Three Things Thursday: Styles

Romantic: I like pink, pearls, lace and all things pretty. I think there's a lot to be said for girls looking like girls. I like it! This is a comfy/romantic look that's perfect for everyday!

Western: This is a very simple version of something I'd wear. The western stuff I like is eyelet dresses, cowboy boots, turquoise jewelry and blue jeans!

Comfortable: Not sweatpants comfortable (yuck)! Knitted, heather grey, worn in comfortable. Things that let people know you do care what you look like but some days you just want to snuggle into a cable knit sweater and never leave. That kind of comfortable.

I guess my style is really an amalgamation of a lot of things!

I had a really hard time deciding what to get a good friend and mama-to-be for her baby shower. I picked something that I think will be useful for a while, but it was really hard! I've never been to a baby shower, or even known a mother-to-be for that matter! Hehe. So I was wondering what you all have chosen as a gift for a baby shower (for a boy), or what you would get!

Is that not the cutest thing ever!!! Oh my goodness. I am a little baby obsessed, but let's remember, I am not a mama! I always get the fun times, and when I care for little ones for a day or two for work, I know it is so hard! So don't you worry! I don't desire babies that much...yet! Hehe!

This week it's my favorite blogs! As of right now I have three favorites that I always go back to, and I will tell you just why!
Now, these are in no particular order, I did them alphabetically...just because!

Creature Comforts
This blog gives me ideas for anything holiday, crafty or creative. I absolutely love coming to this website and looking at their delicious freebies (that's right! Free crafty templates, downloads, fonts, ideas etc.) for any occasion! It's a really great place for inspiration and links to all sorts of other interesting blogs and pages!! Also, check out the personal blog of the same blogger, it's moving, and just a little slice that makes the blog that much more interesting and multi-layered.

The Pioneer Woman
Any woman who has the words 'love of butter' in their tagline for a blog is the most amazing thing in the world. Now, I love this blog for myself, for many reasons: I love recipes, Miss Drummond's sense of humor and style of writing, and everything beautiful and ranch-like...however, I do have an ulterior motive for being a Pioneer Woman fan. It's the mister. Yes, yes. I know what you're thinking. What? A man is your reason for loving her blog? Well, no! That's just silly! The blog is part of the reason I'm so irresistable to my man (hehe)! Take one look at the Cowboy Food section of her site and I gauruntee you great success in a relationship with a man. I once thought 'how many ways can you use butter?', and let me just tell you, Miss Drummond COUNTS THE WAYS! I am a huge fan of this blog! Everything about it makes me feel so happy and content. Her beautiful photography is absolutely something you should look at as well. She is someone I look to for inspiration often, and I think you might as well!!

Oh, Mishka
Finally, the person who made me want to get back into blogging - Oh, Mishka. Her blog has great style bits, personal touches, and a generally home-y feel. I like how she has an adorable cat and a way of making everything seem kind of simple and sweet! I have a strange inability to express why I like this blog, because it's the kind of blog I'm not sure a lot of people would expect me to like. Michelle (her real name) has introduced me to a lot of other websites, bloggers, and just general online knowledge on her blog over the time I've been reading it, and I think I view her as a kind of 'resource'. Now, to say that sounds kind of strange, because I look to her as inspiration to be creative and happy with what you do, and I think the reason I enjoy her blog so much is because she puts so much care and attention to it, and through her love of her blog, we get to share in that with her! I thank this blog especially for a lot of my desire to start blogging again, and I think you should all pop over and check her out!!

Alright, now I know what you're all thinking...'uh, isn't this supposed to be Thursday Threes? Why is it Friday?' and my answer to you, is...I really have no idea. I stayed up to watch the Royal Wedding (and posted basically her exact dress the evening before on my Twitter saying it is the exact dress I'd like to wear, and I can't wait to be asked if I got the idea from this...alright, you get the point), and I picked my sister up from the bus stop at 1am (hey, sis! I know you're reading this!), and even though I had purposely written this blog before hand to post it, I suppose it just slipped my mind.

So, on my agenda for today: buy an agenda. :)

It's Tuesday, and you know what that means! ...Well, little to nothing. But you do get a blog from me! And I'm pretty sure I was born on a Tuesday...maybe. Could have been a Thursday.

Anyways!

