Knight Kris (Bayu Sekti)

Sebelum berubah nama menjadi Knight Kris, film animasi ini awalnya bernama Bayu Sekti. Gue ngga tau kenapa berubah, mungkin biar lebih komersil atau ingin mencoba pasar internasional, whatever. Film ini berada dalam masa pembuatan selama 5 tahun, dan baru saja dirilis tanggal 23 November kemaren. Dengan mengusung jargon langganan “Karya Anak Bangsa” diharapkan film ini dapat mendulang sukses merebut hati penonton yang terhipnotis oleh cantiknya Gal Gadot dan macho-nya Jason Momoa (termasuk gue). Jujur gue berterimakasih pada Deddy Corbuzier dan teman – teman investornya tanpa kalian gue ngga tau ini film kapan rilisnya. Dan akhirnya, tahun 2017 ini rilis juga. Sudah ada beberapa film - film animasi “Karya Anak Bangsa” yang muncul sebelumnya, dan gue melihat ada perkembangan dalam setiap produksinya. Jadi gue cukup yakin dan berharap film ini dapat melanjutkan semangat pendahulunya. Tapi sayang sekali gue dibuat kecewa L . Knight Kris adalah film serial layar lebar.

Inkosistensi animasi, sinematografi yang kurang (terutama di adegan action yang mana seharusnya adalah selling point dari film ini) dan model karakter serta latar belakang yang jomplang. Applause utama gue berikan pada voice cast serta musik, visual efek dan color grading untuk film ini. Terima kasih telah menjadikan film tugas akhir kuliah ini jadi lebih terasa mewah. Ya ya gue tau “Jangan bandingin film Indonesia sama film Pixar atau Disney dong bla-bla-bla” tapi di setiap kesempatan berbicara di media lu selalu bilang film kita ngga kalah dengan film – film Pixar atau Disney. I know it’s not necessarily to judge a bad animation movie from it’s animation but they call it animation movie for a reason, dude. It’s the selling point. Banyak adegan – adegan yang seharusnya jadi keren tapi malah gagal keren karena lack of weight, bad timing, even bad facial deformation. Kebanyakan humor dalam film ini adalah slapstick (most of the time the kids laugh) Tapi ketika humornya adalah sebuah reaksi atau gerak tubuh, bad timing ruin the joke.

Gue membagi masalah gue di film ini menjadi 3 : Animasi, Visual, dan Cerita. Animasi yang pertama. Karena gue adalah animator, jadi animasi menjadi yang poin pertama yang gue nilai. Dikerjakanoleh animator – animator fresh, senior dan freelance yang telah mengerjakan film ini dari 5 tahun yang lalu, membuat film ini terlihat inkonsisten dalam gerak animasinya. “There are some good one, and a lot of bad one”. Dari yang gue nilai, standar kualitas animasi dalam film ini terbilang rendah untuk film yang katanya berdana – uhuk – 18 Milyar. Kekurangannya sangat terasa di bagian – bagian penting seperti adegan aksi pertarungan antara karakter utama dan tokoh jahatnya, dimana kamera memegang peranan lebih penting dibanding animasi (kameranya lebih heboh) yang membut kita sulit menikmati animasinya. Belum lagi poor acting choice, lack of weight. Timing and spacing. Tolong kuasai itu dulu. Banyak animasi yang floating dalam film ini. Yang menjadi pertanyaan gue adalah “How old is this animation?” Maksud gue, lu sudah mencoba memperbaharui kualitas animasinya kah secara periodik? Sorry to say, Kalau dalam 5 tahun pengembangan itu kualitas skill animasi lu meningkat, boleh lah lu perbarui atau ada supervisor yang benar – benar tau kualitas yang pantas di layar lebar itu seperti apa. Feature Film Animation, menurut gue, itu tahapan tinggi yang nggak bisa dengan gampangnya lu bilang “Oke, ayo bikin!” Banyak uang, waktu, dan tenaga yang harus keluar. Make a good impression, don’t rush things with all of your juniors. Lu mau gue breakdown adegan - adegan yang bikin gue geleng – geleng kepala? Banyak. Beberapanya adalah (for the sake of your entertainment) :

1. Adegan ketika mobil yang mengantar Rani ke desa Bayu, itu berasa lagi nonton Collin McRae Rally. Jalannya mulus, dan mobilnya jalan dengan kecepatan yang konstan ngga pelan (supaya ga banyak makan frame), gapake rem, gapake klakson (bodo amat kalau melindas warga yang melintas).

