COVID-19 Announcement - The Rocks Markets and Our Online Shop

With the world going into lockdown and more tightening announced every day we have made some changes in response. We will continue to implement changes as they are announced and are enthusiastically committed to ensuring the highest health and safety standards. Here's the information on what has been implemented immediately:

The Rocks Markets

The NSW Government and Rocks Authority have indefinitely cancelled The Rocks Markets. This is in response to the advice on mass gatherings and social distancing. While it makes it very tough for many of the stall-holders (including us) to survive, we fully support this decision and hope that on the other side we can build a better brighter future for the Markets. Clearly - until further notice we will not participate in any other point of sale activities, including warehouse sales.

Our Warehouse

We have closed our warehouse to everyone. Ric and I have taken over all packing and shipping operations personally and will enter a self-impose policy of isolation of the physical area and our home as well. We hope this ensures we remain healthy and COVID19 free during the crisis. A complex and difficult decision considering the festivities my family has planned around my 80th birthday on the 14 April. We will celebrate this milestone when it is safe to do so. And as my son continues to reinforced - I have even cancelled my hairdressing appointment until we get the all clear.

Packing and Infection Control

Our warehouse and packing environment are under the strictest infection and control procedures ensuring that once you have ordered - the products will be packed safely. Once sealed the contents should remain free from pathogens until you open them your end.

Check your Pack When It Arrives

When your package arrives we would ask you to do a couple of quick safety measures:

Before you touch the package give the packaging a wipe with an antibacterial solution. This will ensure anything that has gotten on the package will be cleaned.
Check that there are no rips or damage to the integrity of the packing. Please let us know if you find any damage immediately. Don't open it if you feel that the package has been compromised in any way - and contact us straight away to organise a replacement.
Once you have unpacked your delivery dispose of the packaging immediately.

Shipping

Our shipping providers pick up from the warehouse and there is no person to person contact required. We will ensure there is no contact with delivery people and all social isolation recommendations are observed in any human to human contact we need to conduct in shipping and restocking our store.

A personal note from us

We would like to extend our deep felt appreciation and thanks to all our customers who love our famous licorice and who have continued to order it online. In doing so you are keeping a small business alive during these very uncertain times.

We will continue to keep you up to date with all the developments here at The Licorice Shop and while it remains possible to ship our delicious sweets - we will.

Please be advised of our amended trading hours for this week - we are now not trading on Friday or Friday night but will be trading on Saturday, day and night, and Sunday until 5pm. ROCKS MARKET NEWS FOR NEXT TWO WEEKENDS

Over the next two weekends - 31 January, 1, 2 February and 7, 8, 9 February, we will be celebrating Lunar Chinese New Year a little late owing to Australia Day weekend last week. The markets will trade on both Fridays and Saturdays until 9pm and both Sundays until 5pm. There will be lots of entertainment including the Lion Dancers so come along and join the fun - we will be trading on all of these days and nights.

Hi Folks - a bit late I know - to let you know that the Rocks Markets have been cancelled for today, Sunday (again), due to predicted high winds - we were there Friday and Saturday and the winds were a bit scary to say the least. Sorry about that but it is out of our control. BUT - you don't have to miss out on your supply - you can order online and have it (if you live in Sydney), by Tuesday as we send all Sydney orders out by next day delivery express. And look at what you can save by not coming to the city - the frustration of dealing with the uncertainty of the light rail project, the tolls on the way, parking fees, the risk of being booked by our ever vigilant parking people and the ever increasing cost of fuel. By ordering online you pay (for Australian deliveries only) a maximum of $10 postage which is payable for orders under $45 - and for all orders over $45 we pay the postage. I know you miss out of seeing Ric tell his stories, but you can catch up next time - he will still be telling his stories and perhaps a few new ones as well. Hopefully, if the weather is kind to us, we will be trading next week on Friday/Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night and Sunday. The night trading is until 9pm each night Hope to see you either online or at our stall next week.

The markets have just been cancelled for today and tonight due to high winds. We were at the Rocks when management made the decision to cancel and it was certainly the right decision. Conditions were dangerous and the riggers were faced with an impossible task whilst attempting to erect the canopy We hope for a better day tomorrow, Sunday 14 July with trading expected to be 10am to 9pm. We have some exciting new products over the last few weeks. Available here online or at our st and at The Rocks Market each Saturday and Sunday. Our new lines are: Dark chocolate coated ginger - hand made to order; dark chocolate coated ginger nougat balls; milk chocolate coated coconut nougat balls; an old favourite is back - Tu Cinnful; at last we have Pontefract cakes; sugar free black licorice; sugar free black ginger licorice; sugar free black chilli licorice; sugar free black gold licorice; sugar free hot chilli licorice; sugar free dutch coin.

Now for the St Patrick Day weekend. Although we trade at The Rocks each weekend, there is some doubt regarding the St Patrick's Day weekend. The upper management of The Rocks precinct has decided to allot the George Street market area to the Mercantile Hotel - half the canopy on Saturday and the whole canopy on the Sunday for a sausage sizzle and drinkfest for the St Patricks Day weekend. Due to this minimisation of the markets, we are not guaranteed of trading on that weekend and are on an extensive wait list. Please check with us close to the weekend of 16, 17 March to see if we have been accepted. But then you can always order our licorice online and if in Sydney have it delivered the next day by express post. Thank you one and all for your ongoing patronage both in person at the Rocks Market and online and quite often both. Lovely to meet our online customers at the markets and put faces to names.

As we are not participating in the Lunar Festival we have been relocated to the top of George Street, just near the Harbour Bridge, where we started all those years ago selling chocolate. Please be advised that we are not at the Rocks Markets this weekend. As vehicles are not permitted into the market area for packup, we have decided that the effort of pushing our stands up the street to load onto our van is fraught with danger of accident. We have done it in the past and it has always been difficult. So, we have reluctantly decided not to work this weekend at the markets BUT we are still working at our warehouse, so if you order online your parcel will be posted on Monday - if in Sydney, by Express mail - next day delivery. Everywhere else by normal Australia Post mail. We will be at the markets next weekend, so see you there. Don't forget, we have moved owing to the construction on our old site, so we are now just past the Rocks Square, at the top of the steps and opposite the Italian Restaurant - Caminettos. After many months of being out of stock, last night we received a delivery of our famous and delicious LICORICE PINWHEELS. They are available immediately online and will be at The Rocks Market from this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. We are not trading on Friday markets, but are always available online.

Thanks to all those people who braved the heat last Friday - it was certainly a scorcher. At least this Friday and Friday night won't be as hot and it will be even cooler on Saturday and Sunday, so come along to the Rocks Market - find us opposite The Lowenbrau German Restaurant and sample our wares.
