A Happy Harvest Tradition to Remember

by Angela Rose

When the kids were little, October looked a little different in our home.
While many were planning costumes for Halloween night, our crew was setting the table for a “Happy Harvest Dinner”—a night of laughter, mystery menus, and memory-making.

Each year, the homeschool gang would arrive in their favorite fun, non-scary costumes, ready for a surprise sit-down meal. Parents secretly coordinated…

…the menu, then served each course like waiters in a fancy restaurant—only this one came with a twist.

At every place setting sat a mysterious menu. “Snow-Capped Mountains.” “Frog Toes.” “Flung Poo.” (Yes, really.)
Giggles filled the air as the kids made their selections—completely unaware of what they’d actually ordered.

“Snow-Capped Mountains” might turn out to be a scoop of vanilla ice cream—served as an appetizer!
“Pig Guts” could be a sausage link.
“Dirt Clods” might end up as baby carrots.

No one knew what was coming next, but joy filled the room as laughter echoed and plates arrived with the unexpected. The kids never forgot those nights. Honestly, neither did we as parents.

Because it wasn’t just about food—it was about family, faith, and fun.
A reminder that we don’t have to join every cultural celebration to create something worth remembering.

Deuteronomy 11:18 says,

“Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds… Teach them to your children, speaking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

That’s what those harvest dinners became—holy teachable moments disguised as play.
The giggles turned into conversations about gratitude, about God’s goodness, about how His Word covers every season—and what to teach about Halloween.

So this month, maybe set the table a little differently.
Light the candles, print out a silly menu, and gather your people around.
Laugh. Talk about God’s Word. Let His truth weave through the evening like the aroma of something warm in the oven.

Years from now, when your kids are grown and building homes of their own, they’ll remember the joy that filled your kitchen—and the peace that filled their hearts.

Create your own Happy Harvest Tradition this year—one that nourishes more than just the body.

xo-Angela

The Secret to Embracing Change

by Angela Rose

This past week, we had a few changes around here. Nothing earth-shattering or life-altering, but still, a few shifts made me stop and think. We hired a new yard guy, had the house deep cleaned, and—brace yourself—I downloaded Parallels to run a Windows program on my Mac. (Yes, this might qualify as monumental. LOL. )

But really, it wasn’t like we packed up and moved across the country, started a new job, or faced a major life event… Just a few tweaks to the day-to-day rhythm.

And yet, these small changes got me thinking: how do we know when it’s time for a change?

Drumroll, please…

We get uncomfortable.

Yep, that’s it. That’s the sign.

Here’s the thing: it had been over a month since the house had been deep cleaned. And by “deep cleaned,” I mean the kind of clean where you can feel the difference. The floors had dust bunnies so big they could’ve been mistaken for Texas tumbleweeds. (I wish I were kidding. )

The yard? Well, let’s just say the usual guy was phoning it in. Two days after he mowed, it looked like we hadn’t touched it in weeks. We were those neighbors.

And then there was the biofeedback machine. It only runs on Windows, and I’ve been a Mac girl for over 20 years. (Photographer life, you get it. #AppleForever ) But there I was, staring down the reality that if I wanted to use this thing, I’d have to figure out how to make it work.

Here’s what I realized: when the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of change, we’ll finally do something about it.

And where does that change start?

It starts in our thoughts.

I got tired of looking at the dusty floors and thinking, “Ugh, this is a mess. I wish I had help.” Or, “Who am I kidding? Even if I had time, I don’t want to clean these floors.” Finally, I stopped the mental spiral, picked up the phone, and called the house cleaner.

Then, after staring at the yard and thinking the same thing, I asked the cleaner if she knew anyone who did yard work. She did. I called them, and they came out the next day.

So now, I’m sitting in a clean house, smelling freshly mowed grass, and feeling like I just won the weekend. #SmallWins

But let me ask you: what in your life feels uncomfortable right now?

What’s causing you pain?

Is it the laundry? If you’re in the thick of raising kids, maybe it’s time to hire a college student to help with the laundry—or the kids—or both.

Is it finances? Maybe it’s time to start that business you’ve been dreaming about or ask God for a fresh idea if your plans have gone sideways.

