Bell with a Best of Utah award in 2010, he was promptly canned from his weekend slot by KSL Newsradio—related? It’s open to speculation (but not really). In summer 2011, Bell came back louder and left-er with a new roundtable crew (including Jake Winegar, Forrest Shaw, J.C. Carter and Eric Ethington) and The Left Show, a weekly self-produced podcast that takes the piss out of conservative politics, local and national, with equal parts vitriol and comedy, making for an hour-plus “radio” show (complete with swear jar) somewhere between The Daily Showand Real Time With Bill Maher. Making fun of Utah Republicans is an easy job, but someone has to do it.

Oh, the political games!

It’s likely the President will give the go ahead today for the SOUTHERN leg on the Keystone pipeline to be extended to the gulf coast. He’ll announce it on a campaign stop, and it the process give the GOP part of what they want.. but will the GOP thank him? Will they be indifferent? NO! They’re already in attack mode, proving once again that President Obama can’t do anything they can agree with… not even the things they want

Here’s some truth: More refining in the gulf won’t bring down the price of gas. As of late last year the U.S. began exporting more oil than we import. The tar-sand oil being brought through Keystone is 4/5th’s contracted by foreign nations, the remaining 1/5th by US companies and is set for export. There is little in the way of jobs.

Yes, the GOP is selling America. When the President, for political reasons, gives them a helping hand they bite it. We’re being feed so many lies and unfortunately so many of you believe them. It’s time to wake up America! Corporations are using the GOP to extract wealth and keep us divided.

This Garbage Day average Americans are being taken to the curb. I ask you, are you trash?

Today is a sad day indeed. Utah’s greatest Democrat passed away comfortably in his sleep last night. Todd Taylor, 46, an icon of Utah and national politics, served as the Executive Director for the Utah State Democratic Party for over 20 years. His tenure made him the longest serving Party Executive Director in the country. He was our compass, advisor, mentor, and wiseman. His leadership, vision, and dry sense of humor will be remembered and honored as long as we have Democrats in Utah.

Thank you to the Democrats, Independents, and Republicans who have been overwhelming in their support. It is incredibly moving to watch Utahns from all backgrounds share their stories of Todd on Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #toddtaylor. Here are some of the thoughts people have shared:

Todd served as the Executive Director of the Utah State Democratic Party since 1992. He was first interested in politics following his career as a Chiropractor and advocating for the Utah Chiropractic Association. He was active in campaigns his entire life, including Campaign Manager for J. Dell Holbrook for Davis County Commission, and Kem Gardner for Governor. He will be missed.

First, to whomever emailed me the invite to this morning’s Romero campaign event – there is a difference between “YOUR” and “YOU’RE” – learn it, use it, love it.

Second, because this is a weird event with odd timing and a strange subject matter, I have to assume that that Sen. Romero is holding this conversation to talk about why he allowed his senate district to be redistricted into extinction because he decided to run for County Mayor – and he’s using Sen. Jones as cover.

Democrats I’ve talked to about redistricting don’t find this abandonment the biggest sin committed by Democrats during the Gerrymander session – with the exception of those that actually lived in Sen. Romero’s district, they’re not happy at all – but at least in the top three.

Anyway … Sens. Romero and Jones are holding a quiet meeting up at the capitol this morning, and, if you have the time, RSVP and go see what they have to say about The 2011 Official Utah GOP Gerrymander and how it impacts folks that lived in old Senate districts 4 and 7.

JC, Forrest bring Poli-hotty Janneke House, all the way from Boston, by the studio to chat about the Gingrich v. There’s something about Christmas Season that makes the majority of good, God-fearing Republican folks go all sentimental – reveling in nostalgia for happy remembrances, to mourn for the dearly departed, or to build a towering rage against the audacity of the different, the poor and the ethnic.

Merry Christmas?

The War on Christmas– that invisible fiction with which right-wing crazies warm their paranoid narcissism – has readied those who chose anger, hate and bigotry as their festive holiday garb to celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, Love and Tolerance – Jesus Christ.

Happy Hanukkah?

The Eight Nights of Hanukkah – The festival of lights – always a stone in the shoe of those who fight on the pretend frontlines against the War on Christmas. They claim to love to children of Israel, but only to perpetuate the Armageddon in their book of Revelations. The Festival of lights is not a celebration of their GOP Jesus – and therefore Happy Holidays remains the coded phrase of the enemy.

Kwanzaa, Maybe?

To new, too confusing, too ethnic. Every good Republican knows that Jesus only loves the descendants of European whites – Why else would he have made South Carolina or Tennessee? Kwanzaa is a festivity for African-Americans to celebrate the season without shame or fear of embracing their history, their culture, and themselves. This is secular and therefore should not be allowed.

When the founders wrote the constitution – their original intent was to form a country that was inclusive for all the people of the world. There were mistakes, and there were missteps but the original intent was clear – America is a place of safety – a land of freedom – a country where the different is free to BE.

There are too many people in this country using a false and hate-thirsty Jesus as a weapon against those that have failed to give genuflection to their bigoted ideology. We have become – against the advice of Franklin Roosevelt – a country ruled by fear.

I have a hard time finding Holiday Spirit – let alone Christmas Cheer – when members of my human family are under attack. I do not care for the Republican tone that Freedom of Religion means freedom for American Right Wing Christians to persecute, target and hate in the name of a of a Christ that they seem unable to respect, let alone worship.

I hope this holiday season, when so may of us seem aware of our better selves, that you can find the courage to stand up to oppression, to fight against bigotry and to embrace that most important of Christian teaching, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you

From the whole family here at the left show, I want to wish you a happy stack of whatever the hell you want to call the holidays.

This plan isn't necessarily opposed by the GOP, but their spin machine is in full force. They want it to be "paid for" (which is a good thing) by the middle class (which is a bad thing). They are trying to suggest that this is more spending when it fact the Bill would be paid for by a 3% income tax on people making over a million dollars a year starting at income over $700k.

Everything the GOP does, from gutting and environmental and consumer protections to lowering taxes, their fight against immigration, and their attempts to legislate morality, are disguised attempts to make the rich richer. Even if it means raising the burden on the middle class, raising the national debt, borrowing more money, and completely destroying our country. 

GOP, meet Garbage Day. You're nothing but a pile of rancid trash.

With the Utah Democratic Party convention last Saturday – and a lot of clean-up from various campaigns - added to a couple of sound issues I had with Sunday’s recording – well, that’s all behind us now and here is the podcast.

This third and last of the practice episodes shows a genuine attempt to set aside the headiness of having no FCC regulations that led to the … um – shall we say: excessive potty mouths of the last two weeks. Well, we blew it. There is still swearing this week, just a lot less gratuitous f-wording. Instead we shifted to other swears. Hey – it’s all about variety!
