Right now things in our lives are a little unusal, crazy, out of whack, and just plain no fun. Between the pandemic, politics, riots, natural disasters, it's been hard to stay focusced on what is good in our lives. And yes, there still is good in each of our lives even when we don't notice it.

I have been trying to keep my focus where it should be, by reading some of my favorite books, spending more time in the Word, and catching up on some of the movies I keep saying I'm going to watch some day. Who Can Stand in the Gap

“So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.” Ezekiel 22:30

At first glance, only reading one verse with this being Memorial Day weekend, you would think this is about a soldier, a protector, someone who will stand in the gap that none should pass to harm our land. But this is actually talking about finding a leader, someone who will protect the people, the public morals and the values of God, thereby allowing God to bless the land. It is a different kind of warrior to hold the line in a different kind of war, just as important, if not more so.

This Nation prospered under our first elected President, George Washington. Perhaps one of the more interesting things about George was his humble spirit, as he said of his role in leadership, “I have only been an instrument in the hands of Providence.” (March 30th, 1875) Not a ‘me so great’ bloviation but ‘God is great and I was blessed to be used by Him’ vantage. (Though in our Nation today, would the humbler spirit be recognized by most? Or would it be overlooked?)

We all realize that America is not what it used to be. It once stood out in the world as what other nations wanted to be and now it is just a nation that other nations want to sell goods to. The walls of our fortress have been breached. The once strong belief in our nation has been replaced with the attitude of apathy.

But according to John Adams, our nation had a firm foundation. “The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were … the general principles of Christianity.” (He wrote that to Thomas Jefferson back on June 28th, 1813.) Adams should know, he was there at the founding. Yes, there were imperfections as you would find with anything man has a part of.

This logic was interlaced into our nation for the next 100 years, but as it aged the threads began to tatter. John Quincy Adams, gave an oration on July 04th, 1837 (61 years after the Declaration was signed) in which he said, “ Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the World, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day (July 04th)? Is it not that in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of our Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity?”

John Jay, first Supreme Court Justice

Another early American leader, John Jay, the Secretary of State for George Washington and the original Supreme Court Justice, believed that Christian principles should be included in civil arenas. “Providence [a term many of the Founders used for God] has given to our people the choice of their rulers; and it is the duty – as well as the privilege and interest – of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.” (October 12th, 1816)

I have cited several early leaders in America, from different walks of life. Military, political, legal and I would point out they all to some degree were willing to stand in the gap, to defend this nation, its founding principles and morals, to try to keep it headed in the right direction, a Godly direction, from whence it came and to which it should keep progressing.

But I would like to suggest to you, that while the passage in Ezekiel was talking about prophets, priest and princes (political leaders); the true search is for leaders in every field. Fathers and mothers to begin with, for from these are raised children of strength, honor, morality, and integrity and those children will be the new leaders in the world.

There are leaders in every field, it matters not which. Leaders stand out and they become the best of the best, people others look up to for one reason or another. They set the example for others through how they live and conduct their lives. In many ways they stand in the gap, not because of some massive display, but often through their steadfast love of God that permeates their life.

Another of the Old Testament prophets said, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you, But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)

It is a fairly simple requirement. I suggest to you that those three things are the making of a good servant of God, a good example to man and in many ways are the attributes of a good leader.

Perhaps the important part is; if someone begins looking for a leader today, will they find us or will we be found lacking. Are we the ones that will build a wall and stand in the gap to protect our land from the more liberal values of the world? Today America is still considered as a Christian nation, by some, will it still be considered that in another fifty years?

May God stand between you and harm in all the empty places you must walk.

Down Days

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for

I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” --Psalm 43:5

President Trump has compared our country's reaction to the corona virus to a war. Warfare is fought on many fronts. The physical dangers of this pandemic are obvious, and we see them affect many other aspects of life. Cultural changes and economic hardships are far-reaching and will take time and effort to counter or accept, and some things will be changed when the dust settles. Jobs have been lost: many businesses are not going to reopen, and some churches will close. Some foreign powers are using the “distraction” to further dangerous agendas, and some homeland politicians are trying to push radical agendas they could not advance during normal times. While we are seeing “the light at the end of the tunnel”, what lies ahead as we emerge from the tunnel may be a very different society. Television newscasts keep giving us “confirmed cases” and “total deaths” updates, with higher numbers each day.