Today has been rather uneventful, I took the day off and stayed home. There was a decent amount of rain and thunder, so I was a little bit on edge. I love storms but when they start I get really anxious as if by some chance something strange will happen...or God forbid...I lose my internet connection. Now, I know what you're thinking "really? your internet connection?" and to that I say "ehh, yeah".

It's just been one of those days! I've been hooked in Pinterest the past few days. I got my account quite a few months ago, it may have even been in the summer, but I'm not sure. The concept was so confusing at first! You wonder what the heck you're supposed to do. And there really is no instruction. Not to mention when I want to pin something to a certain board I usually can't because the text box covers my list of options...that's a crummy glitch. Lol.

I like how great it is for inspiration. I find so much on there, and I think it's so exciting to find something you really love doing that inspires you!

Schedule Time!

There are a few things I want to set into motion in my last year before I'm done school, and that includes setting a schedule! Here's what I'm thinking!

Tuesday: A personal bog post, which could include a DIY, part of my day, a special trip, the cowboy, or anything else!

Three Things Thursday: I may or may not have loved this idea from Oh, Mishka (who is one of my absolute favorite bloggers...ever!), by making a three things list surrounding anything, like songs you'd like to share, foods, places you'd like to travel, anything! I think this is a great way for people to kind of get to know me a little better!

Foodie Fridays: Exactly what you think it is! It's going to have recipes, favorite foods, food bloggers, anything food-related! And let me tell you, I love me some food. If you want healthy place to find great recipes...well, this certainly will not be it! Hehe.

Can't wait to try this out!! I'm so excited! I've got a lot going on, so let's hope I can get into the swing of things in these next couple of weeks, I'm excited about this!

Do something you always told yourself you never would?
Is that sentence a little too confusing? Ha ha.

I told myself I'd never get a tattoo, and I still don't think I would, but I am mighty tempted by some beauties...

I'm fascinated by anchors, water, and all things nautical. I have loved the water so much since I was little, but nothing in tattoo form would do that justice.
Get this? No.
Thoughts? Cute.

My favorite of all of the tattoos, I have an incurable case of wanderlust. And I do mean incurable. I don't like to stay in one place at all, and I have so many places I want to travel!
Get it? Possibly.
Thoughts? Lovely.

And the last, I think this one is just nice. It's representative of how we all feel, that part of us is our past, and the other part our future. I may just be feeling nostalgic on this certain day, but this one's lovely.
Get it? Probably not.

It's such a hassle for me to find good summer dresses! I'm petite, not to mention more modest than most anything you can find in stores here! So, I like to look online and dream of owning some of these pretty things!! He he!

Surprise, Surprise!

I was absolutely astonished this weekend! I was feeling a little sick and didn't want my boyfriend to travel all the way to where I am (about an hour) to just have me laying in bed like a dead fish! So I told him to post pone our plans a couple of days so that I don't waste his time and he agreed...

Or so I thought...
Approximately an hour later I was hiding out in my room while my mom's "client" came by to pick up some stuff, so when someone started to open my door and a guys body/face appeared I was terrified...THEN I REALIZED IT WAS MY HANDSOME MAN!!

He had come to save me from my sickness and make me feel all better. We ended up going out and having a good time and taking my mind off my tummy ills, it was just so lovely.

He's the best thing on God's green earth and I can't believe how lucky I am to have him in my life and be blessed with his heart and his kindness and care.

I wish each and every one of you find your prince and feel as loved and love as greatly as I do.
Not to mention we've spent every day this weekend together and it was a dream come true!! He he, we went to a candy store and climbed "Everest", played mini sticks and ate mozzarella sticks!

Your Dream Home!!

For one of the classes I'm taking I'm currently doing a project about my dream home. Now there are so many styles and decors out there that it's a little intimidating to try and pick out what you love...

I'm not very good at interior design and I am currently just roughly sketching out the blue prints of the house, but I want very badly to make a little scrap book, or whatever you call it, that I'm proud of!! I want to find inspiration and joy and be able to keep this project and show my kids way down the line what I wanted when I was younger and show them that what you dream is possible!!

Remember that this home is if you could have whatever you wanted and you had a gazillion dollars to do it with!!
For starters, I like Victorian, cottage-style and plantation homes (now if that isn't a mixed bag, I don't know what is!). I want it to be located in a rural area that is perhaps a small township (no cities, please!!!) and have a good amount of land, maybe some beautiful mountains and hills in the area (not just flat land).

See what I'm saying here?
I NEED SOME HELP!

