What I learned from watching the X-Files

2013-02-02T11:48:00.001-08:00

I have been on a mission to fill my brain with tons of useless information, so I've been watching whole TV series on Netflix while I'm at home working or in my down time. I recently finished watching every episode of X-Files.

There are several things I learned from watching the X-Files:

1. There were A LOT of episodes I never saw before. Remember before DVR's when you actually had to be home to see a show? It was like watching lost episodes...I loved it.

2. Scully got kidnapped...a lot. If I had to see this woman bound and gagged one more time, I'd really start to think the writers were into some kinky stuff.

3. The military is run by alien replicants, or Super Soldiers. I think just this topic takes a whole other blog post about how this happens and why.

4. The Lone Gunmen are heroes. I never saw the episode when they died before and I cried like a baby.

5. Scully and Mulder finally did the horizontal mambo, had a love child, but had to give him up for adoption to keep him safe from the aliens that want to kill him since he's part alien and has powers. He's powers were taken away when Mulder's half brother injected the baby with a mineral to stop his powers. This is another topic that could take a whole post.

6. Mulder is sort of part alien too...and he sees dead people.

Twisted Dreamy/Dark Doll Fantasy

2012-09-20T20:22:00.000-07:00

So I've been wanting to do a series of fantasy like photos that would also make the models look like dolls. I'm going to be doing a series of these types of photos. Here is the first set in the series. With this set I wanted to show a light more angelic doll contrasted to a more creepy dark version of the fantasy. Enjoy!

This one is more fantasy then doll, just wanted to do one like this for fun. Sometimes I go off in a different direction.

So I was working with a new makeup artist and needed a model at the last minute, so I called up my good friend, and favorite makeup artist, Lexi to have her model for me. Even though she would rather do makeup all day, I thought it would be fun to have her model since she's so pretty! Here are two photos I love from the shoot. Once I get more edits done I will post those.

I was working on a project based on the color palate from a famous piece of art. I had also happened to be working on a pastel image which was a reproduction of Van Goghs' Cafe painting. So I called one of my favorite models and associate Amanda and told her what I had in mind. We decided to shoot at the dry lake beds in Lucerne Valley. She put together some amazing outfits based on my color needs. She even did fantastic job doing her own makeup. Here are some of our favorite photos from this shoot.

Perfect Day for Making Christmas Cookies!

2010-12-19T16:49:00.000-08:00

It's been raining pretty steady for the last few days but today takes the cake. The rain brought it's close friend fog along for the ride and the streams of water pouring down my window makes me want to take a nap with my dog. But I know I don't have time for a nap today since it's cookie making day!

Every year I make cookies for my friends and family for Christmas. Some of whom are already getting restless and asking for an ETA on their cookies. It makes me feel good that so many people enjoy my cookies. Early on in my cookie making days, there were some unsuccessful cookie creations that have since been scraped from my cook book. My sons call them my "experiments".

To make my life a little easier this year, I have narrowed my list of cookies to 4 maybe 5 if I'm feeling frisky. I'm making Hungarian Kifli's, Snow Balls, Peanut Butter Kisses, and Chocolate Dipped Sugar Crescents. I might make Hungarian Butter-horns on Christmas Eve just for my family. They are more like a breakfast pastry than a cookie anyway.

I'll update this blog post later with photos of the cookies as I complete them.

Update: My large oven died today so I've been making small batches of cookies in my convection toaster oven. Here is a photo of the snow balls.

Here is a quick cam phone photo of the peanut butter kisses that I'm making. Only have 24 cookies done so far. Gonna be a long night.

I finally got a majority of the kifli cookies done. Still have to motivate myself to continue. Making small batches in my toaster oven is taking its toll on me.
