The Catch 22 of Text Link Ads

A couple of months ago I got an email from Text Link Ads that informed me they would no longer be selling new links on my site as Pagerank had gone.

This is ironic because if I hadn't sold text links I would still have a great pagerank.....

Nowadays I don't even bother trying to sell text links, however keep earning money of those that I have sold in the past. As they drop off however my monthly income from these sources slowly declines.

Are text links a thing of the past? Maybe with the increased popularity of search engines like "bing" Google will focus on providing great search results for sites that have great relevant content, and stop punishing sites for trying to make a few dollars (Which one could argue helps to encourage that great content...)

One thing that I am going to try to do more of, and it's something I have probably neglected in the past is to stop worrying so much about making money out of every article or site that I own, and just to focus on building sites that are useful to people. I think if your site is popular enough the money will come and find you.

As for Text Link Ads, they keep paying me each month, so I won't be too rude, but I do have one word for them after that email...

Make Money Fast Legally With Articles

Over the last few years I have experimented with countless ways of making money fast online legally and one of the best ideas that I am going to share with you today is simply writing good articles that will create passive income for you month after month. If I had more motivation I would simply churn them out day after day, however with working full time and the other demands of life I am just glad that I have written some sensible ones in the past that bring in thousands of visitors every month.

If I lost my job or needed extra money and had the time I would simply repeat this formula over and over again, maybe you can make the most of what I have learned..

1./ Get a great title with keywords that don't have to much competition.

This is key to the long term success of your article, find something that may even sound boring or mundane and write an article about it, rememember however it must be related to your website for the best results. When I was looking at writing an article for my job site I found that a lot of people were searching for information on how many work days in a year, so wrote this simple yet informative article that answered the question. Last month 690 people landed on my site via this article and it appears on the front page of google for that very question.

Sure its not going to make a million dollars, however its regular income every month from the content related adverts that I run on it.

2./ Write something unique and helpful that people will comment on and link to.

Make sure the article you write gives answers to the questions that people are searching for everyday. That way other sites will link to you and forums where these questions are being discussed will tend to send traffic your way.

3./ Write more than a few lines

I generally write 4 or 5 paragraphs at least as that seems to work well. Google won't tell us what their algorithm is however it seems obvious they are going to ignore or lend little value to just a few lines of text.

4./ Consistently create content

My most popular curry recipe site is updated at least weekly by one of my internet partners who fortunately is a lot more motivated when it comes to writing content than I am. Over the years this site now has hundreds of articles that attract thousands of visitors every month.

So there it is, as always there is no element of rocket science involved, just common sense, consistency and content. Key factors in the art of making legal money online!

How to Make Your AdWords Advert a Successful One

I have been experimenting a little bit with a couple of small Adwords campaigns, directed to landing pages in an attempt to generate a little extra money. The first problem that I encountered was although I am getting impressions, people are simply not clicking on the adverts, so its now mission time, to try to generate an advert that not only converts impressions into clicks, but converts the right kind of customers that will actually buy as well!

Nothing is ever easy in this world is it.

I am trying to sell Matrix DVD's to a target market of UK. I am pointing the advert to this landing page, which I whipped up from a template I found online, and filled with my amazon affiliate adverts for the Matrix DVD, the plan being to pay for cheap clicks from people actually wanting to buy the Matrix DVD, convert them and make a few dollars.

Its fair to say the advert is pretty crap. So I am going for a rewrite... and came up with this. Previously was getting 0% conversion so will post again in a few days and update if there is any change..

I found out from this article that you can actually add a keyword dynamically into the title so are going to give this a shot. Will let you know..

Laptop

I would be very lost without my laptop and would find it hard to go back to a desktop simply for simple convenience. Being able to get up and go anywhere and take your laptop with you is fantastic. Also having mobile broadband helps as well, even though it is not always the most reliable! Recently I have had to move around a lot, so its really been a bonus.

The Background

Back in October 2006 I started upon a journey that I hoped would make me One Million Dollars in cold hard cash. It is now 21 Months later and I have NOT made One million dollars yet, however I have made more than ten thousand dollars online and set myself up with a small monthly income whether I work at it or not.

All was well on target until January/February this year when my life literally fell to pieces and I ended up leaving my marriage, going through a very tough time both emotionally and financially and working on my experiment was to be quite honest the last thing on my mind.

Six months later the world is a different place for me, it has not been an easy time, by any stretch of the imagination, but as the saying goes

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"

and I believe I will come out of this whole experience wiser, smarter and happier in the long run, however it's going to take time and I would not wish the last six months on anyone.

Passive Income Starting to Kick In

Its taken a long time, well into the second year now but everyday I do make a bit of money whether I do anything or not.

I try not to spend to much time on things that are not going to help long term anymore and to be honest do not spend even a quarter as much time online as what I used to. Earnings have certainly suffered however every month I am still earning several hundred dollars via a mixture of online activities.

This site for some reason got a fair amount of PR back from the google gods, and that has certainly helped things income wise. However who knows when they will suddenly decide to take it away again. I used to really panic about PR but now just go with the flow, I have sites with no PR that I still sell links on and they do ok.

If you have a number of sites and can make a bit of passive out of each of them, surely you are on a winner.

Lately I have been in the situation where I have needed money fast, ( to pay bills ) and the time frame has been short. However its a dilemma in itself because normally if you want to make money in a real hurry I have found that I have had to do the likes of sponsored reviews, or sell links. This is all good and you can get quick results however you also need to focus on the long term stuff which means creating worthwhile and valuable content that is going to create passive income, and unfortunately spamming your sites with paid posts and links is not really the best way to go about it.

