Brett Deledio puts a new deal on ice

The Herald Sun today is reporting that " Brett Deledio has put contract talks on hold"

This is all kinds of bad news, Deledio is only 24, as a best and fairest winner for the Tigers it feels like he has been around forever. Getting him signed I sure was the number one goal of the off season for the Tigers management.

He is already a life member of the Tigers qaulifying for the honour when he reached 150 AFL games in Round 24 last season.

Deledio is coming into him prime but the Herald Sun is reporting he wants to play finals, this will mean we have to sit around all year just like Geelong and Melbourne had too only to lose their star, I already fear he is gone.

The only thing that will keep Brett at the Tigers is a great start to the season with finals or an act of God, I am not holding my breath.

Richmond to open the Pre-Season Comp

The Tigers will play the opening game of the season again against Carlton (I don't count that silly Sydney derby game a week before) they will also open the pre-season against the Roos.

The AFL announced the schedule for the first round of the pre-season competition today.

The Tigers, Roos and Hawthorn will play each other in the first round of triangular matches under the shortened format for Round 1 introduced last year.

North Melbourne will have to back up after playing Richmond to face the Hawks in the second game, while the Tigers get a break before playing Hawthorn in match three.

Richmond then go to Perth to play Fremantle on March 4th and then down the highway to Simonds Stadium to take on the Cats on March 10th.

Subject to results Richmond will have another game between March 16th and March 18th, I cant see Richmond making it but if we do the NAB grand Final is March 17th.

Pre-Season Updates

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has ruled out recruiting fullback Zac Dawson, who has cut ties with St Kilda.

The Tigers have been linked with a number of key defenders during the off-season, but Hardwick said they were well-stocked in that department, barring injury.

Magpie John McCarthy will train with Richmond in the hope of resurrecting his AFL career.

The Tigers today applied for permission for McCarthy - cut by Collingwood after 18 games in four seasons - to train with the club.

Delisted Demon Addam Maric is also training with Richmond.

The Tigers hit the Tan track on Friday morning, with midfielder Matthew White in his usual position ahead of the field, completing the circuit in just over 13 minutes.

One absentee was forward Jake King, who suffered a knee injury in the International Rules series, but Hardwick said it wasn't a long-term problem.

In an article in the Hearld Sun today Brendan Gale "is confident the Tigers' bold five-year strategic plan is on track"

Richmond will kick off the 2012 membership campaign today, the 2012 slogan will be Roar Pride. Roar Passion. Roar Power.

"We hit our all-time membership record this year of just under 48,000," Gale said yesterday.

The Tiger have also cleared $1.5mil of debt and we finished in 12th place last season, so it all looks like we are headed in the right direction, I guess time will tell.

I do know one thing that is that the best thing to happen to Richmond in the last few years is Brendan Gale, by the time he is finished at Tiger Land his time as an administrator will be far greater than his time as a player.

It is fantastic to see a smart man like him at the helm.

All in all this is a good draw for the Tigers they don't have to play any of the top 4 twice and have 13 games at the MCG and only 2 at Etihad. There is a bit of travel in the middle of the season between rounds 12 and 16 but there is also the bye in there as well.

In what I must say was a shock to me, 25 year old Richmond defender Will Thursfield has announced his retirement.

"There are some other avenues in my life I’m keen to pursue, and I just felt the time was right to step away from AFL football," Thursfield said.

Do you love it or Hate it? Richmond Tigers new logo...

I am really surprised by the fan reaction to the new logo, I knew that the members and fans would come out strong but I like the logo so much I figured it was a bit of a no brainer that it would be liked.

Over all there were 590 comments about the logo on the Richmond Facebook page under the post about the new logo, of course no all of them bad. The internet is the place to hate on just about everything from the safety of the bedroom behind your computer screen, my whole family are Tigers through and through they all like it as do I.

I guess if you happy with something you are less likely to jump up and down about it.

I am happy to hear from people about what they think of the logo, lets just try to be constructive shall we.

A minor exchange between Richmond and Gold Coast

The final pick in the 2011 version of trade week was a rather minor exchange between Richmond and Gold Coast.

The Tigers gave up an end of round one compensation pick (it was given to Adelaide as compensation for losing Nathan Bock to Gold Coast and then on-traded to Richmond for Richard Tambling).

In return, Richmond received a round two compensation pick (it was given to Port Adelaide as compo for losing Nathan Krakouer and then traded back to the Suns) and pick 26 in this year's NAB AFL Draft.

Both of the compensation pick can be used in any of the three drafts from 2012 to 2014.

Mitch Morton traded to Sydney

Mitch Morton has been traded to the Sydney Swans for NAB AFL Draft selection No.79 just over two hours before Monday's 2pm deadline.

