The Digital Lifestyle Show #400 – Ed Bott and Charlie Owen future gazing

Well we make it to show number 400, since I started the podcast in 2005 (then called The Media Center Show) we have talked to hundreds of people and discussed many different technologies some of which we use every day and some have long been forgotten.

In this special show Jason, Garry and I are joined by Charlie Owen and Ed Bott. Charlie is a Program Manager at Microsoft and was on the Windows Media Center team when he first join me on show number 1. Ed Bott is an award winning author and journalist and has been on the TDL Show many times over the years. Rather than looking back at the last 400 shows we are looking forward at technology we could be talking about in the next 400 shows and what kind of devices and services we will be using when we get to show 800. We look at wearable computing and how Google Glass may not be the solution, Microsoft and the OEM landscape in 5 years’ time, Cloud OS v Cloud Services, subsidised tablets and we talk about the challenges in shifting the direction of operating system and not alienating existing uses. It’s a packed show with some really interesting discussions, I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it.

Ed and Charlie have been on many of our podcasts over the last few years and it’s going to be great speculating about the future with them. We will be streaming the recording live 8pm UK/12pm PST on May 1^st in our chat room and the podcast will be out Thursday May 2^nd. We are nearly at the big 400 but not quite yet, this is podcast number 399 and I am joined by Jason to talk over the week’s news. We talk about Windows 8 and is it really responsible for the decline in PC sales? Is the start button coming back? Would an Xbox Surface make sense or would an 8 inch Windows RT device be better? Plus we talk about Netflix moving to HTML5 away from Silverlight, Skype for Windows 8, updated Bing apps for Windows 8 /Windows RT, DVBLink updates and controlling XBMC from Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Our 400th show will be April 30th with Ed Bott and Charlie Owen joining our regular team. We will be streaming the recording live on our live page at 8pm BST.
