Today two of my new books came back. First one was 'Zombie Survival Guide' by Max Brooks which my lovely boyfriend bought for me! So kind of him! and the second one was 'The Sorcerers Companion' Which i mentioned in this post! I've had a quick flick through both of them and I cannot wait to read both of them, I still have to complete The Alchemyst, which i'm 45% the way through! Shall update again tomorrow!

Update

2012-04-26T05:00:00.001-07:00

Because I didn't update yesterday I shall do it now! So i'm still reading The Alchemyst and it's going really well, despite the fact that I was a bit put off after reading the reviews on Goodreads. Yesterday my mam bought me a new book called 'The Owl Killers' by Karen Maitland. I added it to my reading list! You can read about the book here. I cannot wait to read it! it's my kind of book. But first of all I have to get through all my other books. Over the past couple of days i've been getting quite a number of recommendations. If you have an interesting book you want me to check out, pleeease comment on this. Also there is only 4 days til the end of my giveaway. Good luck!

Friend Recommendation

2012-04-24T13:21:00.001-07:00

Another friend has gave me a recommendation, and I got a feeling this one is going to be a little harder to read because it's not a genre i'm used too. It's called 'A God Delusion - Richard Dawkins' I was recommended this book by my friend Daniel who said it's really interesting! So this shall be added to my reading list! Thanks Dan for the heads up! :)

2012-04-24T01:53:00.000-07:00

Over the next couple of weeks I am going to ask friends about what books they like and what's their favourite book.

Today I was recommended by my friend Joanna the book 'Abomination' By Robert Swindells
I was told that this book is amazing and from the words of my friend 'You won't be able to put it down'. If anyone else has good recommendations, comment or email me and I will add it to my reading list.

I shall review this book as soon as I get my hands on it and i've added it to my goodreads account.

Books to read in April

2012-04-22T16:31:00.002-07:00

'The Alchemyst (The secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flammel' - Michael Scott, Paperback, Published in 2007, Corgi.

What tempted me to buy this book? What tempted me into purchasing this book was actually the name 'Nicholas Flammel' As his name has popped up before in Films (Eg; Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone and in historical events) I was intrigued to know more about him. Knowing already that he was a well known French Alchemist I was drawn in to find out more. What also tempted me to purchase this book was the cover, I've always been a sucker for interesting covers. Sometimes I do judge a book by it's cover. I know that this book is targeted to a young teen audience but i was too excited to care. The only other thing I picked up on which I wasn't satisfied about was that Michael Scott has intentionally spellt 'The Alchemyst' wrong.

Key Points that I enjoyed in the book:

The mentioning of Alkatraz
The battle between Dr John Dee & Nicholas Flammel in the first chapter
The description of Perenelle Flammel.

The first 5 Chapters: The first five chapters of this book have been really interesting, I loved how the author has mentioned one of Flammels greatest achievements of creating the 'Philosphers Stone' and the plot and description of the characters were interesting and the I like the fact that the book includes elements of Flammels life and explains to us that he is 'Immortal'. The only thing two things that I am disappointed in was the fact that the mysterious shopkeeper's name is 'Nick Flemming' (Which is obviously Flammels cover up name) and the second thing that was a let down was that Scott could of been more creative about the creatures 'Gollems' (Mud creatures). Which I see as a bit of a rip-off of the Lord Of The Rings Trilogyy.

You can buy this book here.

'The Sorcerer's Companion: A Guide to the Magical World of Harry Potter' - Allan Zola Kronzek, Elizabeth Kronzek, Paperback, Published September 18th 2001, Broadway.

I purchased this book because I was interested in finding out more about the mythical creatures that are created and by Rowling in the Harry Potter books. I have not recived this book yet but I will make sure to review it as soon as a read it.
