NASER MESTARIHI To Release New Album "1987"

Qatar-based rocker, Naser Mestarihi, will be releasing his new album "1987" within a few weeks.

The solo musician recently performed in Dubai, UAE in-support of the album at The Music Room with support from local acts Nikotin and Kicksound.

2 new tracks off the release are available for streaming online "Exodus Highway" and the title track.

HOUR OF PENANCE Announce European Tour, Band Begins Writing Material For New Album

Italian death metallers HOUR OF PENANCE will embark on a European tour this fall alongside Australian tech-death act Psycroptic and UK death outfit Dyscarnate. Prior to the tour -- which kicks off in Belgium on Sept. 20 -- the band will be seen appearing at several of the summer's heaviest international festivals. All upcoming dates are listed below.

Guitarist Giulio Moschini commented: “We’re extremely happy to tour again with our friends in Psycroptic and Dyscarnate and most of all to play again in Europe after the successful tour we did with Cannibal Corpse, Devildriver and The Black Dahlia Murder in February. For the first time, Hour of Penance will also play in Ireland! Be there!“

HOUR OF PENANCE are also excited to reveal that they have begun working on their next release, expected out in early 2014.

Moschini commented: “Since the release of (2012's) 'Sedition,' the band has played over 150 shows throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. We have had great times on the road and would like to thank all the fans who came to our shows and bought 'Sedition,' as well as all the people we worked with during this year. This was without a doubt a big source of inspiration for us, and while at home or between shows, we started collecting ideas for our next record. Even if what we have right now are only demos of the new songs, we can already say that if you loved 'Sedition' and our past albums, you’ll go crazy with this new record. We worked our asses off and meticulously worked on improving our music once again, so we’re very glad to announce that a new album will be recorded after this tour!"

Guitarist Paolo Pieri added: “We’re currently working on the lyrics and vocals for the new songs. This album will be more varied and brutal than everything we've done so far. The new material sounds totally fresh and will be a bone-crushing feast for old and new fans of Hour of Penance.”

Interview With NADEEM And JOHN (ANURYZM)

UAE-based progressive metal band, ANURZYM will be performing on June 7th at the upcoming Dubai Rock Festival (taking place at the Dubai World Trade Center Arena).

Back in October 2011, the band released their debut album "Worm's Eye View" with former Opeth drummer Martin Lopez behind the kit as a session member. The album featured 8 highly diverse tracks with an array of influences (a fusion of full-on grooves, speed picking, and soaring melodies) which was praised by fans and critics alike.

Front man Nadeem Bibby and lead guitarist/founding member John Bakhos recently discussed with us via email their upcoming performance at DRF, their latest album and work on its follow-up, among other topics in the following interview:

Thanks a lot for this opportunity, ANURYZM will be performing at the upcoming Dubai Rock Festival (headlined by guitar icon, Yngwie Malmsteen). Representing the local UAE scene on the bill. Are you guys excited to be performing at the festival?

Nadeem: Yes we are really excited to share the stage with a different genre of bands than we are used to. It’s always good to have new experiences and I myself am looking forward to sharing the stage with Dark Tranquillity.

Your latest album "Worm's Eye View" was released last year through Melodic Revolution Records. The album has received rave reviews from online media and fans alike. Can you tell us about the lyrical themes it explores?

John: The title ‘Worm’s Eye View’ cannot really be construed without looking at the artwork on the album. The idea was to have a bird’s eye view with a twist, with the worm replacing the bird. The word ‘worm’ in itself gives a feeling of disgust and loathing when you hear it. And by looking at the artwork, you understand that we’ve portrayed the philosophical term for ‘worm’ to be as the suited man conspiring to create chaos amidst his comfort.

Nadeem: Exactly. You will find that idea to be very prominent on the record. We’ve explored a variety of themes such as personal loss, inequality in the voting system, assassination, self- awareness, confidence, being one’s own worst enemy etc… Some people may already know that I am a huge fan of Sci Fi and Anime so I tried to bring some of those elements in as well to match John’s views on the political influence of man, particularly in this region. And as a result, we took this opportunity to deliver a strong message of the disappointed modern day Middle Easterners who may not be able or may not have the means to express themselves through art.

ANURYZM Live @ The Music Room (Dubai, UAE)

"Worm's Eye View" features former OPETH drummer, Martin Lopez, on drums. As well as Textures keyboardist, Uri Dijk (who provides guest synths on the album). What was the experience like collaborating with such respected names in the international metal scene?

John: It was a fairly straightforward experience since we were on a friendly basis to begin with. The guys were very professional and really understood the music and what we were trying to achieve. Sure it was an honor to work with them and I’m happy that they feel the same way.

