Creation: The Forest Of Sparkle

Hey Beauties,

I hope you have all had a wonderful August! I made my return from beautiful San Diego a few weeks ago and have been thrown back into the busy, yet exciting and fun lifestyle of Vienna. The heat in Vienna has been truly immense this week being between 32-38 degrees every single day!!! So in attempt to keep myself out of the sun for at least one of the days I came up with this creation, which for some odd reason wanted to name The Forest Of Sparkle - I think it had a lot to do with the green (being the trees) and the purples (being the vibrant flowers) used for the looks. Review: IQ Cosmetics Brilliance Gloss

Hey Beauties!

Ok, so I know I trashed their Metallic Green nail polish in my last review - but their lip glosses may have just put IQ Cosmetics back into my good books! After receiving some 20% off vouchers for their Brilliance Gloss range, I figured that at €4 a gloss (€4.99 rrp), nothing could be as bad as my experience with their polish, not to mention that all the shades of the glosses in this range had caught my eye.

From a glance all the shades (9 in total) look extremely wearable and would suit any skin tone. The packaging, I find is compact yet stylish, and for the price doesn't look tacky at all - I don't know maybe you may feel differently about that! I ended up purchasing 4 shades; Candy, Amour, Rose and Kisses.

The first thing I noticed about the lip glosses was the consistency of them. I tend to find that inexpensive drugstore Lip Glosses are quite runny, wear off easily, therefore needing more applications throughout the day. These glosses however, are almost like a sheer lipstick, with the consistency being thick yet easy to apply. Even though the colours looks bold in the tube they actually apply really sheer on first application. The colours can be worked on and deepened with further applications but won't reach the same vibrancy as the colour you see from the packaging. The texture is smooth, not grainy, and doesn't leave too much of a sticky feeling though there is a little of that! The glosses do have a slight chocolaty/sweet smell to them but no taste. The smell isn't over empowering and definitely is not strong enough to put you off the product if you don't like scented glosses.

Result: I think for the price (€4.99 Per Gloss) and the quality of the product it's definitely a must try product. The shades are extremely wearable for everyday yet can jazz up any night time look.

Review: IQ Cosmetics Nail Effect

Hi Beauties,
Once again I must apologies for my absence! After returning from my cousins wedding in May I was thrown back (or I chose to be thrown back!) into working 4 different jobs and time flew by before I realised that I hadn't blogged in ages!

Which brings me to my first post in a while - and I must warn this is a bit of a rant post due to the quality of the product being rubbish! So I apologise in advance about the moan but very rarely do I ever blog negatively about a product and I guess the time has come. IQ Cosmetics Nail Effect in Metallic Green (€4.99) really caught my eye when I was on the hunt for some fresh Summer polishes. I loved the tone of green and the metallic sheen contained in the bottle.

Well first off the application was a little goopy and left a streaky finish despite having applied a base coat. However I hadn't pressed the panic button at that point as it was only the first coat but the streaky finish was even more apparent after the second coat! I decided the polish had to come off - except I had run out of nail polish remover and all the shops were shut! So the next morning I was straight out to top up on my remover's and when I finally did remove the hot streaky mess see what I discovered below!

To be put it plainly - I have never been so angry with a nail polish in my life! To apply so terribly and then have the cheek to stain my nails yellow! I am also partly angry because I was so in love with the colour but there is no way I'm even going to consider putting that polish on my nails again. Only now, three weeks after this mishap, have the yellow stains begun to grow out. Definitely a look I will be happy to avoid! The only plus to this situation is that I did purchase the Metallic Orange polish and had no problem with it whatsoever!

Creation: Block Colour

Hey Beauties!

How are you all? I hope you are all good and are having a good May so far. Since the fashion world has been going a little block colour colour crazy, I thought I would create a look inspired by the trend. Obviously not a look I would rock on a normal day but for sure at a party! (especially if it has a 70's/80's theme to it!).

I will also not be posting for about a week as I am off to Ireland for my cousins wedding and I want the trip to be completely free from work! I hope you understand. So I am going to wish you all a pleasant remainder of the weekend and a beautiful Next week! Joanna Louise x x x

I Need An Occasion To Wear This Soon!!!

So I horrified myself today when I went to put on a pair of shoes on the way out to work - only to find that at least 7 pairs of my shoes (which basically means all of them!) were garbage material! To be honest I am not a big shoe person so forgive me for not noticing the fact that my shoe collection was crying to be revamped! So I went on a little manic shopping spree and along the way in H&M I came across this jumpsuit that looks so crazy I had to get it! Now I need an occasion to to wear the damn thing! I would wear it out on a normal day but I would like to debut the outfit at a fun event. Well I am heading to Ireland on Thursday for my cousin's wedding and whilst I will not be wearing it there - I'm sure with my crazy family there will be plenty of events to wear this outfit too!