If you're a good home design guru and you know a place that has a simple layout for you to pick and choose (kind of a home design polyvore of sorts...) that would be absolutely amazing!! Thank you for all your help!!

Recipe: Bacon and Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese

Ingredients

1 tsp. kosher salt, plus more for salting the pasta water
1 lb. fusilli (corkscrew) or other pasta (I used De Cecco fusilli)
3/4 lb. bacon, diced (about 1 cup cooked)
3 cups heavy cream (I used 18%)
2 cups (about 1/2 lb.) firmly packed cheddar cheese (grate it by hand, the way they produce pre-grated cheese makes it lose a lot of the goodness of hand-shredded cheese!)
1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

for garnish, you could use 1/2 cup sour cream and/or 1/2 cup thinly sliced scallions (white and green parts)

1. Bring a medium (6- to 8-quart) pot of water to a boil. Salt it generously (they recommended it "taste like the sea", but I didn't add that much salt because it already calls for so much "bad" food I tried to limit what I could ha ha!). Stir in pasta and cook, then drain it (but do not rinse, the startches will help thicken the sauce!!) and return to pot.

2. Place large (12- to 14-inch) saute pan (I used a big wok) over high heat for several minutes. When hot, add the bacon and saute until browned and crispy (lower the heat to medium-high if necessary to prevent scorching - I did this!), about 5 minutes. Remove the pan from heat and using a slotted spoon/spatula, remove the bacon from the pan and drain on paper towels.
3. Pour off the fat from the bacon into a heat-proof cup or bowl (not down your drain, it will cause your pipes to clog!!) and return the pan to medium-high heat. Add the heavy cream and bring to a boil, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Lower the heat to medium and continue to simmer until the cream is reduced slightly, about 3 minutes.

4. Add the cheddar cheese and bacon. Stir well and cook over medium-high heat, stirring now and then, until the cheese has melted and the mixture thickens, about 3 minutes. Season with the salt and pepper (I just eyeballed it, a few crates from the pepper and a few shakes from the salt!).

5. Stir the sauce into the cooked and drained pasta in the pot. Place over medium heat and simmer for 1-2 minutes to thicken the sauce and allow the pasta to absorb the flavours, stirring now and then.

6. Serve!

This meal was SUPER hearty and creamy! Not for the weak-of-heart! Ha ha! I don't recommend you make this one a weekly event, but it is tasty and the mister absolutely loved it!

This is definitely a meal you can play around with, you can add more veggies to the sauce, or even change up the cheeses you use! It's a pretty basic recipe so just try new things!!

Fresh Starts!

It's just amazing how in my last year of school I realize how much I've missed by NOT being in a semestered school. My regular pattern in a full-year is to do well by first report card, then gradually slip down until my second last one, then try my best to pull it all back up with final assignments and my exams. Unfortunately, that takes a lot out of a person and definitely puts you in a position where you've got a bad taste left in your mouth and it's completely you!

So my happiness begins today! It's my second semester (that's lovely to say), and a fresh start for me! So now I have the chance to begin again, work on what didn't work the first term and choose courses I know I want to take!

I'm happy to say I'm positive and motivated for the first time in a long time and I can't wait!

Are you addicted to The Knot?

I swear! It's not what you think! Ha ha! I never used to be this way, and I never thought I'd be "one of those girls"...but it's true! I AM!

If Say Yes to the Dress is on then you can bet your buckles I'll be watching it! I also have a (probably not-so-secret) subscription to The Knot. It's essentially a website for anything wedding.

Now let's be clear before everyone goes screaming about some wedding-crazed teen! Ha ha! Of the amount of time I spend thinking about my future, only about 3-5% of that is on a wedding. I dream about my future man, family, home and career. So don't you all fuss and worry (all three of you)!

So does anyone else have this obsession? I think it's just the dresses mostly, because I think they're so pretty and I'm amazed that someone can put together such a beautiful piece! Then again, some look like cocktail dresses, but let's just leave designers to their own volition!

Just in case you have other interests, The Knot has two sister sites called The Bump and The Nest, which are exactly what you think! Home and living, and pregnancy and parenting websites. I like 'em because they're informative and it really helps you to understand how big of a decision things in life are! I mean you see people everyday getting married and divorced, then married again, and in my personal opinion (and don't you go thinking I think any less of people who are divorced or remarried, you should do whatever makes your heart happy, but I do think in MANY cases, people are too frivolous), some people just don't take things like marriage seriously. I know teenagers who haven't had relationships longer than a couple of months and they're already prepping for marriage and children, and that's a hard pill to swallow!!

