The Mega Millions jackpot is now over $1 billion

DES MOINES, Iowa — A giant Mega Millions lottery jackpot ballooned to $1.02 billion after no one matched all six numbers Tuesday night and won the top prize.

The new estimated jackpot will be the nation's fourth-largest lottery prize.

The jackpot has grown so large because no one has matched the game's six selected numbers since April 15. That's 29 consecutive drawings without a big winner.

Tuesday's numbers were: 07-29-60-63-66, Mega Ball: 15.

The $1.02 billion prize is for winners who choose the annuity option, paid annually over 30 years. Most winners opt for the cash option, which for the next drawing Friday night is an estimated $602.5 million.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The game is coordinated by state lotteries.

Fourth largest lottery jackpot prize in U.S. history; third largest in Mega Millions history

AUSTIN – Sales for the Tuesday, July 26 Mega Millions drawing continue to surge, resulting in the jackpot prize being increased to an estimated annuitized $830 million. The jackpot is the third largest jackpot prize in game history and the fourth largest in U.S. lottery history. Tuesday’s drawing offers a cash value worth an estimated $487.9 million. If there is no jackpot winner for tonight’s Mega Millions drawing, the jackpot prize for the Friday, July 29 drawing will roll to an estimated annuitized $1.025 billion.

“Mega Millions sales continue to be strong for the Texas Lottery during the current jackpot run, which will generate much needed revenue for public education in the state of Texas,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery. “As great excitement builds for Tuesday night’s drawing, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the winner of this jackpot is a Texas Lottery® player. Most importantly, we also want to remind our players to play responsibly. It only takes one ticket to win.”

Tuesday’s drawing will be the 29th in the current Mega Millions jackpot run since starting as an estimated annuitized $20 million for the April 19 drawing. This is the largest Mega Millions jackpot up for grabs since the Jan. 22, 2021 drawing when it reached an estimated $1.05 billion – the game’s second-largest jackpot prize, which was won by an out of state player.

Texas has had 13 Mega Millions jackpot prize winners since it joined the game in 2003. Its most recent jackpot winner came in September 2019 when a Leander resident won an estimated annuitized $227 million, the largest prize ever paid out to a single Texas Lottery player.

Since the start of 2022, five Texas Lottery players have won second-tier Mega Millions prizes of $1 million or larger, including two during the current jackpot run. A Houston resident claimed a $1,000,510 second-tier prize for the drawing held on May 13 and an Ingram resident claimed a $2 million second-tier prize for the drawing held on June 17.

Mega Millions is played by choosing five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from the second field of 25 numbers. To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn including the Mega Ball. Players matching fewer numbers may not win the jackpot but could still walk away winners. Mega Millions currently offers a $20 million starting jackpot and a second-tier (Match 5+0) prize of $1 million. By choosing the Megaplier® feature for $1 more per Play, players can multiply their non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four or five times, winning as much as $5 million.

Drawings are broadcast each Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 p.m. CT. Texas Lottery players can purchase Mega Millions tickets at more than 20,000 Texas Lottery retailers across the state. Ticket sales for the next Mega Millions drawing will close at 9:45 p.m. CT on Tuesday, July 26. The retailer that sells a jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket is eligible to receive up to a $1 million retailer bonus.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was an Indian aerospace scientist who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu and studied Physics and aerospace engineering.

Hazard did not take long to make an impact, converting a 55th-minute spot kick after America defender Salvador Reyes was adjudged to have fouled Lucas Vazquez in the box.

Hazard's penalty looked like settling a drab encounter but America got back on level terms eight minutes from time when Vinicius made the slightest of contact with Fidalgo just inside the area.

The latest offering in the Marvel Cinematic Universe made its way to Indian theatres on July 7, a day early from its release in the United States. Reviews are in for Thor: Love and Thunder and the Rotten Tomatoes score for the film is not looking great. The score for the movie is currently at 70% based on 183 reviews at the time of this publication, which is certainly not a bad score, but it lands the Taika Waititi-directed flick into the low end of MCU movies.

While reviews aren’t necessarily the final judgement of a movie, it is telling that Thor: Love and Thunder barely has a better score than 2008’s The Incredible Hulk which sits at 67%. Another film in the series, 2013’s Thor: The Dark World is at 66% and last year’s Eternals has 47% on the Tomatometer.

Thor: Love and Thunder can't hold a candle to Thor: Ragnarok's unorthodox brilliance, nevertheless, the Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman starrer still shines because of its trustworthy cast.

Thor: Ragnarok, for many including this reviewer, is slated high amongst the best MCU movies of all time! What the first two Thors could not accomplish, the Taika Waititi directorial did with finesse, which is to make the God of Thunder likeable and witty. Now, we have Chris Hemsworth returning for the fourth instalment, Thor: Love and Thunder, with old allies and new enemies. With overexceeding expectations, is second time the charm for Hemsworth-Waititi's eccentric combo? Let's find out!

