Product Description

Before Audrey was the baker's wife, she was the pastor's wife.

Then a scandalous lie cost her husband a pastoral career. Now the two work side-by-side running a bakery, serving coffee, and baking fresh bread. But the hurt still pulls at Audrey.

Driving early one morning to the bakery, Audrey's car strikes something—or someone—at a fog-shrouded intersection. She finds a motor scooter belonging to a local teacher. Blood is everywhere, but there's no trace of a body.

Both the scooter and the blood belong to detective Jack Mansfield's wife, and he's certain that Audrey is behind Julie's disappearance.

But the case dead-ends and the detective spirals into madness. When he takes her family and some patrons hostage at the bakery, Audrey is left with a soul-damaged ex-con and a cynical teen to solve the mystery. And she'll never manage that unless she taps into something she would rather leave behind—her excruciating ability to feel other's pain.

My Review

For five years the kingdom of heaven was like the life she had, and then her world was turned upside down.

Her husband was fired and barred him from seeking another post as pastor, she loses a grandbaby, her husband and son ar taken hostage by Detective Jack Mansfield, she must try to save the life of a woman who can’t stand her.

How wil GOD intervene? What will happen to Audrey’s family?

This is the first book I’ve read by Erin Healy. It starts off slow, but picks up.
The disorder forbids the body from using glucose either completely or partially. As a result, glucose builds up in blood and the person is diagnosed with high blood glucose or blood sugar levels. The hormone insulin produced by pancreas is the primary blood glucose regulator. If the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, blood glucose levels soar high, resulting in Type 1 diabetes.

The patient with Type 1 diabetes requires insulin injections. In other cases, the cells of the body become non-responsive to insulin, thereby causing glucose levels to rise. This is true in the case of Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes produces symptoms like increased thirst, increased hunger, frequent urination, skin infections, delayed healing of wounds, fatigue, weight loss/gain, irritability and erectile dysfunction. Some of the causes of diabetes may be listed as follows:

1. Heredity

2. High intake of carbohydrates

3. Inactivity or lack of exercise

4. Stress

5. Overeating habits

6. Insulin resistance

7. Inadequate insulin production

8. High cholesterol

9. High blood pressure

10. Surgery in pancreas

11. Disease of pancreas

Home Remedies for Diabetes

Research shows that half of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14. For the parents of children who are diagnosed with a mental illness, it can especially be a great challenge. Some mental health problems are mild, while others are more severe. And the time length that they last also differs. Pay attention to excessive anger, fear, sadness or anxiety. Sudden changes in your child's behavior can tip you off to a problem.

Helping young children and their parents manage difficulties early in life may prevent the development of disorders. Mental health issues aren't like other health issues as they affect behavior and or mood. The behaviors and moods are what you have to rely on as opposed to pain and fevers etc. Identifying mental disorders in children can be tricky for health care providers.

Now let's see the situation specifically.

8.6 percent had ADHD, with males more likely than females to have the disorder;

3.7 percent had depression, with females more likely than males to have the disorder;

2.1 percent had conduct disorder;

0.7 percent had an anxiety disorder (GAD or panic disorder);

0.1 percent had an eating disorder (anorexia or bulimia).

ADHD is a condition that becomes apparent in some children in the preschool and early school years, it is hard for these children to control their behavior and/or pay attention. If untreated, the disorder can have long-term adverse effects into adolescence and adulthood.

At any time, more than 6% of kids have some form of anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders can cause kids to be extremely afraid of things or situations that other kids are usually not afraid of, as well as with physical signs of anxiety (nervousness), such as a rapid heartbeat and sweating.

Pervasive development disorders: Children with these disorders are confused in their thinking and generally have problems understanding the world around them. Eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, are common among adolescent and young women in the US. Without help, these mental health problems can lead to school failure, alcohol or other drug abuse, family discord, violence or even suicide.

Early intervention is the key to helping children suffering from mental health issues. Remember, mental health problems can be treated when identified. Early identification is crucial. Treatment may involve medication, psychotherapy, and creative therapies.
And many are not aware that any part of the body can have cancer. We hear about many cases having breast cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer etc. and even the top medical news consists of finding new cures for cancer.
Lung cancer is the cancer that starts in lungs, which are located in the chest and helps the person to breathe. When the air is inhaled, the air goes through windpipe (trachea) into the lungs and spreads through the tubes called bronchi. Generally, lung cancer begins in the cells on the lining of the bronchi tubes.

The lung cancer can be categorized in two types: the common type of lung cancer known as NSCLC - non small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer which makes about 20% of mostly all lung cancer cases. If there is a combination of both these types of lung cancer, it is known as mixed small cell/large cell cancer. When the cancer has not originated in the lungs but spreads from the other body parts to the lungs, it is known as metastatic cancer to the lung.

Lung cancer is said to be the deadliest type of cancer for both men and women. Lung cancer kills more people than many of the cancers combined together. It is common in elder people mostly above the age of 45. Although cigarette smoking is the lead cause of cancer, it also occurs in people who have never smoked.

The risk of cancer is greater when more cigarettes are smoked per day and if it is started at an earlier age. And it may be a myth that smoking low-tar cigarettes lowers the risk. One should also be aware that passive smoking i.e. inhaling the smoke of others increases the risk of lung cancer. It is estimated by American Cancer Society that 3000 non-smoking adults die each year of lung cancer due to passive smoking.

The other causes for the risk of the cancer of lungs may be asbestos, family history, high level of arsenic in drinking water or air-pollution, radiation therapy to lungs, radon gas, or exposure to chemicals causing cancer like mustard gas, uranium, , nickel chromates, gasoline, diesel exhaust, beryllium, chloromethyl ethers and vinyl chloridecoal products.
And it's true that most cases of acne breakouts happen during the puberty period when a person undergoes serious hormonal changes. The intense processes of hormonal balance adjustment in a teen body often result in various minor disorders including skin problems like acne. But once the proper balance is achieved most of the problems wear off and the person doesn't suffer from any conditions. Still, acne can also be a problem for adults and things are totally different when talking about adult acne.

Adult acne is characterized by persistence of the condition as well as the character of acne itself. There are also different causes behind teen and adult acne and different methods of dealing with the problem. And while teen acne may be seen as a temporary problem that doesn't seriously affect a person's life adult acne often become a serious issue impeding the socialization of the person suffering from the condition because of the seemingly unpleasant exterior that plays an important role in social activities.

Adult acne is usually more prominent and visible if compared to teenage acne and the breakouts are usually more severe and frequent, although it may vary from case to case. The main reason behind adult acne is excessive oil production by the skin oil glands. Excessive oil production may be triggered by various issues including hormonal imbalance, gastrointestinal conditions, medication use and others. Some of you may think that excessive oil in the skin isn't such a big problem because you can always use a lotion to prevent the skin from being a bit grease. But apart from the obvious visual moist provided by excessive oil production the main problem is that the excess of oil actually blocks the skin pores. Moreover, the oil is also a great source of energy for bacteria, which normally dwell in the pores. So when the pores get clogged and the bacteria get plenty of food they start multiplying at high rates and cause inflammation that is manifested as acne.

There are different methods for dealing with adult acne and choosing the optimal one depends on the type and severity of acne dealt with. That's why it's usually very important to address a professional dermatologist rather than try to overcome the condition on your own. Sure, you may try simple topical cremes, gels and balms that are advertised as anti-acne solutions but they are usually effective only against simple forms of acne. For more serious cases there's a lot to choose from starting with herbal and medical preparations to antibiotics that eliminate bacterial infections and drugs like Accutane that is considered to be the most potent solution for acne. Drugs like Accutane work by decreasing the amount of oil produced in the skin, which eliminates all the factors contributing to the formation of acne. However, the drug is very potent and if misused may lead to serious side effects. That's why it's highly recommended to consult with a dermatologist regarding the treatment of acne in order to get the right solution for your problem.
There are a number of reasons that can cause this, such as diseases that cause the heart muscles to weaken or stiffen, and also the diseases that increase the demand of oxygen by the body tissues exceeding the capability of the heart to deliver it.

Heart attack is one of the key causes of congestive heart failure. Congestive heart failure can cause lots of bad effects on our body including impeding the function of other body organs such as the kidneys, which may not excrete salt and water from the body due to inadequate oxygen, leading to retention of fluids in the body. For this reason, it is important that the patients get congestive heart failure treatment as soon as possible because the condition will end up affecting the entire body if not untreated.

Congestive heart failure treatment will improve the symptoms and help the weakened heart work efficiently as possible. One of the most common treatments for the condition is vascular surgery. A vascular surgeon will treat different blood vessels in the body so that they restore the flow of blood to different parts of the body due to one condition or another. The surgeons can also operate heart valve surgery in order to reduce the symptoms.

