Tower of London

Picnic in the park

With a number of lush parks in and around London, take the chance while the sun’s shining to find your perfect spot, lay out a rug and spread out your wares. Paul A Young Fine Chocolates

Once considered the bad-boy of chocolate (yes, there can be such a thing), Paul Young is renowned for his innovative creations – black pudding truffle with ginger biscuit and beer anyone?  The master chocolatier now has several shops across the capital, with his purple-fronted store on Soho’s Wardour Street just a 15 minute stroll from The May Fair.

Prestat

Thought to be the inspiration for Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the exact history of Prestat is a little hazy, but it has had a presence in London since at least 1902. Its founder, Antoine Dufour, was a member of the Dufour family, inventors of the chocolate truffle and it was these that gave Prestat its reputation. Today, from its location in Princes Arcade, Prestat still turns out luxurious truffles alongside other assorted chocolaty treats.

La Maison Du Chocolate

Not far from Presat and Princes Arcade is La Maison Du Chocolate. Founded by Robert Linxe, The Wizard of Ganache, La Maison Du Chocolate’s first London Boutique was opened in 2004. As well as their intense ganaches and silky pralines, La Maison Du Chocolate’s Éclairs are out of this world, so while this was supposed to be a blog dedicated to chocolate we have to make an exception here. You simply must try one!

Fortnum and Mason

Famed for its luxury hampers, world-famous Piccadilly department store Fortnum and Mason do chocolate as well as anyone, from luxuriously indulgent hot chocolates to decadent Marc de Champagne truffles! A visit to Fortnum’s is an absolute must for any visitor to London, chocaholic or otherwise.

Charbonnel et Walker

One of Britain’s first chocolatiers, and hands down one of its finest! Located in Royal Arcade, Charbonnel’s chocolates do justice to their grand location. Handmade to the traditional recipes of Madame Charbonnel, their truffles are noted for the rich creaminess while their decadent dark chocolate is considered to be their signature. If that weren’t enough, Charbonnel et Walker’s chocolates are packed into delightful handmade boxes, bound with satin ribbons to leave you with a treat that looks almost too good to eat. Almost!

In fact, we’re such fans of Charbonnel et Walker chocolate here at The May Fair that we simply had to share some with you.
