It is typically caused by asbestos exposure, although the tumors may not form until 10 to 20 years after the initial exposure. Also, because this cancer is difficult to detect, it may have spread too far for you to heal completely. Instead, you can rely on surgery to help extend your life in the face of this disease.
Although mesothelioma can form in many different areas of your body, it is most common in the lining of the lungs. This is because microscopic asbestos fibers can become lodged in your lung tissue if you accidentally inhale them. Frustratingly, the body cannot dissolve the fibers, instead forming dense tissue nodules around them. Asbestos is a known human carcinogen, so over time these nodules can turn into cancerous tumors.

First, one of the most common side effects of mesothelioma in the lungs, or pleural mesothelioma, is the buildup of fluid in the space around the lungs. This pressure can hinder you from taking full, deep breaths. Some noninvasive surgeries, such as pleurodesis or thoracentesis, involve placing a long, thin needle into the fluid-filled cavity and draining the liquid. While this can help you breathe easier for a while, the fluid can build up again and again.

Next, you can undergo conventional lung surgeries such as pneumonectomy, lobectomy, or wedge resection. With these surgeries, doctors remove either an entire lung, a lobe of the lung, or a piece of the lung, respectively. However, tumors from mesothelioma are often widespread, which may prevent doctors from getting all of the tumors with one of these surgeries.

Lastly, there are two new surgery options for mesothelioma patients in an attempt to remove all of the diseased tissue. With a pleurectomy, doctors remove the layer of cells that line the lungs, called the pleura. This is often done only as a palliative treatment rather than a way to completely eradicate your cancer.

Another radical surgery option is an extrapleural pneumonectomy. This process involves removing the epithelial cells, or lining, from the lungs as well as those of the heart and diaphragm. If the tumors have gone deeper into your lungs, doctors may remove these masses during the process as well. Additionally, they can replace the lining with synthetic materials. This surgery can be difficult for weak patients, but it can also dramatically extend your lifespan.

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it is important to understand all of your treatment options and their risks before you decide on a treatment plan.

To learn more about mesothelioma treatment, please visit the Mesothelioma Resource Center today.

James Witherspoon
Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=James_Witherspoon

http://EzineArticles.com/?Surgical-Options-for-Mesothelioma-Patients&id=5292460

Books

100 Questions & Answers About Lung Cancer, Second Edition<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=thefasdig-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0763760536" alt="" style="border: medium none ! It also can affect the heart and abdomen. Usually after diagnosis, a patient will only live up to one year or less. According to several studies, there are about 2,000-3,000 cases of Mesothelioma each year. The International Labor Organization has estimated about 100,000 to 140,000 workers from around the world die of Mesothelioma each year. There has been a future prediction that this type of cancer will cause 5-10 million deaths from now into the future.

This type of rare cancer is from being exposed to asbestos-usually found in older buildings or structures. An individual unknowingly inhales the fibers that then become lodged into human tissue which cause an infection. Asbestos was widely used during the 20th century, but then the hazards of this material began to become public within the 1970's.

It is hard to detect Mesothelioma in its early stage because there are hardly any noticeable symptoms-which is why most of the time it isn't detected until it is too late. If a person believes that he or she has been exposed to asbestos, then it is important that he undergo a chest X-ray or pulmonary function tests to check for signs of asbestos inhalation.

Noticeable symptoms of Mesothelioma include

• A persistent or raspy cough,

• Coughing up blood

• Difficulty when swallowing

• Night sweats,

• Unexplained weight loss

• Fatigue

• A frequent pain in the chest or rib area

• Shortness of breath

• Lumps under the skin on the chest

There are a few ways to treat Mesothelioma once it has been diagnosed. Doctors must first find out which stage before considering which treatment to use. Some of the forms of treatments include chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Each case is unique and will depend on the situation and stage of the cancer. As Mesothelioma is being researched, and more cases are coming to surface, there are some patients who are surpassing their one year life expectancy. With more research, new cases and treatments, perhaps more of those diagnosed can hope for the better and have a chance to survive this rare, yet rising Cancer.

For more information on How Mesothelioma can affect you or a loved one please visit.
http://www.Siteso.com

Rod Bird Author and Master Craftsman has been building professionally since 1999 For Mesothelioma information, Articles and links Please visit
http://www.Siteso.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Rod_Bird
http://EzineArticles.com/?Mesothelioma-Is-A-Rare-and-Growing-Form-of-Cancer-in-the-Lungs&id=5230521

Books

Advances in Surgical Pathology: Lung Cancer

Letters from the Land of Cancer

Lung Cancer: Making Sense of Diagnosis, Treatment, and Options

Lung Cancer: Causes, Symptoms, Signs, Diagnosis, Treatments, Stages. It is primarily the result of asbestos exposure. Because mesothelioma can form ten, fifteen, and even twenty years after asbestos exposure, it has often progressed into later-stage cancer by the time doctors recognize and diagnose your problem. However, in some cases it can still be treated or managed with treatment options like radiation.
Radiation is a powerful form of energy that travels in the form of waves or particles. It is naturally present in a number of different places, such as sunlight and even sound waves. Tiny amounts of radioactive particles in the earth can also give off what is called background radiation. Thus, many people are exposed to minimal amounts of radiation throughout their lives.