Apart from surgery, the patients can take different types of medication as a form of heart attack treatment. Some of the medication include those that dilate the arteries in order to help the heart pump the blood all through the body while other help by facilitating a forceful contraction of the heart. Medical devices is also used to help patients hearts pumping blood throughout the body.

Changing life style might be very helpful to treat the heart diseases. Some of the lifestyle changes include limiting intake of alcohol and caffeine, reducing the amount of sodium, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising and reducing stress. In doing so, it will not only reduce the symptoms of the heart attack but also prevent it from worsening. That is why some doctors will tell us that the most important part in the heart disease treatment is the patient himself. Without changing the lifestyle, the heart diseases could be treated by surgery, medication, medical device, etc. However, it is impossible to be cured.
Perhaps not by tugsearch

Back in the 1980s most milk was delivered to the doorstep by our local milkmen. Figures suggest that nearly 80% of our daily pints arrived on the back of a milk float. Today, that figure has dropped to nearer 13% and has looked like it is in terminal decline in some parts of the country. Milk delivery in London, you would expect, has pretty much ceased to exist, but surprisingly there has been something of a comeback in recent years and this could well be set to continue.

Price wars

Supermarkets are well known for their lethal affects on High Streets around the country - London being no exception. Our shopping habits have changed with the rise of these cut-price giants. With the power of bulk purchase behind them the price of supermarket shopping has been one of the key reasons it has been so popular. The 21st century saw the rise of another threat to the traditional milk delivery services in London and other UK cities. The internet - specifically internet grocery shopping - has had a slow start but is making headway. More and more people are willing to purchase daily essentials online and have them delivered directly to their door. Weekly and monthly shops are well suited to this, but all the little shops in between are still necessary and it's in this area that the milkmen of old have been able to find a niche that may well save their industry.

Changing needs

Another trend that has seen consumers more interested in the services of smaller delivery services has been the increasing focus on green living. Supermarkets have tried to cater for this, but like all large companies with massive supply systems in place, they are unable to react quickly. Veg box schemes and locally sourced produce have been the buzz words of the last few years - and milk delivery services in London have seen an opportunity ripe for the picking. Providing additional products for delivery was the obvious route for the dairies - everyday essentials that all households run out of from time to time. Milk, eggs, cheese, tea, coffee, bread, toilet roll and tin foil; the list goes on - in the case of some dairies it goes on by around 250 products.

Big advantages with small services

The real advantage to milk delivery in London - or any UK city - is that with established rounds the dairies don't add a delivery charge. Considering the fact that you can order just one or two items and expect delivery bright and early the next morning, this service is unique. The milkmen are usually delivering before the supermarket's delivery men and women have clocked on for the day - and with an ordering facility that allows you to place an order up to nine pm, this has to be the most efficient grocery delivery going. Milk delivery in London may have been on the decline for many years but that now seems set to change - a fact that will please many consumers as much as it will the milkmen themselves.

Dirt, salt, road tar, bugs, tree sap and grime can all find their way onto your vehicle's surface, causing damage. Whether the buildup is from normal driving conditions or from playing in your favorite mud hole, using the best chemicals to clean your car's exterior is vital to maintaining your car's value and keeping it looking new. How are these things damaging to your car's exterior, you ask?

The most commonly known car-exterior killer is salt. Almost all vehicles on the road will be exposed to salt at one point or another. On the coastlines, it is in the air and constantly blankets your vehicle on a daily basis. Farther inland, you'll most likely encounter salt in winter when it is scattered on the road's surface to help melt ice. Salt is highly corrosive on a car's surface, causing rust and eventually eating holes in the metal. This is why it is imperative to wash your car regularly. With so many products to choose from, how do you know what's best? AFe makes it simple with the Optimum Car Kit. The kit is packed with everything you need to properly wash and protect your vehicle's surface with ease.

Mud and dirt may seem harmless enough, but they are major contributors to dulling the finish on your car and leaving your paint, chrome and aluminum looking flat or pitted. Mud and dirt particles are abrasive, rubbing against the surface of your vehicle. Over time, they slowly grind away your shiny new finish and damage the brilliant sheen on metal; imagine a superfine grade of sandpaper constantly raking over your vehicle. Regular waxing will help keep your paint from deteriorating and prevent pitting on your expensive chrome and aluminum wheels and trim. Mothers offers a wide range of quality waxes to help protect your investment.

Encountering bugs while driving is inevitable. For some reason, it seems they are attracted to moving cars. If only they could learn that it is a likely death sentence for them, and it can be for your car's paint as well. Acids in a bug's body spread on paint, with the unavoidable splats that occur, and work to disintegrate the paint's structure, leaving pits in your bumper and grill-work and eating away the top coating on your vehicle. Tree sap is another culprit containing acid that will destroy your finish, so think twice before parking under that shady tree to keep your interior cool. Regular washing and waxing with aFe's Optimum Car Kit works preventively to protect your vehicle from bug and tree sap acids.

Freshly laid asphalt is a dream to drive on but a nightmare when you get home to see black specks and gooey gobs along the bottom panels of your car. If left untouched, road tar can take chips of paint with it when finally removed, so be sure to wash your car immediately upon noticing it. If you have passed through any construction sites in your travels, check for road tar when you reach your destination and address the issue as soon as possible. Preventative car care with a top-of-the-line wax from Mothers makes it difficult for road tar to embed itself into your paint and makes it easier to remove.

Prevention is the key to keeping your car looking new and will increase the value of your vehicle when it comes time to trade it in. Cheaper car care products can contain strong solvents and abrasive ingredients that damage your car. AFe and Mother's formulate their products to be safe for your washing and waxing needs; that's why they are the leaders in exterior car care. Using the best chemicals to clean your car's exterior ensures you are keeping your investment protected and your car looking new. So if you want to maintain your vehicle's integrity, invest in the best.

Dog owners around the world are finding great success with methods from famous trainer Cesar Millan. Whether people are looking to teach young pups the right way or correct problems with their difficult canines, Cesar's dog training offers a controlled, systematic approach that dogs of any breed can benefit from learning. At CesarsWay.com, dog owners can ask questions of Cesar or vets Dr. Sherry Weaver and Dr. Kristy Conn. Owners can also check out Cesar's exclusive tips, magazine features and archives of his National Geographic Channel television show, The Dog Whisperer.

Cesar Millan -- The Dog Whisperer Rises to Popularity

Cesar first began working with dogs as a young boy on his grandfather's farm in Mexico. After moving to the United States at the age of 21, Cesar began working in a dog grooming store, where he focused on the most aggressive dogs. He later created both the Pacific Point Canine Academy and Dog Psychology Center, for which he began to gain recognition and a popular following.

After being profiled by the Los Angeles Times, Cesar began working with the National Geographic Channel on his television show, The Dog Whisperer. The show, which premiered in 2004, portrays Cesar's work in dog rehabilitation and is now broadcast in more than 80 countries. His book, Cesar's Way, came out during the show's second season and quickly became a widely-acclaimed bestseller.

Cesar's Revolutionary Approaches to Training Dogs

Cesar holds unique philosophies when it comes to dog training. His work focuses on a dog's primary needs, which he lists as exercise, discipline and affection. Under Cesar's school of thought, a dog's most important need is exercise. When owners ensure that their dogs receive regular, vigorous exercise, the dog's energy level is filled and the dog is less likely to act out.

A dog's second need is discipline and Cesar emphasizes that owners must get clear on this principle. Owners should set clear boundaries on a dog's behavior, in particular by watching for signs of bad behavior before it arises. Cesar advises owners to watch a dog's facial expressions and movements closely in order to predict when a dog might be getting ready to act out.

Finally, Cesar focuses on a dog's need for affection. Because many owners tend to give their dogs affection when the canines are anxious or nervous, these behaviors are unintentionally reinforced. Instead, Cesar notes that owners should focus on giving dogs affection when the animals already have a balanced level of energy. This promotes calm behavior and positive energy for the dog.

Cesar also stresses that owners must recognize the impact of their own attitudes on their dogs. While filling the dog's three basic needs, an owner should also take note of his or her own emotions and physical behaviors. In order to project a calm but assertive energy to the dog, an owner should keep his or her voice level, posture strong and emotions balanced.