I find all this to be very depressing. Sometimes I change the TV channel, and take a break from the news to watch The Flintstones or The Dukes of Hazzard. Sometimes I ignore my doctor's advice and eat a few [okay, more than a few] extra chips or cookies. But it doesn't brighten my mood much, and isn't helping my waistline, either.

One of the biggest side-effects of the pandemic that isn't addressed much is the emotional toll it's taking.

Medical workers are struggling. A military chaplain who served in the Gulf War, now a volunteer chaplain in a New York City hospital, said what he's witnessing now is worse than the desert battlefield. Medical workers putting in 13-hour shifts report being fatigued and often sorrowful. That fact is especially worrisome: such stress can affect job performance, and lives are literally at stake.

Across the country, a major problem is depression. We see confusion, anger, and frustration triggering harmful behavior: assaults, domestic violence, break-ins and suicides are on the rise.

What can we do about it? More importantly, what guidance does the Bible give us when we are depressed?

The first thing we need to understand is what depression is NOT. It is not a demonic presence. When Scripture speaks of “a spirit of” grief or fear, it is talking about the human spirit: one's outlook or mindset. Evil spirits do exist and may try to lead us into depression, but it is our own spirit or heart which needs altering, not a demon which needs rebuking.

Depression is also not necessarily a sin! Isaiah told us that Jesus would be “a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief” [Isaiah 53:3]. The Gospels record His anger at the disciples and the Pharisees, and His sorrow over the death of Lazarus [even though He could bring him to life again]. He prayed in agony the night He was betrayed by Judas. “Negative” emotions are not evil just because we do not enjoy them.

Jeremiah, a mighty prophet, is known as the “weeping prophet”. His mood did not disqualify him from prophetic service.

Even the Apostle Paul admits to depression, but contrasts it with failure! “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed“ [II Corinthians 4:8-9]. “Cast down” doesn't mean being tossed off a building. It means having a “downcast” facial expression; to habitually look at the ground. In Paul's day, in the 17^th century [when the King James Version translated Hebrew and Greek words into “cast down”], and in modern society, a “down cast face” is considered a sign of depression. But Paul contrasts being troubled, perplexed, and depressed with being in despair, being forsaken, being destroyed. We CAN have a troubled, perplexed, even depressed spirit [attitude] without being defeated – indeed, later in the passage he asserts, “in all these things we are more than conquerors” through Christ.

When we are tired, stressed, confused, even depressed, it can all be for good reason. The Christian is still a human living in a fallen world. It is not the absence of suffering that determines our spiritual condition, but our reaction to it. Struggling to overcome difficult moods and feelings is a noble deed; it's giving up and giving in to depression [or anger, or fear] that constitutes failure. And in our struggle, we should always turn to “God, that comforteth those that are cast down” [II Corinthians 7:6].

So: what do we find in the Bible to help us in the Down Days?

** In Down Days, God will always be there. “for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” --Hebrews 13:5

** In Down Days, God will always care: “casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” I Peter 5:7

Do you give [cast] your worries to God, or try to deal with them as if He isn't there?

** Jesus is already victorious over Down Days: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” --John 16:33

** Jesus has united us eternally with our loving God, and Down Days cannot change that: “I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” --Romans 8:38-39

** In Down Days, choose to think about uplifting things: “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ”
--Philippians 4:8

“These things” include these and many other verses that should comfort us. Think on them, study them, and rely on them as a way in which the God of all comfort calms and soothes your spirit on Down Days.

Then, when He has aided you, share what He has done for you with others who are also struggling with Down Days.

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” --II Corinthians 1:3-4

God is always greater than the biggest problem you have.