The album was recorded at MNK studios with the band's own John Bakhos and Miltiadis Kyvernitis. How long did the writing/recording process for Worm's Eye View take? What gear did you use to get the powerful sound achieved on the album?

John: I had started working on the tracks back in 2003, but it wasn’t until 2010 that I met up with Nadeem and we had decided to seriously make the record. That’s when we reviewed all the music and made some significant changes to push it forward. You can thank Miltiadis for the powerful sound that you hear. It was a lot of long hours and late nights but it paid off. He’s a great engineer and producer and we wouldn’t be here today without him.

ANURYZM was formed in 2003, but due to line-up changes it took the band some time to release a full length album. Did you face any setbacks during the process of working on Worm's Eye View?

Nadeem: The only setbacks we had here during WEV were lack of time and money needed to record, and having to drive to Dubai from Abu Dhabi so many times at ungodly hours of the night, only to head back for a few hours’ sleep before going to our day jobs.

I know that these experiences aren’t unique to us, but in our case we wanted to give the album the time it deserved and achieve the world class quality and sound that we did. I think the major challenge is probably that the environment here does not cater to artists in terms of facilities and opportunities.

What is ANURZYM up to now? Are you working on the follow up to Worm's Eye View? Will the band be working with guest musicians on its next release?

John: Yes we are working very hard on the follow-up to WEV. We have a title, concepts and track names and most tracks are finished but I can’t reveal any details yet. You’ll have to wait and find out about guest musicians too. What I can tell you is that it sounds powerful, aggressive, melodic, and packed with intense guitar riffs... It’s Anuryzm on steroids!

Nadeem: I’m excited about this new record! I think that when we first came out with WEV we didn’t really know what to expect. We had no presumptions about how people would react to it. But, fast forwarding to right now, I can say that we have an absolute blinder of a record coming out that I can see as being highly appealing to our ever-growing global fan base and generally to people who understand rock and metal music. We just want to deliver records, get ideas off our chest and make ourselves and our fans happy. Very simple, everything else is just an opportunity to connect and entertain people.

System of A Down bassist Shavo Odadjian posted on his official Facebook page (just a few hours ago) that the band wants to release a new album but front man Serj Tankian is holding them back, stating:

"ok..... Ill come clean.. Its not us(meaning Daron,John Or Shavo!! Its Sej, who doesn' want to do a new album!!!! so please stop harassing us about it!!! We are just waiting for SERJ! Now He might hate me for exposing the truth but i Had too.. Sorry folks!!! we're trying to get a new album out, its just not passing Serj's RULES! . Kinda funny, since we started the band and now he's holding us back!! I think we should should release another album again??? As for me.. I'm ready to release one with someone who wants to be the singer of SYSTEM. not soeome we have to beg to be a part of SYSTEM!! So with that in mind, what do you guys w should do? Just remember, Hes been holding us back for 7 years so far.. wanna wait another $-5 years? or shall we release a record without Serj? u tell us?????"

It looks like something is happening in the System of a Down camp. Could the band release a new album without Serj Tankian? Would that even work? (knowing how crazy SOAD fans can be). It's all up to speculation right now, but Shavo is definitely pushing for a full System of A Down comeback.

TIM LAMBESIS' Defense Blames Steriod Use For The Charges Against Him

In the latest developments in the Tim Lambesis case, where he is accused of "murder-for-hire" charges against his estranged wife, Meggan Lamebsis, the court has decided to set Tim's bail at $2 million (deducting $1 million from the previous amount). His defense attorney has also blamed his steroid use for the "murder-for-hire" charges against him.

"During today's hearing (which was initially scheduled for 1:30 p.m. but was postponed to 3:00 p.m.) the singer's defense attorney, Tom Warwick, blamed Lambesis' steroid use for the alleged murder-for-hire plot. He also revealed that Lambesis is going through steroid withdrawal while in custody."

"Lambesis' family is unable to make bail, so he will remain in jail, Warwick said. The lawyer had asked for bail of $250,000."

Tim Lambesis' defense attorney, Anthony Salerno, recently told Artisan News that he suspicious of the circumstances of Lambesis' arrest and believed Meggan's family could have been involved in setting him up. "Tim's wife's brother, I understand, is a San Diego Sheriff's deputy," he said. "I think I would be remiss if I didn't fully explore that, 'cause that is a litte bit… it's at the bare minimum very coincidental, and it may be more than that."

As I lay Dying canceled their upcoming tour with Killswitch Engage due to these recent events, and posted the following statement on their official site:

In light of recent events, As I Lay Dying will unfortunately not be taking part in the upcoming tour with Killswitch Engage. Given the circumstances, we feel that it is best for the band to be off the road while the current situation gets sorted. We'd like to thank all of our fans for their ongoing support at this difficult time.