The Success of Cesar Millan

Throughout his years of dog training, Cesar has accumulated numerous success stories of dogs that have overcome their fears and behavioral problems with his direction. Some of the most popular stories with viewers are profiled on his website, such as that of Luna the Lab Mix. Before Cesar worked with Luna, she was a frightened dog that hid constantly and had extreme anxiety. However, after spending time at the Dog Psychology Center socializing with other dogs, Luna is now more sociable and curious about the world. Luna's improved behavior has helped her to live a fuller life and to enjoy her surroundings.
Pay head to this pet health care advice. Don't leave pooch in the car ever in the heat of the day or even in the "warm evening" if it doesn't cool down. It's great for the family including your loved pet to go to the beach or park where pets are allowed. But dogs can get sun burn if they have light colored skin and fur and definitely can get overheated from too much too long play. Have lots of water available also. They need to replenish liquids like we do. Love your pet and take care of your pet's health.

In the Summer Heat even playing to hard and too long with your dog can be dangerous. An important piece of preventative dog health care is to emphasize that dogs can overheat more quickly that people. They only cool off or aerate by sweating from the food pads on their paws, panting and from extending their pinnae or ear flaps. We see way too many heat stroke cases from jogging with owners and playing in the park at the peak heat of the day. Use some common sense, have water available at all times and limit exercise to the cooler times of the day and not for too long a time period if it is hot. Love your pet.

The more knowledgeable you are, the better able you will be to be active in the pet preventative health care plan for your dog or cat. Always remember that seeking online veterinary advice is never a substitute for a physical exam and minimum data base medical work up by your veterinarian. Be wary of sites that promise definitive (final) diagnosis and treatment regimens; real ethical veterinarians would not give a definitive diagnosis, direct or prescribe treatment without having seen your pet in person. It should always be information to discuss with your primary care veterinarian.
Hmm... Before we go for a cure it may be a good idea to try and know our enemy. What are our signs and symptons. What type of Insomnia do we have. Perhaps a working definition would be helpful.

The experts seem to agree that something along these lines would suit.

"Insomnia" is any episode of unrefreshing sleep, difficulty falling asleep, frequent awakenings, or waking up too early in the morning and not being able to drop back off. Women and the elderly seem to be the most frequent sufferers. We can divide these episodes into three collective groups and label them Short-term Transient or Chronic.

A quick explanation of these three would be as follows;

Transient, a simple disturbance in sleeping patterns. A short illness, a sudden change in lifestyle, stress, isomething that leads to a short term change

Short-term insomnia is is less fun. It lastsfor about 2-3 weeks. Causes could be something like a new job, divorce, serious illness, financial problems, or a family berevement.

Chronic as the name suggests is the real thing. Chronic insomnia is the rarest and most serious type, with Insomnia lasting longer than a few weeks. I've just been reading a learned article that says Chronic Insomnia is fairly rare. That may be so but if 10 percent of the US population suffers from it thats over 20 Million people leading a life of misery.

While it would be nice to blame insomnia on things outside our control , many cases of insomnia are self inflicted by such things as caffeine, smoking, poor eating habits, alcohol and lack of exercise.

Caffeine is one the most widely blamed causes of insomnia. An ingredient in coffee, tea, colas, chocolate, and some medications, caffeine is a stimulant . We insomniacs DO NOT NEED stimulants. Quite the reverse. Insomnia solution number one - Cut out the caffine.

Alcohol is often reccomended as a nightcap. Forget it. Thats only beacuse your Doctor drinks it. Alcohol actually lightens and fragments sleep, causing you to wake up as your body metabolizes it. You may think you're in a deep sleep, but your not getting the deep sleep that Insomniacs need for a cure. Insomnia solution number two - No Alcohol with a couple or four hours of bedtime.

Eating. Yes, I know I can't ban you from eating but I can jump on the slimmers bandwaggon. Eat a light last meal a couple of hours before going to bed. Avoid spicy and fatty foods that cause indigestion. Lets hear it for MILK. Milk has an amino acid that the body converts to a sleep-enhancing compound in the brain. Calcium is a natural relaxing agent along with several other vitamins such as the B vitamins and magnesium. Have a look at the bottom of the page for details on how to find others. If you get hungry at night, have a light snack before bedtime. Some foods are helpful and actually promote production of melatonin, a hormone associated sleep. Try cheese, soy nuts, chicken, pumpkinseeds, and turkey. High-carbohydrate foods such as bread act upon another hormone, serotonin, which helps to reduce anxiety and contribute toan insomnia solution. Insomnia solution no three. Be careful what you eat.

Nicotine products are universally bad for you. For the Insomniac nicotine has to go. It's a stimulant that increases blood pressure, speeds up the heart rate, and stimulates brain activity. Insomniacs do not need increased blood pressure, a fast heart rate and a stimulant. Insomnia solution number four. No more ciggies!

Regular exercise is good in fact its excellent, (here comes the but) but, not just before bed. If you work out too close to bedtime, the increase in your heart rate and metabolism will make your body too excitable to sleep. Exercise earlier in the day and give the body a chance to produce that warm rosy glow and relax as the body reacts by producing melatonin to take your temperature down to normal. Exercise for an insomnia solution!

Make your bed as comfortable as possible. Experiment with what works best for you. Choose a position conducive to sleep. If your partner is the source of your insomnia consider a change of rooms for a while. Get rid of the alarm clock . It only acts as a stressful reminder that you aren't sleeping.

Control the amount of light in your bedroom. Excessive brightness not only affects your eyes, but it also influences the hormone production that helps to establish a healthy sleep cycle. Wear a sleep mask if necessary. Dark is usually good for an insomnia solution.

When it comes to noise, many people find repetitive sounds easier to sleep through than intermittent and abrupt ones. Ear plugs or a continuous background sound such as a fan can help mask disturbing noise (the next- door neighbors barking dog in my case). Consider is a white noise machine.

Control the thermostat. Temperature extremes, whether too hot or too cold, are no fun for the light sleeper. Cool is usually good for an insomnia solution.

Hope some of these help. Drop us a line and let us know,

Sleep well.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

A Bug Man Novel: Nick of Time

The Bug Man is getting married on Saturday . . . if his fiancee can find him.

Forensic entomologist Nick Polchak lives in a world of maggots and blow flies and decomposing bodies. No wonder he's still single.

But Nick has finally found a woman as strange as he is—dog trainer Alena Savard, a woman who is odd, reclusive, and can seemingly talk to animals. It was a match made in heaven.

Nick and Alena are scheduled to be married on Saturday—but there's one small problem. Nick has disappeared.

Caught up in a murder case involving an old friend, Nick finds himself on a manhunt that's drawing him farther and farther from the church where Alena is waiting. But will he make it back in time? Could Nick's single-minded focus cause him to forget his own wedding? Is he really pursuing a killer, or is he running away from something else?

MY REVIEW
Nick and Alena are getting married. They are planning a wedding. neither one of them knows the first thing about weddings. To top it off Nick is leaving in the middle of wedding planning to go to Philadelphia, for a meeting of The Vidocq Society. The Vidocq Society is a group of volunteers from all over the world, representing more than seventy different forensic specialties(pathologists, odontologists, psychophysiologists, fingerprint experts, blood spatter analysts, homicide reconstruction specialists, explosives experts) and even a forensic entomologist-Nick. It’s a week before his wedding and he’s starting to second-guess hisself. Then when he arrives in Philadelphia to see his long-time friend, Pete, he doesn’t show up at the meeting. Nick goes to his home to find out why he didn’t show up only to find his friend dead. Nick proceeds to find out how and why his friend is dead.
I seem to hear this kind of question all the time these days.
I mean, who wants to take some pill that may not even help with your anxiety disorder, and at the same time, may cause unwanted side-effects that are worse than the anxiety itself.

There are a lot of tried and true natural remedies to help you handle panic attacks and calm down the symptoms of an anxiety disorder, which I want to tell you about.

Anytime you can do something natural for treating anxiety, you are taking control of your life. This is achieved by not allowing yourself to be caught up in the cycle of taking medication, feeling worse and having to take even more medication.

When looking for a natural remedy for a panic disorder, you may want to try some herbal supplements or stick with all-natural, no medication treatments to suppress your symptoms. Let's take a look at a few of each of these types of remedies.

Herbal Remedies:
There are a few popular herbal remedies that people use to ward off the symptoms of generalized anxiety such as chamomile tea, passion flower and Kava Kava roots made into a kind of a stew/tea.

Using herbal remedies is increasingly popular among anxiety sufferers, but before you try to use these remedies yourself you may want to consider discussing any use of them with your physician first.

Even though these herbs are natural, they can still interfere with any medications you may be taking, which means they can produce unwanted effects. That's not to say that they are not safe or effective, but it is always a good idea to check with your doctor before doing anything new where your health may be concerned.