I love to read and I read a lot. I always have a book with me when I go places since I don't know how long I will be waiting at the places I go. This current book was perfect for that.

An Amish Christmas Kitchen is a lovely book with three novellas that you can easily read in an afternoon. I loved how quickly I could identify with the characters and how sweet the stories were. Each story was set in the same time period and you could sense the area of the country where they took place, along with the simple lifestyle of the Amish. The sweet romances that took place were very touching and helped you root for the main characters to find happiness, especially during the Christmas season. This would make a great gift for a friend or loved one for Christmas! Fair warning, reading this will make you want to go bake or visit a bakery.

Looking For A Summer Slouchy Beanie?

I know this is not exactly the time of year you usually talk about a product like this, but with all the weird weather we have been having, it really fits! Plus, even when it is warm you once in a while need something like this.

CacheAlaska has a fantastic Summer Slouchy Beanie! I have to tell you, this really is a nice hat.

The material is acrylic and super light weight. With the slouch look, you can wear it all year round keeping your head comfortable in cold or warm weather. It's great for being out in windy, rainy and blustery days, keeping your hair dry and looking good! Plus, your head doesn't get overheated while wearing it.

I like that it will fit pretty much every one. I have very tall, big sons, and they often find it hard to get hats to fit. They don't stretch enough or they don't stay on well. This beanie stays on really well, and they like how comfortable it feels.

It can be worn as it is or folded up with a cuff, although I like it better uncuffed. It's also machine washable and you can tumble dry it. Easy care!

As a reader I love to find books that really make me think . One of my favorite authors who consistently gets me thinking, and thinking a lot is Ravi Zacharias. His latest book is no exception to making me think a lot!

You do need to be warned, this book is not going to be read in a short time or zipped through. It grabs hold of your thoughts and it's supposed to. You will begin thinking about God in ways you had never thought of Him or in ways hat you had not thought about in a long time. I think that's a good thing!

I highly recommend this book to you and encourage you to pick extra copies up or your friends and family as gifts!

Baby On the Way and You Need To Tote Around a Lot?

At our house it always seems we are looking for something to help us carry things in and out of and around the house. As a young mother, I really needed help making sure I had everything for both of my boys in one easy place whenever I left home. That's where bags like this come in handy.

This is the Siana Baby Diaper Caddy Organizer & Changing Pad from Siana Baby. It's an open top diaper bag to help organize everything you need and be easily and quickly available for you to grab when needed.

The bag is made from a durable, padded felt that is heavy duty, but soft at the same time. It has 7 open pockets on the outside edges and one small zippered pocket, to keep a wallet, phone or cash securely safe.

Inside there is a wide open space that you can customize with the three included dividers that can be moved around or taken out to suit your needs. Each comes with two ends that have Velcro tabs to securely hold them in place when you use them. You can use all three, just two, or even just one.

I like the option of how to carry the bag. It has two shorter handles to carry like a tote or a long removable shoulder strap to free up your hands as you carry it. The shoulder strap is easy to put on and take off and folds easily to tuck into one of the pockets.

The bag also has a nice bonus, like lots of diaper bags. It comes with a fold-able changing pad made from the same durable, soft padded felt with a water proof backing.

Although I am not a huge fan of an open diaper bag like this, I know a lot of people like them. Personally, I think this would be something nice to keep a supply of items handy at Grandma's and Grandpa's house so you don't have to tote a lot back and forth all the time when you go visit or they babysit. It would also be nice for around the house in different rooms.

I was thinking that this bag would be great for other things too, like craft supplies, gardening tools, toys, a tote for going to the beach, and more. With it being open at the top, you could tuck all kinds of things in it vertically and will would hold a lot!

The price is great too! I think it's a good deal for a nice and practical bag!

Looking For Alcohol Ink Permanent Markers?

I am what some people would call a craft dabbler. I love to experiment with different products to see what they are capable of doing for the art and crafts I love to create.