For me, someone who is definitely always thinking about details, it's hard to make big decisions without a lot of research and education.

Well this post totally lost the flavor I started with! So my main point is, I LIKE WEDDING THINGS. And you should too (and if you don't, well I'll just take your share of wedding goodness too...*scoops onto my plate*)

Hopefully in the next few months I'll be able to take a course I've been wanting to take on cake decorating (fondant in particular!), so I'll be able to get creative in my own kitchen (p.s. I was just thinking about how The Knot has a wedding cakes section...oh dear!).

It's so important in this world to always be full of love for yourself and those around you!! Even if someone is a negative Nancy, you have to rise above it and know that you're a positive force in the world and those negative people just need more people like you in their lives!!

I know what it feels like to be loved and cared for so much you have no option but to take in some of that love!!

I have so so so much love for this lovely guy in my heart, and it's always happiness for us! Some people say you can't always be happy but I truely believe you can! Sometimes you have low points, I suppose, but they are so few and far between because you always have to CHOOSE HAPPINESS!! Even when I have low points he makes me laugh the second he picks up the phone and I just have every heaviness in my heart lifted!!

I hope each and every one of you find love and happiness, and even if it's on your own it's important to always just choose to be happy! In situations where you can't control things, take a second, breathe, and say to yourself "I can't control this! Sometimes you've just gotta laugh and acecpt it!" and I promise you will he better for it!!

Ready or not...here I come??

What keeps you motivated?!
Is it being outside? Creating something? Talking to others?

I find that at different points in my life different things have become my motivation. Often times I am prone to procrastination, but I always want to do and try new things! That is why I think finding your motivation is important!

Sometimes exercise can motivate me (but what do I do to motivate myself to exercise?! ha ha!), other times just going outside for a walk can motivate me, but lately, it's been the snow! Looking outside and seeing all this beautiful puffy white powder has been phenomenal in making me feel creative, happy and strong. Of course, the grey skies can make you feel a little bit lax, but that doesn't compare to completing a project!!

I use tons of resources to find new ways to keep myself informed and motivated. One site I've used for years now is called Mind Your Mind and it allows you to find ways to deal with stress, inform yourself about mental health, find new and cool music and even link to other great resources!

I hope you all have happy winter days, and if you are in a place where the sun doesn't stop shining, I hope you have happy warm winter days!! Stay positive!!

Well, let's just say that these last few months have been the best, most fantastic, love-filled, cherished that I've had in a very long time. I spent all of July in Ireland feeling awe-struck of its sunning-ness (so awe-struck I make up new words), and appreciating the diversity of potatos. Then August I had a bit of a break and then back to travel! I went up north to a cottage, then to another cottage (I really am spoiled), and then to hectic but very-European Montreal to bid someone very dear to me au revoir for another year!

I'm back to my usual life and have now got a job lined up, one sewing class I'll be taking come November and kickboxking if I ever convince myself that I won't make a complete fool of myself and that it's O-K to hit someone...in this circumstance. Then, hopefully, I'll get the volunteer position I've been dreaming of at the Police station. That sounds questionable, but I wanted to be a police officer for quite a long time, and now that aspiration has changed but I do appreciate all that they do for my community/city/country, and all of the officers I've met have been very cool people.

Right, now that you're updated, I have some exciting news!!!

I'm on my way to buying myself a *frugal Sara gasps* new camera (and a very nice one, at that), so now I'll be able to post photos of my cooking and daily adventures as opposed to just writing about it, which I'm sure will be a bonus. My camera broke this past July due to water damage (when they say it rains everyday in Ireland...they mean it rains EVERY. DAY. in Ireland), and I was very sad about this, but I've still got my little darling that has treated me well, and hopefully this new camera will be a joy!

Ireland, here I come!

Countdown to Ireland! I'll be leaving this Thursday for the month of July to take a course abroad in Ireland. I'm so excited!! I'm not much of a "planner" so most of my getting-ready-tasks are still on the to-do list!

I can't wait to see beautiful Ireland.

Updates!