2. Ketika ada adegan yang ditujukan untuk humor yaitu adegan Rani kaget dengan wajahnya yang (niatnya) lucu, facial blendshape - nya malah memberikan mimpi buruk. Ini bukan Rani yang gue kenal, ini alien.

3. Walk cycle, run cycle, all your cycles are just there. Cuma ada karena lu harus bikin itu jadi cycle. Floating dan traveling. You were not creating believable walk cycle. Bahkan ada yang gw liat karakter Rani terbang bukan jalan (Gue tau walaupun ga keliatan kakinya).

Ngga bisa gue sebut satu persatu, tapi overall kualitas animasi dalam film ini masih belum believable.

Visual .Desain karakter dalam film ini memiliki kesenjangan dalam kualitasmodelling antar karakternya, dan karakter dengan lingkungannya. Bayu dan Rani memiliki facial blendshape yang lebih buruk dari Kaesang (gue lupa nama karakternya di film) yang membuat gue berpikir karakter model kaesang dibuat belakangan daripada karakter utamanya. Belum lagi desain karakter yang bikin gue berteriak “WTF IS THAT”. Oh ya, THE BEST VISUAL in this movie is the river steam. Seriously, simulasi airnya terlihat realistik! Seperti yang gue bilang sebelumnya, efek visual, warna dan suara di film ini bisa gw acungi jempol. Untuk lebih mudah, gue breakdown beberapa hal – hal yang positif (ada lho) dan negatif yang gue dapet dari visual di film ini :

1. Model Bayu dan Rani terlihat outdated dibanding kaesang yang memiliki facial blendshape yang lebih baik. Texture yang jomplang, yang mana karakter Bayu dan Rani serta geng botak dan warga desa ditampilkan dengan teksture yang flat tapi teksture props dan set – nya malah detil.

2. Desain karakter Bayu dan Rani ditampilkan sangat sederhana dan kurang menarik dibandingkan karakter Kaesang yang terlihat lebih keren, atau perubahan wujud harimau yang menjadi kekuatannya, atau bahkan tangan kanan Asura yang seperti wayang. Gue berharap Bayu tetap berubah jadi Harimau sih, daripada jadi Bayu.

3. Desain karakter villain utamanya, ASURA, membuat gue kesal dan nggak bisa berkata apa – apa. Monster merah raksasa dengan taring panjang dan mata yang merah menyala, oke gue terima. Keren. Lalu gue melihat sesuatu di perutnya. “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??!!” itu kata – kata yang gue ucapkan pertama kali ketika melihatnya lebih dekat. Di perutnya ada SPERMA yang berenang – renang. Gue nggak bercanda. Itu yang pertama kali gue liat. Bahkan pacar gue juga berpendapat sama. That things, yang terbang – terbang di dalam perutnya yang tembus pandang bagai akuarium itu terlihat seperti SPERMA. S-P-E-R-M-A (tarik nafas panjang). Setelah dilihat dengan kamera yang lebih dekat, ternyata itu dimaksutkan sebagai jiwa – jiwa yang dimakan oleh Asura. Jiwa – jiwa yang terperangkap. Sperma (jujur image itu melekat di kepala gue walau gue sudah tau bentuk aslinya). Dari jauh tetap terlihat sebagai…….Sperma.

4. Warna dalam film ini bagus, membantu untuk tone dan mood yang memberikan sperma, eh maksutnya jiwa untuk film ini. Pengisi suara untuk film ini top banget, karena diisi oleh pengisi suara profesional seperti yang kita dapatkan ketika kita menonton film – film kartun pagi di televisi. Suara dan scoring patut diacungi jempol, ketegangan dan keseruan yang dibawakan bisa tersampaikan walau satu lagu utuh yang gue inget itu yang om Deddy nyanyiin di akhir film (yang berhadiah 300 juta itu loh).

