So you must be wondering…why I stopped updating the website, and why it’s no longer active. The reason is very simple: I have been really busy with school. I am in my final year at the University of Toronto, and things have gotten really hectic. However, that doesn’t mean the Free Sheet Music movement is dead. Feel free to continue sharing music through this website or other means. When I have some time, I will update the website again with lots more sheet music…but until that time comes, enjoy all the sheet music downloads! Also, if you have any suggestions or comments, feel free to shoot me a message.

Sorry for the delay in the postings lately. I’ve been busy with a couple of things happening in my life. Anyway, I promised that the winner of the Woodwind Sheet Music Giveaway  would be announced on January 11, but had to delay it until today. So without further adue, congratulations to Lindsey Compton for winning the contest. Part of her post, which can be found on the original contest page, is quoted below:

One word-heaven. This is what I think about when I hear the sound of a clarinet…the sky is what I see when I hear this instrument play. I believe that I can go into great lengths about why my Bb Clarinet is the “best” instrument out there. Through my 8 years of experience with the clarinet, I have found that this instrument exemplifies the definition of “beauty.” I have heard oboes, and flutes, but no woodwind instrument can sound lower then a boat’s horn or higher than a song bird’s highest note. • While the clarinet’s sound alone defines greatness, we can not overlook how a clarinet player makes emotions come to life. I feel that the clarinet is under-appreciated because there are not enough players who actually “connect” with the clarinet and understand how they can make the clarinet’s notes a book of words. Sabine Meyer, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Larry Combs- these are the people that make the clarinet speak feelings that are deep and dreary, or happy and wistful. The clarinet is the only woodwind (in my opinion) that can express a person’s soul and heart in just a couple of measures of pure loving sound.

Due to overwhelming response from Cover Lover Match #1, a cover of John Mayer’s Heart of Life, I’m going to post more of this special ‘competition’. Many of you left some great remarks about the two performers - both good and bad. From the looks of it, I think Contestant #1 wins the contest, though many considered it a tie. Just like last time, please rate the following two videos on the following:

  • Technical Ability: Did they play all the right notes, and were they on key?
  • Star Potential: Can you see them actually making it big?
  • Quality of their recording: Was it rushed, or did they put time into it?
  • Replication of the Song: How close is it to the original?

Post what you think, and maybe I’ll send you access to our sheet music library ;) If I’m in a good mood (hint hint).