Review: Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask

Bliss' Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask offers an instant fix for dull, tired skin in just 5 minutes! Who doesn't have 5 minutes to spare to help give their face a little pick me up? This product squirts out in a serum like texture but once applied onto damp skin, transforms into a foamy texture. Over the next five minutes, watch as the bubbles disappear (supposedly the dehydrated area's of your face pulling in the oxygen), and once the time is up, rinse the product off and voila you're done. So how do I rate this product?

Pros:

I find this product almost the perfect thing to wake up to or to use when my skin is feeling a bit under the weather. The citrus smell is so wonderful it instantly perks me up and once the mask is in action the tingling sensation it gives my skin is amazing. It’s as if you can feel your face pulling the mask in. Plus it gives me five whole minutes of fun watching time, as I stare at myself in the mirror watching patches of the mask disappear faster than other areas depending on which area needs the hydration most. After washing the product off my skin really does glow and instantly looks refreshed, clean and hydrated and feels soft to the touch.

Cons:

Apart from hydrating my face and making it appear healthy it doesn’t have any other benefits like tackling my enormous pores (even though it does claim to help in that area!) or help to exfoliate my skin. It's also £39 for a 100ml, which is definitely a bit to pricey for such a mask.

Results:

The mask is good but not great and I think for the price I find this more of a novelty product rather than one that will help to improve my skin over time. Therefore I wouldn't repurchase this product.

I hope you all had a beautiful week full of highlights. Did any of you catch the Royal Wedding? To be honest I wasn't bothered at all about it although I don't deny the importance of it! Maybe if I was back home in London the atmosphere, which I can only imagine to electric, may have hyped me up. Hey Beauties,

Recently I have been getting a lot of comments asking me how I achieved my hair style and my answer is simple - Not a Damn Clue!

In fact my hairstyle today surprises me more than anything. For one I said I would NEVER go blonde - not ash blonde, golden blonde, honey blonde, caramel blonde - No Blonde. And it wasn't that I had a thing against blondes! It's just that when I looked at the colour of my eyebrows (a really dark brown) I just couldn't picture it! Ok and I did March in the Proud to Brunette parade quite a few times! I also said I would never get bangs - Ever! - The last time I had bangs was when I was three! So as you can imagine I am a little surprised with what I have ended up with - I am also the happiest I have been in a long long time with my hair. I feel different and more like me (I can't really put into words how different this hairstyle makes me feel!).

So I guess I should start with the inspiration! Basically I have a huge fat Lesbian crush on Rachel Stevens - the woman is so near to perfection in my eyes she could wear a potato sack and I would think it was the coolest outfit ever! I am even more in love with her hair! Especially the following hairstyles:

I absolutely craved for this hairstyle for a whole year! My problem was that I was too scared to take the plunge. I would venture to the hairdresser's and at last minute back out of the blonde and opt for a red/brown shade - Bangs? - Oh no thank you! Just a trim. So the following pictures will be my hair journey from January 2010 right until the present date! Enjoy! Oh and I apologise for some of them in advance! I have my cousins wedding coming up on May 13th and I need to get my hair re-done but now I am at a cross roads!!! I'm not quite sure whether to re-trim the bangs and keep them or grow them out. Creation: Fly...Like a Butterfly (re-post!)

Hey Beauties! I hope all is well. I was going through some of my really old posts on my blog yesterday and came across some posts that I thought would be worth re-posting now that I have more followers than I did back a year and a half ago. I thought it would be great to re-post every now and then posts that my new followers may not have seen because they haven't back tracked my whole blog (which I don't blame you!!! Rarely do I follow a new blog and go back to their day one! Which I really want to try and do now because I feel like I may be missing out on some really great posts!). Anyways I hope you guys don't mind me doing this and more importantly I hope you enjoy!!! x x x

I've had a bit of a down week, this week, so I decided to turn my emotions into a creation and came up with a look inspired by butterflies. I've always had a thing for butterflies. I can't really explain why but I just love the beauty of them and the way they look so elegant whilst fluttering around. I also see them as a sign of a happier season for me; Spring (not that I don't like winter but after a while a bit of warmth and sunshine is much appreciated!).

Sometimes when I'm feeling down I really wish that I was able to fly, take off, and remove myself from situations or places that cause sadness. I know that would not solve the sorrow in the long-run but for the short-term it would be a weight off my mind.