Or maybe it’s a relationship. Is there someone in your life who’s draining you? (Even if their name isn’t “Negative Nelly.” ) It might be time to have a hard conversation—or, if they’re unwilling to meet you halfway, to move on.

Here’s the thing: pain isn’t always a bad thing.

Pain is a signal.

It’s the nudge that tells us something needs to change. Without it, we wouldn’t know to pull our hand off a hot stove, shake out a foot that’s fallen asleep, or call the dentist when we have a toothache.

But here’s the catch: sometimes we treat the pain instead of addressing the root cause.

It’s like the woman who went to the dentist with terrible jaw pain. The dentist told her, “You’ve got a rotten tooth. I need to pull it.” But she said, “Oh no, I don’t want that. Just give me something for the pain so I can go on my way.”

Sound familiar?

The problem comes when we keep doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. (Spoiler alert: that’s the definition of insanity. )

“When we accept anything abnormal long enough, it becomes our new normal.” – Will Marré

So, what’s your “new normal” that needs to change?

Here’s where the faith part comes in, friend. God doesn’t want us to stay stuck. He’s a God of abundance, not scarcity. He’s a God of freedom, not frustration. And He’s a God of new beginnings.

But here’s the thing: He’s not going to force us to change. He’s waiting for us to take the first step.

Grab a pen and paper. Journal it out. God says in Habakkuk 2:2, “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”

What’s the vision God has placed on your heart? …What’s the thing He’s been nudging you to change?

Maybe it’s your health.

Maybe it’s your finances.

Maybe it’s your relationships.

Whatever it is, I want to remind you that you don’t have to do it alone. God is with you every step of the way.

Change doesn’t have to be scary. It can bring good things—better living conditions, healthier finances, stronger relationships, and even peace of mind.

But here’s the truth: change isn’t change until you change.

So, friend, what’s one small step you can take today?

Pray about it. Write it down. And then take action.

You’ve got this. And more importantly, God’s got you.

I Believe in YOU!

The Pregnancy Emotion Rollercoaster

by Drenda Keesee

I just don’t feel like my husband loves me as much.**I’m so happy today, I could sing!
I can’t face the world today. I just want to go back to bed.
Did you hear how she said that in that tone of voice?
Ugh. I look so fat and ugly.

Ah. Emotions.

As women, it can seem like a never-ending battle to stay in control of them.

And they seem to be at their worst when we’re pregnant.

Crying at commercials and Facebook videos. Wanting to go off on the crazy driver next to you on the highway. Shedding happy tears when you see a cute elderly couple at the mall. We can be all over the map with our emotions at any given point during pregnancy.

That’s because pregnancy causes…

…many hormone levels to be raised, and these hormones affect your brain’s transmitters and your serotonin levels. And serotonin is what helps regulate your mood. Your progesterone, estrogen, and hCG hormone levels will all change drastically during pregnancy, helping to strengthen blood vessels, keep your baby attached in the womb, provide the building blocks for his or her tiny life, and much more.

These strong hormones are doing a job in your body, but they can also cause emotions to emerge that don’t always make sense, even though they feel very real. For some women, mood swings aren’t really a struggle, but for others, the swings can cause a lot of inconveniences or even full-out sob fests. That’s why it helps to not only be aware of what’s happening in your body but also to train yourself to stand strong when your emotions are causing feelings that don’t agree with what God says about you.

We women, can be hard on ourselves and feel guilty for not being overjoyed all nine months of pregnancy. But there’s nothing wrong with you if you have moments of sadness or tears. That’s normal. **Give yourself a break.

I heard one husband say that pregnancy makes his wife act like she has PMS all of the time. It doesn’t have to be like that; it can be a wonderful time of really connecting with each other and meeting each other’s needs.
It may be a time when a husband needs to learn to lay down his life for his wife, ministering to her needs and honoring her as the “weaker vessel”—the more emotional person in the relationship.

The bottom line is that it’s more important than ever to stay in love and in agreement with your spouse when you’re expecting an addition to your family.

Even though your emotions may be trying to pull you away from your spouse, you need to recognize that your husband needs you in this time too. You’re both about to embark on the journey of parenting a little one, and it will require more time and effort, but it will be the most rewarding thing you do together.
Just remember that you can still walk in love when your emotions are trying to drag you down.