Mitch Morton is still only 24 years old but did not appear to be a part of Damien Hardwick's plan playing only 9 senior games during the 2011 season and was stood down mid season for personal reasons.

Richmond traded for Mitch Morton at the end of the 2007 season for the number 37 pick in that draft. Morton won the Michael Roach medal as the leading goal kicker for the club in 2009 with 41 goals. Before that Morton played 71 games for West Coast and Richmond after being drafted by the Eagles in 2004 via the father-son rule.

Deal done! Ivan Maric is a Tiger

Ivan Maric has been traded to the Tigers who have sent pick 37 to St Kilda who in turn have sent Tom Lynch to the Crows.

Richmond Trade Week Update

Well there is not much to update!

The Tigers still hope to get Ivan Maric from the Crows and are still looking to move on Luke McGuane and Daniel Connors but they are not drawing much interest at this stage.

But that being said Steven Morris and pick 15 from Greater Western Sydney has been traded to Richmond for pick 14.

NEW Richmond hard nut Steven Morris says he has set his sights on a Round 1 debut.

Morris was secured by the Tigers after they swapped their pick 14 with the No.15 selection of Greater Western Sydney.

The son of 1973-74 premiership player Kevin was overlooked four years ago as a father-son selection.

After a breakout year with SANFL club West Adelaide, the 22-year-old is likely to be used as a small defender. Parents Kevin and Jan were in Hawaii on holiday yesterday, but Morris said his father was thrilled.

"They were pretty thrilled with the news I would be coming home and playing at the club he played for. It's pretty special for him and me. (Round 1) is definitely the aim," he said.

Morris was overlooked when he got to draft age.

"I probably just wasn't quite good enough at that stage," he said.

"I played TAC Cup right through and I did have some injuries when I was younger with stress fractures.

"I moved over to South Australia to give it a crack and to prove I could make the grade. Four years later it seems to have paid off."

He said he still needed to improve his foot skills but was relishing the chance for a huge pre-season to chip off his rough edges.

Richmond head of football Craig Cameron said the Tigers had already earmarked a role for Morris.

The Tigers made little progress on the deal to lure Adelaide ruckman Ivan Maric but remain confident they will get their man.

Defender Luke McGuane seems unlikely to get to Brisbane despite reports, while rebounding defender Dan Connors drew little interest from rivals.

Similarly, tall defender Luke McGuane would like greater opportunities and a deal would be done for the right price. But he is contracted, so could yet stay.

Matt White and Mitch Morton will both have their names thrown around at trade time.

Nathan Foley's name has been tossed around lately, but he isn't going anywhere. He is contracted for next year according to the club and he is a favourite of coach Damien Hardwick.

I was a very happy Richmond supporter last night when I found out that Trent Cotchin had won the Jack Dyer Medal. We finally got to see Cotchin in every game this year and he showed us all what he could do with an injury free season, two-time winner Brett Deledio and Dustin Martin rounded out the top 3.

The final wash up was:

There was also a big thumbs up to the recruiting department who made the moves to get Shaun Grigg and Bachar Houli down to Tigerland who both finished in the top 10.

Jake King has intervention order against him extended for six months

RICHMOND'S Jake King has denied allegations he threatened a man and his family who have taken out an intervention order against him.

King, 27, fronted Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court this morning and agreed to the order being extended for six months.

But King's lawyer told the court his client denied any wrongdoing and agreed to the order without making any admissions to the allegations made against him.

An intervention order was taken out against King on behalf of the alleged victims earlier this month.

Police investigated the claims but have not charged King with any offence.

The magistrate warned King that the order was not to be taken lightly as any breach could result in severe penalties including jail.

But he acknowledged that there had been no finding of guilt or wrongdoing against him in making the extended order.

Chris Newman celebrated his engagement to Lauren Poulter on Friday night at Riva with some high-profile headline-grabbing guests.

Brendan Fevola and Ben Cousins were both at the party, turning heads for different reasons.

Fevola was sporting a black eye and stitches, and was heard telling people it happened in a training accident.

It was the first time for months Cousins has been seen in Melbourne, since he moved back to Perth.

Congratulations to both of them.

On again Off Again saga continues with All Star Game

The Tigers exhibition game against the indigenous All-Stars is up in the air as cyclone Yasi bears down on Alice Springs.

The All-Stars this morning cancelled their flight from Sydney to central Australia, while the Tigers are awaiting a directive from the AFL before leaving from Melbourne tomorrow.

Lightning and 100km/h winds are forecast for Friday night's match.

"I think the AFL are going to make a decision by lunchtime today," Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said.

Richmond had planned to play all of it's younger players and rest anyone with any real experience, ex Melbourne player Brad Miller was going to take the field as was draftees Reece Conca, Jake Batchelor, Dean Macdonald and Tom Derick.

There are suggestions the game could be moved for a second time to Sydney.