Mankind has harnessed the power of radioactive material to use it as things like a clean energy source and medical diagnostic equipment such as x-rays. In a more intense form, it can be used as radiation therapy for cancer. Radiation is one of the three conventional cancer treatments. Although radiation is dangerous in high doses, it can be targeted and controlled to help kill cancerous cells in a person with mesothelioma.

Once you are diagnosed with mesothelioma and have devised a treatment plan including radiation, doctors will decide on the form of radiation treatment that is best for you. You can undergo external radioactive therapy, where beams of this energy form are shot at your tumors from outside of your body. Internal radiation therapy involves placing radioactive materials inside tumors to kill them from within. Lastly, you can also receive injections of radioactive material to help fight cancer.

Because mesothelioma typically forms many small tumors, internal radiation is a popular form of treatment for this cancer. Recent studies have shown that radioactive gold and chromic phosphate can help with mesothelioma, although your body may respond differently to the treatment.

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it is important that you have all of the information you need regarding this disease before you make a decision about treatment.

To learn more about mesothelioma, please visit the Mesothelioma Help Center today.

James Witherspoon

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=James_Witherspoon

http://EzineArticles.com/?Radiation-Treatment-for-Mesothelioma&id=5279485

Books

Lung Cancer: Myths, Facts, Choices--and Hope<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=thefasdig-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0393324982" alt="" style="border: medium none ! In truth, there is a big difference between Mesothelioma and asbestos.
As a society, we tend to generalize terms that we use frequently. I am as guilty of this as anyone. I order a coke every time at a drive through or restaurant. Why is this weird? Well, I use the term to cover the general area of a soda. I do this even though I prefer Pepsi to Coke. In fact, I prefer Dr. Pepper to both of them, but I will still just order a "coke".

The Mesothelioma-asbestos scourge is so devastating that it is easy to fall into the same pattern. Most people can't pronounce Mesothelioma. I certainly could not when I started out. Given this, it is probably not much of a surprise that the cause and health results all now seem to be categorized as the "asbestos problem". This is a massive simplification of a complex issue and sure not accurate. Let's take a look.

So, what is the difference between Mesothelioma and asbestos? The answer is simple. Asbestos is a toxic material. When a person is exposed to it in its fibrous form, the person may breathe it into their lungs and suffer subsequent health problems. These problems vary, but can include a nasty form of cancer known as Mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma gets its name from the part of the body the cancer tends to start out in - the mesothelium. The mesothelium is a lining that runs around the trunk cavity and all major organs. It acts as a buffer between the organs. It is comprised of two layers of "skin" that have lubrication between them. This allows organs like the lungs to expand and retract without harming the organs around them or building up heat from friction. Regardless, Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that grows in this area. It grows very slowly, but is extremely difficult to detect.

What is the difference between Mesothelioma and asbestos? One is a cancer and one is the material that causes it.

Thomas Ajava writes about Mesothelioma asbestos difference and other Mesothelioma issues for MesotheliomaAttorneyAssistance.com.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Thomas_Ajava

http://EzineArticles.com/?Mesothelioma---The-Confusing-Relationship-With-Asbestos&id=5162463

Books

How to Survive Lung Cancer - A Practical 12-Step Plan<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=thefasdig-20&l=as2&o=1&a=1435704711" alt="" style="border: medium none ! Chemotherapy, commonly shortened to chemo, is one of three main, conventional methods of cancer treatment. While this powerful drug can help you eradicate cancer or at least keep it at bay, its potency can also affect other healthy areas of your body.
Chemotherapy consists of drugs that can be administered orally or through an injection. Regardless, the drugs reach your bloodstream, where they travel throughout your body fighting cancerous cells. Because chemo is actually a whole-body treatment, it is also called systemic medication.

It is difficult for your body's immune system to attack and fight cancerous cells because these cells come from within your own body. They carry special "self" tags that the immune system recognizes as harmless cells. Chemotherapy, on the other hand, simply attacks all cells that grow and divide rapidly, one of the signs of a cancerous tumor. At the same time, however, the chemo can also target your body's cells that grow and divide at this same rapid rate, like hair follicles, gastrointestinal cells, and others. This is why a person who goes through chemo treatment often experiences hair loss, nausea, and vomiting after a round of chemotherapy.

Because not all tumors grow at the same rate, doctors and oncologists can customize your chemo cocktail with drugs that target specific growth rates or growth patterns. However, as with traditional chemo, each of these drugs will also harm your body's own cells that fit the same patterns.

With chemo, it is important for you to eat healthy and remain strong because its side effects can actually leave you weaker than before treatment. Besides hair loss, nausea, and vomiting, other side effects of this powerful treatment include:

Fatigue

Low white blood cell count

Decreased red blood cell count

Low platelet count

One danger of decreased white blood cell count is an increased risk of infection. Because white blood cells help you fight pathogens, chemotherapy can interfere with your body's ability to protect itself from infections. Your doctor must carefully devise a chemo regimen that hits cancerous cells as hard as possible while still trying to protect your own healthy cells.

Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer that often requires chemotherapy due to the abundance of tiny tumors that it can form. If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it is important to understand all of your treatment options before agreeing to a treatment regimen. It is characterized by the formation of cancerous tumors on mesothelium membrane which is made up of mesothelial cells and protects internal body organs. In mesothelioma this protective lining gets damaged by the formation of cancerous cells and causes ultimate death to that person. Once these cells produce on mesothelium, they start to proliferate rapidly to assume the form of cancerous tumors. This disease shows its symptoms too lately when it becomes almost impossible for doctors to save patient's life.
Types of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma occurs in three forms including:

1- Pleural Mesothelioma

2- Peritoneal Mesothelioma

3- Pericardial Mesothelioma

1- Pleural Mesothelioma

In this type of cancer the protective lining around chest cavity (including lungs) called pleura gets damaged due to the proliferation of cancerous cells. It is the most common type of mesothelioma. Its symptoms include persistent dry cough, shortness of breath, coughing up blood (hemoptysis) and night sweats etc.

2- Peritoneal Mesothelioma

In this type of mesothelioma, the protective lining around abdominal cavity is affected by the formation of cancerous cells. This protective covering is called peritoneum. Despite tremendous efforts going on vast scale mesothelioma seems to be an undefeatable health concern confronting a large section of society today. But why these efforts are going in vain and why it seems so difficult to overcome this growing menace? The answer is that there are present some important factors due to which mesothelioma has become a challenge for world best doctors and physicians. Those factors due to which it is hard to control and treat mesothelioma are discussed here briefly.
1- Mesothelioma Symptoms Appear Very Lately

The very first reason which creates obstacle in diagnosing mesothelioma timely is late appearance of its symptoms. In majority of mesothelioma cases patient is diagnosed at such stage where fewer options left in hand for his physician to increase the number of days of his life. A patient suffering from mesothelioma shows symptoms after 15 to 25 years or even late when it becomes almost impossible to get him back to healthy life track. Therefore it is also categorized among those diseases that act like a 'silent killer' for human life.

2- Short Period Asbestos Exposure Is Enough to Cause Mesothelioma

The next reason is the high possibility of cancerous cells proliferation only after 2 to 3 months exposure to asbestos. It does not require several years' asbestos exposure to spread its roots into protective lining of human body organs. Short term asbestos exposure is enough to cause mesothelioma easily.

3- Rapid Spread through Direct or Indirect Asbestos Exposure

Lastly it spreads rapidly either by direct or indirect exposure to asbestos. Indirect exposure involves inhaling in the atmosphere containing dust particles coming from a mesothelioma victim. In this way indirect asbestos exposure can cause spreading it among all family members if one of them unfortunately becomes its victim through direct exposure.

So these are the reasons due to which day and night efforts to control and overcome this type of cancer are being wasted. The only thing which can be done is to halt the process of proliferation of cancerous cells by applying various treatment options including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery but nothing can be done to reverse the damage done to protective lining of internal body parts.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Nayab_Sh

http://EzineArticles.com/?Why-Is-It-Difficult-to-Defeat-Mesothelioma?&id=5211046

Books

Lung Cancer: Myths, Facts, Choices--and Hope<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=thefasdig-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0393324982" alt="" style="border: medium none ! As one can easily see these symptoms do not necessarily lead to discovering the presence of a cancer condition inside one's body. But once you present these symptoms go and check with a physician knowing that you have a history in dealing with asbestos.

* The diagnosis - can be made in the same way that is performed for any other form of cancer. The only difference, also the main one, is that the exposure to asbestos can be a good key in diagnosing mesothelioma. X-rays and blood tests are the first steps to take, then CT and MRI scans can be also necessary. Getting samples of fluid from the abdomen region or lungs area may be the last things needed to make a definite diagnosis of the mesothelioma disease.

* The treatment - can be performed after finding an experienced physician used to treating mesothelioma. Unfortunately, it is misleading to talk about cures as successful treatment in mesothelioma cases hasn't been found yet, however, good treatment will increase the sufferers life expectancy. Depending on the stage of disease lengthening of life expectancy can be achieved, however it is dependent upon early discovery of the disease.

* Your rights when being diagnosed with mesothelioma - they are related to the working field you have been in, even if this happened tens of years before when you had to handle asbestos as part of your job. The company hiring you knew about the damages that this material does to those who deal with it, and for this they need to pay as they haven't provided enough protection to prevent you from contracting this lethal disease.

Therefore having found a mesothelioma attorney you will be entitled to sue the company and get the compensation that they must pay for being negligent. With the help of an experienced mesothelioma attorney you can build a strong case and get the rights that you are entitled to.

I have set up a website specifically for those people who do not know where to start when they find out that they, or someone close to them has contracted mesothelioma. There was a great cheer the year it happened, but the ban has so many holes in it that it isn't much of a ban to speak of.
The manufacturers of asbestos products didn't make a lot of money on the products. No, they made absolutely huge amounts of money. As you can imagine, they were not particularly interested in giving up their cash cow. No, they fought like mad to keep the products going out and the revenues coming in. While they were unable to stop the assault on their products, they were able to delay banning of asbestos for nearly two decades.