Lanjut ke bagian terakhir ya, biar cepet :D hahaha

Cerita dalam film ini jelas sekali ditujukan untuk anak – anak. Tidak ada humor atau referensi yang kalau gue inget, ditujukan untuk audiens dewasa. Tapi sayang sekali, Knight Kris adalah film serial yang dipaksakan menjadi film layar lebar. Kenapa gue bisa bilang begitu? Karena akhir cerita dalam film ini mengingatkan kita pada setiap akhir episode serial Pokemon, atau Dragon Ball ataupun Kamen Rider, yaitu ceritanya berlanjut di episode berikutnya. Kecuali dalam film ini tidak atau tulisan bersambung di pojok bawah. Yakin mau bikin kelanjutannya nih? A good story is shown, not told. Kebanyakan backstory dalam film ini diceritakan, bukan ditunjukkan. Animasi 2D di awal juga bagus kok, tapi sayang cuma dipakai sekali. Bayu adalah karakter anak kecil yang kuat, pemberani, dan tidak takut saat pertama kali teman – temannya menjahilinya. Tapi ketika dihadapkan pada ketakutan yang sesungguhnya, dia hampir tumbang dan akhirnya mampu melawan rasa takutnya. Bagus, di akhir cerita dia bisa mendapatkan character arc untuk itu. Tapi untuk karakter pemain yang lainnya? Tidak ada. Rani adalah sepupu dari Bayu, yang kita tidak tau latar belakangnya kecuali dia sepupu Bayu dan datang ke sana untuk liburan, that’s it. Rani hanya karakter pendamping yang menemani Bayu kemana dia pergi. Empu (si monyet) adalah karakter “orang tua bijak” yang menuntun Bayu sepanjang petualangannya. Yang kita tau hanya dia teman si pembuat keris (yang mana berarti dia tua sekali) menunggu Si Keris untuk bertemu dengan orang yang terpilih. Lebih tepatnya sih Bayu mencabut Keris yang menjadi segel Asura dan membebaskannya untuk kembali meneror dunia. Jadi yang pertama kita salahkan? Bayu. Karakter Kaesang adalah seorang Medjay atau sekelompok orang yang ditugaskan untuk melindungi keris pusaka agar tidak jatuh ke tangan orang yang salah. Kalau kelompok ini sudah ada sejak lama, kenapa si Empu ngga tau ya? Mungkin Empu kurang bergaul dengan masyarakat sekitar. Itu yang kita tau mengenai karakter utama, dan ya hanya itu saja. Tidak ada emotional connectionberarti antara tokoh – tokohnya, yang membuat kita bersimpati kecuali untuk tokoh Bayu yang ayah dan warga desanya berubah menjadi batu. Humor dalam film ini terasa sangat sedikit dan penyampaiannya sering kali gagal, terutama ketika harus dilakukan dengan timing dan spacing animasi (yang mana adalah kekurangan dalam sisi animasi di film ini) yang tepat. Pertarungan akhir dalam film ini terasa sangat lama dan membosankan, apalagi ditambah animasi yang kurang menarik dan kamera yang melelahkan mata. Banyak penonton yang pulang bahkan sebelum film ini selesai. Secara keseluruhan cerita dan konsep film ini terlihat sekali cocok sebagai sebuah serial (yang mungkin saja memang sengaja agar ada yang menawarkan untuk menjadikannya sebuah serial) tapi dipaksakan sebagai sebuah film. Gue nggak ingat apa sebelumnya pernah, tapi gue keluar bioskop dengan perasaan kesal (dengan akhir cerita yang kentang dan sequel bait heavy) dan lelah. Bahkan anak – anak yang menonton merengek untuk minta pulang. Masih banyak PR untuk film animasi kita.

