Road trip Kota Kinabalu

Last weekend I went on a road trip to Kota Kinabalu, driving there can be fun and a bitch at the same time. No thanks to the jam at the Temburong ferry and the bloody cue cutters but we managed to reach our destination in time, we had some great bakuteh and dim sum and food can quite expensive in KK.

After visiting the memorial park it is always nice to visit the local night market to see what they have to offer, wu fen pu is a popular night market in Taipei. If you are operating a local boutique outlet in Malaysia, this is a good place to get your stock as the place is famous for wholesale. It is a shopping haven (especially for ladies), as for me I enjoying the street food more than the shopping since they do not have much of the things I want.

It shames me to see that taxis here are using cars like a Toyota Camry which most people consider it a luxury back home.

You get lots of these sausages around, sprinkled with lots of MSG.

They even have something similar to our roti canai, LOL!

Dogs here gets the pampering that you wish you would have, I asked a local Taiwanese the reason behind it some people do not wish have a child and instead they get a dog and giving it the best treatment.

Sun Yat Sen Memorial hall

Here's to the continuation of my super late update on my Taiwan trip, after dumping all our staff at the hostel it was time to go around see Taipei. We actually went to the Sun Yat Sen memorial hall by mistake, why not have a look around and see the history of Taiwan.

Sun Yat Sen memorial park is a pretty popular tourist destination, we saw groups of Japanese and people from mainland China. After snapping a few photos, it was time to move on to our next destination.

Delizioso cafe perth

My friend in Perth brought to Delizioso cafe for breakfast, apparently this place is very famous for their pizzas. They serve the pizzas in small slices with lots selection to choose from, I had the pepperoni and I forgot what was the other one. Very nice pizza and service, recommended to try out when you visit Perth.

In Perth City, you get to see a lot of street performers. Just like this one, playing the didgeridoo.

Taipei trip

Early this year I went to Taipei, Taiwan. The flight takes about 3 and half hours which includes the flight from Miri to KK and to Taipei, transiting in the airport during the wee hours can be real agony without any proper place to snooze or anything to kill time.

First thing we need to do is to find a Taipei hostel, which was not that hard since the website has given very clear instruction and even a map.

After loading off the luggage, it is time to look for some local Taiwanese food before exploring the city.

We accidentally went to a vegetarian stall which was not what we wanted, so headed across the street to have some wantan noodles. Pretty good stuff with very spicy chili suited for the winter.

Fremantle or known as Freo

Fremantle or Freo as known to the local Aussies, I visited this place during my Aussie trip. The first thing you do when you get there is to look for fish & chips, heard many fantastic commends on the seafood here so gotta try it myself.

Was supposed to be eating at Cicerello's but we ended up at Kailis, the fish & chips are great! fish is fresh and no frozen food taste.

After that I take a tour around the place to enjoy the splendid view of the sea from the round house.

Proton in overseas

Some might think is "so what?" or pointless, but I don't really bother about those in regards of Malaysia made cars. It is not such a terrible car, it's a pretty decent car to bring you around with the basic necessity. What are the chances of spotting a local made in car in overseas? well I managed to spot a few during my overseas trip

The first was spotted when I was in Perth Australia, was a Proton Satria

And I never ever thought that I would see Proton cars when I was in Taiwan, which are all LHD(Left Hand Drive). Not only 1, but I saw 4 around different cities in Taiwan.

Malaysia memang boleh!

Dynasty Chinese Restaurant revisited

Last week my aunt from Kuching came by Miri, so we dedcided to go Dynasty Chinese Restaurant. Although I have been there a couple of times but I do not mind going that frequent since the food and service is there is superb, with a reasonable price tag as well. Here are the dishes we ordered.

The Fried Vermicille with seafood texture was just right and not to salty.

The vege with cheese was very unique my first time having it and I like it.

It was a bit salty but the chicken was very tendered and aroma of the herbs blended in well.

What can I say? I'm a big fan of tofu, plus they made their tofu.

The ribs was freaking huge ZOMG! It is so worth money ordering this.