Asbestos was eventually banned on July 12, 1989. At least that is the accepted date. Unfortunately, it is a red herring of sorts. The problem is the manufacturers didn't stop fighting. They challenged the ban in court. In 1991, they eventually convinced an appellate court to partially overturn the ban and things have remained the same to this day.

So, what is banned and what is not? Well, let's start with the easy part of the issue. Any "new uses" of asbestos are banned. This means that the material cannot be used in products or manners that it historically has not been used. For instance, it could not be used in an iPad.

What about past uses? Ah, that is a disturbing subject. Essentially, asbestos manufacturers can continue to use it in all products in the market prior to 1989 with certain exceptions. They are flooring felt, rollboard, and corrugated, commercial, or specialty paper. That is it. Asbestos can still be used in other construction material, clothing and whatever. In short, we are talking about a very weak ban indeed.

So, is asbestos included in a lot of products today? Some, but not very many. The problem is not the ban. Instead, it is simply very difficult to sell products that have asbestos in them. Would you buy one? I wouldn't! Where the asbestos ban of 1989 has proved fairly impotent, the reaction of consumers has made more of an impact. At least in the United States.

Thomas Ajava writes about the year asbestos banned and other Mesothelioma and asbestos issues for MesotheliomaAttorneyAssistance.com.
Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Thomas_Ajava

http://EzineArticles.com/?Asbestos---When-Did-We-See-The-Light-And-Put-A-Stop-To-It?&id=5162449

Books

How to Survive Lung Cancer - A Practical 12-Step Plan

Be A Survivor: Lung Cancer Treatment Guide

Lung Cancer

QuickFACTS Lung Cancer

Help Me Live: 20 Things People with Cancer Want You to Know

Advances in Surgical Pathology: Lung Cancer

Letters from the Land of Cancer

Lung Cancer: Making Sense of Diagnosis, Treatment, and Options

Lung Cancer: Causes, Symptoms, Signs, Diagnosis, Treatments, Stages. There is also irrefutable evidence that since the early part of the 20th century the asbestos industry has been fully aware that there is a definite link between asbestos and cancer.
In addition, there is incontestable evidence that the asbestos industry chose to protect their profits rather than make this information known to the general public. Some of this evidence can be found in what has come to be known as "The Sumner Simpson Papers."

Saranac Laboratory is Hired to Research the Effects of Asbestos Dust

The Saranac Laboratory, located in the Adirondack Mountain region of upstate New York, had been doing research on dusts since the early 1920s. In 1936 a number of asbestos companies jointly funded Saranac to do research for them. They subsequently renewed their annual contract with Saranac Laboratory for the next ten years.

Part of what Saranac found was that there was a link between being exposed to asbestos and cancer.

In January 1947 the companies that funded the Saranac research met.

It has been discerned that the companies decided that "there would be no publication of the research of experiments without consent," and that anything that would be published "would not include any objectionable material." They specifically referred to, "any relation between asbestos and cancer."

The conglomerate that funded Saranac agreed that "the reference to cancer and tumors should be deleted" from the report. Consequently, when Saranac's report about their dust experiments was published, evidence that linked asbestos exposure to cancer was suppressed.

The Sumner Simpson Papers

From the 1930s through the 1940s Sumner Simpson was president of Raybestos-Manhattan, Inc.

In 1935, in correspondence to an attorney for Johns-Manville Corporation, Vandiver Brown, Simpson, when commenting on the asbestos industry, wrote "the less said about asbestos, the better off we are."

Simpson also pressured trade industry publications to follow the dictates of the asbestos industry's decisions. The publisher of Asbestos Magazine wrote Simpson a letter in 1939 which, when referring to asbestosis, said, "Always you have requested that for certain obvious reasons we publish nothing, and naturally, your wishes have been respected."

In 1941 Vandiver Brown, who had become a corporate officer of Johns-Manville Corporation, wrote, "I felt there was considerable likelihood that a number of subscribers would dislike an article on this subject in the trade magazine of the asbestos industry. I had in mind the ostrich-like attitude which has been evidenced from time to time by members of the industry."

The corporate cover up continued for decades.

How Did the Asbestos Industry Feel About Its Workers?

How the industry felt about its workers was probably best summed up in a document in 1966 written by the Director of Purchases for Bendix Corporation, E.A. Martin. In it he said:

"My answer to the problem is: if you have enjoyed a good life while working with asbestos products why not die from it. There's got to be some cause."