Film ini punya potensi. Potensi untuk jadi serial, bukan (belum) layar lebar. Mungkin perlu belajar pada Boboiboy. Perlu penggodokan yang mungkin tak perlu sampai 5 tahun. Gue nggak tau itu lama di produksi atau bagaimana, yang penonton tau hanya hasil akhir. That’s how life works. Atau mungkin diperlukan pembenahan internal mengenai bagaimana produksi animasi yang benar dan efisien, dan menghasilkan kualitas yang benar – benar “kelas dunia”. Tetap berjuang Viva Fantasia, tak perlu langsung terbang dengan produksi layar lebar, tapi mulailah pelan - pelan dengan serial dan manajemen yang bagus. Jangan sampai bersemi, sesudah itu mati.

Akhir kata, gue hanyalah seorang animator yang bekerja di studio animasi di Jakarta, yang belum pernah mengerjakan film layar lebar. Gue cuma pernah ngerjain Bubble Bath Bay, The Insectibles, Oddbods, Star Wars Lego Freemaker, Mask Master, dan Zack Storm. Mari sama – sama belajar, ayo datang saja ke studio The Little Giantz

A Portrait of my friend, a gift :D

Why Tahu Blora? Well, she's from a city named Blora in Central Java, Indonesia.
We called each other Rama and Sinta. Well i was played as Rama and she played as Sinta in Ramayana myth when we were highschool in Bali.

We lived faraway, i'm in Jakarta and she's in Blora. We haven't met for 8 years, but we still remain in comunication. I would love to fly to her place when i have the time. By the way, Enjoy the pict and thanks for visiting! :D

"Who's going to see Inside Out tonite?"

Then everybody gave their money to me, made me the one who gone to theater to buy the tickets

The total is 34 tickets and when i took a pict as a proof, i realized the tickets taller than me

Unbroken Bond : Making Of Part 1 (Maya Hardware Render 2.0 Set Up)

Sorry it's been long since the last post. I haven't graduated yet but i already work in Jakarta now. So time've been busy recently, and i use my time to enjoy myself before i get my arse to work in this article lol. I've finished my short, well barely finished it, it's not good as maybe everyone expected but i did best as a single fighter for 4 months. Here i would like to mention that i post this article to show you how i did the technical side of the movie; render, lighting, shading, etc. I did some tricks in Maya 2015 so my render would be faster, and i could focusing on animation more.

As i mentioned on the title, i use Maya Hardware Render 2.0 which means i use the viewport render of Maya, and using the advantage of DX11 Shader in Maya 2015. DX11 Shader already implemented in Maya 2013, but you may found some bugs or lags as i read somewhere on the net.

I use this method after i found a blog about Starfish Ninja by Joe Daniels, you can visit the page here : http://starfishninja.blogspot.com/ his blog inspire me to do the same with my student's final short. This topic will be divided into some parts, because it'll probably take long to provide all the information (caused by my addiction to play Witcher 3 i'm sorry). So the first one will be the set up.

Setting Up
You need to change the setting of preferences to DX11 as your rendering engine below :

You need to restart your Maya for the change to take action. Then, you should change your render setting to Maya Hardware 2.0

What's the different? Because you only can render it with Maya Hardware 2.0 if you decide to use DX11 Shader, or you'll only get green result in your render software, or grey material and lighting data in Mental Ray as you can see below :

The advantage of this Shader is, it'll only take SECONDS to generate the rendered image above, even when i set it to 2K image. If you don't believe what i said, here's the proof :

the fastest is 1 Second, and the longest is about 20 seconds (with DOF, Blur). I recommend you to setting the resolution high, because you'll need to reduce it half to 720p because the AA of Hardware 2.0 is imperfect. Here's the setting before you start :

1. File Output is free for you to choose. Targa, PNG, all you need.
2. This "hardware" performance is for animation only. so no need to worry.
3. You can directly use AO in your shot, or you want to put it into render layers (i'll explain later) max samples is 32.
4. I suggest for smoother blur is 0.100 in Shutter Open Fraction while the sample count is 32. 0.200 kinda big for me, but then it depends on the action. you can see it in viewport yourself which suit your needs.
5. The max of AA here is 8 while you'll get 16 in Open GL (it's exactle the same quality) still got a bit of jagginess on the edge (pixelated) so this is why i strongly recommend you to render your shots in 2K image then resize.
6. Gamma Correction let you correct your gamma. i keep it disabled 'cause i already set the gamma to my texture. It'll change the gamma of your shot if you enable it.
7. I strongly recommend you to DISABLE this setting because it'll glitch your rendered shot. I got a lot of problem when i enable it all over my shots.

