FOR THE WHOLE BIKE

Most bikepacking kits are stitched together from multiple brands that share nothing in common. EVOC’s new bikepacking collection is a modular system of waterproof, PFAS-free bags that all share the same straps and mounts, so they link together to your frame’s mounts or to a rack.

The set contains everything from an insulated food pouch to rear panniers. The collection was developed in partnership with Jana Kesenheimer, winner of the women’s Transcontinental Race, the self-supported ride across Europe.

The collection is split into two segments: Ultra are the minimalist race-level models that Jana relies on for competition, while Explorer is the everyday range with more features and options for touring, bikepacking, and commuting.

Both lines share the same straps and mounts, so you can mix and match between sets to best suit your needs. Straps come in three lengths to fit almost any frame and feature soft TPU rubber under the buckles to prevent scratches.

HANDLEBAR PACKS

Handlebar bags can be hard to mount and pack. EVOC’s new 5L uses a tool-free BOA dial and strap system that eliminates the need for a heavy aftermarket mount. The side-loading roll-top bag is perfect for packing bulky items that compress, like a sleeping bag, and can be easily removed if you need to head inside for the night. An exterior elastic cord holds a rain jacket or anything that requires quick, easy access.

Our favorite bag might be the Handlebar Pack WP 1.5. This is the bag that stays on the bike year-round. Big enough for a small jacket and the things you reach for on every ride, and fully waterproof, so your gear stays dry when the weather doesn’t cooperate. Run it alone or stack it with the larger bags if you need more room up front.

TOP TUBE PACKS

The top tube pack comes in 1l and 2l. Both are easy to open one-handed, feature a pass-through charging port for handlebar-mounted electronics, and offer enough room for your phone. The interiors feature side mesh pockets for small essentials that you may need to access quickly. Both top tube bags can be lashed together with the frame packs via the shared strap system, or you can use common frame top tube mounts for strap-free installation.

Smaller frame sizes don’t leave much room inside the front triangle, so EVOC developed the 2L with Jana. The aerodynamic design minimizes drag, allowing her to carry additional gear while still accessing two water bottles.

Available in 1.5l and 3l, the frame packs give you the most room while still clearing two water bottles in the front triangle. SEAT PACKS

When fully loaded, seat bags frequently suffer from the dreaded bag wag. EVOC uses a small wedge that shoehorns around the seat post. This unique design is paired with straps that run underneath the saddle. This combination firmly affixes the bag at two points, which prevents side-to-side motion. The more you load it, the more the weight pushes down towards the wedge, locking the bag down even tighter.

EVOC offers two versions. Both seat packs are compatible with dropper posts. They feature an adjustable waterproof roll-top, reflective strips, a rear light strap, and elastic loops for gear that doesn’t fit inside.

The Ultra version is designed for racing. It uses buckles to shave weight and is available in both 4L and 7L capacities. If the Ultra is a rally car, the BOA line is for those who enjoy the small luxuries. It delivers similar performance at a small weight penalty, but the quick dials make it easier to load and unload.

EVOC has also added reinforced side panels to the seat packs, helping hold the bag’s shape and reducing the potential for bag wag. BOA straps also better stabilize loads as weights get heavier, allowing EVOC to offer them in larger sizes: 9L, 12L, and 15L.

ACCESSORY POUCHES

EVOC’s new food pouch, known internally as the “burrito bag,” is stem-mounted and insulated. It’s the perfect size for keeping the aforementioned burrito warm on the way to camp or keeping that tall can cold. It also features an outside mesh pocket for stashing wrappers. Remember, leave no trace. EVOC also designed a down tube pack, which is a waterproof anything bag. It’s the perfect place to keep spare tubes, tools, and the like. This location often gets covered in crud, making it a poor spot for a zipper. Instead, a roll-top makes it easy to access your things while maximizing water (mud/dust/grit/ bug) proofness.

When EVOC set out to build panniers, the team looked for the best mounting system available and even considered designing one in-house. They landed on KlickFix, fellow Germans, known as leading bicycle bracket developers, whose mechanical latches click on and off with ease. The collection includes a 4.5L fork pannier and a 25L rear pannier. The rear hides a padded laptop sleeve and mesh pockets, so you can race on Sunday and sell on Monday. It also gets reflective trim and removable shoulder straps.

The Ranger V3 features a steeper seat tube angle for a more efficient pedaling position, a longer reach to re-center the rider on punchy climbs, a slacker head angle for serious confidence on the descents, and a lower bottom bracket for that planted, in-the-bike feel that translates to better cornering, better braking, and more traction on every surface. Chainstay lengths grow with the larger frame sizes, so every rider, no matter the size, gets balanced handling that feels purpose-built.