Meditation:

People have been using meditation for relaxation purposes for centuries, so it is a method worth checking out if you have anxiety/panic attacks regularly.
The idea behind meditation is that as you learn to think in a positive manner, your negative thoughts will have less of a chance at making their way into your daily routine. As a person with a panic disorder, you already know that the reason that you go from anxious to full-blown panic is because of negative thinking.

If your heart was to speed up a little bit, and you didn't instantly think that something was wrong with you, then you wouldn't have anxiety attacks, right? So it stands to reason that if you get in the habit of thinking more positive thoughts, the negative ones will not be so quick to make their way into your mind for a given situation.

These two are intertwined when it comes to the health factor of an individual. An individual's health is a key factor when his productivity in a particular occupation is to be judged. The working conditions for an individual would determine the severity of the effects on his/her health. The occupational risks to one's health can be mechanical hazards, physical hazards, biological hazards, chemical hazards, psychosocial issues depending on the type of occupation. A glaring example can be the Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984 where not only the lives of the numerous workers were lost and adversely affected but even the city was enveloped in a death cover. It seemed hell had broken itself loose on the city, but it was utter callousness that resulted in the mayhem.

When the environmental health factors are put forth, a number of things need to be taken care of by an organization which include both the natural and man built environment. Proper sanitation, food protection, housing, institutional environmental health, land use, community noise control, recreational swimming areas and waters, electromagnetic radiation control, solid, liquid, and hazardous materials management, underground storage tank control, on-site septic systems, vector control, drinking water quality, and emergency preparedness. Certain parameters which make a working space workable must be adhered to. Organizations should come up with greener and cleaner ways of industrial productions. This way the organization and the individual will benefit on the occupational and the environmental front, rather than compromising on the best and essential input for the economy, the human resource.

Another set of determinants which has come to the fore is the psychological factor at the work place. Sexual harassment, excessive job pressure, depressing work culture, the resultant idiotic inclination and dependence on nicotine and alcohol consumption are further aggravating the already serious scenario. Almost every nation around the globe has specific labour and industrial laws in place to take care of the occupational health of the working class and along with that the environmental factor too is taken care of, by designated ministries.

Occupational health and environmental health are cross-disciplinary area which are concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment without compromising on the environmental factor. The goal of every nation and organization should be to foster a safe working environment which shall for sure have a secondary effect, by protecting the co-workers, family members, employers, customers, suppliers, nearby communities, and other members of the public who are impacted by the workplace environment.

By : Susan Sportman

I think it is really sad to think of the number of dogs being put to sleep because they are battered, abused or simply unwanted. These include a great number of dogs that would make excellent house pets and companions for someone. When you think of getting a dog, why not consider one of these poor animals that are destined to die if no-one saves them.

Many dogs are abused by their owners, through lack of care (not getting enough food or water even) or through simple neglect (simply being tied up and left in a backyard and forgotten). These poor creatures are starved not only for the essentials of food and water, but for companionship as well. Sometimes caring neighborhood people will notice these neglected animals and report the owners to the SPCA or other animal agency.

In severe case, the SPCA will take the animals away and try to rehabilitate them into becoming adoptable. Sometimes the animals can be saved in this manner, but too many times the dogs are beyond help and are tragically put to sleep. The SPCA only has so much funding and resources for these poor neglected creatures. They can only do a fraction of what really needs to be done to help these animals.

Dog rescues work in somewhat the same way in that they try to rehabilitate the dogs into becoming adoptable and try to find homes for them, but they are often breed specific. For instance, there are dog rescues that are specifically for Boxers or for Pit Bulls or for any other specific breed.

One type of dog rescue that you may not know about is for Greyhound dogs. Typically Greyhounds are bred for racing. When they become older and cannot run as fast, or start to lose races, these dogs are often discarded by the owners because they are not profitable anymore. A dog rescue geared for Greyhounds will take these animals under their care and try to find suitable homes for them.

Other dog rescues will take animals that have been abused and are somewhat disabled. The SPCA often will not be able to find homes for these types of dogs because most people don't want to bother looking after a pet that may need a bit more care. Dog rescues will help find homes for these disabled animals as well. Recently there was a case of a totally blind Boxer that needed a home, and a Boxer dog rescue centre was able to place him with a loving family. If that family had not taken that dog, he may have been euthanized. Instead, he is able to live a good life with a family who has gained a lovely companion.
If you are thinking of getting a dog, you may want to check out the dog rescues in your area. Often you will be able to get a breed of dog that you like (for a lot less money than paying for a pure-bred puppy). You will get a loving pet and you will also have the satisfaction of knowing that you have probably saved a dog's life.

By : karen campese

This is the time of the year when you want the air conditioning in your car to be running at its peak performance. If yours is not, there are some things you can do to fix it.

If your A/C works for awhile, but then begins to blow warm air, it is freezing up. That occurs when there is air and/or moisture in the system. To correct the problem, use a vacuum pump to purge the system.

If your A/C only blows warm or hot air, check the compressor by starting the car and putting the A/C on. If the compressor itself makes a lot of noise or you hear a squeal, it is telling you it is time to replace it. If not, look to see if the compressor clutch is turning. The clutch is located in the front of the compressor. If it is turning, there is enough refrigerant in the system. Most cars have a safety switch that shuts off the compressor if it is too low on refrigerant.

If the compressor clutch is not turning, check to see if it is getting voltage. If it is not, replace the fuse. Then start the car and put the A/C on. If the A/C works for awhile, but the fuse subsequently blows, you have a short somewhere. If the compressor is getting voltage but it is not engaging, the clutch is bad and needs to be replaced. If you feel any liquid around the compressor shaft seal, you should replace that also. Remember, before you replace any parts, the refrigerant must first be evacuated from the system.

One good way to diagnose the system is by using a set of A/C service gauges. The price range for a set of gauges is $50 and up. Attach the gauges to the high and low service fittings on the A/C unit. Then turn the A/C in your car to the highest setting and rev the engine. If both gauges read low, the problem could be with the compressor or that the system is low on refrigerant. Before you recharge the system, check for leaks.

If you have an older car with an R-12 system, you can feel for an oily residue around the compressor, condenser, hoses, etc. Most new cars have an R-134 system. Leaks with this system are harder to find because you will not find any oily residue. Another way to check for leaks is to spray some soapy water on the hoses, connections, etc. Wherever you see a bubble, there is a leak. If you find a leak, you need to replace that part. Unfortunately, if your evaporator or condenser is leaking, the replacement cost will be high. If you do replace the leaky part, you will need to recharge the system afterwards.

If you do not find any leaks, the system could still need to be recharged. That is because all cars leak some refrigerant through tiny pores in the hoses and through the seals. The older the car, the more refrigerant will have leaked. Newer cars have a smaller system capacity than older ones. Therefore, even a small amount of leakage in a newer car can negatively impact its cooling capability.

This can be seen in the exploding direct to video market where urban movies reign supreme. The rising quality of independent urban movies has made them much more attractive to DVD consumers.
Some talented film directors behind this urban movement are Charles Dutton, Damon Dash, Sid Kali, Hype Williams, John Singleton, Dale Stelly, Mike O'Dea and Quentin Tarantino.
The diversity of the urban genre continues to grow because the storylines are connecting with a larger audience by going beyond what you would expect to see in an urban movie. Filmmakers are pushing the complexity and overall look of the urban genre to new levels.

Exploring the urban landscape and culture makes for entertaining films that offer viewers a look into a slice of americana they might not otherwise experience. Collaborating with dedicated individuals that work in front of the camera and behind the scenes to create quality urban movies has always been a life goal of Director Sid Kali.

Sid Kali made his directorial debut with the urban feature "Consignment". The spirit of independent filmmaking came together. We felt "Consignment" was best served highlighting a Latino and Black perspective of the events that were going to unfold in the film.
The plot centers around a Virginia Beach drug dealer that runs into trouble and has to lay low in Southern California. This being the movies all the problems that come with power, drug money, fast women, and jealous rivals has to come out. It was nice to be able to mix in the subtle cultural differences between the two places.

This West Coast and East Coast mix worked out because Co-Producer and Editor Tim Beachum had lived in Ohio, Detroit , and Virginia Beach during his years. While Sid Kali has only lived in Southern California his entire life. By working together they were able to blend these influences together. "Consignment" is being released on DVD November 2007 by Maverick Entertainment Group, Inc. Support independent film and add this feature to your DVD collection.

An important aspect of making an urban movie is keeping it authentic. At the independent level budgets are tighter, so it helps if you write a script that has elements you can realistically translate from the page to the screen. The basic idea is to write a script that you can shoot using your resources. The cool thing with urban movies are they lend themselves to many more backdrops than before.