Ocean king seafood

Just now I had dinner with my colleagues at ocean king seafood just next to Barcelona bar and near to Ming's Cafe, the restaurant serves live seafood and I was pretty surprised to see a moray eel in tank. I don't think I would wanna eat that, like there's nothing else to eat? so what is next eating clown fish? Anyway check out the photos below for the food we ordered.

I personally love the crabs, salted egg & Mongolian style was tasty. Good thing the Tilapia does not stink, otherwise I would not even think of eating it. The only thing is the crabs and the live fish can be quite pricey other than that it's pretty good.

Celebrities

Last year I celebrated my New Year's Eve at Celebrities, it's a new place that is opened at Imperial Palace hotel. A place with very nice ambiance and lots of booze too, since we haven't eat we decided to try out the food there.

Some bars in Miri serve very crappy food, but Celebrities did their home work. The chicken chop & chicken wings were fabulous, except for the Spaghetti Olio Algio which was quite bland and served with cauliflowers. Overall it is a great place to have some food, booze and chilling out.

Brand new natural tire polish

Happy New year to you all, Chinese was great. Family reunion at Limbang once a year, eating grandma's delicious cooking. All that was great, people would usually wash their car for the celebration right? When I reach grandpa's house, I parked my car next to my uncle's car. My car was stuck in the dirt when I was asked to do some errands, dad and my cousin had to push the car.

And you get a brand new mother nature's tire polish, the one and only brown color polish. I was driving the car like that around Limbang town(people must be thinking that I took the car for a spin on off road), so much for the hard work washing the car T_T.

The break down

So it's already 2011, in a week time I'll be having my vacation. Now I bet most of you had your gadgets or other things that breaks down, knowing that it is not a real issue. People always share their wonderful or horrid memories from 2010, so here are my horrid memories.

My 250GB external hard disk broke down for no reason, I have 160GB worth of photos and videos and to make things worst the repair is going to be a huge sum and I cannot afford it. Which is why there is halt in my Aussie trip postings.

My dearest DSLR, which had been a loyal companion of mine. Sometimes you got to love it and hate it, it broke twice and make it trice for this time. The auto focus on the lens failed, it would cost around RM300++ to get it repair and I can get a new one around 400++.(The damn wonders of technology) Such a good way to start my year, I guest it is time to get a new cam and try to save up to repair the hard disk.

Breakfast at Mcdonald's

I know it's not such a big deal to have breakfast at Mcdonald's, but you have say that it is something for the people in Miri ever since Mcd open it's first 24hrs branch here. A lot of people have been flocking their way up, even those staying 30km away from it, makes you wonder why right? I don't know as well since we already have one Mcd at Bintang Mall.

The new Mcd is located at Permy Jaya which is 15km from my where I live, since I was on my way up to meet my friend so why not have breakfast over there.

Ignore the face, this how I will look like when I'm really hungry.

I ordered the big breakfast with the two hot cakes & a sausage, while my friend had the Mcmuffin and all I can say is "yummy". It's good to have something for breakfast for a change instead of the daily kolok mee, have you get your breakfast at Mcd?

Peking Duck

A couple of weeks I went for the Peking duck at Imperial Hotel, it is said that their peking duck is very nice. So I can't wait to sink my teeth into the succulent meat and the crispy skin.

We went for the three flavors, the pan cake, soup and fried with dried chili. Me and my friend could not really finish the whole, the duck was quite big. Making it perfect for 4 persons, unless your appetite is the Hulk's then you'll have no problem settling yourself.

The price is quite reasonable as well, I only forked out less than RM70.00 and if you do go for it, get it fried with dried chili it's really nice if you love spicy food.

Misato Japanese Restaurant

Who would bother over 100km to Brunei just over sushi? Mirians of course! We are known for doing that ever since excapade opened and people tasted good sushi, I was recommended by my colleague there is another newly open Japanese restaurant call Misato in Bandar and they recently opened up their Kuala Belait branch.

We decided to go up and check it out, If you ask me the location I have no idea how to get there as I was guided there. But you can check out Makan maniac's link for the map here.

The menu consist of sushi, rice sets and a couple of fusion food as well. We ordered most of the sushi and other items like teriyaki chicken. My favorite food there is the deep fried soft shell crabs, it taste fabulous. Unfortunately, the ran out Sashimi which has ruined the whole purpose of eating sushi there. Nevertheless, we had a great time there.