What does love act like?

Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].

Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away. —1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (AMP)

ps…Are you looking for a good church? Be sure and listen on Saturday evening or catch the 3 services on Sunday for Faith Life Church!

Drenda Keesee’s contagious zeal and humorous personal experiences help make her ministry of spiritual, emotional, and relational wholeness one that will bless your life and spark a new fire in your spirit.

A wife of over 30 years and a mother of five children, Drenda has ministered at churches, seminars, and conferences, and through the mediums of television and radio, for more than 20 years.

Her books, The New Vintage Family, Better Than You Think, and She Gets It are available wherever books are sold. In these heartfelt books, Drenda shares her personal journey and the life lessons that have brought her to where she is today, as well as practical answers that all people need to live a joyful life.

Drenda and her husband Gary founded Faith Life Now, a ministry designed to spread the message of freedom in the areas of finances, faith, marriage, and family. Tune in for their weekly messages here. Faith Life Now hosts conferences worldwide and sponsors both Fixing the Money Thing, which Drenda co-hosts with her husband Gary and Drenda.

Through their own life experiences, the Keesee’s have found the principles from God’s Word to be powerful and effective. At one point, Drenda was a young, suicidal feminist with no hope of ever being “good enough” for her own standards of perfection. She never wanted the “inconvenience” of a husband or children, and she was on her own path to success. But the stress of trying to achieve perfection and perform for love left her broken and used. She had success, but it was nothing compared to the pain and loneliness it had also brought.

That’s when God got a hold of her heart. It was there—at her lowest point—that she found the One who accepted and loved her, faults and all. Since that transformation, Drenda has had a passion to reach women who find themselves where she once was.

She married Gary after attending college, and there she found herself in a personal boot camp of sorts. She says, “I cried and told God, ‘I can do anything but be a wife and mother.’” She committed to learning how to do it God’s way. Through the many years of raising their children and struggling to make ends meet, Drenda learned from their mistakes. “I didn’t know how to be a wife and mother, but God saved our marriage, taught us how to parent our children for success, showed us how to have financial success, and then the irony of all ironies, He called us to ministry.” It’s truly because of these life experiences that Drenda can now share so many insightful principles for people who are now going through the same struggles.

by Diana Scothorn

The Bible says not one word the Lord has spoken will fail. I like to say it this way… Not one good thing the Lord has spoken will fail in the House of Scothorn.

God is faithful, and His Word is true. When I read my bible, I fill in my name with God’s Promises and make it personal.

There is intimacy when…

We receive God’s Word as a direct word to us. We can put our name in place of every promise, believe it, and receive it.

No weapon formed against my body, family, home, or finances, will prosper. I am the head and not the tail! I am blessed going in and blessed going out. I lend and do not borrow. I am disciplined, spirit, soul, and body. I owe no man anything but to love him.

All my children shall be taught of the Lord! I am healed, and I walk in divine health! I am prosperous! I pay close attention to the words I speak; they are HEALTH and HEALING to all my flesh! If God is for Diana (fill in your name), who can be against me?

Withhold means to hold back, to refrain from giving, or to deduct. God cannot refrain from doing good. He wants to ADD to our life, NOT SUBTRACT! GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME! He is the sum total of goodness.

You cannot separate the goodness of God from God. That is who He is. He is a Good God. He is True to Who He is; His goodness cannot be withheld!

An ocean cannot refrain from being a vast body of salt water covering 3/4 of the earth’s surface. The force of the ocean waves cannot be withheld. Likewise, God cannot withhold any promise He has spoken to those who believe and receive.

When God formed us in our mother’s womb, He planned a good life. We, however, must not refrain from receiving. We have to separate bad memories from our good God!

People let us down, husbands and wives withhold love, bosses withhold money, children withhold correction, and people withhold Godly standards, but God will never withhold good!

He is good and wants to add good things to our life! Every word He spoke to us, He will perform! We can confidently stand that God is good, and His goodness cannot refrain!

We have to separate what has “been done to us,” from what “God has done for us.” When we receive God’s Goodness today, He will not withhold ANY GOOD THING He has prepared for us tomorrow.

