Do you co-sleep? My son usually sleeps in his crib with the exception of days where he's not feeling so well.

The other day my husband was putting baby J to sleep and well...lets just say lesson #18 became very apparent.

I think even if you don't usually have your child sleep in your bed, every parent goes through this at some point. :)

For busy moms who need a break and some quality "me" time, yoga continues to be the activity of
choice. Both the physical workout and the focus on relaxation and inner peace are necessary for good
health and serenity. Who couldn't use an hour of uninterrupted alone time in the middle of a crazy day?
When that hour of alone time can help you better navigate the rest of the chaos, it's even better.

What are the benefits of yoga for moms?

Aside from the hour of peace and quiet, yoga is an excellent activity for moms for a variety of reasons:
-- The toning and flexibility training of yoga will help you not just fit into your pre-pregnancy jeans, but
maybe even a smaller size.
-- The focus on breathing will give you tools to help you survive any crisis.
-- Learning a skill like yoga will give you a powerful boost to your self-esteem.
-- Numerous yoga poses help to stimulate your immune system, making it easier for you to fight off all
the germs your kids bring home from school or daycare.
-- Yoga can help manage a number of conditions that can sap your energy, including headaches, chronic
fatigue, stress and depression.

Yoga isn't just great for moms; it is also an activity in which the kids can participate. Kids of any age
can begin learning simple yoga poses. Many studios have prenatal and baby yoga classes available. Not
only can it strengthen the bond between mother and child, it has also shown to strengthen newborns
muscles and promote good posture. Not to mention, the gentle movements and soothing music provide
calm and comfort for the infants, while it teaches self control for older children. Introducing kids to
enjoyable exercise at an early age helps build good habits for the rest of their lives.

Yoga teaches breathing techniques that are useful for kids who are easily frustrated and can teach them
to calm their minds when things get rough. Not only will it help keep kids healthy and allow them to
retain the flexibility of they had when younger, research has also shown that yoga benefits kids with a
number of different conditions, including ADHD and autism spectrum disorders by relaxing and quieting
their mind, improving their focus, and decreasing their impulsivity. Yoga can also assist with patients
diagnosed with terminal diseases, such as papillary mesothelioma and is a widely suggest practice by the
American Cancer Society. Besides asking friends if they’ve done yoga before and where they went, many
DVDs and online tutorials are available for mothers who may not have the time for the studio or want
the comfort of home. Also, using a studio finder is a perfect way to find a studio and information.

Girl-cation

Even busy moms need a get away sometimes! Mine was this weekend @ South Beach. It was great to relax and recharge my battery. It's too easy to forget to take good care of yourself when you devote your life to taking care of someone else.

Part of that means knowing when your over stressed and when to take some "me" time. My version of that was in the form of a girl-cation, a trip with a few of the girls, no kids, no husbands. It was WONDERFUL. I feel great, but miss Baby J. He's at home with daddy so I know he's having fun :) Even though this trip was only for a weekend, it was a much needed getaway. No work, no stress. Additionally, I took an extra day off so I could take Jordan out when I get back!

I know as moms we lead busy lives. Whether you're a SAHM, or work a full time job...whether ingle parent and doing it all, or splitting responsibilities with a spouse...we need to remember to take time for ourselves. Take a moment to relax, reflect, and recharge. Then we can go back to being the supermoms we are meant to be :)

Bringing in the New Year: Resolution Challenge

If I could sum up 2011 in one word, I would probably say it was a year of growth. There were some absolutely wonderful moments as I watched my little baby grow into and active, smart, adorable toddler. There were also some crazy moments as I struggled to find balance between work and parenthood. The experiences of 2011 have taught me how to be patient, when to ask for help, and they've given me a new found appreciation for self-reflection. I realized that most of what I've learned this year has come from Jordan. It's amazing how someone so young can teach you so much! This year and beyond, I plan to enjoy every learning experience he teaches me, since we both still have a lot to learn. For 2012, I made my resolutions (yes, I'm a resolution maker) focus not just on growth (for that's an ongoing process), but also on health. Here we're my top 3: 1. Do not eat Taco Bell 2. Drink more water 3. Stress less Well each of these are a bit more well defined, but you get the gist :) What new years resolution did you make? If you're interested in sharing, post it here! Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a Happy and safe Thanksgiving! We had a good time celebrating with family and friends at our house this year. This was the first year that Baby J and our dog Nala watched the Macy's parade and the dog show.

This was also the first year J got to feed himself table food on Thanksgiving. He loved the mashed potatoes and turkey, but not the sweet potatoes.

There is no doubt that the food was a big delicious part of Thanksgiving for our family, but my favorite part was being surrounded by our family and friends and showing thanks.

On that same note, I'd like to express how truly thankful I am to have met so many wonderful moms through blogs, groups, and networks this year. It's been great reading all of your posts and your comments on my blog.

Motherhood has been a beautiful and marvelous adventure thus far, and every moms experiences are unique and wonderful. It's great to hear from you so please keep posting and commenting! Off to enjoy the rest of my weekend with the fam, best wishes!

I occasionally write reviews about iPhone apps, and I feel that it is important to acknowledge the life of the man who revolutionized how we use our mobile phones.