The pros of this render method are :
1. Fast render time
2. live viewport render (what you see is what you got)
3. DOF and Blur directly without affecting the performance much
4. Can control light, shadows, translucency, etc of your models quite deep

The cons of this method :
1. Shadow quality (you can trick it by make standalone pass)
2. AA quality (tackle the problem by render double the siza then reduce)
3. Fluid quality is limited

Maya Hardware 2.0 can't replace render engine like VRay or Mental Ray, but it could be your solution of fastest render without worry to waste your time rendering. Just trick it with lighting and else. Next will be DX11 Shader.

Delayed Post

So sorry that i have to pending the post due to the tight schedule of my final. now i'm working for 75% done next 9th June, so it'll be hard to sleep (no kidding)

Next, after the final is finally done, i'll be able to post EVERYTHING about the project, and how i can make it with all the animation and render nicely done (i guess), some tips and tricks, and everything else. So be patient and see u soon!

Prelude of Unbroken Bond

I've told you before that it is time for me to work on my final project. And thus this project would be entitled "Unbroken Bond". I'm excited to write about it here because i will force myself to update my progress here and what i will learn along the way. Maybe something that would help my junior or everyone who in their first time making a short.

But first, lemme take selfie (oops nope). But first, maybe you should take a note that this is my very first experience build a story and thus, bear with me that we will learn a lot along the way.

What this "Unbroken Bond" is about?
Well i had an idea in my mind actually, it first come out when i was in my internship period last year. What if? (very first basic question you have to ask to yourself) What if Romeo and Juliet still had a chance to meet it afterlife?

I have a basic idea, about a boyfriend/husband who just lost his partner, commit a suicide to meet her in the afterlife. This idea flew in my mind when i saw an online article about a husband commit a suicide after finding his wife is dead. Did he thinking he can meet her in afterlife?

From that idea, i was thinking to build a story from there. So i need to know more about what a story is, how to make a good structure story, and how to present it. I got this amazing information about first step in your story in this magnificent book : SAVE THE CAT! by Blake Snyder go check it out!

1. Logline
The book said that the VERY FIRST you must have is a logline. A lot of time people have been ask about the film they make, and maybe that is the very first people will ask about your film. "What is it About?" If you can't answer, well that means you're screwed up. The book also said if we put irony into the logline, the story would be better. An example is in the movie 4 Christmas, a newly wed couple must having a dinner with their divorced parents. See? An irony. So i decided to add an irony to my film. at first i want a young couple, but it won't be so dramatic so how about an elder couple? their love bond for maybe half a century would add the drama and gaining empathy. Not enough, i made the husband blind. He can't see at first and he doesn't know his wife's face. So how will he find and he knows when he meet his wife? don't you want to know? :D So the logline i made : "A blind husband facing death to reunite with his wife" is not just randomly created. I've been thinking through it and i hope it's not bad, if not so good.

2. Cast your Character
In a book by Robert McKee STORY, it is said that a character must have a goal, and the main character have a strong desire to get it. Because the story is constructed through the main character/hero. Let's take a note every main character is a hero in their perspective, the do because they believe it's right to do. So the character motive is the main story here. The main character must have at least one chance to attain their goal so the audience belief that the character is capable for getting his goal. Success or failure is up to your choice. This motive, which hopefully led to a emotional journey, will gain an empathy to the audience, to see the character trying. The audience love when the character trying because they can relate themselves to him/her, creating a bond between the character and audience. So the character must be empathetic. In the Unbroken Bond, the husband desire is to meet his wife. thus, it become his only goal and he is a willful man. He even facing the death to find his wife. Just like the Greek myth Eurydice, but Eurydice is just a coward who goes underworld instead face the death to find his wife.

