I’m always on the look-out for nearly narrow shoes that I can offer as additional options for my stylish narrow shoe clients. Though they aren’t labeled narrow per se, Amiana Shoes may appeal to tweens, teens and women with small slender, narrow feet, who struggle to find designer shoes in their smaller hard to find size. Especially notable is the fact that the first line in the description of the shoes is: “Amiana dress shoes tend to run slender. It is recommended that you order a half size up for this item.” I don’t know about you, but when I read a description like that about shoes, I want to jump for joy!

Each of the styles have a women’s look  but are always tasteful and appropriate for girls . The shoes are handmade with the finest leathers and materials in factories in Spain and Italy. Designer Amy Buckner first designed the Amiana footwear collection in 1984. Her goal was to offer cutting edge fashion that was age appropriate and that goal continues to this day. Whether it’s sandals, pumps, boots or flats, Amiana shoes coordinate with the most fashionable clothing.

Here is how to convert your shoe size from Child Size to Adult Size in inches.   Manufacturers use different lasts to construct their shoes, and sizing may vary accordingly.

Make sure you are standing, wearing the socks or stockings you will wear with your new shoes.

Step on a piece of paper and trace around each foot with a pencil.

Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the length of each foot.

The measurement of the larger foot is the one you should go by to find your proper size.

Using the following charts, convert your inches measurement to your U.S. shoe size or Euro shoe size. Using Zappos Size Conversion Chart we’ll break it down for you using the following examples:

Example: Girl Youth Size 7 to Women’s Size:

• Go to Chart 2 Youth Sizes and look across the size 7 row in US Sizes and you’ll see that a size 7 youth foot is 9.75″.
• Go to Chart 1 and look for 9.75″ in the Inches column. We see that 9.75″ measures somewhere in between a Size 8.5 and a 9 on the Women’s size chart.
• You always want to fit your larger size foot and the best way to do that is to measure both feet.
• In this case she is in-between sizes so it would be best to order both the 8.5 and the 9 to see which size fits better.

Youth Size 7 = Women’s Size 8.5-9

Example: Woman Size 5 to find her size equivalent in the Youth size:

Women’s Size 5 = Youth Size 3

Example: Boy’s Youth Size 7 to Men’s Size:

• Go to Chart #3 Men’s Sizes and look across the size 7 row in US Sizes and you’ll see that a size 7 Men is 9.75″.
• Go to Chart #4 and look for 9.75″ in the Inches column. We see that 9.75″ is a Size 7.5 on the Men’s Size Conversion Chart.
• You always want to fit your larger size foot and the best way to do that is to measure both feet.

Boy’s Youth Size 7 = Men’s Size 7.5

Example: Men’s Size 7.5 to Boy’s Youth Size:

• Go to Chart #3 Men’s Sizes and look across the size 7.5 row in US Sizes and you’ll see that a size 7.5 men’s foot is 9.75″.
• Go to Chart #4 and look for 9.75″ in the Inches column. We see that 9.75″ is a Size 7 on the Men’s Size Conversion Chart.
• You always want to fit your larger size foot and the best way to do that is to measure both feet.

Men’s Size 7.5 = Boy’s Size 7

My 14 year old [teenage] daughter has narrow feet and small ankles. She wears a girls size 4 maybe a 5 now, I’ll need to measure her feet. Need help finding shoes to fit her that are not childish as she is a teenager. Please help me! We need to find some summer shoes for casual as well as for church (with a heel preferably)…..My daughter would like a dress shoe for summer with a wedge heel type. Or a dress shoe with a low to medium heel. Also she needs sandals for this summer, casual and also dressy ones for church. She likes straps, but no strap between the toes, and colors she likes is pink, black, white, gold, silver, blue, and she like camouflage design. She also needs outdoor shoes as well as tennis shoes. I know it will be difficult and thank-you for trying. I hope you are able to find something, thanks from the bottom of my heart!

It’s our pleasure!   Here are 8  suggestions for you for starters and we can narrow it down from there (yikes-pardon the pun).

First, let’s try to figure out her size — if she is size 4-5 in girls sizes that converts to a size to somewhere between a 5.5 – 7 in women’s sizes, so we need to get a measurement of her feet first. You can measure both, but the size that we’ll need to fit is her larger foot size. Usually one foot will be a bit larger than the other.  Most of these shoes are only available starting in Size 6 AA with the exception of the Topsiders which are available in 5 and 51/2 or 5.5 AA.