Well I recently got a chance to try out some Dual Tipped Alcohol Based Markers from FAN DI. It's a really nice set of alcohol ink permanent markers.

There are 80 markers in all, which gives you a really good color and blending selection. The markers are dual tipped, one end being a broad tip and the other a fine tip. Each one works well to help you fill in large areas quickly and to highlight smaller areas with more detail.

They all come in a zippered case with a handle on the top for easy transport and storage. I'm glad it has a case, but I do wish it was a little more structured with stiff sides to keep the pens more securely upright instead of wanting to fan out and kind of fall down as you take some out of the case. I found the best way to get them back in was to tip the case slightly on it's side and then they all straighten up making it easier to put the pens back in.

A very nice touch is that the markers are not round, so they never roll around on your desk or table getting easily lost or falling to the floor!

I like how well the pens blend color together and how well they fill in images, but you need to be aware that these do bleed through paper, so if you are coloring something, make sure another image is not behind it or you place several pieces of paper under the page you are working on. Several times the ink went through 3 sheets of paper. If you give them to your kids, don't leave them unsupervised!

For me, I see these markers as perfect for working on big projects, like posters or informational notices. The colors are bright, easy to see and the markers fill in areas quickly without having a lot of color overlap like some markers can have.

Even with a few negatives, I would still recommend these to you, although I do think they are a little pricey. But good markers will cost a little more! Quality is not cheap!

The pad itself is 18" x 26", which for most people, covers the majority of your back. It's also very flexible and will curve around your body, not missing a spot like some stiff and small heating pads. To give you an idea of just how big it is, I placed a CD case on it for comparison. It's big!

The cover is made of a super soft microplush fiber that really is very soft and comfy on your skin. It feels very nice and does not slide around while you are using it. Both sides are soft and comfortable.

The control is easy to operate. A large on/off button adjusts it from low, medium, or high. We found that even on high, the heat it generates is not so hot that it would burn you. I remember one from my childhood that could get too hot and would hurt. I also appreciate that there is an auto shut off to the control too. if you fall asleep using it, it will shut off without you having to do anything. That's a fantastic safety feature!

The heating pad can be used for dry or moist heat. It comes with complete instructions so you can use it in the way that helps your pain or injury the best. But it's as easy as misting the pad with water, not soaking it.

I really like this heating pad and I know our family will be using it for a long time to come. Plus, compared to ones that are in the stores, the price is really good!

This winter has been brutal for us in Northern Indiana, and I know it has been tough in many other parts of the country too. It's been hard to keep warm every day, but we got something that has helped some!

This is the CacheAlaska Slouchy Beanie! We love this thing!!

The beanie is made from acrylic knit and is super soft next to your skin. Since it is acrylic, it is easy to care for, just toss it in the washer on cold and tumble dry. I love easy care products!

Since it is not wool, it also won't shrink. We've had wool beanies and caps before, and the first time they got really wet (not from washing), they shrank some. Ugh!! This one won't do that. It has great give and will fit any adult comfortably. I personally, like that it is large enough and has enough give to it that I can stuff all three feet of my hair up inside it. Not many hats like this can hold all my hair and keep it there.

This is one stylish hat too! As soon as my son saw it, he claimed it and has not given it back. He loves that you can fold up the bottom to make a brim, or to wear it slouchy for comfort and because it looks good that way.

Unlike CacheAlaska's Beanie Caps, this on does not have a fleece lining in it, which means that there is much more give in this hat than the others. It comes in two colors too, grey and black.

I'll admit, I love decorating my house in a country style. To be more exact, colonial would better describe what I love. So I am always on the lookout for things that will fit in my home and not looks so modern.

The O-KIS Glass Soap Dispenser is perfect for my house. It has a simple rustic look to it, imitating a Ball pint canning jar. It's the perfect size for many things from soap to lotion.

The 16 ounce glass jar comes with everything unassembled and very clear and easy to understand directions to assemble it. It took less than a minute to put it together and be ready to use.

