would be no money to pay for the added services once the grants expired, as well as on "a history of low expectations for kids" in those schools. "Just injecting money for three years isn't going to immunize them forever," Mr. Jennings said.

One of my proudest possessions is the flag that the SEAL Team took with them on the mission to get bin Laden. On it are each of their names. Some may be Democrats. Some may be Republicans. But that doesn't matter. Just like it didn't matter that day in the Situation Room, when I sat next to Bob Gates – a man who was George Bush's defense secretary; and Hillary Clinton, a woman who ran against me for president. All that mattered that day was the mission. No one thought about politics. No one thought about themselves. One of the young men involved in the raid later told me that he didn't deserve credit for the mission. It only succeeded, he said, because every single member of that unit did their job – the pilot who landed the helicopter that spun out of control; the translator who kept others from entering the compound; the troops who separated the women and children from the fight; the SEALs who charged up the stairs. More than that, the mission only succeeded because every member of that unit trusted each other – because you can't charge up those stairs, into darkness and danger, unless you know that there's someone behind you, watching your back.

Andrew Adler, the owner of local publication the Atlanta Jewish Times, has apologized after suggesting that assassinating President Barack Obama is an option that should be considered by the Israeli government.

As reported by Gawker, Adler's article, written earlier this month, describes the urgency in protecting the Israeli people from threats such as Hamas and Hezbollah and argues that there are essentially only three options available to Israel: 1. attack Hezbollah and Hamas; 2. "order the destruction of Iran's nuclear facilities at all costs;" 3. assassinate Obama.

Swearing in ceremonies were held Sunday for Dunkirk's new Mayor A.J. Dolce and the Common Council members. Along with Dolce, City Judge Walter Drag gave the oath of office for Councilwoman at Large Stephanie Kiyak, 1st Ward Councilman Mike Michalski, 2nd Ward Councilman Bill Rivera, 3rd Ward Councilman Adelino Gonzalez and 4th Ward Councilwoman Stacy Szukala. During the Council's organizational meeting that followed the inauguration, all of Dolce's cabinet appointments were approved. The appointment of City Attorney Ronald Szot was approved, but by a narrow 3-2 vote. Council members Mike Michalski and Stacy Szukala expressed concerns over the $70,000 annual salary for the position. All other appointments were approved without opposition. “I am happy to be here,” Ms. Deba said through a translator. “I want to represent the Bronx, and make it known not just in the U.S., but throughout the world. She is good to her people. She welcomes people from around the world.”
It's been described as one of the poorest places in the United States always something negative is said about the South Bronx, a borough in New York City. But a diminutive marathoner from Ethiopia Buzunesh Deba that calls the Bronx her home changed the image winning the New York City Marathon only 4 seconds behind the winner Firehiwot Dado of Kenya last month November 6, 2011.
The Marathon expanded to the five boroughs in 1976, draws 45,000 runners from around the world and over 2 million spectators adding over $340 million of economic activity to the city.
Yesterday, Latino Sports who cheered Deba on her run through the Bronx and Hostos Community College honored her at a luncheon they both sponsored at the college
“When she ran through the Bronx, I missed her,” (Julio Pabon) he admitted. “Then people watching on TV and in Central Park started calling me. ‘Yo, your girl is moving up! Your girl might win! Wow, she was four seconds behind first place!’ If she had another 10 yards, she could have won.”

So that must be why they quickly performed a Muslim burial had thrown his body into the sea. Now all they have is the "inchoate" material because they failed to arrest bin Laden instead dropped his body at the bottom of the sea. Meanwhile, nearly 3000 Americans about 236 of them foreigners and over 400 NYC firefighters, police officers and Port Authority officers killed and 18 bodies still missing. Osama bin Laden should have been brought to justice similar to the Nazis Nuremberg Trials. It's hard to reconcile a President Obama who taught U.S. A. Constitutional Law with the above photo almost like watching the lynching of an African American instead it's a foreigner...who many believed deserved it, but a trial would have brought out the truth of why one of the greatest tragedies in American history had happened.

Waterfront Healthcare Center Will Remain Open

(Buffalo, NY) The Department of Health has named Specialty Care Group, a long term care provider based in the New York City area, as the receiver and new operator of Waterfront Healthcare Center, a 120 bed facility a part of the Kaleida Health system effective Monday, August 15.

In 2009 Kaleida planed to close the nursing home strong opposition from community... and the employees of Waterfront forced Kaleida to keep the facility open.... In March 2011, Specialty Care Group made an initial offer , but demanded deep wage and benefit cuts from employees...represented by 1199 Service Employees International Union overwhelmingly rejected the proposal.

... the Union and Specialty Care Group agreed to submit the dispute ..to binding arbitration held in late July, a decision expected from the arbitrator this week.

“The members of 1199 voted to go to arbitration, hoping for a fair settlement,” said Debbie Rivers, a C.N.A at Waterfront. “We are willing to make some sacrifices in order to keep Waterfront open... after deep cuts in Medicaid reimbursement rates from New York State. Four skilled nursing facilities have closed in Buffalo alone in the since 2007 eliminating over 700 jobs.

“Our members have fought hard to keep this facility open, even though they knew that to do so would likely mean accepting wage and benefit cuts,” said 1199 Vice-President Todd Hobler.
