Spring Fashion Trends 2012

Wow, I can't believe we are actually a few months away from springtime. I'm even more excited about the spring fashion that is soon to hit stores. This spring is all about fun, bright, and bold colors. Feminine silhouettes, and flowy fabrics. Color blocking isn' going anywhere, and you can pull this look off by finding shades of bright pastels and neon colors that flatter your skin tone. Afrocentric tribal prints will have a strong influence on spring fashion and mixing these prints with stripes and/ or polka dots will be sooo in style.

Accessorizing will also follow the same suit. Colors, big funky chunky bracelets and earrings. Over sized clutch purses in bright pastels and funky prints are going to be a must have.

Spring 2012 beauty trends will be about girly color eye shadows, bright lip color, and of course healthy skin never goes out of style. When hitting the salon or spa for your manicure & pedicure, the look will be about the funky color french. Say bye bye to the traditional pink & white french mani and get cray with color!!

Why You Can't Get Married

Seems like sooooo many women are having man problems. Men afraid of commitment, men that have five girlfriends at the same time, men living with a woman for years on end with marriage nowhere in sight. And the question is why? I truly believe that women have more control over this situation than most think they have.

Conventional advice in magazines like Glamour and Cosmopolitan will have you thinking to get a man, all you have to do is bend over backwards (literally and physically), and be the ultimate sex goddess in order to get and keep a man. Be flirty and you're sure to grab the man of your dreams attention. I mean honestly, now days a woman will give a man sex and he doesn't even have to buy her a Happy Meal from McDonald's. Even with all this advice about being an independent sex goddess, women are still single and trying to figure things out.

I think that conventional modern dating is the reason why women are finding themselves single, and that perhaps the wisdom and ways of old will find women feeling worthy and headed down the alter (more frequently) again. I mean think about it, back in the day our grandmother's and great-grand mothers didn't have a problem getting a husband and it was mostly due to the fact that people "courted" not dated, families were involved, and the women weren't had higher standards, weren't giving up sex to every Tom, Dick, and Harry that got her excited, and weren't out chasing the men.

Maybe you think I'm old fashioned, and overly opinionated, but the statistics speak for themselves. I would love to see a return to old fashion courtship, were parents advice (which is usually right), is taken into serious consideration, and "dates" were the kind that were planned and thought out, and didn't end with being in bed with a complete stranger.

As you all know, I am Muslim. In Islam boyfriend/girlfriend relationships are not permissible, yet getting married is very important, and highly advisable. People get to know each other, by chaperoned visits, or outings (usually the father, older brother, or another person who knows the woman very well, and has her best interest in mind). A woman has her full rights, and should never be forced to marry someone she doesn't want to according to Islamic rule (sadly this happens in some countries today). Ironically, these marriages have a higher success rate, than those who went the whole I met him at a bar route.

I would love to hear from those of you who ditched traditional, modern dating, and found your dream guy by way of courtship or other forms of non traditional match making. Share your story of how this can work in the modern world, for the modern woman.

My earnest prayer is that each and every woman feel worthy again. Worthy of love, and understanding her worth. May Allah make every woman feel worthy again ....Ameen.

Hey Queens, I hope all is well with everyone. I have been super busy, but not too busy to keep up with the latest and greatest in fashion. I know summer is really just getting under way, but I couldn't help noticing the super cute fall clothes that will soon be headed our way in a few months. Most of the clothes are a fall preview from Gucci's 2011 Fall line. Knee high boots, and dark opaque tights are definite must haves for this fall, as well as a pop of color. I notice that lady like silhouettes are still going strong for the fall, and I must admit I am glad. It's all about being a lady. Military jackets and trench coats with a feminine twist are also going to be fall staples. Take a look!

Ok, it's summer time, it's hot, everyone is hitting the beach and the pools, and you want to also, but you want to look nice at the same time. Swimming for me since I've become a modest fashionista has always been a sticky area, because I don't like looking weird. My Little Long Black Dress From ASOS.COM

After much searching, I finally found a tank maxi dress that fits wonderfully, and goes with everything it is my Little Long Black Dress from ASOS.COM . I paid a little more than what I wanted for the dress ($51.72), but for me, when I come across items like this, and it's actually available in my size (American size 16-18), I usually snatch it up if I have the money. The dress comes in two colors, black and beige, and the length of the garment has to be somewhere around 60" because I'm 5'7" and it covers my feet and hits the floor with no shoes on, and even with 3 inch heels on it's still covers most of the shoes. Modest & Sexy????? A Contradiction

Not too long ago on Facebook, one of my Facebook friends, and sister in Islam, posted a reply after being attacked about a post stating that she had bought a pair of skinny jeans. Many women attacked her saying that it is inappropriate for a Muslim woman to wear skinny jeans.

Now let's keep a few things in perspective. Number one, this woman wears hijab (for those of you who don't know hijab is the Islamic headscarf), and wears it properly, covering herself they way she needs to be covered (Islamicaly). Number two, this woman is married, and I believe has at least two children.

Besides my hating judgemental people, my other pet peeve (other than rudeness and inconsideration), are people who are too extreme. On one hand a woman can be to loose and out there, have absolutely no restraint about how she conducts herself, dress wise or other wise, but on the other hand you have the woman who is modest, but so modest that she can't allow herself to be ultra sexy and feminine when appropriate. Both are wrong in my humble opinion.

I am of the belief that every woman should have a pair of skinny jeans, mini skirt, halter top, some daisy duke shorts and a little black dress ......TO WEAR AT HOME FOR HER HUSBAND. Think logically for a moment. Unfortunately, your husband is out all day looking at,working,and dealing with women, most of whom do not have a problem showing a little thigh, cleavage, or butt. Then he comes home to you and your dressed like a nun, hair a mess...you get the picture. Ladies this is a man's worst nightmare, and even if he is a man of Allah (God in Arabic language) and understands why you choose to dress modestly (outside the home), he is still a man, and wants to be excited by the woman that he has to come home to until he dies. The prophet (PBUH) has said "All women have the ornaments that Allah blessed them with. Use the beauty Allah - Azza wa Jal - has bestowed you with to win the heart of your husband." And we should do just that.

We should not be afraid to embrace our feminine sexuality. I know that this is sometimes difficult for women who are very religious or have been taught that being sexy is bad or dirty. Our sexuality is beautiful and a gift from Allah/God, it is nothing to be ashamed of and should always be used appropriately and responsibly.

On a side note, us Modest Fashionistas, shouldn't use wearing hijab, or dressing modestly as an excuse or reason to stay out of shape (I am guilty of this, and am changing). We should strive everyday to eat right, exercise and be in the absolute best shape ever, for ourselves first, and also for our husbands and family.

The art of being a feminine woman, and using our feminine wiles has become lost for the most part. Modesty IS important, but a woman shouldn't lose her sexy side just because she choose to dress modest in public. Remember balance is key in every aspect of life.

The Thrifty Modest Fashionista Challenge

Ok, I have something to admit. I have come to the realization that if I want to reach other goals in my life, then I'm going to have to SERIOUSLY cut back on my clothes spendings. For the next 2 months I am going to challenge myself by shopping ONLY at thrift stores. I always hear of people finding the most wonderful things at thrift stores, but I have not found that to be true for myself. However for the sake of my other goals (mainly furnishing my house and taking continuing education classes), I will give thrifting another chance. I will post pics of my findings.I want to see just how many trendy, modest fashions I can find to look great on a dime.
