The Nail Goddess with a community Hero

Once again it has been way too long since I posted and things have been pretty exciting at the salon. On July 1st, we had an event called Hero Day, where we offered complimentary manicures, haircuts, chair massages and waxing to the men and women in law enforcement and in all the fire departments throughout Maricopa county. What a turn out! Fox 10 news did a live segment in the morning and we also got a spot on most of the evening news prgrams. Italian Grotto donated the food, which was delicious as usual. I love a man that can appreciate a manicure!

Our next event will be on Tuesday, Sept. 8th and will honor Scottsdale Healthcare, and we are appropriately naming it Angel Day. Cafe Carumba will be donating breakfast and the same services will be complimentary for the fine men and women who take care of us when we need it the most.

Good God, I can’t believe it has been over 2 months since I’ve blogged. I find it interesting that for someone who usually has a lot to say, I don’t feel I have a lot to write. Spring Training has come and gone and Old Town is a little quieter these days. I only got to two games, which were great fun. The farmers market is still going on each Saturday through May on the corner of 1st St and Brown. I bought a couple (ok, 3) of hand blown glass necklaces from a gal that makes them in her home studio. I couldn’t believe how reasonably priced they were! I get tons of compliments whenever I wear them. Definitely worth the trip just to see that booth, although it’s easy to get wrapped up in all the different vendors.

I am currently in Yakima, WA, my hometown. We are visiting my parents and having Savannah baptized on Sunday. Good to be home and spoiled a little. I’m concentrating on getting lots of exercise and sleep….two things that fall by the wayside in real life.

We have added a little boutique to Applause Salon. It’s on the nail side so definitely arrive a few minutes early to browse. I am getting the spring colors in and am in full pedicure mode. Warm weather calls for bright toes!

Can you believe we are already well into February?! Where does the time go? Things have been steady at the salon, which is great. Spring colors will be here this week. OPI’s collection is called ‘South Beach’ so I am looking forward to bright corals and pinks. Always fun to lighten up after all the holiday red and burgundy. The only other news I have to report is my new picture on the ‘About Me’ page. Karen, my web goddess, thought it was high time to update since I’m nearing the end of my weight loss journey. I’ve been holding steady and feel really good about it. Thank you Karen, for managing that whole project for me and not having me make any decisions! And as always….thank you Norm for your fabulous picture taking skills. I appreciate you both.

Spring Training starts on Wed, Feb 25…..the Giants stadium is a stones throw from the salon. With the exception of one game, they are all 1:00 games this year. So come on down early, get a glorious pedicure and hit the stadium for hotdogs and baseball. What could be better?

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a fun and safe celebration. I am happy that the new year has started…I love the feeling of starting fresh. The salon has been steady which is a good thing, everyone is getting back into their routine. The Farmer’s Market has grown on Saturdays so there are a lot of people milling around.

One of my New Year’s resolutions is a 30 day Bikram Yoga challenge. Everyday for 30 days, no exceptions. I haven’t even done yoga before and thought that this would be a good way to jump in. It’s awesome…the room is 105 degrees and each class is 90 minutes. Today was day 7 and I already feel relaxed, calmer and stronger.

Hope your 2009 is off to a great start. Come in for a post holiday treat!

Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season! It has been very festive in the salon…lots of treats and goodies that I can’t seem to stay away from. People are in a good mood, which is great given the crazy world these days. I want to take this opportunity to thank all my loyal and lovely clients who make my days so fun! Thank you for your kindness and lively conversation. I feel honored that you choose to spend your time with me.

I have been in a turkey coma for a few days, so forgive me for not updating my blog! It’s been so busy that I am shocked to find that it is December. Where oh where does the time go? I am running a great special through December…..buy a gift certificate in any amount and receive a gift certificate for yourself in the same amount! Doesn’t that sound like the deal of the century? I will honor them for 3 months….that gives you and your recipient lots of time to redeem it. And who doesn’t need a little pampering after the holidays? Sure it’s nice to have a manicure and pedicure before a big party, but January is always a bit of a let down (at least for me) so what better way to cheer up than a day at the salon. Just call me and use the code “blog special”.

Artistry in Motion

One of my friends (and client!) is an amazing artist. I had only seen a couple of his pieces, but just went to his website for the first time. Wow! I can hardly draw a stick figure! It all started with a conversation about wanting to do family pictures for Christmas when he mentioned that he does portraits and can draw from a picture or a live sitting. Of course, my mind immediately went to the scene from Titanic, but I digress….(besides, he doesn’t think his wife would allow it!!) Now wouldn’t that be a cool Christmas present?! On a different note, I am also adding a permanent link to Dr. Olson Gibbs. I am now down 50 pounds and feel amazing!

Farmer’s Market

Saturday Nov 1st was the first day of the Farmer’s Market in the parking lot across from the salon. There were many vendors selling their organic veggies, homemade bread and other wares. It will be held every Saturday 9am-1pm through May. So if you’re looking for something fun and different, come check it out and spend the day in Old Town!

Today I bought my first Christmas present. Every year I am shocked that the holidays are upon us, even though they are always at the same time, it’s not like the date of Christmas ever changes! I don’t usually wait until the last minute, but I admit that I do need a little pressure to get motivated. We are going light this year, but still, our families are out of town so that means packing and shipping gifts to arrive on time.

We just got the cutest glass nail files that are hand painted. Some have a martini glass, palm trees, chili peppers, just to name a few. They are great for natural nails…very gentle. Oh how I wish I were that artistic! They will make great stocking stuffers. The small size is $10 (perfect for your purse) and the bigger size is $12. They come in a handy sleeve too. Wouldn’t that be a cute touch to add to a gift certificate? A few years ago, I sent small emery boards with all my Christmas cards….people went crazy for them! It’s the little things like that that make the biggest impact.

We also have some lovely red polish for the season….shimmer or creme. I love red toes. It always looks classy and sophisticated. It’s funny, even people that never wear red will wear it for the holidays. I guess it gets everyone in a festive mood!

Here I’m already talking about Christmas and we haven’t even had Halloween! Have a safe and fun Halloween weekend!