I dropped by Chica.go7 fast food restaurant for lunch at Merdeka Mall Miri, I heard about the restaurant in Kuching and with good reviews from my mom and my friends. The menu offer is similar to sugarbun's menu too, their signature dish is of course none other than their broaster chicken which their competitor does as well.

I had the set meal that comes with rice, while my friend opted the one with the mash. The chicken is crispy and juicy on the inside, plus it is very tender. Conclusion, it is a great place to have some good old broaster chicken.

Kings park war memorial

I went over and visited the war memorial part of the park, most the memorials are from the WW1, WW2, Korean war, Boer war, Vietnam and other specific memorials to various Battles, Units, POWs and other groups. I am thinking that some of those are actually from the pacific war during WW2. I found a memorial dedicated to Borneo, that is when Malaya is not united yet.

Perth Trip 6, Kings Park

Walking around the city and admiring those Victorian was a splendid experience for, it is time to head to kings park one of Perth's attraction. Kings park sort of reminded me of Canada hill in Miri, because you get a nice panoroma view from there. The park is located on the western edge of Perth, Western Australia central district. The park is a mixture of grassed parkland, botanical gardens, state War Memorial, the Royal Kings Park Tennis club and a reservoir.

The park was really huge to go around by foot, it would be great if I had a bike to go around. Time is also a concern, since I did not have much time so I did not get to visit the whole place. I started off with by going to edge to get a view of the city skyline like any other tourist would do, after that I visited the botanical gardens.

Perth Trip 5

The final part of sight seeing at the city, we headed to Hay Street. Hay Street is where all the luxury goods like Gucci, Burberry, Louis Vuitton are at and Australia's own Kailis(not the fish & chips) and there is a Belgium beer garden around the corner which I will blog about it in my next post.

There is one thing that I notice about street names in Western Australia, there are a couple of streets in the city shares the same name. It seems to be confusing for a foreigner like me, but good thing I had a friend who has been residing there to bring me around.

Looks like a good place to get wasted eh?

I took a photo of her and found out that she is actually a representative from Green peace.

The Ice cream serving is very generous! it overflows out of the cup and makes you gobble up fast and you might even get a brain freeze.

Here is the good thing about the city, every corner is connected to the other street so it is pretty easy to go around the city. The only downside, unlike retail outlets in Malaysia theirs closes at 05:00pm which makes shopping a rush and a hassle.

Perth Trip 4

So after exploring the city, it time to do what the locals normally. Have a beer and some food, I forgot what is the place call but I only recall that it is located inside one of the malls. We had coopers pale ale, one Australia's boutique beer. It taste great, it is no wonder people can drink this anytime of the day. We ordered Chicken schnitzel, Caesar salad and fish & chips, the chicken was not that good since it was slightly burn and bland. To finish it off, we had a middy pipsqueak cider.

After all that it is time to head to off to see more of the city.

Perth trip 3

So here I am in the city of Perth, admiring the beauty of the colonial buildings that surrounds the place. It is good to see that historical landmarks are preserved properly, so I was walking around like a typical tourist with his big DSLR camera hanging on the neck and snapping away happily.

We dropped by London court, which is one of the attractions in Perth City. Most the shops are selling tourist souvenirs and other British things. Fancy for a cup of English tea? After visiting London Court I am on the way to have one of Australia's home brewed coopers Ale, which is a norm over here drinking alcoholic beverages during the day, unlike home where people would give you the weird stare when pop one those open during the day.

Going down Under 2

As I proceed on to the departure lounge, I could not help but to be excited. It is my very first trip to overseas and all the way down, I thought I could kill some 5 during the flight. To my horror, there was not much of in flight on the flight. How on earth am I going to get through the agonizing 5 hours trip. They did have a movie going on, but it was boring. Tried sleeping on the whole roll of seats, since nobody was on the same roll as I was. Believe me, I could not even sleep with the turbulence going on every 15 minutes. Dinner served on the flight was great, what makes it better was the wine and the beer.

I have made it, getting through the tough immigration officers of Australia was like applying a loan for a Lambo. The first place to visit is the city itself.