If you or someone you love has been struck down by mesothelioma or another asbestos related disease and you would like to hold the company that caused this dreadful illness responsible then go to => http://www.mesorc.com
Wendy Moyer on behalf of Sokolove Law.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Wendy_Moyer

http://EzineArticles.com/?The-Sumner-Simpson-Papers---Secret-Information-That-the-Asbestos-Industry-Didnt-Want-You-to-Know&id=5216492

Books

Lung Cancer: Myths, Facts, Choices--and Hope<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=thefasdig-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0393324982" alt="" style="border: medium none ! This is a story that concerning a friend who was diagnosed of the killer disease. His suggestion in the light of present happening is for victims or thier relatives to explore the Lawsuit option in other to reduce cost and loss.
Hoff Nielsen 45 is a former construction worker and a rare gentleman. He has won several medals in his former company for outstanding achievement and diligence. A happy man who will stop at nothing to ensure the contract construction work will not stop due to any problem! Sadly however Hoff's world has come crashing down as just a week ago was diagnosed as having Mesothelioma or asbestos cancer. This probably emanated from his exposure to asbestos while he worked in the construction firm. What this also means is that Hoff has become yet another of the many silent American victim and sufferer of the very dangerous disease called Mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a cancerous affliction that occurs as a result of continuous exposure to asbestos. While some of these are preventable at an early age, there are certain others that you might want to be wary of, since they can really cause you a lot of trouble. But, one disease that is extremely lethal while at the same time is not particularly preventable is Mesothelioma. There are many reasons as to why you might want to be aware of this disease. Once you understand more about why this particular disease is lethal, you will understand the problems faced by those diagnosed with this condition.
Latent State

One of the reasons that people are scare of Mesothelioma is the fact that it remains hidden to external diagnosis for as much as 30 years. Hence, the people who are diagnosed with this condition are the ones that ended up developing the condition over 30 years ago. Clearly, this is something that you would want to watch out for. Many of the patients that ended up with this condition did so because of their occupation in the past. The incubation period of this disease is one of the primary reasons as to why it is so feared upon.

No Known Cure

Unlike some of the other terminal diseases, there is absolutely no cure out there for Mesothelioma. Once a person is diagnosed with this condition, death is inevitable. Although the period of suffering may vary between individuals, the ultimate demise of the patient is essentially something that has been observed in common to the condition. Hence, this is something that can be quite scary to think about, since survival and recovery is completely ruled out. Cancer and AIDS patients have managed to recover under certain conditions, but Mesothelioma patients have usually had a painful death.

Intense Pain

Upon initial detection, patients tend to endure a lot of pain and the pain levels simply keep on increasing from that point. The associated symptoms with this condition are like none other. Besides pain, patients have also complained about numbness in certain areas and loss of use of certain parts of the body. Loss of ability to breath and other associated conditions are also quite common. Owing to the complexity of the condition, there have been multiple symptoms reported with this disease. This, in essence, is why this is considered to be such a dangerous disease. Consult a physician today to ensure that you don't have this condition.

Visit http://themesotheliomaonline.com for more useful information on Mesothelioma now.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Chutipawn_Mahapawnprajak

http://EzineArticles.com/?Why-People-Are-So-Scared-of-Mesothelioma&id=5291644

Books

Advances in Surgical Pathology: Lung Cancer

Letters from the Land of Cancer

Lung Cancer: Making Sense of Diagnosis, Treatment, and Options

Lung Cancer: Causes, Symptoms, Signs, Diagnosis, Treatments, Stages. In this article, we delve into the connection between asbestos and vermiculite.
Asbestos is a material that has been fleshed out in millions of pages of documentation. It is both a wonder material on the positive side and a killer on the negative. From the positive perspective, it is much sought after because it is extremely heat and fire resistant. This makes it a great material for products in areas where these issues are a concern. Examples would be ship engine compartments, oil refineries and even fire proof clothing.

Vermiculite is a naturally occurring material that is somewhat similar to asbestos in its properties. It appears in a mica type form and is heat and fire resistant. When exposed to heat, it tends to expand between eight and 20 times its original size. Given this, it has long been used in insulation in homes, but is also used as filler in gardens and the like.

The question that causes so much confusion is whether vermiculite is dangerous like asbestos. The answer is both yes and no. Sitting on its own, in its pure form, vermiculite is not dangerous. It does not have fibers like asbestos and has not been shown to cause Mesothelioma or any other cancer.

So, what is the big deal then? Well, here is where things get a bit strange. Most vermiculite that was mined from 1920 through 1990 came for the famous Libby mine. Why is the Libby mine famous? It is the poster child asbestos mine. It turns out the mine contains both asbestos and vermiculite veins. Mined together, investigations have found that the vermiculate became contaminated with asbestos. This means the vast majority of vermiculite used in the 50 year period the mine was tapped carried essentially the same dangers as asbestos.

The primary area of concern in most situations is vermiculite insulation in homes and buildings. If your property has it, you should get testing done. If there is asbestos in your vermiculite, you are living in an extremely risky place, need to get out and see a doctor as soon as possible.

Thomas Ajava writes about asbestos and vermiculite and other Mesothelioma issues for MesotheliomaAttorneyAssistance.com.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Thomas_Ajava

http://EzineArticles.com/?Does-The-Scourge-of-Asbestos-Extend-to-Vermiculite?&id=5162459

Books

How to Survive Lung Cancer - A Practical 12-Step Plan<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=thefasdig-20&l=as2&o=1&a=1435704711" alt="" style="border: medium none ! However, you would want to be particularly aware of the terminal ones, since those are the ones that you would want to stay away from. However, some diseases, like Mesothelioma, are quite dangerous and if you are one of the unlucky ones to have been diagnosed with this condition, you might be interested in knowing ways to take care of it. Although there is no known cure, you can still cope with this and have some other ways to deal with it rather than just being angry about it and living in denial.
Getting the Right Settlement

The first thing that you would probably want to do would be to get a good settlement for your condition. In most cases, people end up developing Mesothelioma because of their job hazards. Hence, you would ideally want to get a good settlement for this and not have to leave your loved ones penniless. Many companies that were responsible for this condition pay out millions of dollars in terms of settlement and hence, you too should hire a good attorney and get a decent settlement for your condition.

