iPhones and me (the tragic story)

Living in the information age without a smart phone is a little bit like being a cave man. Except this cave man is a fossil, in a museum, in the twenty first century. When people hear I don't have an iPhone a glum demeanor befalls them and they look upon me like I just ate a dead roadkill porcupine. Throughout my exploration into the college realm I have discovered living in the dark ages is starting to become a draw back. Probably one of the worst things with this information age is an inability to brag.

This can cause untold problems because I may sometimes lightly massaged facts about my life.

Seeing how my entire family has dumb phones when we get lost on road trips we swing in to buy a map at gas stations. Funny thing is that people with smart phones assume everyone has a smart phone. So guess what happens in gas stations! No Map. The people running the station then try to explain to us the concept of an iPhone and all about a GPS navigation app that comes pre-installed onto it. I am no technological idiot; but for some reason if you don't have an iPhone then you qualify as one. Now I'm not saying smart phones don't have a place in this world but, I want a map gosh dang it and I can choose to have on if I want.

Another awkward situation iPhones have caused is what I like to call “OnlyguyatthetablewithoutaniPhone syndrome”. This plagues me especially at lunch breaks with friends.

Not to say iPhones don't have their place (I mean who wouldn't want to watch a video of a kitten while talking to a friend) but it has got to end! Or at least end it when your around me because I am kind of old fashioned that way. Oh I also finally found the word for grammar freaks out there trying to correct my punctuation on my blog. A person who believes it is their destiny to stamp out all spelling and punctuation mistakes at the cost of popularity, self-esteem and mental well-being.

I would like to not the last part in the description. COST of popularity, self-esteem and mental well-being (I'm just saying).

It's been a little while oh loyal followers but I will see if I can post more often.

The Hunger Games Survival Guide

Hello people, plants and monkeys ,I say this because plants have feelings and people seem to think monkeys have something to do with our existence (keep on typing out Shakespeare's work monkeys!). I am writing to say I have been procrastinating on my blog until I got some inspiration. Luckily I have a loyal follower who has requested that I write a blog about the Hunger Games. If you have no idea what the Hunger Games is about your most possibly blind, mute, and deaf (and if you are reading this blog then you know about the Hunger Games). But just to be safe the Hunger Games is a book about kids who have special talents that they use to kill other kids (nice isn't it). Our family happens to own five copies of the first book, and the trilogy. I thought approximately 36 seconds on what to write, and came up with a guide on how to survive the hunger games.
First comes title!!!

STEP ONE: Don't get chosen. It sounds simple if you don't get chosen then you don't die.

STEP TWO: If step one fails and you have to participate in the Hunger Games go looking like you just got hit by a train. With any luck they might do some sort of surgical enhancement on you, to make you stronger.

STEP THREE: If step one fails and step two fails then you must come up with a obscure talent that may or may not impress the judges.

STEP FOUR: Don't kill any of the people who might possibly send you gifts.

STEP FIVE: Try to make friends with the giant mutant killer zombie squirrels.

STEP SIX: When in the games there are three ways that sponsors will send you presents.
1) You actually have a talent (I do not)
2) You are good at kissing people in order to make people like you (moms don't count)
3) You have good looks (nailed that one).

STEP SEVEN: This is possibly the most important step in all of the steps to survive the Hunger Games. In order to survive you must win the games. Its harder than it sounds.

If you follow these guidelines you have a (1/24) GREAT chance to WIN!

Job Drama

Hello People Animals and Aliens reading this blog. And also Plants since you do have feelings, although it is unlikely you are reading this blog. It has been a while since I have posted my last post so I thought I might catch you up on my greatest life achievements in the past months (and some of my not so great achievements).
For starters I got a job. Wait!.... not just one but TWO! Parents have a strange way of handling things when there son gets his first (multiple) jobs. Mom handles things just like this, except I must dull down how she really is in my cartoons so as not to alarm anybody.

And this happened many days in a row for a long time until I started both of my jobs.
Dad on the other hand had a totally different reaction to my news.

Both reactions to the news was more different than I had thought it would be. Besides the fact that my dad getting me ready to leave the house and my mom is wanting me to revert to becoming a two year old so she can raise me again my job's have been going good. No serious injuries to the body or my mental status have happed wile on the job so I think I am fine.

A random and slightly crazy blog

For starters my friend has started up a blog that currently has no posts (yet), that will (most likely) be awesome (you will find it in the blogs I like section). Math Amoeba

First it started with the zero in primordial soup.

Eventually it grew into more advanced math equations.

The now more advanced amoeba wanted to get out of the soup and onto land.