Slayer announced a few hours ago the official details for Jeff Hanneman's memorial celebration, which will take place at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on May 23:

"The Jeff Hanneman Memorial Celebration will take place on Thursday, May 23 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles from 3:30 - 7:30PM. Hanneman passed away on May 2 at the age of 49.

The Memorial Celebration will be free and open to the public on a first-come, first-in basis (subject to venue capacity). All ages are welcome, and paid parking will be available around the venue.

Jeff Hanneman helped shape Slayer's uncompromising thrash-metal sound as well as an entire genre of music. His riffs of fury and punk-rock attitude were heard in the songs he wrote, including Slayer classics "Angel of Death," "Raining Blood," "South of Heaven" and "War Ensemble." Hanneman co-founded Slayer with fellow-guitarist Kerry King, bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo in Huntington Park, CA in 1981. For more than 30 years, Hanneman was the band member who stayed out of the spotlight, rarely did interviews, amassed an impressive collection of World War II memorabilia, was with his wife Kathy for nearly three decades, shut off his phone and went incommunicado when he was home from tour, did not want to be on the road too late into any December as Christmas was his favorite holiday, and, from the time he was about 12 years old, woke up every, single day with one thing on his mind: playing the guitar.

It was once suggested to Slayer that if they would write "just one mainstream song that could get on the radio," they would likely sell millions of records and change the commercial course of their career, similar to what had happened to Metallica with 1993's "Enter Sandman." Jeff was the first to draw a line of integrity in the sand, replying, "We're going to make a Slayer record. If you can get it on the radio, fine, if not, then fuck it."

Jeff Hanneman passed away on May 2nd due to liver failure; news of his passing is still sounding through out the metal community.

ANVIL Release Another New Song "Eat Your Words"

Canadian heavy metallers, ANVIL, will be releasing their new album 'Hope in Hell' on May 27th via SPV/Steamhammer Records (Europe) and May 28th via The End Records (North America).

Another new song is available for streaming from the release, titled "Eat Your Words" which you can listen to by clicking here.

SATYRICON Working On New Album, Band To Perform With Norwegian National Opera Chorus

Norwegian extreme metal band, SATYRICON, is currently working on their as-yet untitled new album and follow-up to 2008's "The Age of Nero," scheduled for a late 2013 release.

The band is also planning a performance with the Norwegian National Opera Chorus as part of the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival (official date and info is yet to be revealed).

Frontman Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven had this to say about the new record:

"To me, it sounds very authentic, it's organic-sounding. And in this digital age where music is mostly played through computers, a lot of that analog vibe gets lost in translation when you play music through medias like that, but I still wanna do it because there's nothing quite like it. To me, it just makes everything sound the way it's supposed to sound — it's dynamical; the music is alive, it's not overly compressed, the levels are not pushed. So, musically speaking, it's a very atmospheric record… This record is full of life. There are a lot of surprises here, but I think it's gonna be a record that's gonna help the black metal movement perhaps find a new way for the future"

We got an email earlier about a new video by Oslo, Norway's technical death metal band, Defect Designer; whose members are originally from Siberia.

The fold recently released a new video for the song "When Your Face Doesn't Melt Snowflakes" (which is an epic song title!) that was handled by Nader Sadek, and can be viewed below.

Defect Designer is currently looking for a guitar player based in Oslo, Norway.

COULD MTV BE WORKING ON A SLAYER-THEMED SHOW?

Metal Insider is reporting that MTV has ordered for a new show called "South of Heaven" to enter production. But here's the catch, it's not about Slayer crushing through cities across the world, splattering blood on all the weak. No; It's a docu-series "following the lives of a group of fun loving girlfriends at the best little honky tonk bar in Texas who are working to make their dreams a reality."

Its like someone at MTV wants to see the world burn. It's only a working title; but still, it's like whomever thought of this is attempting to teabag an entire scene.

Puddle Of Mudd Singer Arrested For Domestic Violence

According to TMZ, Puddle of Mudd frontman, Wes Scatlin, was recently arrested for domestic violence against his EX-wife after "police were called to a business in West Hollywood around 3:30 pm after someone reported Scantlin shook his ex-wife and then tried to drag her by the arm or the shirt."

"When cops arrived ... we're told deputies spoke with witnesses and the victim -- and decided to arrest Scantlin for domestic violence.

Scantlin was extremely uncooperative during the arrest witnesses said, "He was very mouthy."

Scatlin is currently in custody and bail has been set at $20,000.