In Thor: Love and Thunder, we see Thor facing a mid-life crisis, what with losing practically all of his loved ones including beloved brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston, who is very much alive in another timeline!). However, the God of Thunder's dad-bod soon transforms into a God-bod, when trouble comes knocking in the menacing avatar of Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). Gorr is on a killing spree, hell-bent on murdering all Gods as revenge for the ill-fated death of his young daughter. After Gorr cleverly kidnaps Asgardian children as bate, Thor enlists the help of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi) to save the day for the nth time. However, to Thor's shock, his ex-love Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is a surprising counterpart on his intergalactic adventure with sudden powers to yield Thor's beloved Mjölnir. You can call her Mighty Thor!

One can't help but compare Thor: Love and Thunder to Thor: Ragnarok, because Taika Waititi pulled out all the 'unconventional' stops in the former. This time, too, Taika (screenplay co-written with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson) tries to interlace his trademark wit with that of Marvel's humour motif but comes up short at the end. While there are quite a few laughs, it's not enough, and God forbid, even forced. However, what Thor: Love and Thunder gets right is the emotional quotient, especially when it comes to Jane's cancer diagnosis and how it affects her mentally, dwindling her body down with every strike of the hammer. As melancholically mentioned by Thor about the "8 years, 7 months and 6 days" since they last saw each other, Thor and Jane's love story takes time to simmer through before it really kicks off. Ultimately, you're more invested in these two characters' triumphs individually, than as a couple.

When it comes to the performances in Thor: Love and Thunder, Chris Hemsworth doesn't miss a step as Thor, bringing back the infectious magic of the OG 6 Avengers that I've thoroughly missed in MCU Phase 4. Even the childish of jokes (and there are many!) are given a zany edge, thanks to Chris' underrated comic timing. On the other hand, Natalie Portman gets her due in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Oscar winner's acting chops come in handy in the more serious sequences, while Natalie exudes sheer joy in being Mighty Thor (as she tries to awkwardly embrace her muscly superhero side) which is exciting to witness on the big screen. The back-and-forth between the two Thors, especially when it comes to the jealousy aspects with both their hammers - Mjölnir and Stormbreaker is effervescently delightful.

Speaking of Oscar winners, Christian Bale delivers yet another physically ambitious performance as Gorr the God Butcher, where he makes a fragmented backstory work like a charm. Bale is genuinely terrifying in parts, though the dilly-dally ending doesn't justify the means. Especially when he's the black clouds amid a rainbow-envy bag of happy characters. Tessa Thompson was the scene-stealer in Thor: Ragnarok, but in Thor: Love and Thunder, she's painfully shunned to the sidelines, so much so, that Korg has more screentime than her, which is unfortunate. Don't get more wrong; who doesn't love Korg, but we'd have loved him a lot more with a lot less.

Thor: Love and Thunder is jam-packed with A-list celebrity cameos (There's one epic one for Ted Lasso fans in the mid-credits!) and the one who takes the cake and eats it too is Russell Crowe's boisterous performance as Zeus, with an outlandish accent that's over the top, times Waititi! It's when Thor & Co. encounter Zeus where all the belly laughs reside.

The action sequences in Thor: Love and Thunder ups the ante with some kaleidoscope of colours, orchestrated by Nigel Phelps' aesthetic production design while Barry Baz Idoine's elite cinematography enables time to witness the marvel of even the overtly-CGI takeover. This is specifically seen in a black and white set piece in the second half that compliments Gorr's chilling dominance over Thor and his squad of misfit superheroes. As does it linger in the climax sequence, with kid-like, metallic vigour. Music played a very important aspect in Thor: Ragnarok (Who can forget Thor's epic battle entrance moment with Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song as the theme tune?!) and in Thor: Love and Thunder, the Guns N' Roses biggest hits playlist is a masterful addition as is Michael Giacchino and Nam Melumad's electrifying score.

In conclusion, Thor: Love and Thunder finds itself in the loophole of recent Phase 4 outings, like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Magic, where the MCU tries to branch out from its status quo that it's massively criticised for and 'experiment' in its narrative structure. The Chris Hemsworth starrer doesn't hold a candle to Thor: Ragnarok because of its overambitious, misguided direction, but for MCU fans (This writer has watched all 29 movies, mind you!), Thor: Love and Thunder could very well be a home run because of its trustworthy cast. Barring the screeching goats, who were funny for a like a minute!

There was no way Taika Waititi was going to meet sky-high expectations he set with 2017's 'Thor: Ragnarok'. And he does fall way, way short with 'Thor: Love and Thunder', the fourth film in the franchise that brings back Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder. But the film is not just disappointing, it is also a complete mess. There is, for intance little harmony between scenes -- so much so that they often appear as though they belong to their own movies. Did I enjoy it? Yes, mildly, though I am not eager for a second viewing. Could it have been better? Absolutely.

The movie begins with Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy

The last we saw of Thor, he was with the Guardians of the Galaxy and we find him saving lives across the universe. He is told of gods killed around the universe by a being calling himself Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) whose next target is New Asgard, the settlement in Norway where the surviving Asgardians settled in the wake of their realm's destruction.