Enjoying your Time

The last thing that you would want to do after being diagnosed with the condition is to go in depression and isolate yourself. You have to learn to face the condition and know that this is not something to just shut yourself from. You should deal with it with the help of your close friends and family. After all, you wouldn't want your last few days to be sad and sullen, right? Hence, by taking these measures, you can ensure that people remember you for your cheery self and not the depressed person that you might become after the diagnosis.

Pain Management

One of the other things to look into would perhaps be the management of pain with this particular disease. You might have heard about how intense the pain can be with Mesothelioma. Hence, it is important to do your bit and take care of the pain without simply giving up on your condition. There have been people out there that have not been able to manage this, but you should know that there are options now to handle this pain and not make it as hard to cope with the condition. You shouldn't give up hope and continue to look forward to living the rest of the days without worrying about what might happen to you.

Learn more about Mesothelioma, visit http://themesotheliomaonline.com.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Chutipawn_Mahapawnprajak

http://EzineArticles.com/?Mesothelioma---Coping-Post-Diagnosis&id=5291611

Books

Lung Cancer: Myths, Facts, Choices--and Hope<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=thefasdig-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0393324982" alt="" style="border: medium none ! Here are the 3 cures that can potentially rid you of the disease and heal you. These therapies are widespread practices in the world and are being used extensively by medical doctors.
Chemotherapy

This treatment works to decrease your tumor size. A tumor is the one that causes the cancer at the first place. When the tumor is kept small, it can't spread to other parts of the body. Chemotherapy also relieves the pain you get from having the tumor. But the problem is, chemotherapy drugs can also damage your own healthy body cells together with the cancerous cells. So, people usually suffer a lot during the treatment process because of these side effects. But your doctor will usually select a suitable treatment and the degree of medication you receive.

Radiation

This treatment uses x-rays to eliminate the cancerous cells. There are 2 ways your doctor can perform this treatment. The first method is shooting the radiation waves from the outside of your body. Secondly, they shoot the rays inside of your body by using catheters or needles that are aimed at the cancer area directly. Whether your doctor uses the first or second method depends on the progress of the cancer. Radiation therapy aims to reduce as many cancer cells with minimal healthy cells being affected.

Surgery

In this last resort, your doctor will discuss with you first because he or she will remove a part of your lung or the entire organ.

Reviews patient medical history, including taking a history of asbestos exposure, followed by a complete physical examination, x-ray chest or abdomen and lung function tests. CT scan or MRI can also be done at this time. If one of the initial tests prove suspicious for mesothelioma, a biopsy is needed to confirm this diagnosis.
Imaging techniques and their Value in Diagnosing and Assessing Mesothelioma

There are several imaging techniques that may be useful when mesothelioma is suspected due to malignant pleural effusion combined with asbestos exposure or secondary employment history. While imaging techniques can be useful in assessing the likelihood of cancer, definitive diagnosis is still most often established through fluid diagnosis or tissue biopsy.

Some of the most frequently used imaging methods include:

X-ray

Chest X-ray can reveal pleural effusion (fluid build-ups) that limited both the right (% 60) or left (40%) lung. On that occasion, the mass can be seen. The signs of disease prior to non-cancerous asbestos, such as pleural plaques or pleural calcification, or scarring due to asbestosis may also be noted.

Computed Tomography (CT)

CT scans can also define pleural effusion, and pleural thickening, pleural calcification, thickening of interlobular crack, or possible chest wall invasion. CT, however, can not distinguish between changes associated with benign asbestos disease (pleural disease), or differentiate between adenocarcinoma of the lung that may have spread to the pleura mesothelioma verse. CT scans may also be valuable in guiding fine needle aspiration of pleural masses for tissue diagnosis.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI scans are most often used to determine the size of the tumor prior to aggressive treatment. Because they provide multiple images in the plane, they are better able to identify tumors as opposed to the normal structure. They are also more accurate than CT scans in assessing enlargement of mediastinal lymph nodes (lymph nodes are located between the two lungs), and the diaphragm surface is clear, both of which play an important role in surgical candidacy.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Alan_Jogja

http://EzineArticles.com/?How-Is-Mesothelioma-Diagnosed?&id=5269034

It is one of the 4 major cancer types.

Here are the risks you should be clear about so you can reduce your chances of getting it.

Smoking

Smoking is the primary cause of getting people infected with lung cancer. As many as 90 percent people who smoke will eventually get the cancer. Therefore, the more cigarettes you smoke, the higher your chances of getting it. This is because the cigarette contains 4,000 chemicals in which many of them have many substances that can cause cancer. These chemicals are called carcinogens. If you don't know about this already, you should, especially if you are a smoker. Once the carcinogens do their damage to your body, the damage can't be undone.