It used to be when you attached the word urban to a film the story had to take place in the inner city. That's changing as urban culture and style is moving beyond those pervious boundaries. This makes for an exciting time to shoot urban movies.

The word "crime drama" is used to describe films like "Training Day", "The Departed", "Heat" and 'Scarface'. To some movie buffs these are urban masterpieces done by highly talented and respected filmmakers at the top of their creative game. This shows the diversity of the urban genre.

After the experience of shooting "Consignment". Slice Of Americana Films wanted to expand their take on the urban genre with "In With Thieves". This urban movie brings together a unique blend of creative elements.

"In With Thieves" features a Cuban cartel that practices their own version of Santeria, an African based crime group that deals in blood diamonds, ruthless Albanian gangsters, and an American burglary crew that is Latino, Black, and Irish.

This unique blend of creative and visual elements we felt would make for a provocative urban film. The inspiration was to show that urban stories can have global influences.
Career criminal Jack McGee (Tony Napoli) is out of prison facing hard times. His trophy wife Karen (Jennifer Day) spent all the money they had stashed away and found time to fall in love with another man. Max (Edward Gusts) his junkie brother-in-law, made enemies with the Albanian Mafia leaving Jack to hold the bag on a large debt. The release date for Jack insn't a surprise to anyone who runs in criminal circles. Former gang member turned burglar Hector Garcia (Walter Pagan) and street huslter Frank Washington (Jerome A. Hawkins) are his partners in crime. When Jack was running the robbery crew they were flush with cash. After he went inside the scores dried up. Now it's time for them to reconnect and go back to work.

Anton (Jayson Matthews) a savvy and vicious Albanian boss, has his trusted solider Vicktor (Marek Matousek) carry out a brutal act of violence to send a message to Jack. The message is clear to Jack. Pay the debt or everyone close to him will be murdered. Over friendly welcome home drinks Jack asks Hector and Frank to come through on the money he needs to pay off Anton. They both refuse his request turning the reunion bitter and bringing some old wounds to the surface.

Karen halfway walks back into Jack's life pushing him into a frantic mix of anger, confusion, and dark alcohol fueled thoughts. She's still involved with the other man. Adding to his problems is a gunpoint reminder that he has a short time to pay his debt or Karen will be killed. Pressed he hooks back up with Hector and Frank to steal the money he needs to pay Anton. They come up short.
He falls into a heated sexual affair with contract killer Rita Desouza (Arnita Champion) to numb his pain. Sex turns to conspiracy when she lays out a plan to have her husband ripped-off during a 5 million dollar diamond deal. Her husband is ruthless Cuban kingpin David Desouza (Art Parga). He's heavily into his own version of Santeria and the blood diamond market. He depends on Rita and his most bloodthirsty enforcer Voodoo (Jesse James Youngblood) took keep people in line.

Jack brings in Hector and Frank to help him pull off the robbery. Out of time on his debt he's forced to let Anton in on the job for a large cut of the take. They crash in on illegal blood diamond deal between a Cuban cartel and an African based crime syndicate headed by an ambitious upstart known as Omar (Keion Adams).

The rip-off erupts into deadly violence. This sets off a frenzy of double-crosses and brazen executions that entwine everyone in a bloody conflict that plays out to an explosive ending. Friendship, loyalty, and love run short in a world of greed.
The trailer can be viewed on YouTube.Com, Yahoo Videos, Google Videos, AtomFilms.Com, and iFilm.Com

"In With Thieves" is in the final stages of post-production and is being represented to interested distributors by Mark Steven Bosko the author of "The Complete Independent Movie Marketing Handbook". A must read for independent filmmakers that want practical advice on the business. While filmmaking is an art you should be prepared for the harsh realities of the business side. All filmmakers take lumps coming up through the game.

Urban movies will continue to rise as talented filmmakers show their passion for making movies with an independent heart. Slice Of Americana Films has started pre-production for their third urban movie titled "Stash Spot". Rival criminals fight to find a fortune in cash ripped-off during a drug deal gone bad. When the stick-up artists responsible turn up dead, a bloodbath erupts as each vicious criminal makes their ruthless play to locate the money.

You always learn things with each film you produce. Hopefully filmmakers will continue to push the urban genre beyond what it is now.

* Quick and dirty tips if you're going to produce your own urban movie:

(* does not apply to filmmakers that have Hollywood connections or access to big money)

Avoid writing an amazing scene like the shoot-out in 'Heat' if you can't pull it off.

Write realistic locations into your script that you have shooting access to.

Action scenes are always going to take longer to light and shoot than talking head scenes.

Make sure your dialogue is authentic to the culture of the street. If you're writing your own script the right words will cost you nothing.

Wardrobe can't make Corey Feldman (nothing against The Corey) a Latino gangster by having him wear a bandanna and a flannel shirt buttoned only at the top. You see that type of phony wardrobe in some really bad urban movies.

Nothing will go as planned.

Leave your ego behind.

Whatever happens keep the show rolling.

Inward-turning eyes, called a convergent squint or "cross eyes", usually occur in young children. A divergent squint, when the eyes turn outwards is less common. Although not necessarily painful, a squint can be a distressing condition. Many adults are concerned about their cosmetic appearance, and nearly four in every 100 adults suffer from some form of squint. They may wish to correct this from a cosmetic angle, but there is also the physical disability that often accompanies this condition; loss of eye-hand coordination; bumping into things when ascending, or descending stairs or kerbs; crossing the street, driving, and playing sports.

Many adults who suffer from squint problems are not aware that help is at hand. The good news is that adults need not suffer. Recently there has been an increase in effective, available treatment.

The principal treatments used are Botulinum Toxin and/or eye muscle surgery. Botox has become 'the injection du jour' as more and more people follow in the footsteps of celebrities to smooth out their wrinkles. However, few people realize that the medical use of Botox was originally for the treatment of eyes that were squint. Today, a simple injection can rectify many unsightly turns of the eyes. This is an outpatient procedure that requires only a few drops of anaesthesia, and takes about 30 seconds. "Botox treatment has made a real difference for many patients. Not only does it help to realign the eyes, it can increase confidence and social skills. It's not just a cosmetic thing, it can affect your job prospects," says Mr Christopher Bentley, a consultant ophthalmologist.
But is Botox safe?

According to the surgeons who carry out these 'squint' treatments, Botox has become the treatment of choice for muscular spasms affecting the face; and repeated studies have demonstrated that it is effective and safe. The target muscle is injected with a very fine needle. Benefits begin in one to 14 days after the treatment, and can last on average about three to four months, after which you can go for a top up. All effects of the toxin ultimately reverse with time. A range of studies have confirmed the side effects to be minor in the vast majority of applications, and they are definitely dose related. The Botulinum Toxin administered in the case of squint treatments is heavily diluted. Some of the reported side effects have included flu-like symptoms, pain at the site of injection, headaches, and muscle weakness, but these are usually mild and transient. In addition, adjustable stitches are used for squint surgery in adults. The operation is usually done under general anaesthesia and some stitches are not permanently tied. If the squint is still present after surgery, local anaesthetic drops are given and the stitches adjusted until the eyes are in the correct position. "This is a relatively new development and a really helpful tool to help the surgeon to fine tune surgery," says Bentley.

The type and amount of surgery to perform for a particular squint demands an accurate preoperative decision and necessitates meticulous surgical planning and accurate prediction of surgical outcome. "The surgical aims are realignment of the eye muscles where necessary to achieve satisfactory function and appearance," says Bentley.
Respect at some point also means never underestimating the capability and limitations of each one. Love in the relationship will not grow, but remains stunted without respect. With love, there is respect, and with respect there is also love. Really, how much do you love someone as much as you respect him?

Click Here to Find Out More About Healing a Broken Heart

Seeing the real personality of each one is part of the relationship on a deeper sense. You will both discover what are your flaws, bad habits and even your immaturities. Knowing the flaws is not the reason to leave the relationship behind, but it is more of a test to us as to how respect in relationship can be applied in between the differences as couple. So don't allow disrespect to happen in the relationship especially on times when you feel you know each other well. Earning the respect of our partners and vice versa is really essential as respect always comes with love.

1. Do not pretend as somebody; Be REAL

Being real gives an indication to your partner that you are sincere with your words and actions. Do not ever suddenly transform yourself in order to please anyone and mostly your partner; being YOU is enough to actually please your partner. As such, when this happens respect follows.

2. Respect happens when you do and practice it

The first thing you can do is to gain respect from yourself before respecting others. The initiative of respect should only come from you and not to somebody. The logic here is that when you are not respecting yourself, do not expect that your partner will respect you. Think of your acts.

