I met German Photographer Marcel in my third year of university when he came over to study at our University in Plymouth for a short period of time. Marcel's' recent work 'My Favorite Childhood Nightmares' consists of a number of gif images which create a haunting but calm feeling - reminding me heavily of the famous Gregory Crewdson's work.

The Naked and Famous were introduced to me by my good friend Sofi. We were playing yotube tennis (yes!) before a night out and sofi chose The Naked and Famous - Young Blood. I'd heard it before (maybe on the radio) and it's such a feel good tune.

The rest of The Naked and Famous album - 'Passive me Aggressive you' is similar in the sense that it'll make you want to get up and dance about the place like a nutter! The highlights of the album for me are:

New Brand: S H E L T E R

S H E L T E R started in the spring of 2010 in the Mad River Valley of Vermont when founders Karie Reinertson and Robert Maddox needed a bag to collect to all of the wild edibles and mushrooms they'd been collecting.

Karie Reinertson earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, DC and has exhibited her paintings and illustrations in numerous shows in Washington DC, San Francisco, and Portland, OR. Prior to SHELTER, she worked for an environmental design non-profit, and travelled extensively internationally, volunteering for environmental education centers. She is currently designing and making handbags that focus on quality, sustainable, and local materials.

Robert Maddox is trained architect, earning his Masters in Architecture from Tulane School of Architecture in New Orleans. He worked for sustainable design firm Thread Collective in Brooklyn, NY for four years before moving to Vermont to be a design/build intern at Yestermorrow Design/Build School. He is currently working as a designer/builder for Virant Design, an architecture firm here in Asheville.

Together Rob and Karie design and make Shelter Bags by hand. We just love these leather, Aztec/Navajo inspired bags and backpacks - now available on our website here

Frankie Magazine

Up until about 3 days ago I thought you could only buy Frankie in Australia. Then, while at work I popped across to the newsagents, a small and quite badly stocked newsagents at that with a little man sat at the counter wearing a knitted beanie hat (since they always have the door open and its ENGLAND in NOVEMBER!) and then i turned to my left and spotted it, sat there on the magazine stand - Frankie.
Oh it was a good sight!
Six pounds fifty for 144 pages (plus some handmade jam stickers and a poster) of delightful inspiration, news, illustration and things I want but can't quite afford!

For those of you who have never read Frankie (gasp) its an Australian magazine aimed at 'women (and men) looking for a magazine that’s as smart, funny, sarcastic, friendly, cute, rude, arty, curious and caring'! The Bi-monthly magazine covers design, art, photography, fashion, travel, music, craft, interiors and real-life stories with the one aim - to inspire.

New New New - OOTD Video Section

We have recently opened a video part of The Little Deer website, asking fans and friends of the little deer to contribute to the website with videos inspired by their favrouite outfits available here online in our shop. So far we have videos by Rhiannon, an 18 year old fashion student living in the UK. Rhiannons Youtube channel includes lots of gorgeous 'Outfit of the Day', 'How I style' and some 'DIY How to' videos - all excellently edited. Rhiannon managed to take some time out of her very very busy schedule (seriously i don't know how she does it - she must drink alot of coffee!) to film these videos for us here at little deer.

I came across Mint Julep while looking at the Urban Outfitters blog and instantly fell in love. It's the unusual Aviary video (see below) which first pulled me in and then I found myself listening to the video more than a few times a day! Now i've named this post 'new music' - Mint Julep were formed in 2007 but they are new to me. I love discovering new music for myself! The Little Deer Stall

On Sunday 25th September we popped over to Brighton for the fortnightly vintage market at The Yard on North Road. It was a lovely sunny day with lots to do at the market. I have to admit my Favorite stall was the 'Lets Bake Love' cake stall, from which I bought the most yummy marble cake I have ever tasted! Check out their blog here.

Ric Bixter seems to have successfully made effective and exciting packaging for a dull everyday object here with these elastic band boxes. Each box is more affected by the band round it according to the strength of the elastic - see..clever eh!

So recently i've turned into a bit of a Youtube whore. Yes that's right. It all began the other day when I was searching for Ombre hair DIY guides (Ombre hair is kind of like dip dying. Very popular with Alexa Chung) I came across these two lovely ladies and their Youtube channels:

Rhiannon Ashlee

Rhiannon is an 18 year old girl living in the UK. She is off to study Fashion Design in London this year. Rhiannons Youtube channel includes lots of gorgeous Outfit of the Day posts, How I style posts and some DIY How to's - all excellently edited. I like Rhiannons videos because she is so cute! Her sence of humor is spot on and her style is gorgeous.