3. On Risk
What is the risk? What do the protagonist stand to lose if he does not get what he wants? More spesifically, what the worst thing that will happen to the protagonist if he doesn't achieve his desire? Should the protagonist fail, life would go back to normal? The measure of the value of a character's desire is in direct proportion to the risk he's willing to take to achieve it; the greater the value, the greater the risk. Every decision you take, every option you choose will have a risk. The question is "Is it worth it?" In the Unbroken Bond, the husband is taking a risk by committing a suicide to meet his wife. The risk is, will he meet her in the afterlife? And that decision he made, is also become a moral value of him. His action/emotion/decision is building his personal value.

4. Writing Inside Out
No, it is not Pixar upcoming movie. It is a way the story we would tell, we write it inside out. To gain the emotional truth, we have to look at ourself first. If we happen in that person situation, what we would do? That's the purpose of writing inside out. We bringing the story from the main character's perspective, how the world build from him/her as the center, and how he handle the situation. We look a story of a man, of course we expect the story about their life, right? And thus making us wonder if we are in his/her life, what would we do? Imagine the one you deeply in love is being taken from you, what you gonna do? If Liam Neeson would go insane and do whatever it takes to get his family back, why wouldn't you? That's the same question for you, if the one who had been with you for decades was taken, would you want to get him/her back? if you're blind, old, and the only one thing you have is him/her, would you still have passion to live?

5. Character Arc
What is Character arc? well because the story is built from the character, so the character must have an arc to make the story good. What is the character in the beginning, and the one he become in the end? It must be different. I remember when Matthew Luhn from Pixar said in their workshop about Cars 2 : "What is Mater in the beginning of the film? And he is in the end? Does he change?" Because he didn't change, which means no character arc, the story fails. Even the story writer of the film said he should have asking the people about the story. And the character arc define the main character. Ah, just like when i read a review about Frozen by Ed Hooks, an acting and story mentor. He said about Frozen that the audience directed to believe the main character is Anna, but the one who got interesting story development and arc is Elsa. It is weird because most of the time we've been showed about Anna's journey to bring Elsa back, thus she should be the main character, right?

6. Find your Conflict
Every story at least have a conflict, if you follow the "classical rule" of archplot. The conflict is not all about facing an antagonist character. It could be with the environment, situation, or even the character's ego itself. The conflict is not necessarily big, but it must LIFE CHANGING. Something that would change your life for sure, thus creating us a character arc, see? And every conflict led us to : Ending

7. Define your Ending
Your story must end in the way audience can't imagine the other way. Which means we have to be exactly crystal clear about the story. No question in our mind, for example there's still a problem or a story that left behind unexplained. That will left audience with questions. Oh just like when i saw Dreamworks's Home, i got a few question in my mind. There's some action they didn't explain and just rush it to make the movie goes forward. Sometimes you even have to think about your ending first before the main story. Because if you don't have proper ending, then you're screwed. Think how you end your story before you start it.

Art of Mr. Hublot arrived from France!

Wow, it's been 2 months from my last post. And i haven't told you that i already finish my internship from Lemon Sky on 29th January and leaving on 2nd Feb.

Right now i'm busy making an animated short film for my final thesis, and soon i'll updating the progress to you guys.

So, because of that, i need a preferences and i think this Art of Mr. Hublot would help me making my movie better. Because, if you don't know, Mr. Hublot is an animated short made by Zeilt Studio from France that winning an Academy Award for Best Animated Movie in 2013, the same year with Disney's get a horse! or Room on the Broom

This book is fantastic, giving lot of information if not all, about the progress of making the short. from sketch to render passes, they even provide the lighting process. It's perfect for someone like me, who in a progress of making one.

Here's some color script provided by the book, and the color i would like to provide in my short is similar with this film, so i kinda excited to see

It is excited and couraging to see the progress. And, i can't wait to work on my project! :D

I know it's a bit late for cheering Happy New Year 2015 :D because in the same time we mourning for Air Asia QZ8501. I give my deepest condolences for all the plane's passangers family, be strong and hope life will be better. Because of the incident, the new year in Malaysia is not so cheerful as we expected, as the news said.