3. Give your efforts for the sake of the relationship

It doesn't mean here that the partner alone will put an effort to maintain the relationship that both of you have established. Two parties have to be involved on either saving or reaching out the damaged relationship. Do not allow your partner to think of you as slowly fading out in the relationship. Respect will be out of the picture when you are always passive.
4. Be attractive

Being interesting to your partner doesn't mean you have to look good by putting heavy make-up. It means that what you were to him or her before, you should be the same even now. So, when you were sweet, witty and respectful as ever, make him feel that you are still the same.
5. Learn to be self-determining and be TRUE

Being independent means you know how to decide for your own and can be able to find ways and means to live on Remember, the most respected person is the one who knows what to do without guidance from someone.

Honesty always comes with respect as far as the relationship is concerned. It is with honesty that you are able to share all your views, opinions, feelings and sentiments to your partner which in turn giving him the respect you have always been desiring.
6. Find time for yourself
Learn to be independent while loving your partner as this allows more room for respect. Learn to appreciate yourself, love what you do and be happy always.

7. Listen from your heart
To listen means you are allowing the partner's thoughts and feelings to be absorbed and felt by you. As such, listening is about making way for expressions of feelings and will be able to get through the thought of it as a way for respecting each other's view.

How to Heal a Broken Heart
Respect in relationship is applicable to all, be it at home, school, work, etc. The word respect is everywhere, but it can only be felt by the people who preserves it, and use it for peace. On the other note, respect is one reason why a relationship lasts. Respect is best felt when done rather than just said. In every relationship, showing respect is a learned process that cannot be achieved overnight. Respect gives you time to grow and to love more than yourself

The media industries have been on the verge of criticism for their negative effects on children. With respect to children, we highlight the significance, importance, and meaning of substance in mediating the impact of television on academic attainment and cognitive skills. In the current humankind we have permitted the media as the most important touch of influence. The media has become the most commanding, powerful, and influential tool. Regrettably, it does not at all times teach constructive lessons to our kids. It provides a chance for kids to distort veracity into erroneous belief by use of sources, such as television together with several electrical gadgets considered essential. Today, media has become so powerful to a degree of even becoming the alternative parent of the children (Roberts et al., 2005). A child refers to a young person (a girl or a boy) between the ages of birth to puberty. Media is defined as various means of communication, for instance, radio, television, and newspapers plus other different varieties of public information delivery.
Exposure

Young kids of the age between zero and six spend an average of about two hours daily utilizing media screens (movies, computer, and televisions). Televisions are as well usually available in kids bedrooms, with infants (19%), 2-3years old (9%), 4 to 6 years old (43%), and 68% of kids eight years and above having a television in their personal bedrooms (Roberts et al., 2005). Therefore, children's exposure to television has enormously amplified in the recent years. Several researches have established an informal connection between exposure to aggression on television and the aggressive conduct in children. Other study has indicated the connection between kids' media use and obesity, deterioration in academic achievement, increased isolation, and possible exposure to racial and gender stereotypes, amongst other issues. A number of studies have discovered that parents do not restrict their kids' media utilization, and that they underrate the time their children spend watching television (Abell, 2001).

Negative Impacts That Television Has On Young Children

Children are affected psychological as the portion of the brain called basal ganglia tends to become too active when an individual watches television. This makes the body to respond by producing dopamine chemical and as more of this chemical dopamine is released, very less neurotransmitters remain available to do any other function of the body (Nicely, 2006). Awkward cartoons impact negatively on the children, these children are incapable of responding unconsciously to these cartoons, and children who watch aggressive cartoons show decreases in self regulation measure (Gentile and Walsh, 2002). Again, children who watch aggressive cartoons with a lot of aggression can possible engage in violent behavior than those children who do not. For instance a child surprises his family by unexpectedly expressing hostility and fear to ‘black people' immediately after watching this scene in cartoon together with his family, describing the scene as frightening where a black slave was constantly whipped. He therefore, concluded that an individual must have been a very dreadful person to be ruthlessly punished, thereby becoming very scary. He judged him exclusively by the most obvious characteristics in the scene that made his pain contored face and dark skin, appear scary and evil at the same time (Abell, 2001).

Television advertisements teach children to become consumers even before reaching the age of three, a study was carried out and revealed that the longer time a kid spends viewing television programs, the more frequently they ask their parents to purchase them products they have seen on the commercial advertisement. Commercial adverts found in television and other electrical media, such as music videos, print, movies, internet, and computer games, describe how safe it is to utilize tobacco products, promote consumption of other unhealthy foods as well as sanitizing violence (Nicely, 2006). Therefore television advertising has a great effect on current children, ranging from logos, songs, to characters. Advertisers always keep in mind their target market. Scramble for competitive market advantage causes the advertiser to target children, whereas the effect may be a problem to most of adults, the impact of the similar information to children is far reaching and quite devastating (Gentile et al., 2004). Television adverting has a number of ways to entice the individual to buy their services and products. The companies involved in advertising do surround a particular target market, such as children, thereby sinking their teeth into the children's minds. This in turn makes the children manipulative thus developing a desire for their services or products. Via television, magazine, and cartoons children are manipulated by masked, concealed, and obscured messages, where they are shown how a particular product can advance their class by making them be envied by all their peers (Gentile and Walsh, 2002).

Children who watch horror shows and movies may perhaps encompass psychological or emotional problems, younger children as well as toddlers who often watch horror movies, involving violent films and television shows are most likely to develop sleep disorders, aggressiveness, anxiety, and self endangering behaviors. Female and male representation in a certain television program or a video game can send destructing information to both girls and boys (Gentile et al., 2004) Where boys may attempt to achieve the masculine concept that is presented in the program, such as wrestling, as a result there self actualization and esteem will affected when they will be incapable of attaining the idea in the subsequent program. Furthermore, women are taught that gender demand is treasured above all given the unrestrained objectification of feminine characters in the game or a program (Barkham, 2009). These television programs and games will make the boy to develop unattainable expectations for females and even learn that it is widely acceptable to treat a girl, a woman, or a female in a disrespectfully way. At the same moment, learning how to link muscles and violence with what it takes to be man. Television, magazines, music videos, and video games contain harmful impact. The way girls are portrayed in the media can result into lack of self confidence with their bodies, depression, as well as eating disorders. These images also impact negatively on the healthy growth of girls (Murray, 2008).

Much of television watching for children of all age group impact negatively on their readiness for school and academic achievement, low reading ability, vocabularies, and poor grades are highly associated with much of television intake by kids. In addition to multi tasking and media usage, this may possibly contribute to children paying less devoted concentration to their school work (Ehsan et al., 2008). For instance, a study carried out in New Zealand indicated that television watching adolescence and childhood is linked to poor academic performance by the age of twelve. That is why several experts have said that for academic progress and success of your kid television set must be turned off.

Childhood obesity is yet another trouble associated with television, this because food adverts are shown after every five minutes thereby exposing children to junk food with every clack of a television remote (Barkham, 2009). This manipulation is quite clear however exceedingly rewarding. Children with overweight conditions have tripled since 1960. This condition is almost becoming an epidemic especially in developed countries, such as the United States of America. The unfortunate thing is that 80% of these overweight children and adolescents will remain with similar condition even in the adulthood (Media Awareness Network, 2009). Television also exposes each and everything to young children, the programs in television can show kids information or programs what their parents may possibly never wanted them know. An example of these television shows is ‘Father Knows Best' in this show young kids perhaps let in enormous secret meant for adults or their parents (Media Awareness Network, 2009).

