December 31: Gentleman Redux

A bit of a cheat, as I drew this on January 1st instead, making it a full year after the first image. Despite the utter flameout that was December, I still wanted to finish this year as I intended – redrawing the very first image of the year, taking a look back on what the dailies have done for me. And they’ve done a lot! I’ve learned a ton over the course of the year.

And thus marks the end of The Monthly Daily. To follow my further exploits, you can check out my much neglected regular blog. It’s been really pretty sad over the past year, as most of my effort’s been going over here, but with the dailies ending, I hope to revamp it and start posting regularly again sometime over the next couple of weeks. Watch for that!

December 18-30: Epic Fail Redux

I guess it’s appropriate that, in the month that I revisited previous months’ work, I would repeat August’s crash and burn. It’s a sad way to end an otherwise good year. After all, when I started this, I expected to flame out by the end of the first month. It was something like four months before I so much as missed a day, and I got as far as August without missing anything I didn’t immediately catch up on. The reasons were the same as the first time around – unavoidable work, illness, etc and so on. I shouldn’t let it get to me as much as it does. This was a hell of a year, and I’m proud of what I came up with. It’s focused me on what I love to do, and it’s left me inspired and ready to face down 2011 with a whole new energy.

But it was still an epic fail. Oh well. At least I’ve got something for the final day…

The original drawing of Hare looked way too goofy – dude’s a leader, and he’s supposed to have a sort of strong-jawed nobility to him, instead of the sleepy-eyed derpiness that the first attempt portrayed.

True story: in the time since drawing the original image, I have become unhealthily obsessed with a different trenchcoated angel. So how am I sticking to dailies instead of faffing off to draw stacks of Cas fanart? Sheer willpower.