Inhaling Radon

It is a gas. But unlike other gases, you can't recognize it by its smell, sight or taste. Therefore it is hard to detect it. Besides smoking, Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. In the US alone, Radon gas causes 16,000 to 20,000 people to die annually. Where does this gas come from? Radon gas comes from the soil or through cracks found in your home. If you have not tested your home by calling the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), you better do it now. You will never know. It is like an invisible killer gas.

Chemicals at your workplace

This is especially true for people who work in the mine, fit pipes and build ships. This is because these work places most likely have asbestos. When you inhale asbestos, it can cause lung cancer. In detail, it causes you to inhale fibers and dust and getting them stuck onto your lungs. This will eventually lead to lung cancer. Your risk will drastically increase if you smoke at the same time while being exposed to asbestos.

Lung cancer is a dangerous disease. But do you know about the zero gravity chair or anti gravity chair? Oftentimes an accidental x-ray finds out the presence of cancer cells. The cancer advancing and the presence of tumor mostly cause the symptoms of lung cancer. Hormones involved and effects of cancer to other parts of the body can likewise make symptoms.

People should be informed about lung cancer symptoms and treatment for a better prognosis.

Primarily cough, hemoptysis (coughing up blood), chest pain and shortness of breath are the most common indicator of lung cancer.

General indicators for this kind of cancer are:

• A cough that does not go away

• A change in a cough you have had for a long time

• Being short of breath

• Coughing of sputum tinged with blood

• Pain when breathing or coughing

• Loss of appetite

• Fatigue

• Weight loss

Cancer cells produce hormones and deliver them in bloodstreams. Other signs of Lung cancer that may be hormone related are:

• Pins and needles or numbness in fingers or toes

• Muscle weakness

• Drowsiness, weakness, dizziness or confusion

• Breast swelling in men

• Blood clots

Treating cancer vary with different factors. These factors include the type of the cancer that you have, the location of the tumor, your general condition, the stage development of cancer.

Treatment for non-small cell lung carcinoma according to the stage are:

STAGE1: A lobectomy where you have to remove one lobe of your lungs is usually done with this stage of cancer. A radiotherapy follows the surgery.

STAGE2: With this stage of cancer, a lobectomy or pneumonectomy where your lungs is removed is usually an option. Doctor may suggest a chemotherapy afterwards. A radiotherapy is likewise advised if the patient do not want to go surgery.

STAGE3: Pneumonectomy is strongly recommended for this stage of lung cancer. Oncologists also recommend a radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

STAGE4: Chemotherapy is advised for patients at this stage. For instances that chemotherapy is not working, a biological therapy called erlotinib (Tarceva). The only aim of medication for this stage is the relief of the symptoms and lessens complication.

Many information about lung cancer symptoms and treatment can be found on the web. Lawson
Cancer or neoplasm is one of the most feared diseases of all time, afflicting people from different age brackets and races. In simple terms, cancer is an abnormal tissue growth and can either be benign or malignant. Malignant cancers are more dangerous as they tend to invade healthy tissues and convert them into cancerous ones; this is referred to as cancer metastasis. There are several factors that may trigger cancer cells to activate and mutate such as age, genetics, diet, and lifestyle. There are many types of cancer. The most common ones are prostate cancer as for the males, and breast cancer for the females. Lung and colon cancers are also common. On the other hand, there are also rare cancers, and one of these is the benign multicystic mesothelioma or asbestos cancer mesothelioma.
Asbestos cancer mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer in the mesothelium. The mesothelium is a protective tissue layer that protects abdominal internal organs as well as the heart and lungs from rubbing off to other tissues or organs in the body. The only known main cause of this type of cancer is asbestos exposure. Asbestos is a harmful substance. If asbestos fibers are either inhaled or ingested, these can cause inflammation of the internal organs and therefore cause some alterations or mutations. This mutation is where the cancer begins. Workers working in shipyards, power plants, refineries, steel factories, and construction sites are the ones usually exposed to asbestos and are at high-risk for developing this type of cancer.

The early signs and symptoms of asbestos cancer mesothelioma are the following: shortness of breath, chest pain, persistent coughing, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, and night sweats or fever. However, these are the same signs and symptoms found in all other cancers, that's why diagnosis of using CT Scan, MRI, X-rays, and biopsy should be done to determine if it is this type of cancer. The treatment for asbestos cancer mesothelioma can either be through chemotherapy, radiation or surgery. Nevertheless, medical experts are testing newer treatments such as gene therapy and immunotherapy, but these techniques are not yet approved for use.

For much more information, click on the following links:

Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma <== Click Here

Asbestos Mesothelioma Lawsuit <== Click Here

or visit LookMesothelioma.com.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Mel_T._Lawson

http://EzineArticles.com/?Asbestos-Cancer-Mesothelioma---What-You-Should-Know&id=5252878

Like many cancers, early detection is the key to survival and a better quality of life for patients. Now, a group of Japanese researchers pave the way for laboratory tests can help doctors identify the disease - and begin aggressive treatment - previously.
Writing in the journal, Modern Pathology, the researchers explain how a protein called CD146 can serve as a biomarker for mesothelioma. protein has been shown to be present in patients with advanced malignant melanoma, prostate cancer and ovarian cancer. Now, for the first time, researchers also identified the presence in the lung fluid of mesothelioma patients.