Beside that, because of LRT in Malaysia is not operating after 12 (it still not even for new year's event) and taxis would charge soo much that we decided to celebrate the new year in our condo, along with foods and friends :D

It's not a happy moment for everyone, but still wishing for better year in 2015. So here's our new year

This is our Christmas trip and farewell for 4 of us that'll leave on 1st January, going back to Indonesia :'( sooo sad we have to see them home earlier than us. Because 7 of us decided to extend the contract as Lemon Sky Animation Intern. The rest will going back on 2nd February 2015 :'D. So here's our trip to KLCC (again) :

There's funny story though, one of our friend here (the one in red liverpool shirt) got separated and he had no phone to called. Everyone looking for him but we still have time to take groupfie LOL (sorry Tito we really looking for you everywhere).

Then we just knew from him that he already went back home after quite some time looking for him. Tito you're a pantek. Then we took our time to explore bukit bintang more :

There's a market full with snacks and foods :D #drooling the place is so crowded with people though, and i can't resist to buy a pack of jackfruits (nangka). You can't imagine how much people around, i will upload the picture later about a sea of human in KLCC mall :p

It's the end of December, it's time for whaaaaaat? what, counting the days and wishing for new year goal next year? no man, 2014 is not end yet and it's still a week before new year. It's CHRISTMAS!!

In the beginning of December, Lemon Sky announced that they would held Christmas SECRET SANTA!! what is it? It's an event where all the staff would exchange gift, and all of those present would given in dinner time. They made a rule that the gift should below 30RM (well nobody would know the exact price tag, aight?) as long as the gift would make other people happy it's worth every penny.

I forgot to bring my ipod to take a photo, damn! At least i had a friend that took some photos (no photos would harm the company, Lemon Sky, please don't sue me). The photo is not much, just 3 for the exact number. Sooo sad! Here's all the photos ;

Sorry for long time no post, been busy with work lately. I want to post a student's final short animation made by my friend and animated by me, :D (around 90% of it) later i'll post the others final short i found, made by 2014 graduated student. I don't know why he entitled it Little Bento. Maybe i'll give it in the update later.

Here i provide you some tips and information i've been gathering so far from our Internship Journey in Lemon Sky Animation :

1. They will pick you up at the airport
2. They will book a fully furnish condo unit for you
3. There are 3 rooms in a unit : Master (750RM) Middle (650RM) Small (450RM)
4. Electricity and water bill not included
5. You pay all your accommodation by yourself
6. You will get 500RM as your monthly allowance
7. One sim card for one person, you can buy it at seven eleven or else
8. Lemon Sky have 3 department running : Concept, Games, Animation
9. If you do modelling, you'll placed in Games
10. If you do generalist you might be placed in Animation
11. Concept is like a myth, we don't talk about it much but it exist. And the standart is really high
12. If you want to apply for concept, just try it but give your really best effort
13. Better build a 'Specialized' demoreel
14. No need so formal to work. T-shirt and jeans would do (me everyday)

15. If you are going to do animation learn Maya first so you can catch up to the project faster
16. You can join VFX or lighting and rendering i guess
17. Easy taxi or My taxi would be very useful here
18. Better to always travel in group
19. Manage the schedule of housework
20. Book for badminton court and have fun together
21. Always check Rupiah and Ringgit currency for price comparison
22. Plan your budget, you'll never know when you have to go out of Malaysia then almost got deported
23. Cook is fun! (gained a lot of cooking skills here)
24. Don't hesistate to ask your team leader
25. Intern can't get annual leave
26. You can withdraw money from ATM Bersama at maybank (the currency is higher)

Journey to Malaysia (Part2 - Bukit Bintang and Twin Tower)

29th September 2014, we arrived in Malaysia. Karen and Sue (Suzzlina) picked up us in KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) by 2 cars. It took us about an hour and half to reach Symphony House (our office). After we arrived, they showed us the condominium where we stay for 4 months, Puncak Seri Kelana Jaya.