While I’m waiting for the measurements, though, here are a few that you and she may like (Some of the shoes are available in other colors than the ones I’ve chosen):

I wasn’t sure about this wedge because it is higher than you asked for but with the 1 inch platform height will counter balance the three inch heel and it will feel more like a 2 inch heel.  The adjustable hook and loop closure will give your daughter a tight and supportive fit around her small ankles and around the ball of her foot.   It also has great narrow shoe reviews!

I also recommend  Foot Petals to put at the ball of her foot to keep it from slipping forward in any or all of the shoes if need-be.

This one is a little sophisticated, but perhaps she’ll like that for Church.  It’s available in a few different colors, too and I like that it’s a flat–I think she could dress it up or down depending on the color of the shoe and the outfit she wears it with.

3)  BEACON SHOES – NEWPORT

We’ve had an ongoing dialog via email with a woman in Sweden who can’t find her narrow shoe size there.  In a new email that just arrived yesterday, she would like me to help her find   Keds in 7.5  in her narrow width.

She’s in luck, she can purchase Keds – Champion Oxford Canvas (Women’s) in white, stone, navy, or red in narrow from Shoebuy.com and they can send it internationally.   A word of caution, however, according to the Customer Service Representave that I spoke to on her behalf.  It’s advisable to call first before you place your order because while they do ship internationally, not all brands can be shipped internationally.  So, do make certain the shoes you are interested in are available and can be sent to you.\

Why post about a nearly narrow Isaac Mizrahi Pump, when we’re called thenarrowshoe.com?  When we find a shoe that fits our narrow feet, we here at thenarrowshoe.com can’t wait to share the news.  That’s why we had to post this review of this “could-be narrow” — what we call “nearly narrow” pointy-toe kitten heel Isaac Mizrahi Pump.  My daughter and I couldn’t wait to try them on and unbelievably they fit our narrow AA feet and they were comfortable, too!

Yesterday, my daughter and I went to the mall in search of something for her to wear to a special family occasion that will be coming up in May.  I always like to park in the same general vicinity so it’s easy to remember where I’ve left my car, which just happens to be right in front of Nordstrom.  On either level, as you walk in, the shoe department is pretty much right there to greet you — no accident, I’m sure.  Anyway, after successfully finding not one but two dress choices for her to wear, on the way back to the car we decided to take a quick peek in the shoe department, knowing all too well that our chances of finding a pointy-toe kitten heel pump in narrow, were slim to none (yes, pun intended); but we decided to give it a try, anyway.

We picked out various shoes that we liked hoping that if they weren’t available in the store in narrow, they might at least be available online in narrow and we could order them, right then and there.  As we searched around, we came across Janis in Linen and Black and we both swooned.   I quickly checked on line to see if it was available in narrow and of course,

it wasn’t.  That would be too easy, right?  As I looked at the shoe, though, it looked narrow enough that I thought maybe, just maybe, it might fit my long narrow feet (and quite possibly my daughter, too, who has small narrow feet — lucky her)!   We bravely walked up to the salesperson and asked for our shoe sizes and I then I asked the second of my two most dreaded shoe shopping questions:  “Does it run narrow?,” [the first being, Do you carry this shoe in narrow?] to which he replied, “Yes, and it runs long, too, so I’ll bring out it out in your size and one size smaller so you can compare.”  At that point we dared to hope this adorable pointy toe-kitten heel might actually fit one or both of us.  As luck would have it, it fit us both and true enough, one size down from our actual shoe size.    My daughter decided to take the Black/Linen polkadot pair below.  I couldn’t decide between the two, so I took both!  The salesperson said they’d just put out the shoe for the first time on Saturday and by yesterday (Monday) they were almost sold out!

If you are interested in purchasing them and they are selling out so quickly at Nordstrom, if you can’t find them in your size at Nordstrom,  you might find them in Linen/Black and  Black/White Polka Dot at Zappos.com or at Macys.com (Linen/Black only).  Good luck!  Order quickly before they’re gone in your size.

We hope they fit you as well as they fit us and that you enjoy them for a long time to come.  As a post script, it might be wise to spray them with a product like Scotchguard to keep them free of stains!

When it comes to Mad Men, well, we get pumped!  Pumped, that is, to pair our favorite narrow Mad Men inspired pumps and shoes with the wonderful costumes they wear.  An April 4, 2012 slideshow on vanityfair.com traced how costume designer Janie Bryant executes Joan Harris’ style.  We adore this outfit and found some contemporary Mad Men pumps we’d pair with it!