The research team tested the lung fluid of 51 patients, 23 had malignant mesothelioma and 28 had benign lung condition called reactive mesothelium. Although the patients experienced the same symptoms and all had fluid build-up, only patients with malignant mesothelioma presence of CD146 positive. The researchers reported that the protein was undetectable in all cases of reactive mesothelium. They can use CD146 to identify and confirm 90 percent of patients with malignant mesothelioma.

Caused exclusively by exposure to asbestos, mesothelioma is very difficult to diagnose. Its symptoms, which can include shortness of breath and cough, can mimic other diseases and even CT scans are often not definitive. As a result, some cases of mesothelioma are not identified until the disease is in advanced stage and treatment options are limited. Japanese researchers wrote "We propose that CD146 is a sensitive and specific immunocytochemical marker allowing differential diagnosis of malignant pleural mesothelioma from reactive mesothelium."

According to the World Health Organization Read More

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Alan_Jogja

http://EzineArticles.com/?Test-May-Detect-Mesothelioma&id=5241311

Shortness of breath, cough, and pain in the chest due to the accumulation of fluid in the pleural space (pleural effusion) often have symptoms of mesothelioma in the chest cavity.
Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and cachexia, abdominal swelling and pain due to ascites (accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity). Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction, blood clotting disorders, anemia, and fever. If the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, difficulty swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.

Mesothelioma that affects the pleura can cause these signs and symptoms:

* Chest Wall Pain

* Pleura effusion, or fluid surrounding the lung

* Shortness of breath

* Fatigue or anemia

* Wheezing, hoarseness, or cough

* Blood in the sputum (fluid), cough (hemoptysis)

In severe cases, the person may have many tumor masses. Individuals may develop a pneumothorax, or collapse of the lung. This disease can spread, or spread, to other parts of the body.

Tumors that affect the abdominal cavity often do not cause symptoms until they are at the final stage. Symptoms include:

* Abdominal pain

* Ascites, or abnormal accumulation of fluid in the abdomen

* Mass in abdomen

* Problems with intestinal function

* Weight loss

In severe cases of disease, the following signs and symptoms may be present:

* Blood clots in the veins, which may cause thrombophlebitis

* The spread intravascular coagulation, a disorder causing severe bleeding in many body organs

* Yellowing of the eyes and skin, or jaundice

* Low blood sugar levels

* Pleura effusion

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Alan_Jogja

http://EzineArticles.com/?Mesothelioma-Symptoms-And-Sign&id=5239254

What It Means For You And Possible Treatments

By George S. Hughes
If you have been diagnosed with asbestos cancer, or by its clinical term, mesothelioma, it means you have a form of cancer that damages the mesothelium which is a membrane that encases our lungs, chest, abdomen and heart. The heart is protected by mesothelial tissue that surrounds it and is dubbed the pericardium. The lungs and chest cavity is covered by the pleural mesothlium membrane, and the peritoneum is what covers the abdominal cavity using mesothelial tissue. Asbestos damages every one of these membranous cells, however the most typical is pleural mesothelioma, usually in the advanced stages of this disease the cancer spreads and attacks other areas of the body.
The main reason behind people contracting asbestos cancer or mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos, but it can be brought on by other things, such as exposure to zeolite, which is a chemical also found in asbestos. The worrying thing is how prevalent asbestos is in many materials that around us every day, including cement, roof shingles, flooring, textiles, brake linings and insulation. The asbestos inserts itself via our respiratory system and settles within, making carcinogenic tumors. Individuals in the construction industry need to be especially careful about fighting asbestos, asbestos mine workers, workers at shipyards and mills are the most susceptible to asbestos cancer, thanks to continual exposure to it. It might take as long as 50 years for symptoms to display themselves, but unfortunately once mesothelioma is located the common person will have 1 - 2 years left to live, this is why early detection is important for any hope of treatment.

There are rules established by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) as to the legal amounts of asbestos that can be allowed in the workplace. Anybody who deals with the substance is forced to adhere to strict guidelines and wear protective equipment. Asbestos carried home on clothing has also been shown to affect family members of workers, therefore showers and a change out of protective clothing is demanded before workers can leave the workplace.

Successful treatments of mesothelioma differ greatly depending on many factors, the patient, when it is diagnosed, where it is located and the health of the patient. Quite a few patients will undergo surgery, and then chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Surgery will excise tumors but the normal health of the patient decides how effective this will be. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are both efficient strategies to fight the symptoms, however he side effects from these treatments can cause issues themselves. Anybody who thinks they might have been exposed to asbestos for a long period of time should go in for regular check ups and look out for symptoms that could demonstrate the surfacing of mesothelioma, because remember if you catch the disease early your chances of survival increase dramatically.

To learn more about possible treatments for asbestos cancer or mesothelioma go to the mesothelioma treatment options blog and website.
Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=George_S._Hughes

http://EzineArticles.com/?Do-You-Have-Asbestos-Cancer-Or-Mesothelioma?-What-It-Means-For-You-And-Possible-Treatments&id=5029371