Because the Condominium is just the opposite of Symphony House (the building name where Lemon Sky is), we just need to walk there. Should be careful tho, cars are driving fast here, feels like the driver want to hit somebody -lol. Cars are everywhere and motorcycle are not much, unlike in Indonesia who riders rule the road.

Then we stayed in Ryan, Jaka and Te's unit, temporary. Because we can't occupied our room until October 2nd. The boys sleep in the livingroom while the girl staying in other unit. Ryan, Jaka and Te are our workmates, Ryan is a Lead Animator and Jaka is Animation Supervisor at Lemon Sky. Thanks for those two and all fellow Lemon Sky animator we learn a lot!

We stay in part of Malaysia that not so crowded i think, like BSD. Before our first day on the job, we walk around and enjoy Malaysia.

We learn to travel in MRT, which the ticket is a blue coin (looks like mineral water's cap) with RAPIDKL written on it. We need to tap the coin when we want to ride the train then insert it when we go out.

We went to Bukit Bintang and KLCC that day, forgot how much station passed to reach KL Sentral. Then we took LRT to reach Bukit Bintang. Bukit Bintang is a large area of shopping district i think. There's one huge mall that we visited there, Pavillion, not so fancy because it is just a mall yeah i know mall is everywhere. At least they speak Malay not Indonesian there -lol.

This is my first time go overseas FYI, so KLCC is a tourism object for me, that i think i should take a picture with -don't laugh at me i know it's so mainstream lol. We roam around too long in Bukit Bintang, then it already night when we came to KLCC. And it's best to come when it night because the Twin Tower looked so bright and cool - i know it looks like an image straight from google lol.

Then we went back to Condo and arrived at Kelana Jaya MRT Station 11 PM i think, fortunately the public bus still operated. So we ride bus rather than getting 3 taxis for all of us. Because i heard taxi in Malaysia will charge you double after midnight. It was a fun first trip, and we will continue the story in next part where the Animation Study Journey never stop! :D

Hello, I want to share to all of you about my internship to Malaysia. This is part ONE of my journey. In this first part i want to tell you about how i ended in Malaysia. So let the story begin :D

How i ended in Malaysia? Well it was my friend Budi tell me that i should go to Malaysia and apply for intern to Lemon Sky. I knew about Lemon Sky about a year ago, when i saw their facebook page and knowing people i be friend with got intern there. There's nothing about Animation they were working on got displayed. Only the promotional project. I was curious you know, knowing it's an international project it must be good. So i asked him a lot of questions about Malaysia, how the work, the life, the expenses, etc. You may ask me for infos too, just add my line czacaesar and i will tell you everything. I will give another tips too, maybe in the next post. Knowing the potential of the work or for your career is good, i decided to build my portfolio to apply.

I was among the first batch who applied. I have to wait about a month to get the interview with miss Syazmeen from Lemon Sky, and i was back in my hometown Bali when they ask me for interview. So i had a Skype interview and she told me i got accepted and have to fill some forms to get working Visa in Malaysia. When i knew all of my friends who will join me to Malaysia, we made contact to prepare about the tickets and all other things. Then we decided to fly to Malaysia on 29th September 2014. Unfortunately, they can't get our condo prepared by the day. So we have to stay at Ryan, Jaka, and Teh's condo (the Lemon Sky regular) for awhile. This is my first time to go overseas, of course i got excited and all :D I'll provided the photos and will continue the story in the next post!

Last Semester in Binus University Animation, we have to made a movie. Movie that combine CGI and Real Life shoot with green screen and stuffs. Me and my team (we are 5 - a guy and 4 girls) made this movie with a lot of hard works.

This is The first Animex outside UK!! :D

I'll never know about Animex in Malaysia if i didn't come to Yong K's desk that morning. I saw him browsing about Animex that'll be held in Malaysia on the end of September. I came to Animex with Baskara, Ossy, Stephanie, and my workmate in Lemon Sky.

The one that i expect to see is no other than The Legendary Ed Hooks :D
Luckily i bring his book to Malaysia with me, then i got the chance to met him in person, shake hand and take some photos :') oh yeah i got my book signed. HELL YAY

Animex 2014 is held in KDU University Damansara Malaysia and luckily it's near my place