So I have decided to name this look 'Fly...Like A Butterfly'. Below are a few pictures of my creation. The lips were my favourite part! Using Maybelline's Colour Sensational in 330 - Chic Plum, I applied the colour to my lips. Then using the Coastal Scents Ultra Shimmer Palette I took a light gold shade and lightly dusted it over my lips. The results, a red/plum colour with hints of a gold shimmer. This is also a fantastic way to help keep your lipstick in place!

I also decided to add a slight sparkle to my eyebrows, so I coloured in my brows with Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide on Eye-Pencil's in Bourbon and then dusted over my brows with a Metallic Broze shade from the same Coastal Scents Palette.

Review: Yves Rocher Loose Powder Foundation

Hey Beauties, I hope you have all had a beautiful week because I know I did!!!!! I have a review for you today. I have tried and tested the Yves Rocher 100% Natural Origin Loose Powder Foundation for two weeks now and below are my thoughts on the product!

What Yves Rocher Says:

For women who long for a smooth, unified, ultra-bright, complexion. This loose powder foundation, literally melts into the skin, cares for it and lets it breathe. Comfortable, ultra-soft upon application, respects all skin types, even the most sensitive.Very easy to use, the texture is both light and offers perfect coverage while letting skin breathe. The complexion is unified, smoothed and illuminated by a spectacular light all with infinite comfort.

What I Say:

Let me start off this review by saying that if you do not like the dewy, satin finish on your skin (see swatch on hand and after picture) then this definitely is NOT the product for you. This is a 'Get Your Glow On' type of foundation, which I personally like but I know some of may not. I use a Kabuki Brush in circular motions to apply the powder and for my under eye area I use a small powder brush to give more coverage. Now I have had my fair share of powder foundations and have never quite been a fan of them as I found they highlighted dry areas of skin. However this product I find really does blend into skin, and does not leave you with the 'Caked On' effect nor does it dry out the skin. In fact I find this foundation really keeps my skin hydrated and feels really light and natural and this may very well be due to the fact that it contains Almond Oils, which is known for it's smoothing and heeling properties.
This product definitely gives a more natural finish on its own but when applied over a liquid foundation that had a more medium to full coverage, skin looks flawless. Either way this product will leave skin with a noticeable satin finish. I also find that with this product my skin looks so smooth and even and has a touch of the Sun Kissed look.
I am super impressed with the lasting powder of this Loose Powder Foundation - even running, and playing soccer from 9-4pm in 25 degrees couldn't completely fade this product - Yes I admit I didn't look as fresh as I had when I first applied the product but then would anyones makeup look as fresh after 7 hours of moderate activity?

So would I repurchase this product again? I Definitely would - for €23.00 (although I paid €14.95 in store)/$29.00/£23.00 this has been by far the best powder foundation I have ever tried. It feels really comfortable on the skin and once applied makes my skin look fresh and healthy. It hasn't caused me any breakout issues and it is so easy to use. NOTD: Absolutely Shattered!

Ok so I know almost everyone has been on these shatter Nail Polishes and I for one can understand why. Not being into nail art so much - mainly because I am absolutely useless at it - I find this such an easy way to Jazz up nails in a fun and Interesting way! I mean who says watching paint dry is boring???? To make it even more interesting I decided to paint each nail a different base colour - each being really vibrant so that the black really does stand out from the crowd.

I find the Isa Dora Graffiti Polish easy to use and works really well. Applying a thin layer of the Polish will give you finer cracks which are less noticeable but this can work nicely with a great base colour, giving the appearance of fine lines of colour across your nail. A thicker coat will give you more noticeable cracks (like the picture above). The polish dries within 30 seconds and I apply a top coat to finish off the look.

A Month Until the Big Day!

Ok well a month until my cousin Sabrina's big day, who is getting married on May 13th. However I'm acting like it's my big day as this month I really want to step up my Health and Fitness big time! I'm usually quite good when it comes to exercise (doing an hour of dance every night and 30 mins of either Pilates or aerobics first thing in the morning) - however I have been letting my exercise slip by me over the past couple of weeks and let me tell you I can already tell the difference! I have also been eating Junk Food like crazy over the past few weeks and it is taking it's toll on my skin! So Here comes mission:

Get Ready For The Big Day Like It Is Your Big Day

Aims:

Ditch the Junk! And as of this morning I have cleared out the junk from my refrigerator and cupboards - Be gone Devil Foods! Ok well now I actually have nothing left in Fridge - Food Shop Time!
I would like to lose 5 pounds, which I think in a month is achievable.
Get back on my exercise doing four 30 minutes morning segments each week and an hour segment of dance three times a week - dancing is a huge passion of mine so this is no bother for me!
Get into a solid routine for Skin and Body. I never remember to moisturise my body! Shame on me and my snake skin legs!