And it did. Then its purpose was to hunt me down and eventually eat me.

I was able to fight them off at first. But then they got bigger.

And bigger.
By the time I get to Einstein's theory of relativity I think something like the picture bellow will happen to me.

Diamond story

Many people have never been offered the chance for fame and glory. And those who are offered it usually take it. This is my story on what happened that fateful day. It was a summer morning; my friends and I were on the mountain (on my friend’s property). I believe we were playing chicken. Seeing how close the other would get to the edge of the rock cliff before jumping back to safety. I was waiting my turn in line when I saw a glimmer in the rocks.

I went over to investigate and to my surprise I found something.

As it turns out I am a very convincing liar because it was decided that I would get 60% and they would split 40%. Later on that day we found almost a wheelbarrow full of these diamonds. We went inside to show the parents.

I didn’t believe them at first and I went to look it up. Sure enough they were quartz crystals. It was a real bummer that they were not diamonds or I could be living on a tropical island right now instead of shoveling snow off of our roof.

Alexander the great and I

Those who know me know that I like anything to do with the medieval ages and back. If you don’t know me then you should know I have memorized battle plans and strategies the Romans used on the Celts, I own a collection of Cold Steel ® Broadswords and am very fascinated with the systems the Greek, Roman, Babylonian, Persian, and Carthaginian empires were run. I have reason to believe that I inherited these traits from Alexander the great. I think sometime over the period of my life I have become part Alexander (or at least have a cell or two from him). Here are ways I think I could have been part Alexander. I think that because I have a few of his cells in me that is probably were I get my interests of his time from.

When Alexander the great died he was buried. If he had a tomb stone then I think it got knocked down and then he was lost forever to the world. Many years pass and he is turned into dirt. Then and olive plantation forms right over where he is buried.

Once I had eaten the pizza I was overcome with sheer awesomeness.

This may account for my resemblance to Alexander the great also.

1) My second theory is before Alexander the great died he got bitten by a vampire. Then I got bitten years later transferring some of his blood to me.

1) Last theory but not least. He breathed some air out of his lungs it traveled around the world and I breathed it in. Although my sister would argue that he actually farted and then I inhaled it. Either way I think I could possibly have some of his awesome cells in me consequently making me awesome also.

Camping in your back yard can be one of the best things ever; in the day time. Up to about the time I was 13 I was scared to camp in the back yard for fear of being eaten. I have composed a list of possible actions and explanations of back yard camping.
During the day time one is able to block out all and any creepy sounds. Creepy sounds are the cause for campers panic. After campers panic comes the inevitable insanity, fear factor, and or death. There are a variety of reasons people fear the dark rather than the day time. This is my personal explanation for not hearing creepy sounds during the day.

Creepy sounds generally is the start of campers panic. Once one hears a sound a conversation starts up much like this.
Me: Did you hear that?

Other guy: No I didn't what did you hear?

Me: Oh just the casual sound of some mutant beast ripping apart a grizzly bear.

Other guy: You know what I think I hear it also. In fact I think its coming towards us!

Me: Did you pack the weapons.

Other guy: No I thought you did.

Me: Ohmygoodnesswearegoingtodie!

This is what happens when I am with other people. When it is just me in the tent I start to talk to myself.

Generally after all of this has gone down there are two ways to handle the situation.
a) Make a dash to the house
b) Stay awake in the tent until morning.
Option a) is the option most people choose. The downside to this option is the un-mathimatical distance change that occurs during the dark.

Not only does the distance lengthen but you also run around screaming randomly while your shadow chases you.
Option b) is a other option that will result in fear. Generally when a weapon is in the tent the person feels inclined to stay. They see that they might have a chance against a heard of zombies with a pocket knife. The downside to this plan is it may result in no sleep.

Here are the actual facts of the scary factor during the night.

As you can see from these facts I made up that scary sounds, and the scary factor go up during the night. My best advice for backyard camping is to bring a pocket knife with you so that your scary factor goes down. The embarrassment of running into the house every time you go backyard camping might be to unbearable. I highly suggest option b).

16th Birthday

My birthday lands today! February 2nd, I am born on a not-so-very popular holiday; Ground Hogs Day. It is a shock to me and my parents that I have lived long enough to reach this age. Here are some ways in the past that could possibly hinder me from turning 16.
When I was little I had an extremely big head. In fact I believe my head lead me around instead of my legs.

Falling down stairs seemed to be a life endangering situation.

and various other ways.

I think birds and squirrels teamed up to kill me while I was climbing in trees.

And finally being chased around in the dark by a timber wolf.

It is still a wonder to me how I escaped all of this.