Short Travel Optimized CBF

The first Ranger was designed in 2019 with an awesome 115mm of CBF travel. This new updated platform takes it to a whole new level. It’s CBF for short travel, reimagined. With a playfulness that you normally wouldn’t expect from a bike with 120mm of travel.

The new kinematic has been specifically refined for what a downcountry bike should feel like. The suspension is more progressive than the previous two versions, with a ride feel that the team at Revel describe as “air pillow on top, supportive platform in the middle, bottomless at the end.”

In short, small bumps disappear. Pumping becomes more productive. Huck-to-flats feel a whole lot less daunting. Under braking, the bike stays low and planted. On the climbs, higher anti-squat numbers pair with active suppleness at the top of the stroke to deliver the dream combination of pedal efficiency and maximum traction.

A New Look

The new design language of the frame is clean, modern, and sleek. The biggest visual change is also the smartest engineering improvement on the bike. All of the links have been updated, with the lower link living inside the frame. All of the suspension hardware has also been redesigned and thoroughly trail tested. The result is a more efficient structure with improved stiffness.

The boxier link shapes are stronger and lighter, and cable routing that is fully protected from trail debris and impacts. Larger tube cross sections add stiffness and strength while delivering a modern, sleek silhouette. Despite the increase in travel, the Ranger is noticeably​ lighter, stiffer, and faster than the V2, both up and down the trail.

Frame protection received a full overhaul. Soft, noise-eating chainstay rubber, durable impact-resistant downtube rubber, and a stout debris fender on the seat tube combine to shield the frame from rock strikes, mud, and rogue trail shrapnel. Although I’ve enjoyed winter riding and really tacky trails, the sun has come out here in the PNW, and we’re seeing lots of white skin and smiling faces. Yay! Short weather is here, people.

After a few rides in some new pieces from SHREDLY, I’d like to report that SHREDLY gear is not all about looking good. These pieces are truly functional in ways meaningful to women who ride more than just bike paths and city streets. Although you will look good in this gear, you will also appreciate the details that SHREDLY has put a lot of time and effort into, likely based on feedback from riders like you. And, of course, riding on bike paths can be just as awesome as riding on trails!

SHREDLY knows you need to carry items, and pockets are important. If you opt to wear chamois sans baggies, the Biker Cham 2.0 has two pockets that accommodate all kinds of items.

The coordinating Limitless 11″ Stretch Waistband High-Rise shorts have four pockets, two of which are zippered. I love all the options — I carried my car keys, a snack, phone, reading glasses, and lip sunscreen on a recent ride without feeling like a stuffed sausage.

The pockets are roomy, and the zippered pockets are at two different heights, so you can find the comfy spot for your phone, which is always tricky. I actually find I don’t even need to carry a pack with these shorts, especially on shorter rides when I can get away with just a water bottle.

And sometimes you just want pockets for your hands, because it can be hard to know what to do with them! All the pockets on these baggies have a mesh lining that helps cool you down and allows the shorts to dry quickly.

I love the fresh new fabrics and patterns SHREDLY is bringing to the table (er… trails). The Limitless 11″ short comes in 19 colors and patterns! Sizing runs from 00 to 24 while 7″, 11″ and 14″ inseams are available.

Biker Cham 2.0 comes in 9 colors ranging from XS to 3X. SHREDLY believes every woman deserves a well-fitting pair of bike shorts. Whenever possible, seams are taped for durability and a really finished look.

Speaking of well-fitting, I wasn’t sure if I’d feel comfortable in shorts without a belt. I have that “athletic build” where I need a short big enough to accommodate my thighs, but not huge around my waist. The Limitless short works well with a strip of elastic built into the waistband, and the Chamois 2.0 has the compression I like. The high waist on the chamois prevents that awkward muffin overhang feeling.

And like many SHREDLY items, the Chamois 2.0 manages to combine function and fashion — the scalloped hem is lovely, and the silicone grippers keep the shorts in place.

All women want to know, ” How do I look from behind? I’m happy with the fit. The Flora Clay fabric reminds me of springtime, when nature sings its happy song, bringing us Indian paintbrush, asters, and poppies.

I haven’t said much about the Beyond Tech 3/4, maybe because it feels so light and comfortable that you don’t notice it. The fit is relaxed and allows space for elbow pads, while the seams are taped and bonded for no rub and a lightweight feel. Four-way stretch means the jersey moves with your body, and according to the SHREDLY website, the fabric is engineered to cool you and minimize those stinky microbes. In fact, all three of the pieces I tested are quick-drying yet durable. The 3/4 jersey comes in 11 colors and runs from XS to 3X. The color I tested, raspberry, is described as neither red nor pink. You know that color. THAT color. So bright and happy. And I do think I will dare to wear the raspberry shorts and shirt together, without overshorts. I love the color that much!