I love that it comes with an FDA approved silicone washer to insert in the lid. I have had several other soap dispensers and they did not come with the washer. It really makes a big difference in keeping the soap in the jar where it belongs and from leaking.

The lid is made from stainless steel, which is a really good thing. It will last for a long time and never rust, unlike my old soap dispenser. The opening in the top is smack, dab in the middle, which helps when using the pump. Since it is centered, the jar doesn't move around as you use the pump.

The pump itself moves freely, yet has a good spring to it. Just the right amount of liquid comes out with each pump and so far it has not clogged up or even come close to clogging.

The jar I got is blue, but the company also offers them in purple and green, so you can choose different colors for different rooms or lotions and soaps. They would work great in the kitchen, bathroom, or your bedroom.

One of these O-KIS Glass Soap Dispenser would work in many homes and add a nice decorative touch to many rooms.

The first jar I ordered arrived broken, but the company very quickly replaced it and the new jar arrived in just 2 days! Excellent service!!

Need To Magnify and Illuminate Your Work?

As a crafter, I am always looking for things that help me work more efficiently and that help me do the best I can creating things. Also, as the wife of someone who has limited vision, I am always looking for things that will help my husband see better and more clearly. So when I got the LED Magnifying Lamp by OKOA, I was excited. It is something both of us will use!

The lamp is 21" tall, including the lamp head, and has a flexible gooseneck. It can bend in any direction up or down, side to side, to get the lamp head in just the right position for what you need to see.

I love the clamp base. The light can sit on any flat surface just fine by itself in the weighted base, but you can take it out of the base to have it clamped to the edge of almost any surface. The clamp holds the lamp securely where you put it. My desk has a 1" thick top and the clamp worked really well on it.

Another cool thing about the base of the lamp is a slot to hold your cell phone. You can put your phone on the base and see directions online to do something while actually following along. Very handy!

I was impressed with how well the magnification works. It really does make it easy to see things clearly, and with the lens being as big as it is, you don't have to move what you are working on around to be in just the right place as much.

The lamp comes with a USB cable that you can plug right into your computer or into an adapter to charge in an outlet. The cable is nice and long, so you can adjust it a lot better than some cables that come with electronics. I haven't figured out how long the light stays charged yet, but so far, quite a while!

The light has three levels of brightness, so you can adjust to it your need and your light sensitivity. It's also a pure white light, which helps keep down eye strain. When you are working on a project close up like that. Eye strain can be a serious problem. Having a pure white light makes a big difference. To adjust the light it just takes a small tap on the "switch".

I am super pleased to have this lamp and I know both my husband and I will be using it a lot. We highly recommend it to you!

Too Much Snow, Dirt, and Debris Being Tracked In Your House?

Winter is finally here in the Midwest, and we have all that lovely snow getting tracked into our house no matter how much the guys stamp off their feet before they come inside. So, I am really happy to have the new door mat to help keep some of it from gong through the whole house.

Green Dream has a nice Rubber Door Mat (30" x 18"), that helps keep the debris stuck to shoes (and bare feet int the summer) from tracking all over the house.

The mat is made of a high quality, natural rubber. It is super durable and has a good weight to it. The top side has a taperd edge that helps keep you from not tripping on it. Plus, the edge helps keep any puddles of moisture from rolling and dripping off the edge and going on your floors.

The top also has a distinctive pattern that helps remove debris and moisture from the bottom of your shoes and boots as you scrape your feet on it. You have a choice of Brown Wavy or Blue Criss Cross design, both textured to get all the "gunk" off with just a few wipes of your feet.

The bottom side of the mat is also textured, flexible rubber, that grips the floor, keeping the mat still and not slipping and sliding around.

If your mat gets super dirty, and it will, it's easy to clean by simply vacuuming it or using a damp cloth with a mild soap. And if it is really dirty, you can take it outside and hose it off our put it under your shower head to give it a good clean.