My Top Current Passive Earners - Lazy Mans guide to Making Money Fast

1./ Google Adsense - has always been the top passive income earner for me, basically install the code on your site, drive traffic to your site and you will make money. There are probably methods that could be better used to monetize this space, but for ease of use most people I am sure would agree that Google Adsense is right up there.

2./ Linkworth - It has really taken me a while to begin earning consistant income with these guys but for the last few months thanks to slowly but surely building up a few advertisers that are happy to purchase advertising on my sites they are now earning a reliable residual income. Sometimes even if things don't always go your way you really need to be persistent to achieve that goal of making passive income online.

3./ Bucks4Banners - These guys just keep paying me for a few banner adverts that I have. Easy to set up and they just keep paying month after month. Often its a bit hard to figure out what sites they will accept however from what I have found they are not that keen on "make money online" sites and prefer more natural kind of sites.

How to Avoid Bankruptcy

Well for me the last 7 or 8 weeks have been a lesson in money management. My circumstances have changed more than ever before and suddenly I am in a situation where not only do I have to count every cent that is spent, I am really struggling to even keep a roof over my head and the main thing that I have learn't from all this is that when you have more than enough money it is easy to stop thinking about what you are spending.

Previously I had my salary, looked after my family and paid my mortgage with enough left over to live a pretty good lifestyle. Introduction:

Those of you who do not know who I am my name is Greg Barnaby and I am the guy that Rob sometimes mentions in his posts. Together we formed a working partnership called GRIS. This is the first of hopefully many guest posts to be done by me. A little bit about myself I am 27 years old, a full time Carpenter, part time lifeguard, and soon to be married. I started earning online 13 months ago and have never put any of my own money into this just re-invested what I have earned.

Do we Make Money Fast?

I thought my first post would deal with making money fast online. Does GRIS make money fast online? Yes and no! Our long term goals are to create a passive income, passive income large enough to make this our full time jobs. Many of you will find that doing this is not very fast. As you know it has taken Rob over a year to get this blog earning what it does today, it did not happen over night. Creating passive income is a slow process sometimes.

One of the ways to set up an interesting site, for minimal outlay is by hosting your own arcade site. Both myself and Greg have about 4 or 5 of them and would like to share some of the lessons that we have learn't along the way that will help you to run your own successful arcade site.

Buy a good script
There are a number of free scripts out there and also some very cheap ones, however a word for the wise, its better to spend $50 on a decent script rather than mess around with the free or very cheap ones.

Keep your script updated as well, hackers seem to love hacking arcade sites as we found out recently and that can be a real annoyance.

Add new games on a regular basis
By adding a new game every day or week ( or whatever you decide ) it keeps your site fresh and also sometimes you will add a game that proves to be popular and can gain a lot of extra visitors in this manner.

Use SEO friendly URL's if you have the option.
Most scripts have an option that lets you have either SEO friendly URL's like /games/pacman.html rather than something like /games?=id34765 and as you can imagine this type of friendly URL can help Google and other search engines figure out that you have a pacman game a lot more easily.

Dont place Adsense to close to games.
You need to be aware that there needs to be a clear line or gap between your games and your ads. You cannot try to make visitors to your site accidentally click your adverts as that is against the Google TOS.

Monitoring the Google Crawl Rate to your site

One metric that can now be relatively easily measured and can help to give you some sort of idea how "important" or "trusted" Google considers your site is to monitor the crawl rate.

There are ways of increasing your crawl rate like for example regularly updating your site, or getting high quality links from other sites.

One site that makes the crawl rate very easy for you to track on an ongoing basis and even lets you compare and rank yourself against other sites is seometer.com.

The site is free to use and its just a matter of submitting your url which gets added to their database, once your site is added you will be given a url like this one which I have set up for this blog, and be able to monitor a graph like the one in the picture below.

It takes a day or two before data is collected.

Make Money Fast In TheTwilight Zone

For the last few weeks I really feel like I am living in the Twilight Zone and all kinds of strange and random events seem to be occurring not only on my Blogs but also to do with life in general.

Here are some of the reasons why I think I am in the Twilight Zone..

The less time I spend on my sites the better they seem to go, and my passive income is increasing all by itself.... this is one of the most random things, however it is probably a culmination of the last year of work that is now starting to pay off.

Some people may know I have a morbid fear of sharks and lately everytime I look in the paper there is a new shark sighting or attack. Sharks have been eating boats, chasing kayakers and clearing beaches all over NZ at the moment and I have never heard this much news about them. Apparently according to scientists it is some kind of maternal instinct, probably that and the warmer weather at the moment?

Work.... work is really strange lately, due to the time of year I am guessing it seems like every week I am attending someones leaving drinks. And aside from that full time work although a little hard to get into the first week or so is agreeing with me at the moment - that in itself is far from the expected result.

The reason I am telling you all this ( you may be wondering if there is a point to it all! ) is that when making money on the internet no matter what you read and how you do things sometimes doing the opposites of things can be useful to not only see whether what you are doing is actually worth the effort ( obviously if traffic drops off or your income goes down then it was ) but also sometimes doing the opposite to what may seem to make sense can actually work for you! And when suddenly you realize you are making more money for less effort you will probably be very glad you tried!
