Last summer I discovered EDM (Electronic Dance Music). A lover of music in general, I was always up for discovering new talent and listening to new things; so this seemed like nothing out of the ordinary.
That is until I noticed it wasn't just about the beats & lack of lyrics, it was the way the sound radiated through my body, it was about the feeling.

We all seek a sense of belonging. As kids we want to be "cool". We want to be "popular". And at the very least we want to "fit in." Thing is, sometimes, there just isn't a "defined space" for everyone.
I was one of those people.

Highschool was far from any of those tween movies for me, and being trapped in a relationship for the majority of my 20s, I never felt a sense of who I was. I wasn't ever something for me, I was always the something for someone else.
Woe is me - far from it. Realizing this in recent years has been the best thing that's happened to me. If it wasn't for those experiences, I wouldn't have been able to feel true happiness, the way I do now. Without comparison I would have nothing to, well compare to. And let me tell you - I am 100% the happiest I have ever been.

So how does this fit into EDM.
Well... you see, the EDM community is different than anything else I have ever experienced. I've been to pop concerts, rock shows & music festivals before. Everyone comes together to see a common act; but they keep their individuality inside.

EDM is much more than a style of music. It is a community. And when us "ravers" go to shows we bring our creativity and share our uniqueness. We wear bright colors and costumes. We are encouraged to be ourselves. We have found a place, where we BELONG.

We come together for the music, and are united by the passion for our community.

We make and exchange Kandi - bracelets symbolizing the mantra of PLUR, that we live everyday.
Peace, Love, Unity, Respect.
We live this in our daily lives, when we're at our jobs, when we're out for fun & especially when we are united at shows.

So while people may think we dress up in crazy outfits, take drugs & flail around while someone stands on stage and presses buttons - in fact we represent a connection that runs deeper than any bassline being dropped on stage.

EDM is not for everyone. Nothing is.

But for me, this past year has been an awakening experience. I've found myself, I've acknowledged my uniqueness, I've been to a show every month including 3 major festivals, I've met like-minded people from all around the world and I've enjoyed every moment of it.

Looking ahead I see only more adventures. More beats, more tracks, more shows, more costumes, more colors, more chance encounters, more friends and most importantly more continued HAPPINESS

TRAP - MYLES AWAY - TO DIE IN OUTER SPACE

Myles Away takes on Trap. Myles Away does well. Instead of creepy dub sound hes trades them in for high hats and trappy bass but still kills it with his well crafted production that can complicated at times but is usually perfectly minimal. Really likin' this tune.