God’s word will not fail. There is not one GOOD THING God, will withhold from our life. Just remember… His promises are yes and amen, and all we have to do is believe and receive.

Just shoot me and call me dead. Because then I’d have a good reason to lay here!!! Have you ever felt like that? What do you do? Coffee? Energy drinks? These are the options we are most familiar with however, these “friends” of ours actually drain our energy reserves and damage long-term health. Let’s face it. We all like a pick-me-up, but let’s be smart about it and think long-term! Life is non-stop and we need our bodies to fire on all pistons. Energy is not an option! It’s a MUST! But coffee and energy drinks rev us up then drop us with a thud! These sugar-laced caffeinated drinks actually tax our adrenal glands in order to give that boost … and trust me, your adrenal glands don’t like being taxed as much as you do!! Get the picture?

I hear you, though! “Don’t mess with my coffee/energy drinks!” But let’s seriously consider our long-term health. Coffee will boost the ability to move through the day, but a high price is paid later when the caffeine wears off. Eventually, the caffeine will not even give the boost it once boasted and this is when you know your adrenals can’t pay the tax collector. They have nothing left to give.

Let me offer a solution to that need for energy.

It’s called…

En-R-Gee.

It’s safe, health-building, energy giving and does not tax the adrenal glands like coffee! This essential oil blend also boosts mental alertness and increases circulation. It’s a win-win and way better than the long-term deficit coffee will give your body.

Take care of your body and use En-R-Gee when you need that extra boost to get you through the day. And we won’t have to shoot you and call you dead so you have a reason to lay there!!

Results Follow Your Words

by Drenda Keesee

Spiritual conditioning is critical, and this story from my friend, Patty speaks volumes about the power of our words…

I was sitting in a church service and the pastor was teaching on Proverb 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
Right in the middle of the sermon, a warning rose up inside of me: You need to stop saying that you do not want to have any boys.

At the time, I had two daughters and worked full time. I thought my time and responsibilities were stretched as far as possible. No offense to boys, but I had two girls, and from what I had observed, boys were a bit too rambunctious for me. I had truly determined in my heart and spoken out loud that I didn’t want to have boys. But in that moment, I changed my heart and repented.

What I didn’t realize was…

…that I had been putting laws into effect—laws of death.

God can’t go against His laws. What I had been speaking may very well have prevented me from having any more children.

I realized that when I desired more children, I likely would’ve had disappointed faith; and my heart would have been crying, “Why is God not hearing me? Why am I having miscarriages and not having another baby?”

I am convinced that learning the power of the tongue saved me from miscarriages and emotional hurts.

Psalm 37:23 says that God directs the steps of a righteous man or woman. The next step God planned for me was learning to put His promises inside of me. I wrote Scriptures and placed them on a door where I would see and speak them daily. I learned how good God is, and I wanted to be submitted to Him.

I created a poster with several Scriptures, including Psalm 127:1, which says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”

I love that Scripture! I didn’t want my strength and knowledge to build my house (my life); I wanted God to build it! I kept writing the rest of Psalm 127:3-5:

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.
Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

I wrote those Scriptures and then stared at the words, “quiver full.” I honestly remember thinking how strange it was that I wrote that Scripture, but I didn’t want to rewrite the entire poster I had made! Ha!

So, the promise of children being a reward and having a quiver full of them became a part of my mindset, even before I wanted a third child.

Sure enough, my quiver is now full, with three girls and FIVE boys! (God has a sense of humor.)
—Patty

That’s just a portion of my friend Patty’s story.

What I really want you to get from her story is the importance of spiritual conditioning. In every area of your life.

Spiritual conditioning is critical.

You MUST condition yourself to what God’s Word says about you.
• Put poster boards with Scriptures around your house and read them each day.
• Put Scriptures and the promises of God on note cards around your house, or on doors like Patty did, and read them each day.
• Write positive confessions based on the Word and read it out loud each day.
• Stand on the Word.
• Guard your heart. Pay attention to the words you’re speaking, what you listen to others say, what goes into your ears, and what goes into your heart at all times.

When you’ve planted God’s Word in your heart, it takes root. If you continue to water it and focus on it, that seed will grow into a mighty tree (or a full quiver.)