So there's a lot of new things going on for me, starting with my amazing trip for this summer!!! I'll be headed to beautiful Ireland for a month to do a literature course! How exciting is that?? I'm feeling nervous about the amount of work, but the fact that I can hear Irish accents for a month is making me pretty enthusiastic about the challenge. I realized that I also now plan to find a way to Scotland because it's just as beautiful in my eyes and is my next official traveling goal!

Also, on my way home yesterday a friend of mine picked up a book on the side of the street and handed it to me and the sticky note on the cover read: 'I'm free! I'm not lost!', so I continued to read and found out that this book is taking a journey around the world, and people read it, write a little entry on the website, and then leave it for someone else to find. I'm planning on taking it to Ireland with me, and I hope for the best! The website is BookCrossing and I'm excited to read the book, it's called Home Before Dark and is a biography written by a daughter about her fathers life through friends and families personal memories and his letters and journals.

This Sunday I'm ALSO participating in a 10k run (yeah, you heard me...unfortunately), and it's for Sporting Life and I'm very excited though I might end up walking most of it, hahaha.

And lastly...my vlog. I was told by someone that I needed to have some kind of routine in my life so I don't go crazy just trying to figure out how to occupy my time, so I started a vlog on Youtube called '30 Days of Vlog' and it's mostly just updates about my life and things I'm doing, so most people probably won't be interested but I'll link you in my next post (which is part of my planning to do things regularly) and tell you the link!!

That's pretty much it for me, I promise to make this a priority for me but it's now exam time and I've been cramming and doing final projects and assignments for the last couple of weeks. Already my weekend is packed with studying and many many many trips to the research library!! If you have any study tips for exams, by the way, please let me know. I'm such a scatterbrain and I'm not sure how to do this!!

Bike Heaven!!

I got my bike! Hoo-ya!
It's currently in the shop (tear tear), but that bad boy was free and I'm just paying for a nice little tune up. I'm so happy! I finally can live without all those transit fares for a few months (i.e. $4 to come and go from the public library, sad day)!
I'm getting some lovely new neighbors downstairs - namely my best lady-friend and her sister. Who is stunning. Watch out!

I've also been deathly ill this week, and the weather is so beautiful it's such a shame. I actually haven't been outside in going on 4 days. That cannot be healthy! I need to take a walk.
Also, a couple of weeks ago my long-time bf 'Dr. J' as I call him, made me this beautiful dinner for my birthday, a hush hush event, and made all my favorites and let me pick the movie (control over the remote?!) and bought me a beautiful gift. It was the most fantastic evening I've ever had! I'm also aware I have to do these more often because I'm incapable of anything remotely seeming like a 'smooth transition'.

Oh! I've been cooking a lot lately (not while I'm sick, I like baking but not enough to potentially infect my victi- uh, friends) and I found that I am the most picky, unhealthy and difficult person to cook for. Everyone I love knows what I do and don't like (namely my dislike for fruits - yes, I know, you're shocked and thinking 'how can someone not like fruits??' well, I don't, that's how), but when I go to a restaurant or look at recipes there's always stuff I want outta that food. So, I've decided to toughen up and make things I don't even know if I like before. Lately I've come across a lot of meatless recipes for things, (which always makes me think of my sister and her perfectly fit body-how she does it, I may never know) and I think, 'hey, maybe she'd like something like that?' (although most times what she likes I couldn't eat, but I find happy mediums) and I go ahead and make it. Like, for instance, this Pappardelle with Caramelized Onions and Parmesan. God bless you, Martha Stewart. She's fantastic. Anyways, this is my next project and I'm excited about it. Now if only I could get better...Next recipe is Bolognese Lasagna (oh, and did I mention it has bechamel sauce?? Oh yeah!).

Could I be any more behind??

So much has happened since I last posted.

Olympics in Canada all February, and I've watched almost every event, rushing home after school to see it. Including that beautiful, victorious, fantastic Canadian gold medal men's hockey win. With 14 golds, we sure made it a month to remember. There were some blips along the way, and a few close calls, plus one horrifying tragedy (R.I.P.), we made it through.

My birthday just passed, I'm the big 1-7. It's not that exciting, to be honest, and I didn't celebrate, but heaven help me if I didn't gobble up that birthday cake.

Oh! I should be getting my bike by the end of this week, and I'm feeling motivated now that the sun's finally out all day, and I can stay out until 9 and still have the light guide me through the city.

I'm just so lucky to be where I am, with the people I love. This is really a beautiful life.