Alien survival guide

Devin’s Guide to surviving alien attacks offers you a visual aid on what to do when; getting abducted, fighting, greeting, and getting zapped by aliens.

1) 1) First sighting of an alien.

When you see an alien you will probably start to panic. This is normal, and ok. If you don’t panic then the alien will probably see you as a threat and zap you. In times of panicking you should consider running around. This will enhance the panic factor and make you a harder target to shoot.

1) 2) Next you will want to know how to greet the aliens. Some people say the best way to greet an alien is to give them a nice firm handshake or slapping them across the face (50-50 chance of living on the latter one). I have composed Do’s and Don’ts on alien greetings.

3) When do aliens come? Aliens come whenever they want to. The usually show up approximately when you are least expecting them.

It happens just like this. Then they take you and use you for experiments. They also seem to like to abduct cows and monkeys and switch the brains out with humans. Then they beam them back down. I know a few people myself, who have gotten their brains switched out with a monkeys.

1) 4) When aliens announce that they are taking over the world here are your best plans of action.

a) Run and hide.

b) Become an alien pet.

c) Shoot guns at them before they can vaporize you.

d) Give your little brother as a sacrifice. If you have none of these around then a sister or friend will work.

e) Convince the aliens that you are smart enough to be left alive.

f) Volunteer for the cow/monkey brain transplants.

When aliens have taken over the earth it is ok to remain calm. The aliens will know you are under their control, and so you will not need to panic any more. If you still feel like panicking then that is ok too.

This concludes my short guide on how to survive an alien attack.

The kid with the jelly hands

The library is a place of many strange and awesome things. It is a place where I can go and check out fifteen seasons of cop shows and watch them without a commercial break. It is also a place where you can meet your doom. In the caverns and long halls of the library, there are frequent book slides and magazine avalanches. One might not even be heard under the ruble of the books.

Cons of the library are the sound rules.

The library has many pros and many cons, but by far the worst would be, the “jelly hand kid”. The entire mission of the “jelly hand kid” is to seek out the movie I most want to see. He then takes the movies I have been waiting my entire life to see and watches them. But he waits the full two weeks before returning them. In fact some of them are overdue. Right before he returns the DVD he does this.

So by the time the movie I have been waiting to see my entire life arrives it’s all covered in jelly.

I clean off the movie and put it in. I am lucky enough to scrape off the crusted on jelly with a hammer and a crowbar with minimal damage. Once in the movie plays great. Or that is, it plays great until the climax. See the “jelly hand kid” is good at the art of making a scratch right at the climax of the movie.

“Here is what I did at the battle that changed me”; it says.

Then the movie gives me just a hint of what happened, just enough so I can mourn not seeing the climax.

This is generally what happens every movie I have waited my entire life to see (the movie this time was The Patriot). Despite missing the climax I look like this after the movie.

Know Your Blob

Many people have been wondering what the blobs mean on my blog. Ok, maybe only one person was wondering it. This is a brief field guide I have made to identify characters in my blog.

That shade of orange is always me. I don’t even like that color.

The reason I use this blob is because it is symbolic of my drawing abilities. Now you should have a basic understanding of how to identify my characters.

When I was little, a long time ago (approximately when I was 3-9 years old) I was compelled to be a living demon. I had lots of plots and schemes on how to take over the world (I still do) and how to be a person of mass destruction.
One of my evil plots involved a trailer, drain cleaner, and black powder (If I could get my hands on any black powder). My plan was simple.

My plan was simple. I would use my parent’s trailer that we had parked near our house as HQ. I would then use the powder packets of drain cleaner, that I had found underneath the sink in the run down trailer. I would then empty every cap (caps for the little dollar store cap guns) and take the powder out of it to create a small bomb that I would use to um, honestly I didn’t know what I would do, it just sounded cool.

For some reason I got the idea mud was explosive when combined with drain cleaner and caps. I also had the brilliant idea to put rocks in it (because some rocks were explosive apparently also). Once my mom found out we were severely punished. I spent some “hard time” in my room. I had millions of ideas and most of them ended up leading me to my room. I was a poor ignoramus to the reality that, you don’t just go tell your mom; I made a “bomb” out of the drain cleaner and mud in the old trailer.

coffee the extremely short story

Coffee the extremely short story

Once upon a time people found something they called coffee. After traveling to South America the Spanish sought to find the perfect coffee bean (at this time there were coffee beans in Africa and Asia). They went through the Amazon jungle trying to find this bean. They came across many different plants and animals.

Despite what the natives told them (they couldn’t understand the natives anyways) they tried all sorts of plants. Some of the edible; but mainly non-edible (as in it kills you right there and then).

