I’ll admit it, I think I probably have a psychological addiction to the Internet. Nerdy, I know right? And as a kid who never lived without a computer, or a life without Internet, I’m pretty sure I notice a change. Now, I’m not claiming I know it all, I mean after all I’m only 15, but when people make gigantic accusations about a huge thing such as the Internet, I can’t stay quiet.

Recently, a very logical and smart blogger created a slide show on what he thought was “web 3.0”, and in all respect I honestly can say I think it was good attempt, but failed miserably. There is a fine line between web 1.0 and 2.0, so clear you can base my life on it. In his recently slide (shown at the bottom of this post) the line he created is a very swerve-y and crooked line, web 2.0 and “web 3.0” just conjoin too much. I think he knows what he’s saying in his mind, but the way he portrays it I can only say I think he is miserably. Maybe we can move onto web 2.5 right now, but this idea is definitely not the web 3.0 .

A lot of things have been going on in the past week. One of those being losing my iPod for about 4-5 days, spazing about it, and ripping apart my room to find it.

After a good week of looking, I finally found the damn thing underneath my sheets (including the stretchy one), under the feather bed, wedged into the mattress. How my iPod made its way that far down, I have no clue, but the most important part was that I was 5 days behind on my video podcasts that I am absolutely addicted to.

I can admittedly say that I am hooked on all things Revision3. PopSiren is one of the podcasts that I would kill for. Not only are the girls on there pretty damn hot, but the quality of the show is awesome. PopSiren has everything from DIY, Science, Interviews, to new Bands. It’s a great show I highly recommend it.

Sarah Lane, the main host of the show, was interviewing a guest this week when she mentioned how unaware people are of the outside world within silicon valley. Me, being across the nation in a little state called Maryland can’t agree more. I have managed to sign a good amount of friends up for Twitter, but only about 27 use it weekly. Only a good few use it daily, and about 3 or 4 use it as much as I do.

The guest mentioned how it trickled down to everyone else. Firefox has made it out, took a few years but it certainly did. Facebook popped out, and I see more and more people of Flickr as it comes out. My only notice is that Flickr is like 3 years ago, for god sake Yahoo bought it. How long will it take for Twitter, Tumblr, and Vimeo to “trickle down?” There is a 3 year delay on the USA it seems. It takes a good 3 years from something to get from California to Maryland.

MY MESSAGE: Americans: you’re absolutely pathetic. Get with the times. Stop be scared to sign up for shit, and just do it.

A few weeks back when Alex Albretch mentioned his new membership on twitter on an episode on Diggnation, he mentioned the 3 time rule for a website. “First you see the site and you say that looks cool. Second, you … Continue reading →

A few weeks back when Alex Albretch mentioned his new membership on twitter on an episode on Diggnation, he mentioned the 3 time rule for a website. “First you see the site and you say that looks cool. Second, you hear about it again and say ‘Hey I’ve seen that before'”, and the third time you go ‘I’ll sign up!’.

For Hulu, the same rule applied. I had to get a few pushes forward in order to sign up. After all, the first two times I heard about it, I thought it was illegal, and I wouldn’t want to put my name out into a potential felony. But after a few words of comfort, I learned it was legal, and rather useful.

Hulu is a wonderful site that is slowly growing. Although it will take a while for them to gain all rights to a bunch of shows, they have a select few of my favorite, and tend to do a good job keeping up with the seasons. Family Guy, The Office, and etc. are updated within 24 hours of the update which makes me love the site.

The only thing I am having a hard time understanding is why everyone is giving the site such a hard time. Many of my internet twitter friends are having a hard time signing up because “it’s not good enough.” I just don’t understand what’s to lose by signing up for the site. If it’s free and legal, why not take it off the silver platter offered to you. Of course it needs to improve with new shows, but why not watch it develop. It makes you love it even more.

Once again, I say give the site a chance. What’s the worse that could happen?

Micro-blogging has been sweeping thousands of bloggers, ordinary people, and in some cases; even your mom.

Micro-blogging has been sweeping thousands of bloggers, ordinary people, and in some cases; even your mom. It’s the small form of updating the world on your thoughts, and actions. For example; you’d text the world and say “Going to grocery store!”

Personally, I’m a huge fan of the innovation and development of micro-blogging. I enjoy the use of it with opinions, activities, and spur of the moment thoughts, and how easy it can be updated as well as viewed.

Recently, due to the down time of Twitter and its unreliability, a lot of my favorite bloggers have been switching to the mimic site Plurk. There has been mixed reviews on the posts and nerdy forums about which one is better. In fact, the recent popularity of Plurk has caused the site to experience downtime as well.

Being a die-hard fan of Twitter, I decided that if I couldnt microblog on Twitter because it’s down, I would use Plurk. So, I eventually forced my way into signing myself up for Plurk to give it a test-drive. In my words, my grade for the drive would be a F.

While Plurk is a wonderful idea that can easily be another micro-blogging site, it’s interface and features just don’t match up to Twitter. I couldn’t even register a phone, or get updates via phone. In fact, there were some features I wanted to use, but Plurk refuses to give those features to you until you recieve more “karma” which is gained by activity and invites. I found it be a horrible resemblance to Facebook applications, where you have to invite 10 people to see your results.

There are some nice things Twitter can easily “borrow” from Plurk such as the sharing of files and pictures, as well as the drop-down menu of likes, hates, asks, etc. But overall, I think Twitter comes ahead.

In the mean time, I think everyone should give good old Twitter a break, and just wait it out. When Twitter goes down, just use my favorite site: Twiddict.

Choose what you want, but I reccomend Twitter, I think it’s the better choice.

FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER or FOLLOW ME ON PLURK