Although I would like the mat to be just a little larger in size for our door, it's still a good size and will accommodate almost all entry doors inside out out. It does not sit up very high, so all doors swing over it without catching it or moving it. When you first get the mat it comes all rolled up. it does take several days to lay flat, but once it does, it stays flat.

With two colors to choose from, it will also fit into every home, helping keep things cleaner. As a Mom and pet owner, I appreciate that!

Have you ever noticed that the more new products that come out, the more different kinds of screws and nuts are also invented? How many new shapes can they make? And then when you go to try and repair something you just don't have the right screwdriver or socket to work on what you need to repair it. It's frustrating and can get expensive, especially when trying to work on electronic equipment.

Aosky Has just what you need, and I needed, to help! They have the Professional Precision Magnetic Screwdriver Set that, seriously, has everything you need to get pretty much every job done.

The first thing is, it's magnetic. That comes in so handy. Some of those tiny, tiny screws are easy to misplace, and having the magnet really helps keeping them where they belong instead of falling and getting lost. I can't even begin to tell you the number of times I have lost tiny screws and had to scour the carpet for them.

The adjustable lengths of the handles is fantastic too. Super easy to manipulate and easy to adjust to the right length. I also love that the handles are larger in size and have a comfortable rubber grip. With arthritis, they are easy to hold and use without hurting my hands in 2 minutes.

The case holds everything in place and securely, although the closure on the front is a little hard to use. But each handle and bit has a nice, snug place to help you keep everything right where you need them.

On the back of the case there is a handy chart to let you know the size of each bit, so if directions in a kit tells you a specific size needed you can make sure you have it (which you should with this set).

I also like that it has a small tab that you can use to hand it up if you want. It slides out when needed and back in when you don't. Very handy!

At first, I was not sure how much I would use this, but after having it for a few weeks now, I have realized it's going to be something we go to often to help us repair, build and take care of our electronic gadgets, glasses, kits, and more. Oh and my husband thought the pry/support bar was something he would use a lot! He thinks all kits like this should have one.

It's not often that you find a product with such amazing quality that you can't wait to tell people about it. This is one of those products!

The American Shield Granite 25 Backpack is an amazing backpack. From the moment I opened the package it came in, I knew it was exceptional.

The backpack comes in 4 different colors. Mine is the Green, There is also the Black&Brown, Coffee, and Black. It is made with a heavy oxford fabric that feels so good when you touch it. You can tell that this is a pack that will hold up for quite a long time and will age nicely.

The straps are a nice leather and are easy to manipulate and hold securely when buckled, if you want to use the buckles at all. They had secure magnetic clasps to hold them in place and to open the pack quickly. They really add a classic look to the pack and the color coordinates beautifully.

The inside of the pack has multiple compartments with a striped fabric lining. The color is bright, making it easy to see what is inside. There is a drawstring closure at the top to secure everything inside even without buckling the outer straps.

The best compartment in the pack is the specially lined computer pocket. The fabric is extra soft fleece and padded underneath. This pocket will protect your computer with no problem. My son has been using my pack and said his laptop is a little snug going into the pocket, but he would rather it be snug than loose.

There are several other pockets of varying sizes to help you organize your phone, pens, personal items and more both inside and in the front smaller pocket. I was surprised at how much we could put in the pack and it still be comfortable to carry.

On each side of the backpack there are elastic pouches for water bottles or other things you want to be quickly available without opening and closing the pack. There is even a small zipper pocket on one of the shoulder straps to place a spare key or cash.

One thing we noticed was that even if you only use one strap over your shoulder, the pack stays put. The straps are so nicely balanced that it does not move around or slide off your shoulder as you walk. They also distribute the weight of what you are carrying evenly, so your back and shoulders do not tire quickly. My son said it was extremely comfortable to carry and he said he would highly recommend this backpack to anyone!

I was impressed with the quality of the stitching. It is very well made, feels solid and really does look good. You can tell right away that it is not a cheap product, but something that is a smart investment and stylish! Even my husband was impressed with it! It would make a great gift for a traveler or someone off to school!