Turns out a lot of the times the natives communicated to them was to warn them of possible dangers.

But yet the search for the coffee bean was underway. They would not return to sweet Spain until they had found coffee beans. It turns out that to cover up the search for the coffee bean they say that the Spanish were in search of gold. When the great emperor Francisco Pizarro was captured the Spanish really asked for a room full of coffee bean plants, not a room full of gold! The reasons for these lies are to brainwash kids and teens. Have you ever heard an adult (or you as an adult) say “Coffee will stunt your growth”?

Adults know the value of this energy that has kept man running since the beginning of time. With the population growth adults are trying to turn to other sources of caffeine, like soda. But nothing can compare to coffee. I LOVE COFFEE!!! This concludes my short story on the search for coffee.

38 dollar egg.

Some people can get their chickens to lay year round. In the winter our chickens seem to become lazy and not lay eggs.

The other guy always has eggs and is selling them to the people (like me) who don’t get any eggs in the winter. We have researched how to get our chickens to lay eggs and come up with all sorts of crazy ideas.

Feed them hot stuff is one solution. This does not seem to work and our chickens look like this afterwards.

The nest is empty.

We also try different things in order to get the chickens active.

The nest is still empty.

This however does not work very well. So I try my own remedy.

The nest seems even more so empty.

However the chickens cannot speak English so this does not work.
Our chickens during the winter not only stop laying eggs but they start eating more.

This costs us a fortune.
Then one day while I was hauling another cart of food to the chickens I looked in the nest and saw it.

I snatched up the egg and ran inside to show my parents.

Once I had finally passed out from yelling my parents brought me to my room and chained me to the bed so that I would not go out and strangle the chickens one by one. While I was in my room I absently counted how much I had spent for that one broken egg. Approximately 38 dollars. If you find a way to get your chickens to lay eggs you should alert me imminently as I am about to eat them.

Sir. Devin and Marcus

There are two kinds of people in this world; People who own rams, and people who don’t.

I happen to be one of the people who owned a ram. I personally didn’t own it but our family did. His name was Marcus, the mightiest of all male sheep. Behind bars (the fence) he was a loveable sheep; but when he got out he was a living battering ram.
He was a tough ram.
One day my sister and I were playing outside and Marcus broke his chain. Seeking revenge he immediately charged the first person in sight. This happened to be my little sister. Thankfully she was a smart one and climbed up onto a tire (the kind you see in playgrounds, the ones you can play on).

This is what it looked like. Then there was me, blissfully unaware of the danger that was happening.

Turns out she was lying about the bow; that was just to get my attention. I wandered over to the scene causally. And checked the damage.

Besides my sister screaming everything seemed to be O.K. But I knew I had to do something; be the hero, save the day sort of thing. So I told my sister to stay where she was, and I was to go dawn on some armor and fight the beast.

*Note* Do not attempt this at all! Especially with a dollar store set of plastic armor! They need to start putting a warning on their gear “Does not work in real life”.
I went out to fight the ram. I felt invincible, like Sir George and the Dragon. I was Sir George and Marcus was the dragon. And there he was. Our eyes met. We gave each other cold stares, hoping the other would back down.

And then he laughed at me, and charged. I stood ready to face him.

This went on two more times, of me getting up and then getting run over. While I was distracting the Ram my sister ran.
I am still unsure to this day how I got out of that alive. But I do know I am alive now so I must have made it. I remember a lot of the time crying on the ground while Marcus stood over me, daring me to get up again. I also remember this was my sisters reaction (she had run to my mom and gotten her so she was there also).

New years party

New years is a party that I look forward to all year. The party, in a nutshell, goes like this. Party starts at 7:00 P.M. and ends at 12:00 A.M. Guests come at 3:00 P.M. We end up starting early because everyone is already at our house before the party starts. We dance, and dance, and dance. All the kids get hyped up on sugar and the adults drink wine and beer. And we dance, and dance, and dance. But before all of this happens I look like somewhat like this all day waiting for the party to start.

Once the party finally starts (which takes forever because time is trying to commit suicide so the party won’t start) everyone gears up in a costume (we have a theme every year) and then we dance until our legs fall off. This year the theme was star trek (in case anyone was wondering, YES, I AM A TREKKIE! And no, I do not know how to speak klingon). Also the person below is one of the fellows who came to the party.

One of the highlights of the party is, one of the family’s; that attends our New Years Eve party every year, brings fudge.

(above)Me happy again because there is fudge.
I know people who would have killed for that fudge, that’s how good it is. As soon as the Plate ‘O Fudge hits the counter it’s gone.