I think The aims are reasonable and achievable. However I don't doubt it will be hard work - especially the junk food one! I will keep you guys posted weekly but here is my first fitness review!

Pilates Weight Loss Workout For Dummies:

The workout is easy to follow with clear and easy to follow explanations and exercises.
The workout is split into two sections - Standing Pilates (20 mins) and mat work pilates (20 Mins) - This means no excuses! If you don't have the full 40 Minutes to spare you at least have 20 so pick a section and get moving! The first 20 Minutes is a great way to get your heart-rate up and seriously bust a sweat, whilst toning all areas of the body and the second 20 Mintues is a more calmer work out, though still challenging none the less, concentrating on moves to define and tone especially the abs and waistline.
I find this DVD a great one to do first thing in the morning - I feel so much more awake and energised after the workout and you can really start to feel and notice the benefits after 2 weeks of regular use. Sometimes I do the first section in the morning and second section at some point later in my day or change it around but either way it keeps the workout more interesting.

OOTD and NOTD

Hey Beauties,

I hope you have all had a great week - I am personally looking forward to the weekend big time, even though my week has been pretty chilled. Here is my second OOTD. Even though today is not as Spring Like as it had been over the past week that has not put me off! Especially when I have 2 birthday parties to attend!

I also decided to get my nails all dressed up for Spring! As a base colour I used Essie's Polish in Sundancer. In general I find Essie Nail Polishes a little difficult to work with. The texture goes on a bit goopey and uneven - but I'm not going to lie - I have so many of these tiny bottle because at €1.35 each it's worth putting up with a little nightmare with the application!

Hair Care: Lavera Rose Milk Repairing Care Treatment

Recommended for conditioning treatment to repair dry hair

Lavera's Rose Milk Repair Hair Treatment for stressed and dry hair is a cream conditioner with intensively nourishing rose milk, macadamia and avocado oil, as well as keratin and panthenol, which build up and strengthen the hair.

Organic Jojoba oil and rose blossom hydrolates moisturise dry hair.

Lavera's organic and natural haircare is free from sodium lauryl sulphate (sls) and petrochemicals such as propylene glycol.

What I Say:

This hair treatment is to be used only once a week in place of your normal conditioner. I apply quite a generous amount concentrating most of the product on my tips (as that is where my hair is most damaged). Leave the product on for 5-10 minutes (I clip my hair up and usually leave it on for the full 10 minutes). Once rinsed off you will notice when brushing your hair that there are ZERO tangles in your hair! This for me is a miracle as I am usually battling the brush our of my hair.
The product has a Citrus/Rose scent to it, which lingers for about a day. I actually really like the smell, as I find it quite refreshing, which surprised me big time as I really can't stand the smell of Rose in cosmetic products. I'm not going to lie, I was caught out a few times by my friends for sniffing my own hair! - Oh Dear.
Now I have to warn you, a slight downfall about this product is that it will leave your hair feeling and looking ever so slightly greasy the next day as it works to keep your hair hydrated whilst repairing the split ends. This is definitely not a product to use if you have healthy hair - I should think it would look even greasier on such a type. However this factor does not bother me - I just curl or tie back my hair for a couple of days. I think the benefits (Healthier hair - less split ends) are worth the slight change in hairstyles. It's not bad at all but I should let you none the less. The slight greasiness is personally noticeable - whether it is visible to others I do not know, I had no one tell me my hair looked Greasy!
The benefits of the product are noticeable from the first use. Not only did my hair feel smoother but it looked healthier - The split ends were definitely less prominent - and with continued use the overall condition of my hair has definitely improved. The tips of my hair still feel really smooth even when I use my regular conditions, which certainly wasn't the case before I started using this product.

I would definitely repurchase this product if when I finish the tube I feel my hair still needs the product. At £8.45/€8.90 for a 125ml tube This product will last a long time and does a fantastic job at an inexpensive price! Visit the website for more products from Lavera by clicking HERE.

Review: Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara

My YSL False Lash Mascara finally ran out on me, and seeing as I was picking up an Estee Lauder Mascara for my Back To Blogging Giveaway winner I saw this as a perfect opportunity for me to pick up a different mascara for myself as well.