Domestic violence is a common term within social discourse and this is believed to be substantially attributed to its frequent occurrence. The term has come to almost be synonymously linked to men beating women. Roughly, estimates in the United States alone suggest that close to two million women are terrorized and violated by male partners, predominantly husbands. The nature of violence ranges from brutal physical abuse, cold emotional wars and sexual violence. Increasing reports of domestic violence turned to death are reported widely in the media across all the continents (Capell & Heiner, 1990). Psychology studies suggest that men use violence against women in their pursuit of control. Other forms of domestic violence abound within all type of couple relationships including cohabiting, dating relationships, marital, opposite and currently same gender relationships. Due to the broad nature of domestic violence, this study will attempt to look at the effects of such violence to kids as they develop to adolescence and young adulthood. There is an increasing evidence of young children who are victims of witnessing or being involved in such violence. It is a common belief in Psychology that exposure to domestic violence contributes significantly to social, cognitive, emotional and physical dysfunctions among victims.
Target Group and Issue

For the purpose of this study, children and young adults will be analyzed as the most vulnerable lot that gets caught up in repeated case of domestic violence. Historical evidence suggests that domestic violence is not a new phenomenon. Men and women in intimate relationships have in the past fought, battered and engaged in emotional confrontations against each other for a longtime. When such violence has occurred in the past, the partners in the relationships were seen as the victims while the children were simply ignored unless when hurt in the confrontation. They have hence been silent victims of violence and this placed them at a disadvantage since no attention was accorded to such victims. Children are normally unintended victims of violence though there is significant evidence to show that they are normally present during times of violence. Children witness of violence in psychology is defined as the physical presence of a child within visual distance when the violence occurred. A child who witness domestic violence in most cases is a credible witness and there is possibility of the child taking in all the details because of the emotional attachment to the parties involved. Studies in Psychology suggests that the core of the evidence that a child remembers of violence is the central and most gory act such as the blast of a gun or the plunge of a knife and the eventual consequences such as screaming and blood spurting. Evidence of children witnessing murder of their parents during violence is not very common. According to Peled (1993) most children are more prone to witness beatings which sometimes are brutal and fatal. There is an aspect of children witnessing violence where they may not observe but hear the ensuing commotions among partners. For instance, a child sleeping on a bedroom next to the parent can vividly hear their fights when shouting to each other. According to Ganley & Schechter (1996), children may experience adult violence through other ways which include; holding a child in hostage in attempts to lure the mother, using the child as a weapon or defense during violence, threatening a child, or involving the child to spy either on the mother or the father. Other additional ways include; psychological insults and abuses like when one partner keeps blaming one parent for the woes in the family in the presence of the kids or even more crudely, when abusive parents force kids to watch their violence acts. The aftermath of violence has also been recorded as possible causes of trauma, like when a child is forced to assist an injured mother or call the police to come and intervene. An attempt to explore witnessing of violence by kids hence is wide and should include all physical participation and the trauma associated with the aftermaths.

Literature review

Domestic violence in psychology is a wide area. This study will concentrate on the commonly known aspects of the vice such as fights, verbal abuse, fatalities that leads to death and aspects of threats in a family setting. The children considered in this study would basically include children above age 3 who are assumed to be able to witness and remember incidents. The study will encompass the age group between ages to young adulthood, a period in which a significant number of young persons may be living within the premises of their parents. When violence occurs within such settings, evidence in psychology suggests that it contributes significantly to problems in their different stages in growth (Capell & Heiner, 1990). For the sake of justifying this study, an attempt will be made to look at quantitative data that can be a pointer to the level of domestic violence and more importantly, the possible numbers of young people who witness such violence.

Statistics on numbers of children exposed to Domestic Violence

Significant number of children experience adult violence. Statistics widely used are based on studies done in 1984 and 1992. In 1984, according to Carson (1984), his study estimated 3.3 million children at the risk of being exposed to domestic violence. By then, it was estimated that that around 3 million US households were involved a domestic violence case within a year. The author of those statistics however pointed that the findings could have underestimated since they only cited violence that could have caused injury. A significant note in this finding was that economic position in a great way determines possibility of violence with poor families most likely to be involved in violence. Also, poor families most likely have more number of kids compared to relatively economic able families. A survey conducted in 1990 (Strauss & Geles, 1990) had asked adults whether they had been witnesses to domestic violence during their youth. Based on this study, statistics released in 1992 by Strauss (1992) estimated that over 10 million young adults may have been exposed to domestic violence in any given year. The study also statistically estimated that over a third of American adolescents could have witnessed violence, some being present in several instances. According to Silvern et al. (1995) who had carried out a sample survey of college students found out that 118 out of 287 ladies and 85 out of 263 men had witnessed cases of domestic violence. These figures correspond to 41.1% and 32.3% for women and men respectively. Those surveys, though not comprehensive due to their limitations in time and geographical space, are great indications that the numbers of children who witness domestic violence are indeed catastrophic. It is to be pointed out here that children are also exposed to violence in other spectrum in the society which combined with their witness of domestic violence contributes significantly to the way they grow. Sources that have been cited as other possible sources of violence include violence within the community. This may be in the form of street gangs and other related violence that happens within the society. There is also considerable violence portrayed by the media which registers in the mind of growing children. According to Eth & Pynoos (1995) 10-20% of children witnessed homicide cases in Los Angeles within one year. According to Jenkins (1993) 25% of children who participated in a survey affirmed that they had witnessed either a murder or a shooting within their neighborhoods. Another survey among young people in Southside Chicago revealed that approximately 47% of youths interviewed were witnesses to stabbing and over two thirds (approx. 60%) had witnessed a shooting (Jenkins& Bell, 1994). There are also other significant studies which points to a possibility of more young people being exposed to violence. According to Eth & Pynoos (1985) behaviors associated with witnessing violence among young people include depression (Freeman et al., 2003), high levels of stress and acting out behavior (Osofsky et al., 1993). According to Durant et al. (1994) young people who witness crimes are more prone to develop and adopt use of violent, mean and aggressive tendencies. A study among school going children revealed that boys were more prone to witness violence in the community as compared to girls (O'Keefe, 1994). This study also suggested that well mannered children who portrayed stable behavior were less prone to witness cases of violence.

Increase in technology in today's world has significantly exposed children to accessing information from a wide variety of sources. A growing number of children today are on the internet and there is no limit to how much information they can access. According to Paik et al. (2002) young people exposed to media violence portray aggressive, uncouth and violent behavior. An aspect in this study show that men are more palpable in developing violent behavior as compared to women but both men and women exposed to movies and TV violence are likely to develop aggressive behaviors. In discussing the effect of violence on growing children's behavior, this study suggests that the role of all types of violence a child may be exposed to should be analyzed.

Are we parents attentive to whether our children have stopped coming to us with their problems? Are we aware that they have ceased coming to us to whine and complain? Are we aware that they seem to be evasive in their communication and non-forthcoming? Do we notice any strange behavior? Do we realize that they begin to seek attention not the usual or proper way?

We also wish to challenge parents to appraise the situation regarding the way they interact with their children. We wish that parents examine pertinent questions regarding how their children's wellbeings are being taken care of.

It is rather disturbing that many parents are not vigilant on the activities and struggles of their children and are therefore oblivious to the troubles their children may be in. And, they do not seem to understand their children and hence not being able to empathized with them.

In order to understand the seriousness of the problem, we need to assess the situation, decide on the remedial measures and take the necessary measures to avoid the unnecessarily dangerous results.

Here, we shall approach our discussion on three fronts:

(i) Study the situations to ascertain why children have stopped bringing their troubles to their parents

(ii) Pinpoint and investigate the reasons that discourage our children coming to us with their troubles.

(iii) Recommend remedial measures to correct the situations.

In our dealing with our children, we have to remind ourselves to respond to them in ways that assure them that it is to their benefits and protection for them to approach us whenever they encounter any uncertainty or difficulty.

Section 1: Let's Face These Pointed Questions

Here are some pointed questions for us to grapple with so as to assist us to better sieve out the likely reasons that dissuade our children from coming to us with their predicaments:

1. Do our children consider us to be their best friends and trusted confidants?

2. Do we show due respect to their ideas?

3. Are we honest with them regarding our own unease, feelings and faith?

4. Do we show our openness when listening to what they have to say?

5. Do we show we enjoy their sharing with us?

6. Do we walk the talk ourselves?

7. Do we display genuine interest in our children’s delight and plight that they share with us?

8. Do we exhibit our delight when they spend their time with us?

9. Do we provide the vital support and aid when they share their troubles with us?

10. Do we sneer at our children’s silly fears and worries?

11. Do we reach out to them when they have difficulties in handling their failure, anguish and misery?

12. Are we with them during their depressing moments?

13. Do we show kindness and firmness when they make?

14. Are we attentive to the quandary that our children may be in?

15. Do our behaviors make us suitable models for our children?

Section 2: Examine Causes

It is imperative that we honestly study our behavior to dig out what mistakes we might have committed so that our children may be more encouraged to come back to us whenever they face any problem.

Although it is difficult to pin-point the precise reasons that discourage our children from discussing their feelings and anxiety with us, there are many common causes that we can scrutinize to enable us to develop appropriate curative plans.
Here are some of the common explanations that discourage our children from sharing their fears:

1. We have not extended to our children our empathy for the problems they face

If our children do not feel connected to us, they may feel that everything we offer is not relevant to their problems and will not be acceptable.

2. Our advice is "lose-lose" to our children

When we give advice, if it proves to be correct, we get the credit, but when the advice turns out to be not successful, they get the blame for not being able to carry it out successfully.