Sometimes, when I am able to claw my way through the crowd to the fudge, I can see the last peace disappear.

And then it’s gone! Thankfully there were three plates this year and I was able to snag a piece from the crowd. I snatched it right out of his mouth, and ate it!
Soda and bean dip are also what fuels our party. (Below me after dancing for 4 hours straight inhaling soda.)

And we dance.

Finally when everyone is done partying (approximately 1:00 A.M.) we go to bed instantly. As soon as our heads hit the pillow we are out.

The next morning everyone pretty much looks like zombies.

This pretty much concludes my new year, every year.

Welfare animals

*Warning* People who are animal lovers, have welfare, or are members of PETA should not read this blog posting!!! I warned you, so don’t sue me because you don’t like it!

Living in the country, animals are expected to make an honest living. By saying this I mean, we don’t pamper our animals. The sheep, goats, and cows are expected to get out into the field exercise and eat grass. The chickens are expected to lay eggs and eat bugs. The dogs are expected to protect the chickens, sheep, goats, cows, and cats. And the cats are supposed to hunt mice and moles. You would think this would be fair for the pay of a medium plate worth of food every day right? (If not then you don’t live on a farm.) Turns out all of our animals are trying to get welfare. The chickens are not laying and they are demanding more food. The dog chases the chickens and, the cats sit at our window every day and beg for food. They are welfare kitties. Every day I wake up and open the window blinds and there they are.

And there he is; the welfare kitty. He always wants me to feed him, but he never hunts. All he does every day is sit in front of that window and beg for food. He gave me his googley eyes.

NO! I yelled while slamming the curtains back shut (I don’t know how but I managed to slam the curtains). That cat had to go catch its food for today and not beg. Later that day I re opened the window and the cat was still there. Oh well I thought I guess I will read for a little bit.

When the cow and the sheep showed up I knew I had had enough of these welfare animals. I must do something! I MUST! So I did the only thing I really knew how to do.

Needless to say I had a good dinner that night and a whole lot less welfare animals.

Jean shopping is not fun (most people already know this). One day when my mom told me we were going to go jean shopping this was my reply.

I had heard of the horrors of jean shopping, I knew that I would go crazy. The worst thing was that it was Women’s jean shopping. THE WORST! So we sullenly marched into the car. My siblings didn’t seem to know the true terror of it all.

When we got to the store my mouth dropped at the amount of clothes there where; specifically the jeans that we had to go through. It suddenly occurred to me that, I might in fact die in this store.

My mom told us the specific sizes, waist, color, and look of the kinds of jeans she wanted. Then we split up. I knew my odds of making it out of this store where slim.

As my mom was going into the locker to try about 75 new sets of jeans, my mind fizzled.

I realized right then and there I would not get out of this store until I found the perfect pair of jeans. I went on the hunt.

Dressed in uniform I went to interrogate, impersonate, and investigate where the perfect pair of jeans where.

He was helpful. He pointed me to the exact pair I wanted.

I knew I had them. THE PERFICT PAIR OF JEANS!

And this is why I don’t go jean shopping unless the jeans we are searching for are for me, where I don’t have to find the perfect pair. I will just pick up the first pair I see and if it fits then I’m done.

The Little things.

There are things in life that annoy me (and I’m pretty sure the rest of the population). It’s not the kind of annoy where you break an arm; or when you stub a toe. It’s the kind of annoy when your brother decides to turn on the hot water while you are in the shower, so as to divert from the pipes all that is warm and good in this world, to give you an arctic bath. *Below is me after an arctic bath*

Being male, keywords involving lipstick, nail polish, ponies, hair, glitter, pink, purple, butterflies, rainbows, eyelashes, or fake nails make me start to go insane (and shopping for clothes).

Flies drive me crazy. They buzz everywhere, constantly landing on my food and my forehead. Do you know flies regurgitate their food onto an object then eat it up again? This is why you get brown spots on your windows (little ones) and why a fly is obsessed with returning to your sandwich. They regurgitated on your food and they want to come back and eat it up again. I lived my life happily without knowing this, but now I know and I will spread my knowledge mwahhhaaaaaaaa.

Another thing that bothers me is wet towels. When you get out of a pool or shower and the only towel you have is soggy and cold, you need to dry off but you can’t find a dry towel. This is the situation I am talking about.

Finally we come to coffee. We can’t deny my dad any coffee or else we get a scene like this. It is really bad when a pot is not ready for him by the time he comes down the stairs. I like coffee too, but when dad is out of coffee I am forced to surrender my cup.

These are some of the things that drive me crazy.