What Estee Lauder Say:

Lashes seem to multiply, magnify, grow to extremes.   Three different high-volume fibers create audacious, false-lash effects. Eyes look brighter, wider, more seductive. Outrageous volume, lift and curves for an audacious, false-lash effect.

What I Say:

I shall start off with the packaging. As with all Estee Lauder products, the Mascara has a look of class and expensiveness (though it should since it is!) about it. It is definitely a product you wouldn’t mind whipping out in public for all others to see.
The wand is a perfect length for application and the brush is thick and round, compiled with two different types of bristles (flexible to maximize the formula and solid to keep your lashes clump free), being more narrow at the tip, for those inner lashes, and thickening towards the base, for the outer lashes. I like the concept of the brush, however I do find it slightly too big for my eyes.
One coat is enough to give your eyes the ‘Your lashes just slightly longer’ effect but this is definitely a buildable product. Adding additional coats will give you the appearance of fuller, thicker lashes as well as adding more length. It leaves your lashes flexible and clump-free and I have experienced

For me there is just something missing from this mascara. I don’t quite know what it is – maybe there’s not enough volume and length to it for my lashes. It is a good mascara – but for me the wow factor is missing and I find the oversized brush more of an inconvenience for me than a benefit. Therefore this is a product I will not be repurchasing, however I do generally love Estee Lauder products, so I would be up for trying out a different type of mascara from their range.

Super Sunday: No Show?!

Hey Beauties,
I think I may say this every week but really - Where did this week go? I mean really! Where? On Friday I found myself absolutely gobsmacked it was Friday! So this week ended on a bittersweet ending. Last night I went out with a few of the lads and one of our Friends had his first football match for a team we have been supporting here in Vienna for a while. Seeing as it was his first match, we of course were so thrilled and excited to go down and support him - get the pompoms out an all! Today was not the best of days weather wise in Vienna but we trekked down to watch the match only to arrive and find out that our Friend had not arrived and no one could get in contact with him. The effects of this was a late kick off, a team of annoyed players, and annoyed friends! Now maybe you may think we should be worried, but the fact that this happens often with him (lost phone, got lost, felt sick, clocks went forward?) made it one of those 'Typical Him' moments. Anyway I guess I'm still annoyed about the whole situation. We went down to support a friend in his first ever league match for a well known team in Vienna and he didn't turn up! Typical!

Reading: The Various Haunts of Men by Susan Hill. So I finished reading I Heart New York by Lindsey Kelk and can I just say that if you are in to Chick Lits This is a MUST buy! So now I am back into my thrillers and I can already tell that this is going to be a book that I am going to have to push myself to read but once I get further into the story it will have been worth it. The first 70 pages haven't totally convinced me even though there have been a few gripping pages but I do like Susan Hill so I have complete faith I will be convinced soon enough!

Listening: Bobby Valentino - Words. Such a beautiful chilled song. I'm not a huge fan of his but he does have some really good tunes! Check it out!

Watching: I am so Annoyed! The Wonderland video by Natalia Kills was meant to premier on Friday night - I had psyched myself up for it and was prepared to wait for as long as it took to air only to find out it had been postponed! I can't wait any longer! The trailer is not long enough!!!!

Review: Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeiner

Since my whole Brown is the New Black phase kicked off about a month ago I have been wanting to get my hands on this gel eyeliner. I had read so many good reviews about the product but since Vienna seems to be about 2 months behind the rest of the world when it comes to makeup I had to wait a while to get my mittens on this - but was it worth the wait?

The package comes with not only the gel liner but a round tip liner brush, which I have to say I am very happy with! The Liner brush, I think, is of a high quality and gives accuracy and precision when applying the liner and because of the texture and shape of the brush it makes for an easy application - Another fantastic brush to add to my brush collection, which can be used with many different products! That definitely counts for brownie points!
With the brush it is easy to create a thin line to give the eyes a more natural looks and the appearance of fuller lashes. However you can of course take it up a notch and go for a more dramatic look with a thicker line. I find that the gel works well on the waterline too - so you can double it up as a waterline eyeliner.
The gel is easy to use. It has a creamy texture that goes on smooth and the colour comes out bold and intense. As for the staying power? The liner stayed in place from 9am to 8pm at night - and that was only because I had to take it off at some point! There was zero smudge or fade with the line I had applied to my upper lash line and only a slight fade where I had applied the liner to my bottom waterline.

I would definitely say this product is up to the same standards as Mac - and dare I say I like it slightly more as not only do I find the product great value but it also includes a brush. This product joins my line of Maybe It's Maybelline hits along side their colour sensational lipsticks!