3. They feel stupid when we give them instructions

When the instructions come from us, they do not feel they have ownership. They may also feel that we think they are unable to develop their own solutions. We take on the position of the experts who have the knowledge and wisdom and our children are treated as if they do not have sufficient knowledge or skills to deal with the problems. They may feel insulted and hostility creeps in between parents and children.

4. We Do Not Provide Solutions that are Relevant and Appropriate

This can occur when we assume that we already know what the real issues are before obtaining the details and examining them.

5. We Do Not Really Understand Our Children’s Concerns

If we do not spend enough time and effort to try and understand the things that trouble the minds of our children, how can we know the real problems that affect them?

A typical example may be like this: Our children come to us to express their anxiety over the relationship they have with their friend. What they are really concerned about may be how to salvage the relationship. We, on the other hand, may suggest that they stay away from these friends. We are prodding them to damage a relationship that they want to restore so desperately!

6. We do not appreciate the efforts of our children
When we denigrate their efforts to cope with their problems, they will be discouraged to make efforts in solving future problems.
7. Our children do not need our solution

Sometimes our kids just want to share their problems with us and do not want or need advice from us at all. Any attempt to throw in our solutions will be detrimental to our children's self-esteem.

Section 3. Recommended Pointers for Consideration

Now that we have considered various possible causes that could discourage our children from sharing their problems with us, I will provide three action pointers for consideration:

1. Understand the Real Issues

We and our children have to take the problems to identify and analyze the crusts of the problems. Encourage them to identify and weigh the various options available. Very often, the solutions become clear.

2. Demonstrate Empathy and Understanding

We must learn to show evidence of our empathy with our children for the problems and difficulties they face so that they feel they are with us and we are with them. It is important to give our children the feeling that we are with them - and not just physically, but also emotionally. In this way, they will be more willing to disclose their true feelings and thoughts and wisdom and be receptive to what we have to offer.

3. Create "Win-Win” Situations

Whenever possible, we want to create situations that are "win-win" for them. For example, we encourage them to develop their own solutions and let them take the credit when they succeed. And they take credit for the admirable efforts, if they fail.

I believe that with careful thoughts and determinations, we can help our children to realize that it's always good for them to open their hearts and share their problems to us.

Nagging and crippling arthritis pain can continue day after day. How much happier would you be if you could stop your arthritis pain right now and feel great all day? Knowing the nature of the disease can really bring you the right answers.

What is arthritis?

Arthritis comprises over 100 different diseases and conditions. The word arthritis means "joint inflammation". When joints are inflamed, it causes pain and usually also limits movement of the joints that are affected. For many people, arthritis pain has a large impact on their life. Arthritis is second only to heart disease as a cause of work disability. Arthritis limits everyday activities such as walking, dressing and bathing for more than 16 million Americans. Each year, arthritis results in 750,000 hospitalizations and 36 million outpatient visits. Arthritis is not just an old person's disease. Nearly two-thirds of people with arthritis are younger than 65 years including nearly 300,000 children. Arthritis affects children and people of all racial and ethnic groups but is more common among women and older adults.

The disease can affect different parts of the body. Two of the most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease in which the joint lining becomes inflamed as part of the body's immune system activity. RA is one of the most serious and disabling types, affecting mostly women. Rheumatoid arthritis is two to three times more common in women than in men and generally strikes between the ages of 20 and 50. Both sides of the body are usually affected at the same time. Symptoms of RA differ from person to person but can generally include:

Joint tenderness, warmth, and swelling.

Pain and stiffness lasting for more than 1 hour in the morning or after a long rest.

Joint inflammation in the wrist and finger joints closest to the hand.

Fatigue, an occasional fever, and a general sense of not feeling well.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis. It is a degenerative joint disease in which the cartilage that covers the ends of bones in the joint deteriorates, causing pain and loss of movement as bone begins to rub against bone. OA commonly affects the joints of the fingers, knees, hips, and spine. Osteoarthritis is more common in older people because they have been using their joints longer. Using the joints to do the same task over and over or simply using them over time can make osteoarthritis worse. Younger people can also get osteoarthritis. Athletes are at risk because they use their joints so much. People who have jobs that require the same movement over and over are also at risk. Injuries to a joint increase the risk of arthritis in the joint later on. Excess weight can accelerate arthritis in the knees, hips and spine. The most common symptom of Osteoarthritis is pain in the affected joint(s) after repetitive use. Joint pain is usually worse later in the day. There can be swelling, warmth, and creaking of the affected joints. Symptoms of OA may greatly vary. Some patients can be debilitated by their symptoms. On the other hand, others may have remarkably few symptoms in spite of dramatic degeneration of the joints apparent on x-rays. Symptoms also can be intermittent.
These 2 forms have very different causes, risk factors, and effects on the body, yet they often share a common symptom - persistent joint pain.

What are the causes of arthritis?

Primary OA is mostly related to aging. With aging, the water content of the cartilage increases and the protein makeup of cartilage degenerates. Repetitive use of the joints over the years irritates and inflames the cartilage, causing joint pain and swelling. Eventually, cartilage begins to degenerate by flaking or forming tiny crevasses. Inflammation of the cartilage can also stimulate new bone outgrowths (spurs) to form around the joints. Sometimes osteoarthritis follows an injury to a joint. For example, a young person might hurt his knee badly playing soccer. Then, years after the knee has apparently healed, he might get arthritis in his knee joint.

RA is an autoimmune disease. This means the body's natural immune system does not operate as it should; it attacks healthy joint tissue, initiating a process of inflammation and joint damage. RA is a type of chronic arthritis that occurs in joints on both sides of the body (such as hands, wrists or knees). This symmetry helps distinguish RA from other types of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs most frequently in the 30-50 age group, although can start at any age. It is strongly associated with the HLA marker DR4 - hence Family history is an important risk factor. The disease affects Females:Males in a 4:1 ratio.
Other conditions can also cause arthritis. Some include:
Gout, in which crystals build up in the joints. It usually affects the big toe.

Lupus , in which the body's defense system can harm the joints, the heart, the skin, the kidneys, and other organs.

Viral hepatitis ,in which an infection of the liver can cause arthritis.

What can you do about it?

Some people may worry that arthritis means they won't be able to work or take care of their children and their family. Others think that you just have to accept things like arthritis.

While there is not yet a cure for arthritis, much can be done today to reduce pain and boost joint function. Learning how to manage pain over the long term is essential to maintaining a good quality of life. There are things you can do to keep the damage from getting worse. They might also make you feel better. Here are some simple things to do:

Lose weight if you're overweight

Exercise regularly for short periods. Going for a walk every day will help, too.

Use canes and other special devices to protect your joints.

Avoid lifting heavy things.

Don't pull on objects to move them-push them instead

Use heat or cold to reduce pain or stiffness.

The pain and disability that accompany arthritis can be decreased through early diagnosis and appropriate management. So if you have persistent symptoms lasting more than several days - go see your doctor. The doctor will examine you and may take x rays (pictures) of your bones or joints to decide if you have arthritis and what kind you have.

After the doctor knows what kind of arthritis you have, he or she will talk with you about the best way to treat it. The doctor may give you a prescription for medicine that will help with the pain, stiffness, and inflammation.
The good news is that now there is a way to stop your pain with a medication. Celebrex is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), specifically a COX-2 inhibitor, which relieves pain and swelling (inflammation). It represents a huge breakthrough in the treatment of pain, inflammation, and stiffness of arthritis. Celebrex is believed to fight pain and inflammation by inhibiting the effect of a natural enzyme called COX-2. Unlike the older medications, however, it does not interfere with a similar substance, called COX-1, which exerts a protective effect on the lining of the stomach.Celebrex doesn't cause the stomach bleeding and ulcers that traditional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) might.
By: Burrel Lee Wilks III

There are many reasons why younsters--and that includes boys and an increasing number of girls--join gangs. When you see your child falling under this unwelcome gang influence, here are some essential steps:

1) Communicate, communicate, communicate. You cannot over-communicate. Open the door, and make sure it stays open. Be a constant positive force in your child's life
2) Positive reinforcement. Most kids are good kids, they just get troubled and lose their way. Leave him with tape-recorder running inside his head, that he can't turn off. Tell him that he's a good kid; to hang on in there. that you love him and believe in him, over and over and over. Give him the "tools" he needs to find his own way home. You will need to discipline him, but always stress the positive.
3) Find a mentor. If your child's father can't be that mentor, then look for a strong male friend, or relative or even a volunteer from a mentoring organization. Get him involved in organizations, sports clubs, social clubs or church groups, places he can find support and strong peer support, as well as a 'coach' or male role model.

Kids join gangs for any number of complex reasons. Before you condemn him, try to better understand what's driving your child down this path.