There, apart from Gorr himself, Thor gets the surprise of a lifetime. His old flame, Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, is now a Thor herself (more precisely, Mighty Thor), wields the reassembled Mjolnir, and is dispatching Gorr's baddies with far more flair than Odinson ever did. There is an undercurrent of sadness in regard to her newfound power -- her cancer that is lifted directly from the Mighty Thor storyline.

Thor, Mighty Thor, King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson, sadly underused), and the rocky Kronan warrior Korg (Waititi) team up to take down Gorr before he accomplishes his goal to obliterate every god.

Gorr, a villain with a point?

Now, Gorr, like every other good villain, has his reasons. Played by Bale with a suitably sinister air, bleached skin, and eyes that burn with the hate for anything divine, Gorr lived on a planet that gods forgot. His pleas for his family and people went unheeded. We find him cradling his dying young daughter in the film's prologue. He somehow gets his hands on the Necrosword, the one weapon that can kill any god in the universe, he vows to rid the universe of every single deity.

Of course, Gorr encounters Thor in his crusade of god killing. To get help, Thor and company visit Zeus, played by Russell Crowe as the Zeus we know from Greek myths -- vain, prideful, and hedonistic. Crowe clearly had fun with the role, and I hope to see more of him. After a quick yet spectacular action scene, the heroes learn that they will have to take on Gorr alone.

Lots to love in the film, but...

There are flashes of brilliance, of course. Waititi has a real eye for visuals. Like 'Ragnarok', 'Love and Thunder' is full of unforgettably dazzling imagery, and action is never less than interesting. It is hard to completely hate a film that has a thrilling final fight set to Guns N' Roses' 'Sweet Child O' Mine'. The acting is great all around as well. Hemsworth could play Thor forever and I will not mind. Portman instills much-needed poignancy and a sense of stakes in an otherwise fluffy script. But 'Love and Thunder' also features Bale, and he pretty much steals the film.

Like many things in this film, the script, by Waititi and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, does not give the character enough meat for Bale to do much. But then, it's Bale. He practically disappears into the role and devises a worthy adversary for the two Thors -- in both strength and principle.

'Love and Thunder' illustrates larger issues with MCU and the superhero genre

But the film cannot create the magic that we saw playing out in the preceding film. The trouble, I feel, is that the film is missing that immaculate cocktail of intelligent writing and carefully crafted set pieces that made 'Ragnarok' one of the best MCU entries.

Despite Waititi being given more control this time (I assume that, anyway), this feels crafted in the traditionally Marvel mould -- designed as per the good old formula that Kevin Feige et al has perfected over the last one and a half-decade. In other words, the film watches like your typical MCU movie.

And I get why Feige and the team persist with the formula. The formula where even scenes are serious and emotional, they are tinged with humour as though the writers are nervous about fans not being able to stomach all that sentiment.

The Marvel formula works, sadly

Because they are right. The fans love the formula, for it makes for a comfortable, unchallenging time at the movies. In the theatre where I watched the film, there were hoots at even hints of humour, but during those quiet moments where characters were sharing their feelings? Everybody looked uncomfortable, and there were tense whispers, clearly wondering when the onslaught of 'feels' as the lingo goes, will end.

But between the second and third sets, Djokovic took a break, which included looking in the mirror and giving himself some encouragement.

“Where not much is happening positively for you on the court in terms of tennis, and the other guy on the court is dominating the play, sometimes you know these things are necessary,” Djokovic said in his on-court interview after the match. “You know — a little break and a little pep talk and try to recuperate — and I guess regather the thoughts and reassemble everything that you have and come at your opponent with the best possible game.”

In the third set, the 35-year-old won points on 85 percent of his first serves and hit 11 winners compared to three unforced errors.

“I was fortunate to start off the third set very well,” Djokovic said. “I broke his serve early in the set and I think that has given me a confidence boost and I saw a little bit of a doubt in his game, in his movement. भगवंत मान की शादी सिख रीति-रिवाज से होगी। सभी तैयारियां लगभग पूरी कर ली गई हैं। पंजाब सीएम की होने वाली दुल्हनियां भी सिख हैं। शादी के आयोजन का खर्च भी खुद सीएम भगवंत मान उठा रहे हैं। बताया जा रहा है कि भगवंत मान की मां हरपाल कौर की ख्वाहिश थी कि मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान अपना घर फिर से बसा लें।

भगवंत मान की पहली शादी इंद्रप्रीत कौर के साथ हुई थी। भगवंत मान के बेटे दिलशान मान (17) और बेटी सीरत कौर मान (21) अमेरिका में अपनी मां इंद्रप्रीत कौर के साथ रहते हैं। 20 मार्च 2015 को भगवंत मान और इंद्रप्रीत कौर ने कोर्ट में आपसी सहमति से तलाक की अर्जी लगाई थी। इस अर्जी में मान का तर्क था कि वे राजनीति के चलते अपनी पत्नी से तलाक ले रहे हैं।
